If boss troll is in melee range, Dru-head gets a'maulin'.

Claw Maul: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 Add two to each roll if Dru-head can flank, which he will try if possible.

Damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6

grab: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Claw Maul: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Bite Maul: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10

If not:
Dru-head casts Flaming Sphere at the smaller troll directly in front of him, dealing 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3) = 7 fire damage. EDIT: and it gets to try a DC 17 reflex save to take half damage.

The three heads renew their efforts to pick away at the troll.

Bite 1: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 = 23

And the hydra's tail, which also seems longer than what the heads are used to whips around.

Well combat maneuvers didnt work too well on a strong and large creature. But I already kinda knew that would happen. Oh, I also didnt use Knockback correctly. I was supposed to do an attack roll first, oh well.
After ramming his head into the trolls gut, and the troll not going very far away (but his neck hurts instead), he decides to go for a good ol headbut.

With that, Blockhead's head comes straight down onto the Troll chiefs head with a sickening crunch strong enough to make the Blockhead recoil (7 self-inflicted damage)

The boss-troll yowls in pain and surprise as Hungry's ray scorches it, which seems to stop its healing. One of Dru-Head's claws scratches ineffectually at the thing's tough hide, but the other claw, as well as his teeth, tear into it, leaving it barely standing.

The other two trolls growl in anger and redouble their assault. The first flails ineffectually at Ziphora (He rolled a one, a two, and a three!), but the other manages to catch Blockhead in the chin with one claw. He deals ten damage to Blockhead

Ziphora's lightning again painfully burns the troll's hide. Blockhead then bashes the boss troll's head in, felling the giant. I assume that Tomorbataar and the Eidolon wait until after moving here--if I wasn't clear, the Eidolon ended up moving after the other trolls because it delayed last round until it was in melee range.

With no other orders than Blockhead's, your body keeps lumbering forward, forcing some of the heads to lift up high over the trolls to avoid being smashed into them. This does get Tomorbataar and the Eidolon in range of the other two trolls, but while Tomorbataar does get a good hit on it, his head bounces off its tough hide. One of the Eidolon's three heads manages to bite the troll while he's dodging the other two (and the tail).

End of Round 2
Beginning of Round 3
With the boss-troll dead, it's Hungry, Dru-Head, and Morheds first, then the trolls, then Ziphora, Blockhead, Tomorbataar, and the Eidolon.

Hydra-Head Summoner 6 | HP (36/36) | AC/Touch/Flat 15/10/15 | Fort/Ref/Will +3/+2/+5 | Init +0 | Percep +0

Hey! Look, I'm biting you! Morheds shouts at the troll on the right as his head dashes forward and snaps its jaws, trying to distract the giant from his eidolon's teeth.

Tomorbataar pushes his head straight at the troll on the right, staying extremely close to it, attempting to make its attacks hard.

I'm only adjacent to the troll on the right because the other one's far away. I'm more worried about Morheads getting hit by the troll and it's 10ft reach than I am by Blockhead getting whittled down, so I'll stay over here. I will deflect any attacks that would be hits from the right troll with Archon Diversion.

After the troll has moved, assuming its still standing: Tomorbataar pulls his head back with wicked speed immediately after the troll's attacks are finished, and before it has a chance to recover from the effort of attacking, Tomorbataar's head is racing towards it headlong.

As the body lumbers forwards Hungry try's to stay back and shouts as it re-dawns on him, "KILL IT WITH FIRE!"

Hungry begins another incantation as a small bead of red streaks through the air. When it hits the ground behind the trolls it explodes into a fireball. Humgey casts fireball trying to hit both trolls while hitting as few hydra heads as he can.

Morheds's attempt at feinting goes largely ignored, though it's hard to tell whether it's because the troll can't speak Common or because it suddenly has to worry about the fireball that just exploded all over it. Neither troll seems to have been particularly good at dodging the flames, nor does the troll in front of Dru-Head notice the flaming sphere in time to get out of the way before being burned again.

Badly burned but mostly angry, the two trolls redouble their attacks upon their foes... and fail miserably. One troll focuses on Dru-Head, but his claws just scrape off the barky fur of the tiger-hydra-thing, while the second ducks in under the other heads to get at Hungry, wanting to make the fire stop, only to find him much tougher to hurt than he had anticipated, claws and fangs both just ineffectually glancing off his magically reinforced scales.

Tomorbataar's counterattack, on the other hand, is obviously effective, and he thinks he feels his target's ribs break as he bashes into his chest.

These trolls have been rolling really badly... Blockhead, Ziphora, and the Eidolon are up! Others can post for next round, but we'll see if any of them live that long.

Ziphora finds the troll's hide much more difficult to penetrate with wind than it was to burn with lightning, her wind horn doing no appreciable damage to the creature. Again the Eidolon only manages to get one good bite in, its other attacks failing to get through the troll's thick hide. Said troll staggers, but does not quite fall. 1 HP left! XD

Blockhead makes quite a crater, but the troll next to him manages to keep his feet.

End of Round 3
Beginning of Round 4

Hungry just barely manages to graze the troll's arm as he lunges forward with his spell, but that's all it takes. As he drains its tasty life force, it totters and falls to the ground, dead.

Okay, Dru-Head, Morheds, can you finish off the last one before it gets a round? The stupid troll hasn't moved, so your flaming sphere will damage it again this round. And yes, as your body has moved forward some of you have ended up above the trolls.

All of you with three attacks are really good at hitting just once. XD

Morheds's splash of acid sizzles on the troll's flesh, mingling a new scent into the stench of burning troll. For some reason it doesn't even bother moving away from the flaming sphere, which continues to burn it.

Dru-Head's first claw cuts deep into the creature's side, and he manages to get a grip on it. His other claw and his teeth, however, have less luck penetrating thick troll-hide.

The desperate troll, tenaciously clinging to consciousness, has somewhat better luck with its frantic attacks against the tiger-hydra-head-thing. Its teeth sink deep into Dru-Head's shoulder, and one of its claws leaves a bleeding cut on his chin. Dru-Head takes 11 damage, but is now grappling the troll

Ghaa! Tomorbataar's shout is incredibly shrill, in contrast to his normally deep voice. He jerks his head up and out of the reach of the tiger's breath, exhaling sharply as he does. Keep your tongue away from me, the last thing I need is another person to lick me. He glares hard at Dru-head, wondering what he could possibly have been thinking.

"I guess they're dead, and won't feel a thing..." she murmurs to herself. She ponders for a moment over the other troll corpses, wondering if she should take a bite. They had it coming afterall, and meat was meat. No sense in letting things go to waste. In the end she can't decide and hangs in the air.

"And Hungry, you really shouldn't misjudge your aim. Sure, we grow back, but there are growing pains and all that and it still hurts! Waiting a moment is fine by me, but you'd want to run the idea by the rest."

Thanks Hungry, that's a good spell, like, if I had to compare it to a fireball, I'd say it...doesn't blow up your siblings. Tomorbataar is smiling and grateful looking until he says blow up your friends. After a moments he adds though I suppose we could wait before charging into battle, although they did most of the moving.

Tomorbataar then reaches into the corpse ever so daintily and pulls out a troll heart, careful to keep the blood from staining his face.

Responding with his mouth half-full, blood and viscera flying, "Yeah, fireball was not the best choice but we needed lots of fire and fast. I didn't wanna burn through all my spells!" He snickers at his pun and resumes eating.

Eventually he finishes and picks up his bone wand. "I think it is time to head back to the small squishy morsels, I mean the humans." He casts prestidigitation one more time to clean off anyone other than himself who got dirty with their snack.

At that point he votes to head back to the humans.

Every now and again, a hydra loses a head. Usually this is no cause for concern, but in the case of one very unusual hydra, that sometimes means a head with a whole new personality grows in. This is such a case.

The long and the short of it is, one of the players in my hydra campaign has to bow out, so we have an opening for a new head! Requirements for building a head can be found in the old recruitment thread, with further information in the Campaign Info tab. Your head will sprout out with his or her full faculties, utterly convinced you've been here all along even though you can't remember a thing you were just doing.

Those whose heads didn't make the cut first time are welcome to re-submit! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Yusssss...

Hmm, I'm going to see if I can play a head that can turn incorporeal somehow... bbl with some shenanigans.

EDIT: How do you feel about templates? Like, say, a Ghost (CR +2) head haunting the other heads who let him die? Since ghosts can never actually leave the thing they're haunting... this would be mostly for the humor and cool ghost abilities.

Oh, and let's roll this.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 1) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 6) = 18 15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 4) = 18 15
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 4) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 2) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4, 2) = 17 15

Well, that's certainly an interesting set. Potentially a formless adept psychic, or some sort of spooky ghost head.

I'd prefer to avoid templates, just because the whole hydra-head thing is enough shenanigans by itself. :D

Got it! In that case, how would you handle gaseous form? (I can stick to a class that can't turn incorporeal if the answer is "problematic")

You would become a gaseous head somehow still attached to a solid body. :D

You may not be aware of this, but Beachhead the deadly ninja head actually has been there all along. He's really good at hiding. Just FYI.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 6) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 5) = 18 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 1) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 2) = 11 9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 4) = 9 8
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 5) = 16 15

Ha ha! Oh, man, that's terrible! That's a 12 point buy!

Anyway, I'll get to work on this deadliest of assassins ASAP.

Apologies, I'd forgotten I hadn't replied to this. One of the rulings that got buried in the old recruitment thread was that, if you had no rolls that were at least 16, you could bump up one of your highest rolls to be a 16. So that will help you a little bit there.

No worries. I read through the thread and saw that. I also saw that you later decided to add Traits, so I've also grabbed a couple of those.

I've completed Beachhead except for the Personality/Description section, which I hope to finish tonight. I'll let you know when he's finally done, of course.

All right, looks fine thus far.

First thing first... would you allow the head to "wield" a sword if I have a nice scabbardscarf to keep it stored?

I ask because I may or may not be thinking about playing Sir Hydr Alisk, paladin of ManyHead Honcho god of Multiheaded Justice and Goodness.

Anyway, time to roll some stats!

Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 6) = 18 -2 = 16
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 3) = 16 -2 = 14
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 3) = 9 -1 = 8
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 2) = 15 -2 = 13
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 2) = 11 -2 = 9
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 3) = 15 -1 = 14

Okey, this is actually pretty workable with built-in INT and WIS dumpstats for extra righteousness and naivity... naivety? How the hell is that word written?

Oh, and in case you are crazy enough to consider my proposition of sword using Hydra head I may even suggest a pun named feat as a "penalty" to be able: Handy Head.

P.s.- is anybody is wondering "but Emissary, where was the sword stored when Sir Hydr Alisk sprouted?". Well, he ate it before that. Next question.

Ohh! Ohh! Can I apply? No? Why not? So what if I am already in, what does that have to... Oh fine :(

EmmisaryOfTheNorth wrote:

Someone else tried to start with a sword before, and this was the general response.

You have absolutely 0 wealth or equipment to start with (Spellbooks/formula books excepted--make up a good story for how you got it!). Well, I suppose if you took the Rich Parents trait you could have 900, but... you'd have to come up with a really crazy explanation for how you had the stuff and none of the other heads have taken it from you.
GM_of_the_Heads wrote:

I also have a few questions: Are we unable to use weapons?
I suppose you could try to hold a weapon in your mouth and swing it around. You wouldn't start with one, and you'd take a -4 penalty unless you can get a weapon made for a hydra somehow, but you could use it.

However, he was willing to work with a gunslinger who had his gun stuck in his throat... >_>

Everyone:
The player that has left was a Summoner whos Eidolon was More Heads. A good entry hook might be that one of the Eidolon heads develops a personality, and becomes its own entity we WILL bite the upstart head off. On principle. As an example. Of course...
Also, done forget the free +2 bonus to one ability and the +5 Natural Armor :)

Edit: just found this :)

How do unarmed strikes work?
Well, you could always beat things to death by repeatedly bashing your head into them. It's not like your brain is in there, after all.

Its a good thing I never listened to this advice @_@

Yeah, you can't start with equipment without taking Rich Parents as one of your traits and coming up with some kind of crazier explanation than just eating it. ;) You would be non-proficient with it, though. I'm not going to have a feat to get rid of that.

Hi, Beachhead is finished.

Not, like, finished in a dramatic way--like dead, but finished as in a ready-to-be-evaluated way.

Looks fine to me!

I'll close this either Friday or Saturday, so please get your submissions together before then!

To be more clear on the sword thing... honestly, I want to keep clear that the hydra is a monster in addition to silly, and having weapons ruins that feel for me.

I read through this whole thing so far, and it looks way too fun not to give it a shot.

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 6) = 17 - 2 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 5) = 12 - 1 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 1) = 8 - 1 = 7
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 2) = 15 - 2 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 6) = 18 - 1 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 5) = 14 - 1 = 13

I got really excited for a second until I remembered to drop the lowest roll. :D Oh well, it's still pretty good. I'll see what I can come up with.

Hmm, had very little internet access this week. Deadline for creation?

Submitting my previous applicant, Grass law!

thunderbeard wrote:

I'd like to get it done before the hydra goes to sleep for the night, which I'm guessing will be soon. However, if I know you're going to be submitting sometime early next week, I'm willing to extend it out.

Grassclaw, now that the hydra has a humanoid minion, would you mind switching to an archetype without the homunculous? You won't need him for carrying things any more, and I'd prefer to keep the focus on the hydra instead of on pets.

Whoops, wrong alias last night. XD I'm going to set tomorrow as the deadline for expressing interest, with Monday being the deadline for completed applications.

So barbarian, druid, necromancer, monk, and kineticist are already things? Hmmm... what to pick?

What are the official CC guidelines? Not sure if I overlooked them or not on the first page of the old recruitment.

I've tried to put all of them in the Campaign Info tab, under the heading The Rules. If I've missed anything there, feel free to ask again.

A reminder, you must have expressed interest by midnight tonight (EST) in order to be considered, and you have until midnight Monday to post your character.

Okay, I will no longer be accepting new applications. Those who have expressed interest, please get your heads to me by midnight on Monday!

Keep your heads in the game everyone!

Last call, everyone! Have your heads at least mostly complete by the end of the day in order to be considered!

I am waiting SO HARD.

Background & Personality:

Sometimes, for whatever reason, the gods feel like granting a puny mortal the amazing power to engulf everything around them in an inferno of divine fire in exchange of having to deal with a tiny little curse. Most of the aforementioned puny mortals find the deal pretty neat. Hothead, on the other hand, doesn't. Being a Cyrolisk, he's extremely afraid of fire, and for a good reason. Most people merely burn if they happen to be a bit too close to a flame. Hothead? He melts. Needless to say, he doesn't feel very positive about either his powers or the gods who saddled him with them.

Given that his most effective ways of dealing violent death are also disproportionally dangerous to himself, Hothead greatly prefers defusing volatile situations with his silver tongue over resorting to violence. He's generally an even-keeled person (Hydra? Head? Magical beast?), if a little bit inattentive. This changes when confronted with his greatest fear, fire, which can turn him into anything between a whimpering wreck of a head and a raging beast.

I'll make an alias and copy the stuff there if selected. Good luck to all who applied! :)

Uh oh :)
We may or may not have had a Head that at one point burnt the rest of us with a fireball... I was on the "Face-half-Burnt" side of things :p (so it wasnt me ^_^) You have been warned >:)

Still, I like the idea of the Cryo-Head with flame abilities :)
The Cyro/Pyro feats are really neat, and if we ever level I could see Blockhead getting a head cold that never ends. It would be funny ^_^

You'll probably gain a level at some point. ;)

Okay, recruitment is closed! I will choose this evening after work... though I think I only have three completed heads to choose from--Hothead, Beachhead, and Grassclaw. If I somehow missed yours, please speak up now!

Very good answer! Its always the victims fault!

I mean, why were we even there in the first place??? We could have been floating ANYWHERE else and we would have been FINE!

If you can't detach your head from the rest of your body at will you are simply not trying hard enough.

After considerable deliberation, I have decided...

...on Hothead! Old Mammoth, if you would go ahead and make an alias for him, he'll be joining the rest of the heads tomorrow. Let me know if you have any questions.

Alright, welcome aboard, we have cookies :) (the dark side ALWAYS has cookies >_> The paranoid side wonders where they get them from...)

Yay!

Congratulations, Old Mammoth!

Hello, I was offered a chance to make a hydra head. Trying to figure this out.
