GM Mort |

Well if you want to investigate the other buildings there's still some way, but if you're talking about book completion, should you have gone down, it'd have already been done and you guys can head back to snooze.

![]() |

Eh.
I figure we will re-evaluate the question of the outbuildings, once we have cleared-out whatever awaits us downstairs.
If worst comes to worst, we can always barricade ourselves into the kitchen or library, then clear out the outbuildings in the morning.

![]() |

I mean, theoretically, the exterior stuff should be 'less dangerous' then the stuff nearer the end of the dungeon...

Vincent Arazeiros |

Yeah. We could go to previously blockaded room and rest when dungeon and main building is clear. I assume the woman with the denizen of Leng was the assassin we never found? The one who ran away

GM Mort |

Yes. On the woman being the assasin. I'd have loved to try a death attack on you lot, but alas I didn't get a chance to =(

Vincent Arazeiros |

Well she did apparently find another rapier. :P

GM Mort |

Seamus - Winter is behaving like a cat...she will help you, only if she wants to.
Basically it's a what's in it for her thing.
As Angus has said during Carrion Hill, Pharasma is concerned about undead but doesn't really care overly much about the Dark Tapestry and its denziens.
In part it has to do with the GM trying to preserve the purity of the arcane casters only experiment.
We've come so far.. We must complete the experiment!

![]() |

Yeah! For Science!
Alas.. sacrifices have to be made...
I know my sanity may be in question too =)

Vincent Arazeiros |

I had no idea you could take mine go and elder thing! I've been taking every evil occult or outsider language on the list haha.
Are there other languages besides those?

GM Mort |

Try Aklo. It's like common for aberrations types. Well not exactly RAW, and honestly does negate Howard putting ranks into Elder Thing, but again having the entire table sit around and do nothing is >.<

Vincent Arazeiros |

No I don't mind putting ranks in it, I just didn't know it was an option. Are there more cthuluesque languages or just those two?

![]() |

HERE is a list of useful 'non-Golarion' languages, several of which are Mythos-related.
Ib will be my next choice, followed by Grioth :-)

GM Mort |

Eh. I just quoted the Bible inadvertently. I was aiming for more of a red pill/blue pill, assasins creed style kind of thing.

GM Mort |

Howard - how do you feel about 3rd party stuff like spheres of power, path of war etc?

GM Mort |

Yeah my thoughts too. Even though there's a nice gestalt game recruitment and there'd be science I'd like to do, I don't want to feel like a scrub. I know I do know some pathfinder cheese but I don't know how it stacks against 3rd party material. And I don't want to feel like a scrub.
I know how people say path of war was what pathfinder martials should have been.
I dropped the boss fight recruitment as in trying to get concessions from the GM for weird stuff, one of the posters there was being positively rude to the rest and the environment was getting toxic.
If your desire to win blinds you out to everything else, then you're doing things for the wrong reasons.
Sure I know I have a fairly large competitive streak in me, but I hope it hasn't been turning me into a monster...

GM Mort |

Leonard - I will have to tell you frostbite will do nothing to the Byakhee. The byakhee is immune to cold. So it won't take any non lethal cold damage and since the fatigue is tied to the non lethal cold damage, as per this:
The fatigued condition ends when the target recovers from the nonlethal damage.
So since it cannot take any damage, there is no way for the fatigued condition to end - which is pretty ridiculous - and definitely through no fault of its own, so frostbite does not work on byakhees.

Vincent Arazeiros |

Thanks Howard!
I'll probably do yithian and elder thing (who wouldn't want to speak old one) and let you do miss go and ib.
Then we can speak in elder thing to each other to creep the party out!

Vincent Arazeiros |

Looks like hovering provokes AOO, will let you roll that.

GM Mort |

It was already 5ft in the air to begin with so there's no AOO. It just moved to one side with a 5ft step.
Byakhee is 5 ft in the air, Slide 17.
Hey... I'm not good at naming stuff. At least, keep it simple and you guys might get the names right, else you would probably mangle the names.

Vincent Arazeiros |

Oh missed that. I read your I won't roll fly check wrong as if he moved to hover not maintain.

Vincent Arazeiros |

Out of curiosity, what are the mechanics of getting the extra 10ft reach I need to hit the woman by climbing up Leonard and the byakhee? :D

GM Mort |

If he moves less then half his move speed it's DC 15 fly check. Since he autopasses on his 5ft step flying from one aerial space to another, I ain't rolling for him.
Suffice to say his modifiers for fly>15.
Once your spellcraft get high enough to auto identify spells I won't roll for you lot and will just give.
Leonard - once you autopass on your concentration - you don't need to roll, either.
Fly and concentration are skill checks/ability checks. They do not fail even on a nat 1.
If the enemies do buff up... And you try to wait their buffs out, they'll come after you =)

GM Mort |

I don't think there are any mechanics to climb up people...
I'd just say it's not possible.

Seamus Passeri |
Seamus there will be cover for you from your current position since the thing since the stairwell is only 5 ft high but the creature is 5 ft above ground. The caster is out of sight.
If it's only 5 ft, were we crouching? Wouldn't the ceiling be 8 ft to 10 ft? Wouldn't the door frame be seven to ten foot? Not that it matters, he moved forward, don't know if he takes an AOO.

GM Mort |

You don't take AOO as you have not stepped out of threatened space yet.
Oh wait you get AOO for shooting.
I suppose it's in abstract, but you still get cover. Remember your GM is 5'1 =)

Vincent Arazeiros |

Well it might be hard to climb a byahkee but not impossible...
I'm thinking, acrobatics to avoid aoo plus a climb check and a grapple check? Or something. You can climb people. They might fall over or something?

Vincent Arazeiros |

Right but hypothetically, wouldn't it just me movement through enemy space and a climb check using the people as handholds? Lol

Seamus Passeri |
Did winter cast guidance on Seamus? if so please add one to the attack, I did not include it.
Ok going to bed, I will be traveling tomorrow, so posting will be spotty.
If Seamus' turn comes around again have him take a 5 ft step if he needs to and shoot two shots at the monster, of course if the monster is dead he will target the woman using Howards guidance.
ooc - 1 level, + 2 inspire, Attack:+1 Longbow (+2str), PS, RS, AS, DA, PBS, ooc
dice=attack 1d20+5+1+1/dice ooc for ooc dice=damage 1d8+9+1+2 /dice
dice=attack 1d20+5+1+1/dice ooc for ooc dice=damage 1d8+9+1+2 /dice

GM Mort |

Eh it'd be more of case of climb + Acro, if the person was willing. Unwilling would be climb + Acro +CMD(since the person is trying to buck you off).
Believe me it's not that easy to balance up there.
Can't be arsed to make up mechanics on the spot, since it isn't if you guys couldn't fly, or at least bring a potion of enlarge person if you so wanted to.
Enlarge person = grow to 10 ft. Reach weapon =doubled reach =+20 ft reach.
So you'd get to hit anything within 30ft of the ground.
Even with 1 from guidance, still a miss.

Vincent Arazeiros |

I have no fly and no enlarge. Would I stop fighting and run back to town to get one? Lol

GM Mort |

I'm having a cold at home and will take my cold medication(may cause drowsiness). If I don't attend to posts, it's probably because I'm passed out in some corner.

GM Mort |

I will, I will. Just been under the weather.
There's also another option of grappling her since she's come down now. (You have 10 ft reach and occupy a space of 5 feet, right?)Though you'll need to drop your longspear since humanoid creatures get a -4 to grapple without free hands, as per:
Humanoid creatures without two free hands attempting to grapple a foe take a –4 penalty on the combat maneuver roll
Technically you would take an AOO for not having improved grapple but how you AOO something 10 feet away without a reach weapon...well...ahaha..not possible either.
There's this feat, but seriously take a GOOD LOOK at the BAB requirements. If she had +11 BAB all of you really need to be VERY worried.(We're looking at a 15th level caster...)

GM Mort |

2/3rd of Book 4 maps done. Geez I guess I can't just sit around doing nothing...

Leonard Giles Neithan |

It's actually not too hard to climb on top of someone, even if they're resisting. I'd bet that Vincent could do it if Pathfinder had more realistic rules regarding flanking and facing, which really don't give enough of a bonus.

Seamus Passeri |
Did winter cast guidance on Seamus? if so please add one to the attack, I did not include it.
Did I miss the answer to this question somewhere?
yeah, just finished driving eight hours to go to eastern Pennsylvania to take my mother in law to an anniversary party...
oh, and get some rest and feel better soon!

GM Mort |

Yes, Winter did guide you, but you missed the creature even with Guidance.
I did answer your question.
With regard to those mechanics not in rule books - a character can make skill checks all day.
A caster has to spend limited resources(spell slot) to achieve advantage(not getting hit by melee dudes).
So the caster in question should get bang for his buck so to speak.
I wouldn't let my monsters climb on other monsters to hit flying you, though if they had a climb speed they might climb onto the celling and hit you from there.

GM Mort |

I did think for an experiment sometime, yes, Seamus...on the reverse of this.
*gives Seamus a pointed look*
How about a pathfinder module with only classes with no spellcasting, or 4th level spellcasting only =)
No alchs or investigators allowed either =)
The module in question will be above level 5. Below it's too easy. Not a challenge at all.
