Tikrit
|
Tikrit is ready for battle when the goons appear, but their proposition is less than violence but no less troublesome for the Tengu. A stricken look passes over his face at the thought of surrendering his new blade. He glances at the others, his brows raised at Kishara to see what she makes of these men and their intentions.
Haemish the Unlucky

Haemish shurgs, "Well, if this is what it takes to meet the man, I guess we have to do it.[b]" The small halflings begins unloading weapons you've never seen him wield, pulling them out of scabbards, boots, saddle bags, and holsters and hands them over. He points at the patient Lady, sitting on her haunches and looking at the thugs suspiciously. "[b]What do you want to do about my ... er, dog?"
Kishara

Kishara shares Tikrit's glance, also cutting her eyes toward Grimaldus and Yhen as well.
"You ask for much trust from us... What assurances do we have that such blind faith is warranted?"

The enforcer seems to have some empathy for Kisharas concern, and he seems genuinely understanding, "We could ask the same question of you and the trust we place that you aren't being tailed or have some magics that could allow you to be tracked"
I assume you all go, if you decided to stay out, let me know in your next post!
In order to visit Dakar, you are subjected to having black bags placed over your heads, and then stuffed inside a small, dusty wagon, and driven in bumpy, painful circles around the city for at least an hour before being dragged from the wagon, marched through streets or large hallways, and then stopped.
Once you are stopped, the bags are removed and taken from the room, and you find yourselves in a nice club or private residence with carpeted floors, potted plants, slaves waving fans, and a giant, backlit screen along one wall.
A shape, decidedly vague in outline, can be seen behind the screen, and a voice speaks.“You’ve asked for me and now you have me. What do you wish to know?”

Grim takes a ready stance in the manner taught in his hand-to-hand combat classes at the academy - feet shoulder-width apart and his weight resting slightly forward, hands placed one over the other at belt level (not gripped but ready to instantly come up in a defensive position), eyes taking in everything and everyone around. He estimates the distance to the screen, what it is made of, what around the room can be used as a weapon if needed, the position of slaves and bodyguards, and anything else to fully understand the tactical layout of the room. Just in case...

Uses hand of Glory
We originally came to Kaer Maga with an interest in working with Horis Collgardie. Apparently people claiming to be 'pathfinders' have been operating here, and we came from Absalom to work with Horis on getting more information.
Regrettably Horis was killed before we arrived. His friendship with Besel Ardoc ensured he had a powerful enough friend to ensure some form of response, misguided against us as it was. We took the matter up with Master Besel, to put matters at rest and show our innocence... and while he was understandably upset by his friends death, he hinted tha it may have been another person who pushed him towards vengeance via proxy.
Our own enquires led us in this direction as someone who may have an interest the matter of dead pathfinders or those investigating false pathfinders.
We are hoping to put this matter to rest in a way that keeps people out of the ground and ensures that only legitimate interests of the pathfinder society are pursued here... and we assure you, the Society is VERY cautious about what interests are pursued and who they work with are approved by the 'right' people. In fact to date, the society has been very cautious in even entering the city, let alone engaging in small scale or specific operations.

"What my haloed friend says is true, sir," Haemish intones in an obsequious manner. "We are simply here to correct an imbalance that some unlicensed Pathfinders have caused. We and the Pathfinder organization as a whole, have no further interest in the City of Strangers. As soon as we have accomplished our goal, that of finding Collgardie's killers and putting the matter of these so-called Pathfinders to rest, we will be on our way again." Kishara is about as pleased about giving up her weapons and putting a bag over her head as an alley cat would be about being shoved in a wet sack. But she does so, begrudgingly.
Once they are confronted by the "man behind the screen", she too scans the room carefully, trying to form an emergency plan in her mind. She nods along with Kaneko and Haemish's explanation. And adds only, "You seem to be the man in the know, yes? We have taken your blind leap to come here hoping you can share with us what you know."

Grim is comforted by the observation that the party is not bound, and that the place is well appointed - unlikely someone would want too big a mess in such a well appointed den.
There is a pause from behind the curtain as the shape shifts and adjusts, and Dakar chuckles — a dry, raspy sound. “I don’t give anything away for free, Pathfinders, but I will give you the information you want in exchange for a future favor. You do want the upper hand on these people?”
Haemish the Unlucky
|
Haemish considers the proposition. "Information about Collgardie's killers versus a future favor, eh? Can you give us any clue as to what this favor might be? We're not from around here, and we're not sure what Kaer Magan favors involve." The halfling always prefers direct confrontation, and is made uncomfortable by the fact that they can't see the man behind the screen.
GM Shifty
|
The form once again shifts behind the screen, the raspy voice continues "Today I help you remove a thorn from your side, perhaps tomorrow you might remove one from mine. It would be a poor choice for me to push you to tasks you cannot or would not do, but I ask that you reach agreement that there be an obligation between us. Are you in?"
Haemish the Unlucky
|
Haemish shrugs a little halfling shrug and looks at his colleagues. "What do ye say, lads and lasses. Shall we make a deal with him? If he could help us, it would save us a lot of leg work ... or Lady's leg work in my case."
Kishara
|
Kishara frowns at the open-endedness of the proposed favor. "I suspect you already have an interest in seeing these so-called pathfinders dealt with, else we would not be here now. But I will not risk our mission, so I agree. Do be mindful of what task you will set us, however. We are honorable Pathfinders and we honor our obligations. But do not mistake us for mercenaries or assassins."
Is Kish sensing any motives here?
GM Shifty
|
Kish gets the feeling that this is what it seems, a meeting with a secretive kingpin with his own agendas. Unfortunately all she has to work with is a voice, the screen and silhouette not giving her the non-verbal cues
"I have many interests, and that includes seeing this 'situation' dealt with neatly. I too am an honourable businessman"
"So, to business. This...'Shadow Lodge'... they are setting up here Kaer Maga to start some little war against Pathfinders and generally making a nuisance of themselves. One of their leaders is at this very moment in the Naderi Theater in the Bis district, where he’s been training and collecting his goblin minions."
Kishara
|
Kishara cuts her eyes at her companions, "Goblins again, eh? Why am I not surprised? Can you describe the Theatre to us? Give us an idea of their defenses, maybe?"
GM Shifty
|
“Yes, Goblins again. The ones on the Path were also sent by the man in the Naderi Theater. I first began to suspect he wasn't a Pathfinder when he ordered those goblins to murder you.”
"Defenses? It's a theatre, disused at present, but a theatre nonetheless. People don't normally put defenses on theatres as they are designed for audiences to move freely into and about in."
“Try not to die, Pathfinders. I like cashing in favors that are owed to me.”
The light behind the curtain fades, and the shadow disappears.
The enforcers look to you and re-ready the bags for your departure.
"Where we picked you up?" the spokesman questions.
Grimaldus
|
"Might as well bring us back to our inn. And we'd like a new tour guide, please. The last one was horrible - he didn't point out unique or special sights along the way, tell us about the history of the area, or anything!" he says with a slight grin.
GM Shifty
|
"Ahh you see" replies the spokesman in a conspiratorial and friendly tone "It's not about the journey, it's about the destination"
Once again the rip repeats itself, bouncing and jostling in a rough wagon. Eventually you reach your Inn, the bags removed and all of yuor gear returned. The enforcers then pile into the wagon and it clops off down the street into Kaer Maga.
Over to you guys, you know where the baddie is. It is by now just after dinner time, your day spent asking about and the lengthy wagon rides eating the daylight.

A night raid my friends or perhaps a dawn raid? It won't slow the goblins but any humans should be at a disadvantage and those in heavy armour won't have time to put it on.

You leave your evenings dwelling and enter a particularly cramped street on the Kaer Maga morning, the ambience is quickly broken by the yips of a goblin attack.
Goblins leap from their hiding places behind barrels and beneath trash piles - the goblins are dressed in the clothes of human children and are carrying little backpacks.
A beggar woman dressed in soiled and torn robes, her hair in tangles and face covered in dirt and soot stands up from a trash can on the far side of them, gesticulating madly!

I'm a little confused where we are? Did we arrive at the theatre and bungle into an ambush?
As Kishara notices the false children, she cries a warning to her companions and rushes forward, dagger in hand. As she reaches the front of the pack, she lets the blade fly toward the goblin directly in front of her. Move to I5 and throw dagger at Goblin @ G5

You have just departed your lodgings and are presently nowhere near the theater, you have only been out the front door for about two minutes, if that. Croissant in one hand, latte in the other. Your breakfast on the go is totally ruined.
Yhen points at a Goblin whilst alerting her friends to the attack, 1d20 ⇒ 1 the Goblin folds and buckles, disappearing back into the trash pile with a heavy thud and crash.
The Goblins stack in, clearly set upon stabbing Lady to death, their fury and hate of the dog clearly warping their minds. The old lady straggles forwards as well.
Kish - Standard action - move or throw :) The G5 one is now sleeping, so keep the roll if you wish and reallocate it.
Mandrak dashes forwards.

Oh no they NOT just get between me and my caffiene... *crazy eye twitch*
One day I will remember what a surprise round is, I swear! >_<
Let's convert it to an Acrobatics check then and she'll move into position @ H3.
Kishara weaves through her companions as she leaps into the air, kicking off the wall beside Haemish and somersaults over the goblin, with slightly more than her usual reckless abandon.

Sorry Grim! Noted Mandrak :)
Kishara spins through the melee, evading blades and sharp pointy objects.
Yhen points at the next Goblin, spitting her Hex, 1d20 ⇒ 12 and it stops its giddy laughter as it falls to the ground.
The remaining Goblin slashes at Lady, 1d20 ⇒ 17 but despite Haemish’s effort, the blow lands and elicits a cruel giggle from the Goblin. 1d4 ⇒ 3 Damage.
The woman points a finger at Grimaldus, and black bolt of energy flies towards him 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 1 - 4 = 8 but his presence in a broader melee stifles the shot.
