"Be ready. There is something moving on the other side of this door, and I doubt that it is friendly."
So saying, Amenhotep opens the door.

Bow ready, the small crusader waits.

As the door is opened there is a giant beetle that appears to be moving corpses into a large makeshift nest of rubbish and bodies.
It stops and looks over in your direction as you've disturbed it.
Anyone stepping into the room?
Male Human Empyreal Sorcerer 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 10/10/10) (CMD 11) (Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +9) (Init +0) (Perception +8)
"Well, we can't have that..."
Amenhotep rushes forward to attack the beetle.

Ellenar appears to have disappeared so I'll post for her.
Ellenar moves in closer to get into the room and within reach of the creature.
Amenhotep's attack strikes so hard that it cracks the creature's Carapace and then splatters him in some of it's juice. The wound was terrible, but didn't quite bring it down.
I'll keep the game going despite many people not posting in a while. They've done atleast 3 or so, so they may still get the certs. Be great if they joined later.
Adeah moves in with her weapon ready, taking the time to move the distance to get a lock on it.
The beetle, clearly wounded badly decides to bite Amenhotep, catching him in the gut and tearing into him.

"A little help would be appreciated!"

It's ok, my hours have increased so I admit some days I come back home and just don't feel like writing and instead hopping into Arkham City...despite having complete the game a few years ago on PS3.
Also as Belina posted in a single line I completely missed the fact she posted...
Belina's arrow kills the beetle in a single s@!*, skewering it's head as it falls to the floor.
The pile it was building appears to have been a nest it was trying to make with a few bodies and random pieces of ruined trash. You don't find anything of more interest here besides another door and a set of stairs that descend downwards.

Amenhotep breathes a sigh of relief when the creature falls.
After thoroughly checking the door for traps, Amenhotep opens it, to see what lays beyond.
Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map
Sorry it's taking a while. I'm attempting to find somekind of balance as the creature in the room is a little beyond most of you. do you want to heal up amenhotep first?
Male Human Empyreal Sorcerer 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 10/10/10) (CMD 11) (Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +9) (Init +0) (Perception +8)
Well then, let's see what's behind another door, then...
Having a premonition that it may not be such a good idea, Amenhotep channels...
1d6 ⇒ 1
1d6 ⇒ 6
1d6 ⇒ 5
... and heads down the stairs.
Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map
You can still enter, I was just worried as you were on 4/15. One well placed hit and down you go. Plus you already stated you were going into the room so I'll come up with an encounter for there.
Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map
Right, I've got an idea.
As Amenhotep opened the door he notices the room is filled in a choking smoke that makes the eyes water. Something is burning quite badly in here, but before you can see any deeper, you notice on the floor appears to be a very finely made dagger.
Male Human Empyreal Sorcerer 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 10/10/10) (CMD 11) (Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +9) (Init +0) (Perception +8)
Wary of a trap, Amenhotep gingerly steps forward to pick up the dagger.
Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map
Was hoping to hear more call offs from other members, but nevermind.
You manage to pick it up without an issue. You notice that there are a trail of various discarded pieces of clothing towards the source of the smoke deeper into the room.
Male Human Empyreal Sorcerer 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 10/10/10) (CMD 11) (Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +9) (Init +0) (Perception +8)
Amenhotep looks back questioningly at the others.
"Why would someone disrobe down here?"

"I hope that the dagger wasn't their only weapon and they could defend themselves in case of danger."
Ellenar steps up beside Amen, weapon at the ready.

The cloths are torn. More like torn apart from some kind of beast. Also, anyone moved up on the map?
Male Human Empyreal Sorcerer 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 10/10/10) (CMD 11) (Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +9) (Init +0) (Perception +8)

@DM Aron: As far as I can tell, Adeah and Tenzin have dropped from this game; should we really still include them in initiative?
In other news, this is going to be an extremely painful fight :-/
Halfling Paladin (Oath of Vengeance) 1 | AC: 18 (t 15, ff 14) | HP: 12/12 | Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +0 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +4 | Perc +0
Belina activates her ability to smite evil and fires an arrow at the shadow when the way is clear.
smite/damage: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 201d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
su=smite, hope it does full damage to creature

Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map
@Amenhotep I better include them. It'll make the whole thing over faster AND as there's 6 of you a CR3 creature should be a challenge. I still couldn't find anyone making a guide on how to lower things, but I'll be a bit creative slightly later.
@Belina Being undead, the creature takes extra damage as the smite damage changes from +level to +2xlevel against undead, evil outsiders and evil-aligned dragons. Not much, but you do 1 bit extra damage. Don't know why you've put down divine grace if you're still 1st level.
Adeah aims her firearm and fires at the creature.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Damage: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 only takes half-damage so 5 instead
Traflet's attack appears to miss the shadow as it moves out of the way quickly, flickering out of reality.
Ellenar steps forward and performs her Lion's call, knowing she cannow harm the shadow with her spear.
+1 to an order of the lion cavalier gains the ability to rally her allies. As a standard action, she can give an encouraging speech which grants all allies within 60 feet a competence bonus on their saving throws against fear equal to her Charisma modifier and a +1 competence bonus on attack rolls for a number of rounds equal to her cavalier level. If an ally within range is under the effect of a spell or ability that causes him to be frightened or panicked, he can immediately make another saving throw to resist the effect (if allowed).
Belina's blade smashes hard into the incorporeal figure, making it solid for a moment as it cuts deep into the creature. It decides to retaliate and reaches out to touch Belina, however due to the holy glow around her she is protected from it's attack.
Attack vs touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Smite evil is PERFECT for this situation. It's undead so it's obviously evil, it is the only target and you get your Cha bonus to AC so against this creature you have 18 AC lol.
Tenzin remains at the back as he is unable to impact this creature at all.

Muttering a prayer to Wadjet under his breath, Amenhotep takes a swing at the shadow.

Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map
Not going to bother with the others as Belina's bow kills it.
Belina's bow, though a material weapon, was still blessed with her smite evil ability and the arrow goes into the shadow creature, revealing it to be the decised spirit of one of the villagers who had been killed earlier and it fades away into nothing.
The smoke was meant to make your eyes water and give you a -2 to attacks, but considering your levels and this was a shadow I decided not to do that to you.
The fire in the room is still burning away with many dead bodies ontop of it. there appears to be a glinting of something now red-hot hidden under the gear of some of the bodies.
Male Human Empyreal Sorcerer 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 10/10/10) (CMD 11) (Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +9) (Init +0) (Perception +8)
Amenhotep breathes a sigh of relief when the shadow discorporates.
Yes, incorporeals, especially something like a shadow, are devastating at level 1, when parties may not have an effective way to deal with it, and recovering from the battle can take *ages*...
"Good job, Belina! I am glad we have you with us..."
He then begins to cautiously search the room.

Amenhotep gingerly pushes the key out of the fire, and waits for it to cool, before picking it up.
"Right. Let's continue on our way."
Sparing a brief glance at the stairs leading down, he then returns to the original chamber, and tries the door on the other side of the room.

As you enter this room you see that in the centre of this large area is a massive pool of clear water, fed by a fountain on the wall above it. The fountain has a stone statue of a weeping maiden holding the slain body of Kassen, bis his head has been broken off and is nowhere to be seen. A voice booms out loud
"Magic is the key"
As the voice fades there is a deafening silence.
There is a door to the south that appears quite ornate and appears to be locked beyond the skill of anyone here.
Male Human Empyreal Sorcerer 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 10/10/10) (CMD 11) (Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +9) (Init +0) (Perception +8)

A small stone bench sits in the centre of this dusty chamber. On the far wall there is a faded mural depicting the hero, Kassen, defeating the mercenaries at the entrance to this crypt, with his blade piercing the chest of the mercenary leader. These figures stand alone in the centre of a scene of carnage with dead villagers and mercenaries all around them.

I will be running Crypt of the Everflame and will make sure to try and tailor the difficulty as this was made pre-pfs and it's origonal intention was to level half-way through. Since this cannot be the case with PFS 2nd levels would be helpful, but I know many will want to use their 1st levels to get to 2nd after the moduel so if we have all 1st I'll be sure to scale it.
I am going to start up this Modual on Friday so I'l give you plenty of time to get characters ready.
I have a level 2 warpriest if need be, but I'd prefer to level this guy. I'll fit them both for online play within the hour.
I can get my stat block up tonight. Currently at work, and email isn't liking me at the moment. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone at level two at the moment.
Alynthar can be built to level two if needed.
Alynthar42 wrote: Alynthar can be built to level two if needed. I am under the impression that this is for Pathfinder Society, so it'll have to be through that ruleset. Need a character confirmed to be level two, under a society number, and legal to play at the proper level range. Otherwise, I could build a level two character at will. Society is fun, and can reward inventive play, but is a special kind of homebrew that has a global rule set, which allows players to play their characters around the world, without having to rebuild.
@GM, I'm changing my submission to this character, rather than my Brawler (Saans), as I have pdfs of chronicle sheets at home I can upload and send. Currently, Morrin's at 2/3 of his first level, so this may bump him close to level 3 when finished.... If he lives, haha.
Also, I still need to scan my ITS, but that'll be all settled out by Monday evening / Tuesday morning.
@Alythar, I'm not trying to be harsh, I would just like the table be PFS compliant if the DM wants it played for PFS.

I agree, it needs to be complient with PFS. Only time you can kinda break the rule (like re-playing a scenario that is non-replayable) is to make a full table, but I doupt I'll have much trouble finding people on here.
I could certainly be tempted by this :-)

Well, I just felt like rushing I guess. Anyway, if you nerf or otherwise change encounters, is it still PFS legal? This might be a newbie question.
Sorry. Didn't realize it was for PFS. Will have to withdraw, then.
I had this pathfinder alias ready for a hobbit goodwife turned paladin archer to start her PFS career.
I have a level 3 aasimar sorcerer with a glaive otherwise.
Traflet just finished up his first scenario, and I'd love to play if you're okay with a 1st level character.
Ellenar has just been created, and I would love to see if she could join!
As a heads up, my posting may be a little sporadic, since I don't have guaranteed access to a computer with internet access. If it's ok with you, I could be a backup character, just in case someone else drops.
Also, she started with a lot more than normal gold. Hope that doesn't hinder my chances.
Lars Wildblade wrote: Well, I just felt like rushing I guess. Anyway, if you nerf or otherwise change encounters, is it still PFS legal? This might be a newbie question. I believe it would be legal as I remember reading it up saying that it was allowed for old modules, since ones like Crypt of the Everflame, were designed to have characters level up half-way through, otherwise it'd be suicidal.

The levels have to be 1 or 2 as is the tier here.
Interested, sent you a PM Aron. Depending on answer, would like to submit a character.
If you don't already have enough, I have this level 2 aasimar gunslinger who'd love to join.
Also, Ellenar I'm kind of confused as to how you got all your gold. You know you can't apply that Chronicle until you reach the level it was played at, right?

I believe you can get "out of tier" money, but it's only 500gp for 1st level, no day job gold and only 1 Prestige, but I could be wrong.

Well crud....I'm gonna back out of this until I have some more info about how money works with PFS.
Good luck players! All the info should be in the pfs guide regarding the use of money and so on. You can always as in the discussion if uncertain about a few things like I do. Afterall, no one expects you to know it all :)
Very intersting characters so far. I never got to play this moduel beyond "the group is about to leave the village" then the GM would wonder off. It wasn't pfs so everyone was just sort of left hanging around.
Well, that doesn't sound fun. At least with PFS, there may be people looking to play, when th the up most intention of finishing a scenario of module. With this being a module, we can have quite a bit of fun!

I have this character, a second level alchemist, ready and eager to play, if there is still room
Chronicles and ITP will be uploaded tonight. Just got the paperwork scanned. Need to get home as to upload and linkify.
Good news everyone!
I finally got my character sheet updated and I have all the kinks worked out. Turns out Ellenar was 2nd lvl!
If there's still room (from the look of things not likely) I'd like to reapply for a seat! I'd settle for a backup if someone else drops if that's alright.
Crud, looks like I forgot my binder at home. Upload will be tomorrow evening. Also, my sheets have a good amount of writing on them, as I love to put down any purchases that weren't part of character creation on them, before putting them onto the inventory tracking page.
submitting my level 1 Oread Grappler hoping that there is still room (yes I have the appropriate boons to play an oread)
Just so you know, I'm super jealous of that :-P
An Oread grappler sounds fun. I have a Sylph bard that's focused around Butterfly's Sting. Not a power hitter, but that isn't his job, which is crit fishing, haha.
Alrighty mister DM Aron, here are the sheets I had promised. (I tried to get good scans, but the grey lettering kinda makes it a tad difficult.

Here be Saren's Chronicle Sheets, if so desired

Crud, made a mistake with the link for the ITS report..... Fixing it when I get home. (Grabbed the incorrect link)
If you still need them, I can bring a 2nd level channeling oracle or a 2nd level melee bloodrager. But your group may already be full.
Hmm..this is weird...I'm attempting to set up the discussion thread, but for some reason it won't seem to let me post it.
Hmmm.... Maybe it is something to do with the website upgrade? If worst comes to worst, you could always just set up a new thread?
Not sure how the table is looking either, but I have just made up a brand new Magus that would love an adventure.
I want to start my kobold out somewhere, if I'm welcome.
I'm a sorc with the draconic bloodline. Lvl1
I'm also new to the online campaigns, only available on weekdays
Is there a boon that allows kobold PC's? I wasn't aware of that, sounds kool!
That certainly makes it difficult to start the game
Very much so. I think there was a hiccup as I can't see my last post in the thread..... Or I accidentally clicked on something I shouldn't have. Also, Madik, I would love to see the boon for a Kobold character, as they sound like they could be fun!

I generally don't ask to check people's sheets as I assume you are being truthful, however for odd races like that I'm curious about the boon if you're able to show it at all.
On the recruitment, I've got a list of the people so far before I decide.
Applicants:
Lars Wildblade - Human Ranger 1
Morrin the Stout - Human Kineticist 1
Belina Bojan - Halfling Paladin 1
Traflet Shorttrunk - Gnome Sorceror 1
Adeah Silversong - Aasimar Gunslinger 2
Saren Brand - Half-elf Alchemist (Bramble Brewer, Grenader) 2
Dag Madik - Kobold Sorceror 1
Caius Swain - Human Magus 1
Amenhotep of Wati - Aasimar Cleric 1
Tenzin the Calm-Hearted - Oread Monk (Flowing monk, Tetrid) 1
have I missed anyone out?
Well, it depends if you are going for the scaled down level 1 group or a full octane group. I have 2 level 2 characters depending upon what is needed. But I don't want to kill the lower level guys because I'm being challenged.
Considering Madik also has his alignment listed as neutral evil, I would assume he doesn't understand what PFS is.
If you still have room i have a level 1 slayer or level 1 bard that i would like to run through the crypt. I can make a profile for them later.
I put my alignment on so I could possibly put him in other games
As for the kobold, its in the advanced race guide for pathfinder.
Pretty much as a goblin but with different benifits
