Yah that's what I figure. Just looking to bring a another character in to RP.
Hew and Zilla are currently not in the best place to bring in yet.
lynora |
Yeah, my assumption with teachers is that they're patrolling hallways and such.
There is a group of seven injured students in a hallway outside the smoking remains of a crafting lab. At least one very much in need of medical care sooner rather than later. So someone can run into them while wandering the halls.
Dom Waverider |
Probably best for Dom and Rena to run in to them. Since Salis has only mundane healing at his disposal. Unless Ori has healing magic.
Dom Waverider |
Didn't think there would be much healing with the paper magic flavor.
If Salis had learned how to use his magic he would have some healing.
I'll leave it to you if you want Ori and Salis to come across them or let Rena and Dom come across them.
Ether way both group are traveling the halls so ether could come across them quickly.
Dom Waverider |
no prob. I know how it goes with being inactive for different reasons.
GM Fireclaw |
Feel free to take us to Bradley Dom. Rena is following along.
"Ace" |
In case it got lost, Ace is waiting on a response to him being able to trace the teleport, and whether he is needed to help bring the school back online.

Sounds good, Fireclaw. Didn't want to not let you have a chance to post.

DAMIANI, this is your character that blew s#it up and is now being hunted... we need your assistance in helping the scene play out
Not that I speak for Dami, but I believe in this situation he would say something like:
"IC is IC; tell me how you're going about your search and I'll give you results."
Or something. My point is: Dami isn't one to give hints or the like. His character may not immediately be catchable.

yes but Ephebe has knowledge that Lyn doesnt... it works the same for everyone and their character...
Krays probably knows everyone who can raise a mummy in the school but i really doubt Kryzbyn does.
this is where people having
in character knowledge > people's out of character knowledge
gets annoying...
I know i never explicitly stated who lives in the room across the hall from renkai
I dont have a freaking clue who lives across the hall from Renkai, but renkai does

I have to say, with no offense meant to anyone:
I am a little irritated by the events over the last couple days.
What was the point? The main premise for the game has been all but destroyed. I'm all for drama from a good story, or individual character development, but this overall seems like a "well, why the hell not?" especially with the nuking the infirmary and the EMP pulse for no apparent reason being the icing on the cake, like a giant F U to anyone who uses tech, which also happens to be a large part of this story line!
What kind of equipment at this tech level isn't shielded? Space craft would sputter and die in space on a frequent basis if EMP was so crippling. We have special wiring and circuitry today that can withstand this (it's not common place because 'hardening' things is expensive and is rarely needed), why wouldn't they have it in the time of a space faring Empire, especially cutting edge tech like Aananda's, in a magical school building like Avalon? Who knew all the Empire had to do was detonate the equivalent of a 1960's hydrogen bomb in the atmosphere to totally render Agartha defenseless?
This doesn't even cover the super unlikely event that Kronos would allow another Patron's champion to use time travel.
It seriously broke immersion for me. This made no sense.
End rant.
EDIT: I'm not assuming anyone went rogue with the story. I'm assuming those involved spoke with Lyn/DB3 and the appropriate conversations took place.
Krays |
grim is in the room with us correct?
I think so...he was answering your questions I thought.
FireclawDrake |
DK: Right, I get that. But right now... All signs point to the blue dragon who systematically attacked the school, disabling the wards first, and then the medical facilities before going On a homicidal rampage.
Kryz: /My/ point with this story was the give a villain which actually challenges the school. And requiring Kronos' approval for time travel would be like requiring Lumos' Permission to interact with photons. Or Valere's permission to be courageous.
Villains who aren't canny, who are defeated quickly, are boring in my humble opinion. Where are the first places a villain should strike? Healing facilities, and security facilities.
Edit: As to the EM burst: That specialized wiring you speak of is expensive Kryz, as you said. And what reason would Aananda have to protect against it? And Damiani did say that it was up to each person whether they should be affected or not. I figured Mel's Sonic Screwdriver at /least/ would have EM shielding.
I don't see how anything here has ruined the point of the game. All damage that has been done is repairable (except for maybe the poor nursing staff).
GM Fireclaw |
In case it got lost, Ace is waiting on a response to him being able to trace the teleport, and whether he is needed to help bring the school back online.
I believe you were speaking to Melody in that post, yes?
Thought this was directed at me for some reason. Hehe.
Kryzbyn |
What is Kronos' significance now? Death can prevent death, he's the patron of Death, he just can't create new life. Lumos could probably wink out light if necessary. Or be a dick and prevent a polaroid from developing, he or she just can't employ darkness. I could go on, but my point is a Patron had better damn well be able to exert control over violations to their domain, or what's the point to having them? Their champion is the only one they can prevent from using their power? How does that even make sense?
I expect when the Empire attacks, or something else on that scale, the school itself and Agartha should be in serious danger, not a hissy fit from Future Vai.
And Vai saw herself there. SAW HERSELF. So she knows in this timeline we didn't abandon her. She was saved. Aegy defeated. But ok, travel to each timeline and be a douche anyway, I guess.
And how far in the future is she from that she's a friggin great wyrm?
Is that gonna be the next trope here? Who blows up Avalon next?
Wait, what about Agartha! Each DM taking things one step further? I could have a villain destroy the whole friggin planet, then I could say to those that ask me why I thought it was necessary that I thought weak villains were boring.
I'm not irritated at you per se FCD.
Just that this whole scenario did not seem well thought out at all. The wards weren't even considered when she ran. Regardless of a slip up earlier in the story they should function as intended, or they are worthless too.
The price paid in story doesn't seem to match any possible RP gain. The full repercussions remain to be seen.
Ease of defeat has nothing to do with it.
Challenge has nothing to do with it.
I could be making a ton of false assumptions. My loss of immersion maybe my own fault. But from what has happened before, and how the Patrons have worked up to this point, I don't think I have.
GM Fireclaw |
I never said my villain was a reasonable and well-adjusted person. Logical, maybe. But seeing herself happy and healthy and with a family... that's more likely to make her even more angry - why does this incarnation get to be happy?
Yeah, she's from far in the future, hence the high level of tech she has displayed thus far (cloaking field, plasma rifle, time travel).
I can think of at /least/ 2 reasons off the top of my head why Kronos would "allow" her to travel back in time. 1) Hey, she might kill off a few Champions here. That fits nicely with Kronos' plans. 2) Punishment for Ephebe for (once again) defying his wishes (and not killing Tarka).
And don't say I didn't consider the wards when she ran, I did - I was well within reason to believe that she wouldn't be effected by them (since Aegythrax was able to leave with Chan's help and not be affected by them).
Don't take this the wrong way, but there have been plenty of situations like this before: the demon invasion caused a similar amount of damage and death to Avalon - the school recovered.
So tell me: what's really the problem here? Cause contrary to what you believe, I actually did put quite a bit of thought into this.
You still haven't explained how the "main point" of the story has been wrecked.
Or are we simply to have a string of easily-defeated villains with no continuity to them?
Kryzbyn |
The demon invasion did not cause anywhere near the same level of destruction.
The way the wards work, and how the champion's ports work, that shouldn't have happened, either. Krays isn't affected by the wards, but he can't take people with him when he ports, either. How do I stretch that into Krays can suspend the wards for others willy-nilly?
The real problem is it just doesn't make sense, as I said.
I'm sorry, my phrasing could have been better. You most likely did put alot of thought into this plan. But this doesn't mean you thought about all possible in game repercussions, or if it would be believable.
The school has effectively been destroyed, all of it's tech burnt out.
It will all need to be replaced. I'm sure the structure itself can be mended easily, but all of the other fun bits like Aananda's tech and labs that were integrated with it, will need to be rebuilt from scratch.
It's not Avalon anymore. It won't feel like Avalon anymore. There is no longer a reasonable expectation of safety or security. When you're already a spec on a lone planet that defies a galactic Empire, where do you go now?
If I am the only one looking at what has come before, and having a hard time reconciling all that with what just happened, then so be it.
I've said my peace.
Lord Foul II |
so long as the empire is not immediately brought to our doorstep, the only thing this is to me is a way to introduce Arthur to more people
and something for dave to complain about not being there for. (I am fine with him not being there he's doing something and getting some character development/bonding)
Monkeygod |
Ace's comments in game, bout the teleport and helping was directed at all present, sorry if that wasn't more clear. But he was more or less talking to the other champions, since he knows at least some of them are kinda in charge, in various ways.
As for the storyline, future Vai was awesome and definitely scary and intense. I loved it.
I have no real prior knowledge of the game before the start of the new semester, so I can't comment on that.
The explosions, EMP, zombies, etc are kinda extreme, and seem to me at lesst, unconnected. Not sayin this is accurate, just how it comes across.
I have faith in FCD in where this storyline will lead. If nothing else, such a blatant, violent attack, which resulted in so much destruction, will probably convince the staff and others to increase defenses for when the Empire attacks.
lynora |
Well, I'm glad this isn't the prelude to a rage quit, cause that would be awful.
Alright, so that's a lot of stuff to address. So I guess I'll just pick somewhere to start and go.
Aananda. Well, she is a genius, but it would be erroneous to assume that she's perfect. She's also crazy overworked. If she's sending tech up to the harbinger to be used in space, you better believe it's shielded. But it never once occurred to her that this could be a danger down here on the planet. At least not that wasn't coming from space. She did have plans for that. Might have been able to bring those online even from this if her system hadn't been in the middle of a reboot at the time. Also, for the record, the EMP? It was my suggestion. I told the person running that part of the story that this would be a good idea to accomplish their goal of creating the most destruction and confusion. And it was. You are making a lot of assumptions about what comes after that are totally not correct though. James is on his way back. James has some undamaged nanites with him from his own lab. All it takes is a few undamaged ones to start repairing the damaged ones and the cascade effects start. From the time he shows up at the school everything but Aananda's lab and the infirmary is up and working within minutes on the outside. Once baasic systems are restored she can start working on restoring the infirmary, installing some obviously needed upgrades, etc. This is helped by the school wards coming back on line which gives the building itself a better chance to self-repair. So no, it's not changing the basic nature of Avalon. It's making smart people realize that Avalon needs better defenses. And it will get them.
As for Aananda's lab, well, that's gonna be rough on her, because that is her hoard, and dragons don't take it well when their hoard gets destroyed. But this is Aananda we're talking about. So it'll be upsetting for like five minutes before she realizes that the whole thing is a chance to design it better from scratch. The new and improved lab will be finished by morning.
As far as Kronos goes, let me just provide a slight reminder that Kronos...not a nice guy. Ephebe was raised by a time demon and that's just the start. He also sent her on a time-travel quest that caused her to die repeatedly and involved killing her sibling over and over again and ended with her taking out the demon that raised her. And that's his idea of training. That's what has Ephebe freaked out about this whole thing. She doesn't think Kronos has lost his dominion over time. She thinks he's decided she needs more training. After all, she's been defiant lately and isn't adequately furthering his goals. There's also the fact that Kronos isn't linear. He is Time therefore he exists at all points in time simultaneously. While his Champion does effect him in the same way that other Patrons are effected by their Champions, he is constantly effected by every Champion he's ever had. So he does get some good influence from Ephebe and [redacted], but at the same time the vain blue dragon and the gold dragon emperor's son are also providing not as good of influence. Ephebe's Patron is by far the most complicated and most difficult to deal with of all the available Patrons.
Anyways, I hope some of that long explanation helps convince you that we haven't actually lost our minds.
lynora |
Oh, right, wards, forgot that part. Okay, so we did have a little bit of a discussion about that. In part because I had mixed up the timelines a wee bit. I had confused which of Ephebe's kidnappings happened when.
Anyhoo, no just anyone couldn't get someone else past the wards. The wards have a single glaring programming error. They are designed to be able to be overwritten and exceptions granted to...amethyst dragons. Why? Because Taron is a genius not a god and he had to use the old wards as a base for the new ones so he got the programming 'feature' along with all the good stuff. Why is this feature a bad thing? Because Chan was an amethyst dragon. So that's how Aegythrax got through the wards without having his memory wiped...as long as he didn't try to tell anyone about Agartha in which case the wards would have still kicked in. Future Vai knew about the wards and planned accordingly. She's psychotic not stupid. So yes, this all was taken into account. We did have to have some discussion about it though because it was a crazy amount of complicated stuff to keep track of. This game has been going for a long time and sometimes I do loose track of small details about what happened when. :)
Melody Waverider |
Well Aananada does have mel now to help but many times she takes the non involvement path and needs to be asked.
Also for what little help he is, there is still lang and team avatar to help
I just dont want to see this become a champion only thing so us non champions become sidelined

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why Lyn is my favourite GM ever.
I sprang this whole storyline on her without warning (because sometimes it's nice for Lyn to be surprised too, ne?) and yet here she is, ordering things and making sure everyone is happy.
I believe there's an internet meme that sums this up best:
Keep Calm and Carry On.
:)
Hug it out Kryzbyn?
Melody: Don't you worry, you non-champions can have a taste of Future Vai too, if you want. ;D

I thought it was a good way of reminding everyone that there is still a fear of death in the game. I thought myself that it was starting to feel as If there was no danger to anyone, no matter the situation.
As for Emp how many times had the tech here had to deal with emps. I doubt any. So why would it be sheilded. Thats not to say everyones stuff isn't sheilded. I agree Mel's screwdriver should have been sheilded but the player decieded it wasn't. Along with obvious sheilded tech would be ships. Space ships would have to be sheilded.
It was a good story placing fear into characters and threatening powerful ones. Not to mention Salis gets to call. "Told you so." :p.

Actually, Ed, Lang's mission of uniting the five worlds against the Empire is now even more important and urgent than ever.
It's just future Vai who is a Champion problem. Well, she manages to be an everyone problem, but they're the ones who have to deal with her. Probably.

So. . . . Is Light majorly cheating here?
Or is Light in this time stream considered a different entity from the Evil Time Stream?
If so, how is she pulling power to an alternate dimension?
Either way I'm confused as to how this works?
