Karnog Kegmeister |

"Okay. Standing by."
Karnog grips his hammer in readiness but holds per Felicitas's instructions.

baldwin the merciful |

by the color you know that red's are evil and fire breathers, known for roasting their prey alive. Nothing like a perfect medium well steak. the have a multitude of attacks: spells, wings, tail, bite, crush, and breath that you know about. The mere presence of the beast can cause you to wet yourself. They like to dazzle the terrain with smoke causing their victims to have obscured vision but causes no ill effect to their own sight. It's not know as the "King of the Chromatics" for nothing.
That is all you know.

Grungsdi |

just woke up
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 Percep
1d20 + 2 - 8 ⇒ (10) + 2 - 8 = 4 stealth

Karnog Kegmeister |

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21 perception
1d20 - 4 ⇒ (15) - 4 = 11 stealth

baldwin the merciful |

Karnog sounds like he is walking on pillows when compared to Grung. Both dwarfs get a line of sight on the Ogres.
Ogres perception, Group1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Ogres perception, Group2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Ogres perception, Group3: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Quite a few ogres start to tense up as they hear noises coming from the nearby underbrush and woods. Some point in your the general direction.

baldwin the merciful |

DMPC rolls:
Desmond
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
Kalim
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Malcolm
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Desmond cringes as he hides, damn companions are like oxen..
Everyone has a view of the ogres position.

Karnog Kegmeister |

"So, Felicitas; what do we do? Is there something hiding we should know about?"

Karnog Kegmeister |

"Huge red dragon. Okay. Where, exactly? All I see are ogres."

Karnog Kegmeister |

"The huge. Red. Dragon? Afraid? I have heard some funny things in my time but that's gotta be up there. "

Karnog Kegmeister |

"Ah. Yeah, that makes more sense. Me too, Aurora. Ive no desire to be dragon chow today."

Grungsdi |

It could be fun to kill a dragon, just make us immune to fire...right?

Karnog Kegmeister |

"That would work, if I had that magic prepared. Unfortunately, I did not."

Grungsdi |

oh i didn't read that one...but i guess it makes sense that we would have shared rumors

Crush 'em More |

Several of the ogres start to walk towards your general direction to investigate the creaking and crunching noises they heard. They either don't see the red dragon perched staring down, or alternatively, for whatever reason don't have a concern about the dragon.
What is the group going to do you have several options available to you.

Grungsdi |

So this dragon apparently likes to attack unwitting foes...maybe we should let the dragon know that we know its there.

baldwin the merciful |

You see the dragon spread it's massive wings. It flaps twice and its massive body buffets in the air. Although not the most graceful flier, it is beautiful to watch. Until it begins it swoop towards the trees.
I need everyone make a perception check and a Will save, including Aurora.

Grungsdi |

is this spell/SLA/Poison?
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 percep
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 +2 if it is any of the above

Karnog Kegmeister |

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 will (+2 vs spell or SLA)

Karnog Kegmeister |

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27 perception

baldwin the merciful |

It's not a spell/SLA.Poison, but thanks for adding the conditional +2, that does really help me keep track of things.
Karnog roll out a perception.
Grung you're stoned willed, but you catch out of the corner of your eye the ogres pointing over the trees, they are clearly worried about what they see.

baldwin the merciful |

You spot the massive shadow blocking out the sun as it falls over the trees, you feel presence of the terrifying beast and you are panicked by the impending doom. It's aura cripples your rational thought.
You missed the save by a quite a bit so you are frightened as opposed to shaken.
A frightened creature flees from the source of its fear as best it can. If unable to flee, it may fight. A frightened creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. A frightened creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.
Frightened is like shaken, except that the creature must flee if possible. Panicked is a more extreme state of fear.

baldwin the merciful |

You see several ogres stop dead in their tracks, then several others bolt head low towards the cover of the trees. This gets you to look up when you are in awe of the swooping dragon. It's frightful presence overcomes your resolve as you are shaken by its presence.
A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. Shaken is a less severe state of fear than frightened or panicked.
EDIT: You actually feel Malcolm unbending resolve and that steadies your nerves. You are not shaken.

baldwin the merciful |

Desmond Aeros |

Ermahgerd the DC is over 20 I am not feeling confident about fighting this thing guys.
Despite Malcolm's reassuring presence strengthening his resolve, Desmond decides the best place for him is under cover where he hopefully cannot be seen...

Karnog Kegmeister |

D'oh! It shouldn't matter but his save should be 1 higher...forgot to increase my domain resistance bonus to 2.
Karnog books it away from the shadowy winged creature. 40' double move or 60' run (depending on starting terrain I guess).

baldwin the merciful |

Feli with the +4 morale bonus from Malcolm you actually make you save. Aurora also makes his save.
[i]Why am I still here?[i]you wonder. You are not certain but you believe it is sucking in air as it descends to bellow in that massive furnace of his.

Felicitas Sweetfingers |

"RUN! He is about to breath fire!"
Casting haste and then sprinting of Feli runs away, just away from the path the dragon might take. Any place where she is save from the breath will do!

baldwin the merciful |

Feli basically following the wise dwarf in the lead. :-)
Malcolm perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
"Holy Abadar...run!
Kalim:
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
You take a deep breath feeling the chaotic situation arise, there is alomost a soothing sensation to you as your will withstands the impending doom. However, your eyes is keen.
Without hesitation the sorcerer follows Karnog, "Run your fools!

baldwin the merciful |

The comrades spread out running within the trees, there is sound of ogres crashing into the trees but farther south.
Grung is reluctant to leave a fight, so he takes a split moment to look at the ogres to make sure they don't follow. To his amazement he witnesses the chaotic anger, or maybe it was passion, of a terrifying beast.
fire: 14d10 ⇒ (8, 7, 8, 10, 10, 2, 2, 7, 10, 7, 5, 4, 7, 8) = 95
reload: 1d4 ⇒ 4
The awe inspiring flame roasts the flesh off of three ogres and for a second the dwarf believes he heard a deep laugh from the sky. With that he breaks into a run after his comrades.

Felicitas Sweetfingers |

My wive saw Out of Africa last night. About the same situation. And it said if in doubt stand still. Maybe he he has just fed and wants to know if you are prey or hunter.
