Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

"I'm not really sure how the school actually works. Maybe it's its own demiplane or something. All I know is that it works," she said with a shrug, opening the closet and taking out the few clothes hanging inside, placing them in the offered box. She picks up the picture frame and sighs. "I swear this frame has a talent for picking the most embarrassing photos to show at any given time. Pretty sure that's why Ephebe left it. Here's a picture from the day Taron burned my half dragon Barbies. There's me crying, and Jiminy patting my head to try and make me feel better, and there's Taron looking bored while Mom scolds him....Master Quo loved to take pictures of awkward moments like this. He said we'd appreciate them someday. Still waiting on that," she said, rolling her eyes as she tossed the irritating holodisplay into the box.

"I appreciate the offer to duplicate things, but kinda the point is the memories that went along with them. It's not really about the stuff itself. At least I have the photos. They help when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't remember which memories are mine." She tossed her dance bag on top of the sparse contents of the box. "That's it. All packed. Told you it wouldn't take long," she said smiling. "Now to break the news to my parents."

"Guess the saying goes for jokes, frogs... Magic buildings..."

He seems very interested in the frame, turning it over and around, probably wondering how it works without magic.
"Aw, you were cute. What happened?" He chuckles and sticks his tongue out when she looks back at him after that.
"I've heard people talk about, like, mindscape or something like that. Going into your own head. Maybe that would help with the whole memories thing. Going in and sorting stuff out by hand in more controlled environment."
He tucks the box under his arm and motions for the door. "Your future awaits, M'lady."

The cat smiles and hugs back, his arms only reaching up to Dave's lower chest. He was putting things away in his little pocket dimension as he went, save for the robe, as it wasn't his. "You know I am." He chuckles and nudges him slightly as he steps back to let him talk with the shop keep.

"Of course. We've been on the gold standard as long as civilization has existed. As an artisan and magical craftsman, I do take equivalency appraised gems. You boys come on up to the front, and I'll ring you up."
He leads the two out to the front and works on an elegant antique looking cash register for a moment. "Lessee here, crafting price, higher end components, bringing your own enchantment. That brings it to 16 k."

"holy hell that's a lot of money? what's the exchange rate between the Gold piece we use and what you guys do?"

The Craftsman seems puzzled by the result as well and runs the process again, hitting keys more deliberately this time. "Ah, apologies. The total is eight thousand. The cost discount key probably stuck. Not one I use very often." He chuckles as he double checks his math again. "Yes, that was it. Raw Serpentstone is tough to get around here, and harder to work with, so it's not the cheapest component. But definitely worth the price, darn near indestructible."

While Dave is taking a moment to gather the coins, the clock smith takes something out from behind the counter. "As for you, Furball, I've got something I've wanted to give you for a while..."

When Dave returns, Tybalt is holding an understatedly ornate clock and looking deep in thought.

Lenny is smiling at him the sort of fatherly way he looked at him before. "-n't have the heart to sell it, and I figured you'd appreciate it more than any antique hoarding old woman." He looks back up to Dave as he reappears and accepts the coins, hanging the bag on a scale before giving a handful back to Dave. "Just over. There's your change." He smiles widely under his greyed mustache. "Well, it's been a pleasure working with you two. You're welcome back at my place any time you like if you need a quiet place to work." He shakes Dave's hand once again before air hugging the somewhat emotional Tybalt. "Good to see you, Furball."

"Oh, yeah, there's tons. Natural ones, alchemically created ones, even deifically powerful ones. Most people just think about green jelly cubes with skeletons inside, but they're actually really interesting. At least, I think so."

He goes about switching things off and powering the vat down, making sure the forcefield was off so it wasn't wasting power.
"That's all I can think of. Do I need to like, dress up for this place? Clothes are kind complicated with the current body situation. Lab coat is magic and resizes to whatever current body needs are, but other stuff not so much. The new 'form shifting things instead of clothes' version of modesty was something I had to get used to pretty quick..."
He's actually wearing more clothes than the average dragon or ooze, which is to say, just his lab coat.

"It's a pretty casual kind of place. I think you'll be fine like that. That's...kind of odd. About the clothes. I mean, I've never really thought of it before. When I shift I'm not wearing clothes in my wolf form. But I'm wearing them in human form. Well, unless I wasn't when I shifted. I never really stopped to consider before what happens to my clothes when I shift....that's kind of a mind-boggling question now," he said, picking up the tank with his new pet and heading towards the door, frowning as he considered the deep philosophical question of what happens to his clothes when he shape shifts.

"It's okay. I know you didn't mean anything bad by it. It's probably just a bad habit you picked up from Ace. He's a nice guy, but not the best at the listening," she said with a small grin. "Nicknames were mostly just used to make fun of me when I was little. And even when I first came here. I tolerate James calling me Elle because he has nicknames for everyone, and it's not so bad. Nobody ever teased me with that one. Ra, Rawr, Rae, Rail...and the variations of those. They were all used in a mean way, so I really don't like them," she said, shrugging apologetically.

Ehos held up his data pad. 'They have the same tantrum every year'
"It is an ongoing problem," Tyrrin said as diplomatically as possible, biting the inside of her cheek to try not to laugh about it in front of the twins. "I am sure that it will be resolved as successfully this year as it has been in the past."

"It is important that everything is in harmony for the ceremony," Liren said smugly.

Tyrrin barely refrained from actually rolling her eyes. "Yes, and I am certain that the high priests will remember that before the actual ceremony begins," she said with forced cheerfulness.

If someone put a shirt or a collar or whatever on me in wolf form it would still be there when I changed back to human form, although that definitely leads to awkward. Things only get shunted in the one direction, not the other. I just have no idea how it actually works or why."

"Oh, sorry. I guess I kinda assumed you guys could stop in the middle as like an anthropomorphic animal since I saw that cat guy and some of the lycan students staying with ears and tail."

It's his turn to grimace as he imagines the awkward situations that could occur with shifting clothing malfunctions. "Well, at least it's an easy fix if you get your clothes stolen like at the pool. Just go wolf until you get some new ones. I actually wonder what would happen if we scryed for the clothes you were wearing after you shifted."

"Common misconception there. We have three forms. Most people assume it's two. We can either appear to be human, appear to be whatever animal form our tribe is, or appear in a hybrid form that incorporates some elements of both. I don't really use my hybrid form, like at all, so I kind of forget about it. But for some Lycans, they're more comfortable in the hybrid form than the humanish one." He shrugged. "Matter of taste really. But whatever form you want to be in, stopping on the way is not only agonizingly painful it's also stupidly dangerous. It can cause permanent damage."

"And yes, it does make it easy to deal with if someone decides to walk off with your clothes in say the locker room, and yes, that did in fact actually happen to me and I had to run back to my room for a change in wolf form before I could go to my next class, where I got detention for being tardy. Now I know, if I'm going to be late for class, just show up as a wolf instead. Still no idea where my clothes go when I'm in wolf form, though. Might be an interesting experiment to try the scrying thing. Oh, here we go," he said, stopping as they got to the right door. "This is my room. Would you mind getting the door for me? Arms kinda full of tank here."

Jasper smiles and gives her a double armed side hug.

"Hey, no worries." He taps the side of his head to indicate telepathy. "Just ping me if ya need me. I'll be right here."

He's suddenly a white furred Labrador, sitting loyally by the door next to her box of things.

Tybalt gives one last wave to his old Craftsman master as they depart the store.

"I think we've done everything I set out to do this morning. Anything else and we'll start ruining surprises." He smiles up at the Aasimar as he holds the clock safely with both hands.

The clock itself is fairly basic, but the face is where it becomes ornate. Instead of numbers, each of the twelve spaces is occupied by a small animal. 12 is a cat followed by bear, lizard, cow, dog, bird, snake, rodent, pig, Kangaroo, Ram, and Horse being 11. The hour hand is a small dragon holding a small piece of rainbow colored glass as the tip and the hour hand is a larger aquatic dragon with a small topaz set in the chest.

An gave Jasper a grateful smile and shrugged off the odd feeling of deja vu as she opened the door and went into her parents' room, closing it behind her.

Her mom was asleep on the bed surrounded by papers and Andromeda walked up and gently shook her shoulder. "Mom? Sorry to wake you up," she said apologetically as Aananda startled awake. "What's with all the papers? I thought you were supposed to be cutting back on work," she added, concerned.

Image

"What? Oh, it's nothing, honey. Don't worry. I am cutting back. I already resigned as head of security. These are just lessons plans for the basic mechanics course," she said muzzily as she sat up and then realized with alarm that she'd said too much in her half asleep state.

Image Cleric (Divine Gunslinger) 16/ Vigilante (Blitz) 16

"Wait, what? Why are you working on lesson plans for basic mechanics? What about Jim? Did something happen to him? There's no way he would go out on leave or whatever if he knew you were sick...What are you not telling me?" she asked, her anxiety increasing by the moment.

Image

Aananda sat up and sighed. So much for telling them altogether. "Come here," she said, patting the bed next to her, and waited for Andromeda to comply before she would say anything else. She reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind Andromeda's ear, smoothing it away from her face. "Something did happen. I wanted to wait and tell you kids all at the same time. I should know by now that plans never hold together that well....Andromeda, Jim was on a mission with Enre and Asch and Amada. It wasn't supposed to be a high risk mission. Just a rescue operation. Things didn't go as planned. We don't have all the details yet. That's where your father is now. Sorting through the details and reports to figure out what happened."

"So....Jim is...." Andromeda couldn't bring herself to complete the question.

Aananda had to take a deep breath to keep from crying. "Jim Rivets is dead," she confirmed. "Honey....they all are. The whole team. Enre and Asch and Amada. They're gone. I'm sorry, baby. I wish it wasn't true. But it is. This is what happened."

An felt like she'd just been kicked in the gut. She shook her head. "No....no....that can't be right....this isn't how it was supposed to happen...." she stopped to wipe a tear off her face and just looked at it like she'd never seen tears before, unaware that she'd been crying. "I don't.....it hurts....and the truth is I never even met them. Not in person. Not really. But I remember them. They were my friends....who I never even got to meet.....and they can't just be gone...."

Image

Aananda hugged her daughter and rocked her slightly as she cried, rubbing her back and telling her over and over that it was going to be alright no matter how little she actually believed that herself. After a few moments she leaned back and put her hands on each side of An's face to make sure that her little girl was looking at her. "It's okay to grieve. It's okay to be sad. They were your friends. And you did meet them. I know, I know. It's messy. But I've listened to the story from both you and your sister and I think I have a pretty good handle on it. After the battle with the time demon, Ephebe was in bad shape emotionally. So you, as a ghost, basically possessed her body and brought her here. You're the one who made sure she would be a part of this family and you're the one who helped her by making friends and making sure she had a life here. And then you stepped back and let her take over because it was her body and her life. That doesn't make what happened not real. You were really there and you don't have to try to talk yourself out of your real feelings."

This was the cue for the real waterworks and she held Andromeda tighter as she sobbed so hard she couldn't even breathe. When the crying slowed down, she waited while An caught her breath and then offered her a box of tissues from the nightstand. Extra strength, super absorbent tissues, specially designed to deal with dragon snot.

"This is definitely not how I imagined this conversation going," Andromeda said shakily, blowing her nose. "I...." she stopped and pulled something out of her pocket and handed it to her mom. "Here. I got this for you. It's an amulet. It's supposed to help ward off nausea. I thought it might help with the morning sickness. I....I went shopping earlier today. Jasper and I went to buy birthday presents for a new friend, and I figured while I was at it I should pick up some other necessities like clothes and toiletries. Anyhow, I found that while I was out and I bought it for you."

Image

Aananda took the amulet and put it on. "Thank you, Andromeda. And do I want to know where it was you went shopping?" she asked, fear adding more of an edge to the question than she had intended.

Image Cleric (Divine Gunslinger) 16/ Vigilante (Blitz) 16

"No. You really don't. I'm not being reckless. I need you to believe that. I'm not being reckless. Sometimes I go places that are off world, and I am as careful as it's possible to be. I have things that help me stay under the radar. And no, I'm not out playing vigilante either. I'm not Taron. I honestly went shopping today. Like a freaking normal person. Because I needed things. I needed to start acting like I'm actually alive again, not just visiting. And I know this is incredibly bad timing, but I need to start being more independent. I came here this afternoon to tell you that I'm moving out of my room here and back into the school proper. Which isn't exactly far. Technically still under the same roof. But it feels far right now," she said, nervously tearing apart the used tissue in her hands as she spoke.

Image

Aananda sighed. "Master Quo used to tell me when you all were small that you were going to be my problem child. I didn't believe him. After all it was always James who ran straight towards trouble, and Taron who I worried about. You were so responsible and well-behaved. I totally took that for granted. Andromeda, you have no idea what it's like raising a child and knowing that she's going to die before she grows up and there's nothing you can do to change it. I always used to wish that you would lighten up and just live a little. Enjoy yourself a little more. But you never would. And now....now when I want more than anything to wrap you up and keep you safe because there's a second chance I never expected....now you want to take risks and rebel and cause trouble.....Sometimes you are so much like your father I wonder if there's anything we even have in common....and then you have to go and act like me when I was your age....it's absolutely maddening," she said, shaking her head and blinking back tears.

Image Cleric (Divine Gunslinger) 16/ Vigilante (Blitz) 16

"I know, I know. It's awful. But it's my second chance too. And I need to make the most of it. I need room to grow into whoever I am now, but I still need you too. I'm sorry I can't promise you that I won't take risks. I don't want you to worry..."

Image

"Pssh. I'm your mother. Worry is part of the job description, right after lack of sleep and nagging. I'm afraid of losing you. Again. It's not like I don't know that I have to let you go. As if I could stop you going anywhere you want with the amazing teleporting powers. I'm not stupid. But that doesn't make it easy. And I won't promise not to check up on you more than you would like, worry too much, and I will almost certainly embarrass you in front of your friends," she added. Andromeda laughed a little bit in spite of herself. "I'm grieving too, and sometimes that means that I will try to hang on too tight. I say this now, in a one time admission, so you know in the future that it doesn't mean that I don't have confidence in you. You're my baby. No matter how grown up you get. Now go, before we both start crying again," she said, giving Andromeda a tight hug. "and before I change my mind about being reasonable and decide to try my hand at inventing a better dimensional anchor."

Image Cleric (Divine Gunslinger) 16/ Vigilante (Blitz) 16

"You'll do that anyways. But it won't work," An said, returning the hug before standing up. "Do you need me to get anything for you? Send for Grandma or something?"

Image

Aananda shook her head. "No, she'll basically smother me with attention I don't want right now, much like I want to do to you. She's taking the whole bed rest thing way too seriously. Darn it, I hate being my own object lesson to have to examine my own hypocrisy," she said with a grimace. "Go on. I could use the time to rest anyhow."

She laid back in bed after Andromeda left and put one arm over her eyes while the other rested on her stomach. "I'm sorry, babies. This hasn't exactly been the most peaceful, happy start for you, has it? I'd promise to do a better job with you two, but I've got enough children already to know that that won't happen. Best I can do is promise to try and screw you two up in completely different ways than I did with your older siblings," she murmured.

Image Cleric (Divine Gunslinger) 16/ Vigilante (Blitz) 16

An came out of the room and shut the door behind her, wiping her eyes again. Her eyes were red like she'd been crying. "That....went differently than I was expecting," she said quietly.

::I found out some friends of mine from before were killed recently,:: she said, switching to telepathy because she didn't trust her voice. ::Mom hadn't meant to tell me yet, but she accidentally let it slip when I woke her up from her nap.::

Oh gosh, that sounds like crying. Dog ears are good. Should I be listening? I can't hear most of it. Does that count as listening? I shouldn't be listening.

He shifts back up to his djinn form, working on the puzzle box so his hands have something to do.

Hey, it opened. Ooh.

He holds the camel figurine up and trots it along the edge of the open box.

Hey little guy. What's your name? Maybe your mystical Crystal will tell us.

He sets the two on the back of the puzzle box and makes magic fingers at the little crystal.

I see a future as Horus the Camel for yoooouuu.

He'd look and see if there's anything in the locket next. If it doesn't open, he eventually moves on to the key and identifies its power, using it to open the locket and look inside.

Summary of questions: Is it a "Crystal Ball" with the scrying and everything, but mini or a regular ball of glass/quartz? Any pictures in the locket?

He gets up and hugs her softly.
::Oh hon, I'm sorry to hear that. Do you want to talk about it? Or do you wanna not talk about it?::

He nods along with the explanation. "Ah, ok. Guess we're both learning a lot today. I didn't know there were more kinds of animal people either, since cat guy isn't a Lycan then." He laughs a little, pleased at the mental image of Jeran with fluffy ears and a tail. "I think you'd be cute with ears. I mean, er. I mean, not that you're not. Just. Different cute. I mean..." He closes his eyes and takes a breath, trying to stop with just his foot in his mouth instead of his whole leg.

He nods and opens the door for him, waiting to be invited in.
"Uh, if you have any space under your desk or a bottom shelf of a book case or something like that, oozes like darker places." Quick subject change makes everything better...
