About magical solutions and bad writing:
I do mind if you skipped entire book 3’s content – since I took the trouble to prep it.
Petty, but yeah there it is.
Sure – I could say you can teleport to your destination in Katheer etc. The only problem is by skipping Book 3, you’ll just end up there 2 levels early (since I can’t give you xp for forking out gp to buy a teleport spell, can I?). And be permanently 2 levels behind for the entire AP. Granted it’d be another one of those ironman challenges, Howard might be game for, but I’m not so sure about the rest of the party.
If you REALLY want to do it that way, yes I suppose I can run Book 4 straight. Then I better start prepping Book 5 now, so I can stay one step ahead of you lot.
Then if teleport was available in town (for shopping purposes), why wouldn’t you just buy a teleport to Katheer? There would be a suspension of disbelief…I try to get things running in a more realistic fashion in my gameworlds.
I told everyone at start that AP world may not have a magic mart. How you wish to deal with the problem is up to you.
I also prefer that PCs solve their own problems then rely on NPCs to do things for them(i.e spellcasting services etc.). Though I know with only arcane casters, you WILL need to go to NPCs for raise. Unless planar binding takes place.

Seamus Passeri |
Seamus is going to need a new language, what do they speak in dreamland?
Edit, Also may wait to see what cash level is permitted in Cassomir before I create a purchase list.
second edit: I have Seamus done except for spill list and purchase items, I will update him once I have his spell list figured out.
Any recommendations?

GM Mort |

Whatever they speak in the waking world. Sorry, but that's the plain truth. There's no immigration control in the Dreamlands, so to speak.
They even allow cats in there! =D

GM Mort |

Looking from the wiki, I'd say 16k base value. Unless of course, Howard comes up with a more accurate stat block.

GM Mort |

Spell recommendations:
Look at Inarus's stat block to see what you're missing.
Lv 1 spells(6/day): Grease, Liberating Command, Saving Finale, Ear Piercing Scream, Solid Note, Remove Fear, Comprehend Languages, Feather Step, Hideous Laughter
Lv 2 spells (5/day): Silence, Glitterdust, Invisibility, Blur, Mirror Image, Heroism, Versatile Weapon, Tongues
Lv 3 spells(5/day): Invisibility Sphere, Haste, Daylight, Dispel Magic, Displacement, Fear, See invisibility
Yes, Seamus.
I also recommend you put your FCB into spells known instead of hp.

@Leonard: I am happy to do some crafting for others, but bear in mind whilst it will only cost you 14000gp in crafting costs, that represent 28 days of effort on Howard's part... given that I was planning to spend at least 40 days crafting for myself (more, as we acquire more loot), even with 90 days of travel, that will leave next to no time for anyone else to have items crafted.
@GM Mort: As per Cities of Golarion, Cassomir has a 'Base Value' of 8000gp (so items up to that value have a 75% chance of being available).
@Seamus: Really, we are going to need to wait until we have access to Plane Shift and/or (Greater) Teleport, before we go on a real spending spree (and even then, we will still be capped at items of about 29000gp or less)

GM Mort |

Oops lol. Sorry guys! I blame the module writers for not giving me the right stuff!
I like the idea of Howard being turned into one of these!

GM Mort |

Howard - what level spellcasting do they have in Cassomir according to cities of Golarion?

![]() |

Hmmm....
Disappointingly, 4th level Divine (Druid 7) and 3rd level Arcane (Bard 9) are the highest-level NPCs listed...
It makes no sense that the second largest city in Taldor should be lower-level in terms of spellcasting than a backwards country town in Ustalav, but that is how it is (at least we can buy higher-level items)!

GM Mort |

Damn. That isn’t a piece of good news. I’ll see as the time draws closer if GM intervention is required r.e spellcasting. I could always insert one of my PFS characters as a Cameo :P

GM Mort |

I mean the darker interpretation of this book is that there is NO divine caster that can cast 5th level spells – because the penanggalen in Iris hill ate up the town cleric(Priestess Trillis) and turned her into a manananggal.
Create spawn:
When a penanggalen slays a female humanoid via blood drain, and if that slain humanoid had at least 10 Hit Dice in life, that slain humanoid rises as a manananggal at the next sunset. This manananggal is under the command of the penanggalen who created it, and remains enslaved until that penanggalen’s destruction. A penanggalen may have enslaved spawn totalling no more than twice its own Hit Dice; any spawn it creates that would exceed this limit become free-willed undead.
I decided not to go down that route, feeling it’d be too cruel.

GM Mort |

Also Seamus. To holy would cost you 16k.
You would be paying to increase your +1 bow to a +3.
A +3 bow costs 18k, so you'd pay the difference between a +1 bow at 2k so total spending 16k.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Kindof unimpressive that the writers require that seventh level adventurers want to spend 90 days on a boat instead of paying for teleportation. I guess teleportation just isn't a thing that happens in Ustlav.
I'm not sure exactly how much crafting other people want, but I assume it's quite a bit. The list in my previous post is basically my birthday wish list (my birthday is in three days), and I don't expect to get everything on it. Once everyone knows everything they want we can discuss this in more detail.
It's true that slumber hex is probably better than glitterdust, especially considering the scaling DC. I still don't think it's enough better to want to take it as my feat.
Also, thanks for pointing out the pendant of the blood scarab overlaps with amulet of natural armor. Would you allow me to add the effects for a 50% increase in cost? The 50% cost increase seems somehow more RAW friendly, I'm not sure why. It's ultimately up to you.
Found a +5 bonus to escape artist. Between this and the knee high stagger proof boots giving a random CMD bonus to some stuff, I'm beginning to think that women's clothing is just generally good for CMD. With craft wondrous the corset is real cheap, but I'm guessing I'm not going to have access to crafting for this particular item anyway, since it's lower priority. Hmm...slick seems overcosted. I'll look into this more when I have a bit more time, but basically I have about 2k to make me suck less at grappling. The red sphere is nice, but I wish it could be scaled up to a higher bonus.
I still like empowered magic as the feat. It actually combos real well with maximize spell from the tome of harms for a 1/day +63 to damage. I'm inclined to think I won't normally use them at the same time, though.

GM Mort |

The corset only works 10 rounds/day, slick is all the time. Besides, the corset uses the body slot, which can be used for other things.
No to adding additional abilities to existing items. It's considered custom magic items.
As I said if I allowed teleport, you just jump to Book 4 straight. And you'd miss out on an entire book. Do you really want that?

GM Mort |

Let's put it this way. The highest level of spellcasting services you get is 5th - but under notable NPCs in the town block, the second highest "caster" other then priestess Trillis is this:
Healer Sentilar Ruoy (CN male halfling alchemist 7)
So where are you going to get that teleport?

Leonard Giles Neithan |

I don't want to teleport, but I don't like that I can't. Like...uh...I get that it would break the game, but I don't really like the way it makes me feel. It's essentially like an invisible wall in a videogame or an asspull at the end of a novel, although I think this is a case where it's not really a big deal.
As for where the teleport would come from, if we have to travel thirty days to get to a big city with teleport, that's still cutting out sixty days of travel time. Which I think Leonard would say is worth it, which is why it breaks the fantasy a little bit. It's fine though, not a big deal at all. I think Leonard hates sailing, though, he wants to be the most powerful person in the room, and that's hard when you're on someone else's boat. And Seasick.
I'm not really sure if the corset is something I'll get, we'll have to see how much crafting is available and hammer out the details. It is worse than slick, but not if I can afford it.

Seamus Passeri |
sorry my posting rate dropped, family visiting from out of town and internet at work being awful is the cause. I will finish Seamus purchasing and spell list and update him.
The good news is he wouldn't be any help doing research....
OH, and Seamus loves the idea of being on a nice boat far away from dead stuff where he can entertain the masses. It's like a Cruise ship....

Vincent Arazeiros |

Guys finished leveling but let me know how much crafting market value wise is available after Howard and the others are figured. Though no help with my weapon, really wanted to get inspired on my rapier. I have two enhancements in mind, that and dueling, but will have to wait.
Super busy still on vacation but will update sheet with level 7 asap

GM Mort |

Do remember at level 7 you get a feat. I'm not stopping you from picking up crafting feats, and you know there's going to be quite a bit of downtime in the future(on your boat trip).

GM Mort |

There isn't much to do in town except get restoration for Seamus, Claude and Vincent(1 pt Dex drain) and see if Leonard manages to throw off whatever is affecting him. Move to boat trip?

GM Mort |

Also, once past beginning of Book 4, story wise it's hard to insert a new character - so if you do die after that part, I expect you to raise your character, instead of rerolling.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

If everyone posts all their gear selections here, we can hash out the best way to use Howard's crafting.
Someone could also take another crafting feat...I don't want to, because that's not the sort of person Leonard is, but uh...someone else could always do the work for me?
*Offers candy*

Vincent Arazeiros |

magic dust: 1d100 ⇒ 95
advice: I had planned to use my rapier but would everyone prefer if I stick to longspear? It's pretty hard to enchant two weapons and I already got rapier to +1 lol

GM Mort |

Honestly - Leonard you probably will be able to throw it off. It's only if you are unlucky and you fail a few more fort saves and your con starts dropping too low, then you'll have to worry. But there's always see a doctorcleric in Thrushmoor!
I had a look at the nearest big city...
Caliphas
LN Large City
Corruption +4; Crime -3; Economy +4; Law +6; Lore +4; Society +1
Qualities notorious, prosperous, rumormongering citizens, strategic location, superstitious
Danger 20
DEMOGRAPHICS
Government Overlord
Population 15,640 (14,950 humans, 350 dwarves, 220 elves, 120 other)
Notable NPCs
Prince Aduard Ordranti III(LN male human aristocrat 3/ fighter 8)
Countess Carmilla Caliphvaso (LE female human aristocrat 4/ rogue 11)
Diaudin (LN male human rogue 10)
Luvick Siervage (LE male vampire aristocrat 2/ fighter 15)
MARKETPLACE
Base Value 13,600 gp; Purchase Limit 100,000; Spellcasting 5th Minor Items 4d4; Medium Items 3d4; Major Items 2d4.
And again, I have no idea where the teleport is going to come from, since there aren't any casters in the notable NPCs list...

I think Robert is a Doritos person, and I don’t think Vincent is into candy.
Now candy would work on me…but yeah I like sweet stuff.

Seamus Passeri |
I think Robert is a Doritos person, and I don’t think Vincent is into candy.

HEck, Robert is a 'eat anything' person, that's how he got to 300 lbs...
So how soon till we are in Caliphas? Or will we need to detour to get there?

![]() |

Well... Most guys aren't sweet tooths... At least my BF and brother aren't....
I get laughed at for my love of sweet things, you know.

GM Mort |

It's about 120 miles to Caliphas which would be 5 days on foot, assuming proper roads.
Obviously it'd be a huge sidetrip that isn't covered by the mod.
It's 4 days till your ship to Cassomir arrives.

Seamus Passeri |
I don't crave sweets all the time, like cake or pie. Nor do I need chocolate regularly. But I do eat my fill of cookies and candy. Oh, don't forget pastries. My daughter baked cinnamon scones with icing for breakfast over Christmas. I must have eaten a couple a day most of the week. One with breakfast and one for bedtime snack.
@ Leonard, I tend to focus on the 'big six' then keep whatever the mod offers that will be helpful. So I'm not usually concerned with 'crafting.'
About the biggest use any of my characters have gotten from a 'crafted item' was a ceramic jug with birds on it.

![]() |

*sneaks into Seamus's house to eat up the cinnamon scones*
I love chocolate! Ice cream! And anything sweet!
You Archers need your feats anyway.

Seamus Passeri |
my favorite sweets is cookies. Of course I eat anything, especially if I'm stressing.
Ok, I think Seamus is ready for level seven, except for a new language. He picked up a language this level and I have no idea what to take, that's why I asked about languages in 'dreamland.'
Maybe he should pick up Kelish. Any opinions?

Vincent Arazeiros |

Mort you don't allow custom items like gloves of dex do you? Asking because it looks like in pathfinder all physical stats are on belts now so if you want more than one stat like str and dex, you need to buy physical perfection belt?

GM Mort |

Not really. The issue with me is I don't question the rules, I just take what's there.

GM Mort |

One of the reasons why I allowed Howard's custom syringe was because there are no rules giving potions to a conscious ally(Claude) and I was already allowing him to do it. So there wasn't really that much difference anyway.
Rule uncertainly is something that should be cleared up whenever possible.
Also I approve of characters trying to help each other as opposed to single handedly blowing everything up themselves.
And also if a rule concerns doing nice things for NPCs that has nothing to do with gameplay, chances are I will allow it too.
Like Greater Hats of Disguise wearable by Winterwolves only.

![]() |

BTW I ate all my Oreos in my last trip to Sentosa. Because I refused to pay the more expensive prices for food and drinks there - so I brought my office rations Oreos and went Om Nom Nom Nom Nom there.

![]() |

@Vincent: If you plan to stick with a longspear, may I suggest picking up the feat Phalanx Fighter? It will enable you to attack from the second rank more effectively.
@Leonard: In previous APs with Mort, people with crafting feats mostly crafted only for themselves, occasionally doing small 'gifts' for others. If the crafting feat doesn't fit your build (due to feat constraints), that's fine, but I wouldn't just say 'it isn't the sort of person Leonard is', because if we were basing it purely on a PC's predilections, Howard probably wouldn't spend his time crafting for other people...

GM Mort |

You mean phalanx formation, Howard?
Even if he doesn’t the -4 to hit won’t kill him, he generally has the highest to-hit of the entire party.

GM Mort |

At any time of Leonard's under the weatherishness, feel free to take him to the doctor cleric. Then we'll just ignore the rest of the saves.

![]() |

Also, does anyone want the Cracked Dusty Rose Prism Ioun Stone? +1 Initiative is not to be sneezed at :-)

![]() |

Having pan seared sea bass, salad and barley risotto with sh*take mushrooms. Interesting how even something as simple as pan seared sea bass can be when done well. Who needs fancy sauces?
Also, I have 2 daiquiris with me. Already drank up one. Wonder if I should get magrittas...
Wait a minute. Who the heck censors sh*take mushrooms?!

![]() |

Morts alcohol experiments:
Magaritas > daiquiri
Lychee Magaritas are good. Better then mango.
Still a pain in the arse to get out of Sentosa, so I'm paddy pawing my way out as the train is full, slightly tipsy. This is going to be a long night.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Howard, if it would be out of character for you to craft for me, don't craft for me. If you're not really meant to be crafting all my items, don't.
Let's see now, assuming I get zero crafting I'm not sure what to buy...that belt of perfection suddenly looks very expensive. I'll have to do some more thinking.
Edit: might be a long night, but it'll get shorter if you stop to drink more!
