Except that Lucent said those who die won't becoming back..
Bad things happen to good people. In the event of character death without feasible possibility of resurrection, you will not be given an opportunity to create a new character. If the party drops below 4 PCs, I will re-open recruitment to pick up another character (at which time you're more than welcome to draft up a new character, but will still need to follow recruitment with other potential recruits). If this occurs there will likely be different recruitment requirements depending on where in the campaign we are.
And I don't really want to haul your carcass around until we find someone who can bring you back.. although I'm perfectly fine with carrying your head so we can find a level 7 druid to reincarnate you, provided we can find one within a week of your death.
But that brings about the whole issue of you might no longer be a merfolk..

Rasso |

Oh. Well...sh*te. Time to Brave Sir Robin it up I guess. Even though Rasso wouldn't really do that. Unless Ordrud can protect me long enough for Rasso to find the healing potions next to him and guzzle a couple.
Edit: Lucent, you said that this is our first "boss" encounter. Is Payden the "boss", or is that Thuldrin? Or both? -_-

Ordrud |

![]() |

I'm guessing the guy with the wand is, as he is apparently 'speshul' enough to have his own room. Plus he uses magic (Even if its just a wand of Magic Missile).

Teladon Azuth |

Edit: Lucent, you said that this is our first "boss" encounter. Is Payden the "boss", or is that Thuldrin? Or both? -_-
Probably both. Next round they are going to do some sorta crazy merge from Final Fantasy and unleash their ultimate.

Rasso |

Maybe. But at low levels bruisers tend to be scarier than casters. I seriously doubt he's going to be putting out 30 some damage a round like Payden can.

Talavuc |

Alright, I'm cutting back my games in an attempt to lessen my anxiety. I've been keeping up with the discussion thread, but not the gameplay one. It's gonna taken me some time to read through the back logged posts. I'll try and have a post up this evening. Crossing my fingers...

Rasso wrote:Edit: Lucent, you said that this is our first "boss" encounter. Is Payden the "boss", or is that Thuldrin? Or both? -_-Probably both. Next round they are going to do some sorta crazy merge from Final Fantasy and unleash their ultimate.
Spontaneous and inappropriate six winged angel explodes out of lodge, shrieking-latin choir from nowhere.
Rasso suddenly effeminate fifteen year old boy with a sword the size of a fallen tree.

Rasso |

It's pretty harsh to kick a player from the game if their character dies, any chance of reconsidering that? I'd hate to loose all this time and effort because of a few crappy rolls. If it's a permadeath world it's gonna make me break character and do things like horde spells for myself and retreat when Rasso would press forward. It's really hard to get into one of your rarely offered games, and I'd rather be bad roleplayer than not get to play at all. :/
Yes, I'm not dead yet. But I'm just saying...

![]() |

Well Lucent did mainly want to bring only 4-5 players.. but I do agree, we've all proven to be awesome players.. would suck to see one of us leave due to death..
Though I'm perfectly fine with a 'temporary' absence until Lucent can find a reasonable spot for the new character to join in. Still, this is such an awesome campaign, I know I wouldn't want to get kicked due to death.
Still, Rasso, if you die, I'll lug your head around until we can find a druid to Reincarnate you. :D The price isn't that expensive, being only 1000 gp in reagents plus a little for the druid's time. I'm pretty certain the latter is like 250 gp? Its really cheap. The only issue is the 1-week time limit.. and the fact you probably won't be a merfolk anymore. Boy would that be wierd, you having legs! Heck you wouldn't be very penalized since your Eidolon is your biggest thing, even if you lose 4 Con from your Merfolk-ness.

Rasso |

I hopefully won't die here, but even so I still think that's a rule Rob should maybe reconsider. I don't think any of us would want to lose out on this awesome game because our character dies.

Seconded

Lucent |

I think it'll wind up being on a case-by-case basis. But we'll see. The last thing I want is for there not to really be a "fear" of death because there's a revolving door of stand-ins waiting in the wings. But on the other hand, later on in levels you'll potentially have access to resurrection magic, so it'll be less of a concern.

Ar'Zarrcal |

In Robert's defense I will say that I went in to this from the beginning knowing that death would be final. It has impacted some of my combat decisions and I think it has helped the game feel more gritty. I am more than content to play by the rules Robert set forth. This is one reason why it was so hard for Ar'Zarrcal to offer his last cure light wounds spell to Ordrud after the battle with the ice creatures. Fortunately, the Orc declined and I healed myself. Also why I pondered long about entering the lodge as I did and exposing myself to gun fire and attacks.

Ar'Zarrcal |

I will get my action in shortly, unfortunately I can only see the static image at the moment. Can anyone give me an update of the still standing opponents positions on the grid?
I believe I was O11. I know that there was a soldier on O9, but I think Styvanius knocked him out and he dropped his musket there.

Teladon Azuth |

Lucent, I would be ok if Teladon died. I enjoy his character alot but I also appercieate the potential for death. It makes combats more tense and forces you to plan ahead (like holding a windy escape in reserve). If he was to die I have other character concepts I would be happy to roll into the mix. That said, I don't want to lose Teladon, but I want you to know that that is part of the risk with playing in a game such as this and I accept it.

![]() |

I actually have a second character idea already down if Marcellano died.. and its kind of a wierd idea!
Buuuut that is of course, only if Marcellano dies. As a ranged combatant with extreme durability, I don't see him dying too easily. Yet.

Rasso |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Well, I'm also fine with Rasso dying. I'd also be okay with a period of however long inactivity while waiting for an appropriate spot to work in a new character. It's not losing Rasso I'd have an issue with, it's losing the chance to play with this group and DM in this unique and awesome setting.
I understand needing the fear of death to be real to keep the game fun, realistic and keep the players from acting like they are invincible without consequences. But I think it should be the fear of character death, not the fear of a random dice roller and a series of a decisions you don't have full control over getting you kicked out of a game that you spent a lot of time getting into and playing. Would any of you ever ask a player to leave a real life game if their character died? I personally wouldn't. Again, my two cents. Rob has said case by case, and this is his game. I'm down with that.
-fingers crossed- Hopefully nothing hits me in the next 11 rounds and the combat is finished up before then.

Teladon Azuth |

@Ar'Zarrcal: It's all good man. Hopefully the color spray is a resounding success and your guy will be stunned and easy to deal with. While you may have horrible luck, Teladon still holds to the elven gods. =p
@Marcellano: Interesting concept. I actually came very close with scrapping Teladon during my concept stage and instead was going to go with an ambassador from Hermea. I was still at the concept stage, but I was thinking about playing a ranger, with the Natural Weapon combat style, who was one of Mengkare experiments with the blending of draconic blood with humanity. His "claws" would be part of his ability to call upon his draconic heritage. I would have started working towards the Eldritch Heritage feat line so I could eventually pick up a breath weapon. If Lucent had approved I would have also re flavored a trait so he would have had a bite attack. I think it would have been really interesting and I could have played around internally with how he saw himself. Is he a Human? Is he something else entirely? It would have been some really fantastic roleplay. Not that I don't love Teladon, I do, but it would have been different.
Hell, I might have petitioned Lucent to let me redraft him as a Dragonborn. If there is anywhere in Pathfinder where a Dragonborn would have been likely, it would have been Hermea.

Hrm, now that I think about it, that might be fun to make:
Dragonborn:
Monstrous Humanoid (3 RP) Monstrous humanoids are similar to humanoids, but have monstrous or animalistic features. They often have magical abilities as well. A monstrous humanoid race has the following features.
Monstrous humanoids have the darkvision 60 feet racial trait.
Monstrous humanoids breathe, eat, and sleep.
Medium (0 RP): Medium races have no bonuses or penalties due to their size. A Medium creature has a space of 5 feet by 5 feet and a reach of 5 feet
Normal Speed (0 RP): The race has a base speed of 30 feet.
Advanced (4 RP): Prerequisites: Advanced or monstrous power level; Modifiers: Pick either mental or physical ability scores. Members of this race gain a +2 bonus to all of those scores, a +4 bonus to one score of the other type, and a –2 penalty to one other ability score of the other type.
Improved Natural Armor (1 RP): Prerequisite: Natural armor racial trait; Benefit: Members of this race gain a +1 natural armor bonus. Special: This racial trait can be taken multiple times. Each additional time you take this trait, increase its cost by 1 RP. Its effects stack.
Frenzy (2 RP): Prerequisites: None; Benefit: Once per day, whenever a member of this race takes damage, it flies into a frenzy for 1 minute, gaining a +2 racial bonus to Constitution and Strength, but a –2 penalty to AC.
Breath Weapon (1 RP): Prerequisites: Aberration, construct, dragon, humanoid (reptilian), monstrous humanoid, or outsider (native) with ties to an elemental plane; Benefit: Choose one of the following energy types: acid, cold, electricity, or fire. If the creature is an outsider (native), it must have ties to an elemental plane, and it must pick an energy that corresponds to the plane it has ties to (acid [earth], cold [water], electricity [air], or fire [fire]). Then pick either a 15-foot cone or a 20-foot line. Once per day, as a standard action, members of this race can make a supernatural breath weapon attack that deals 1d6 points of the damage type chosen in the area chosen. All creatures within the affected area must make a Reflex saving throw to avoid taking damage. The save DC against this breath weapon is 10 + 1/2 the user's character level + the user's Constitution modifier. Those who succeed at the save take no damage from the attack. Special: You can take this trait more than once. Each time you do so, the cost of this trait increases by 1 RP. When do, you can augment the breath weapon in the following ways (augmentations marked with an asterisk
Skill Bonus (intimidate) (2 RP): Prerequisites: None; Benefits: Pick a single skill. Members of this race gain a +2 racial bonus on skill checks made with this skill. Alternatively, pick two related skills—each member of this race gains a +1 racial bonus on these skills during character creation. Special: This trait can be taken up to three times. Each time it is taken, choose a different skill (+2 bonus) or two different skills (+1 bonus on one of character's choice).
So total RP is 13: Equivalent to a Tengus.

Congrats, with Payden dead and all of the hunters either slain or unconscious, Thuldrin (stunned) crumpled when he realized he had no other means of survival except for throwing himself on the mercy of his betters.
What you do from here is entirely up to you. Only one of the hunters (the one hit by Teladon's color spray) survived the encounter. Thuldrin is only minorly injured, but has surrendered to the invading force (again >_>.)
We can go about what happens next in a number of ways. Given that there is a lot of cleaning up, catching up, and preparation to be done we can continue following in direct time from where we stand right now, or when you are ready we can time-skip a little ahead and I can make a narrative post compiling all of the actions/preparations you would like to take.
Right now you have a (drafty) base of operations here in the forest, sentries, and most importantly warm beds to sleep in and a fire to keep you warm. I will provide you with an inventory of the lodge's supplies and equipment from the NPCs who were defeated.
Whether you accept Thuldrin's surrender or execute him/the surviving hunter is up to you and how you come to that decision is up to you. If you would like to hash it out in here OOCly and then have a narrative follow through the punishment, we can do that. Basically, the show is yours, let me know how you want it to all go down.

XP AUDIT
Group XP
200 (Zombies on Red Wraith)
200 (Frostfallen ambush in Falcon's Hollow)
287 (Hunter ambush at ruined mill)
150 (Tatzlwyrm)
225 (Pym, Shor, Vossi and the Walking Dead)
100 (Ice elementals at the winter wall)
45 (Peaceful resolution with Denek and Tyne)
1000 (Lodge siege)
Total: 2,207xp
Individual Bonus XP
Talavuc: +100 (Asking about trails at first meeting)
As we are on the Medium advancement path and you all began at 2nd level with 2,00oxp, you should all now have a total of 4,207xp, while Talavuc has 4,307xp.
3rd level is at 5,000xp, so you are a little shy of leveling.
(While Ordrud was not present for the encounter with the zombies on the Red Wraith, but I'm keeping him aligned with the group total since the only reason he wasn't there was a scheduling issue we had to resolve with his vacation time. Not going to penalize him for that.)
