As a note, my second Ruins of Pathfinder campaign is open for recruitment now:

It's pretty much Dwarf Fortress meets Valhalla Rising meets Pathfinder (no, not that Pathfinder) meets The Thing.

I figure I'll take this moment to shake the trees and see if Talavuc falls out of them. It's been a while since we've heard from her and I just want to know if she's following things any further or not. I know there was some cobwebbiness being shaken off in regards to the character. If I don't hear anything by Friday she'll be on the block for writing out and that makes me sad :<

However, the all dwarf party looks AWESOME!

For what it's worth (if it's worth anything, hah!) I'll throw out a ringing endorsement for Thron/Dolgrin in your Dorfs recruitment thread. He's my friend and a player in my RL Pathfinder game, so I may be a little biased, but I'll vouch for him all the same.

Just a reminder, I'm waiting on actions from Teladon, Talavuc (fingers crossed) and Ar'Z before I proceed. If I don't hear anything by tonight I'll presume they're holding their actions awaiting Fenyx's go-ahead.

Just a heads-up to everyone, my first freelance work is available on the paizo store (for free!) Wayfinder #9. I wrote the "secretkeeper" prestige class!

Not that it's terribly useful in this campaign, of course, but I'll consider it readily available in anything I run, and I'm opening up all Wayfinder content on a case-by-case basis, to support the publication.

I can get down with it allowing a +2 while moving at crawling speed; 5-feet per round. Kind of the way a ghillie suit works when crawling. That low profile would afford the stealth bonus for size too, but pretty much only while crawling. It's a good strategy when not pressed for time, such as your situation.

Cool! I am glad you agree. While I don't think it would be as sophisticated as This snow ghillie suit it was what I was envisoning. I was thinking about what training Teladon might have taken away from guerrilla battles against the drow that held Celwynvian, I could see him being familar with the tactic. If I had known that we diden't have a scout, I would have taken a trait to pick up Stealth as a class skill. Ironically, the Spire Defender archetype gives a bonus to steath later on, but I decided not to go that route as I think its kind of a poor trade off.

I will be NPCing both Ar'Zarrcal and Talavuc during this encounter. If they do not show up by the end of the encounter, they will be temporarily written out of the story and removed from the group with an opportunity to return if their players return before the end of the first book. If they do not actively return following this, they will permanently be written out of the story. I hate to do it but I think I've been pretty generous overall :<

I'm sorry I rolled a 4 on my stealth check! >.> This is no where near as bad as the time I was playing my Dwarf Rogue in a game and I effectively attempted to "Pet the Worgs", alerting an entire orc camp to our group's presence.

All because I wanted to sneak into the tent to see what kind of goodies I could find. I found poison traps.

I think we'll be okay, we got the peasants to join us.

The outcome of Denek and Tyne's conversation with Dann is mostly going to result in Dann telling them to hang back and see what happens. They'll follow whichever tide seems to be strongest. This is mostly because of Denek and Tyne's attitudes only being brought back to indifferent after the gut-punch to their morale they got earlier.

Thankfully, they were able to convince Dann to listen. If the fight goes in your favor, they'll join in on your side.

Worth noting: There's really only two good ways up onto the hill. One is the rope bridge and the other is the trail you came up. Everything else requires climbing, so it's a pretty defensible location should things go sideways for you guys. So anything advancing from the forest heart will have to come across the rope bridge, which is 1 person at a time, so you do have that bottleneck.

Be careful in this encounter, it's easily the toughest you've had yet and your first real "boss" encounter.

Oh good.. and we do it at low resources. Well time to pull out the stops!

It's funny, though, I think your (admittedly unexpected) plan may work to your advantage if you can leverage it. Several of the main damage dealers started the encounter asleep and will need to get their gear. None of them slept in their armor, so they either need to don hastily or go without.

It's been super impressive to see this happen, even with all the odds against it working.

To be honest, I was kind of figuring he'd raise the alarm when he saw me, and so I shot. I figured that, with a particularly noisy distraction from this side of the cabin, they would not expect anyone to attack from their rear. Granted, I didn't realize how far the shot's sound would have carried, so I do hope we don't get reinforcements from the other side of the bridge.

Just my two cents.. I wasn't completely out of my mind.. I swear..

No you totally made the right call shooting him. He was going to wake up the hunters and then go out back. Shooting him forced him into the building more. He has no idea how many people are out there and how many guns there are.

In fact, he probably assumes you're Girardin the dwarven rifleman they never found the body of (and thus presumed was still alive.)

There's one window down, I'm not going to hold onto trying to save those, We can barricade them up later if we have to. The windows are going to be way easier to get through than a barred door. (unless they're too high up). The men are going to be groggily rising to gather their weapons/don armor hastily, let's catch them with their pants down (or while they're pullin em up!)

I'm planning on having Styv move up to 0-6 and fire his musket into the room there, hopefully catching the hunter as he's rolling out of bed.

Ar'z and Talavuc/ Naasvit could enter through R-9 and R-12 respectively, Kain through Q-8, and maybe one of the front group through H-12 if we can catch that hunter before he gets out of the room. Payday is going to be fun I imagine. haha.

Anyway, any objections to Styv firing his musket? It might ruin the illusion of only one dwarf being the intruder. Or it might make them terrified of a really fast dwarf.

Okay, I've had the chance to read up. Would I be right in assuming that Ar'Zarrcal's full action for this turn was getting to the door or did you also NPC him to hold his action or something similar?

Being the surprise round I just had him do a 20-foot move to the door.
