Was this text from the adventure, or did you write this (and the preceding text)? It has an old-fashioned sort of poetic quality to it.

Either way, I like it. It makes this scene feel a little bit epic, as it should.

Woo! We win!

Thanks!

I think you did everything very well. The pacing was surprisingly good for such a long fight. Though if we had rolled a little better, we might have shortened things up a bit. (Have I mentioned that I hate the forum dice roller :-))

One thing to keep in mind a little bit, is though the maps were great, some of the movement, of the PC's particularly in light of the spoilered actions weren't ideal. If we were all sitting at a table things would be clear, and we could move in order. Maybe showing a little more flexibility as far as hints about better movement strategies, etc would help us in making our actions correlate more smoothly. Again, nothing wrong, just trying to improve things a bit, since we're separated by time and distance.

Good point.

I've seen fights where first post basically has initiative, and that didn't feel right.

I've seen fights where everyone has to wait for the next person in the order to post, and that felt long...

So I tried the "mask your post, but you can read those of the characters who acted prior". I understand it makes it clumsy as you post "blind". Perhaps we can refine this, where you can wait for people ahead of you to actually post. Then there is the delay and ready, but I know that's not what you meant. Perhaps one could repost if he sees a post of someone acting before him that would change his action. A few of you use a lot of "if" statements.

If anyone has suggestions, I'd like to start from there.

That is one of the most difficult fights to manage in any of the APs I have played in. There are so many encounters which are almost guaranteed to happen at the same time. I think you did good. Each groups fight with the Stag Lord plays out differently. Some handle him within a round or two, but I like that we had a bit of a chase to a climatic ending ontop of the hideout. My positioning was poor and not getting any sleep to prepare spells hindered Tuck's range abilities, so I don't mind that he basically played guard duty except for the couple bandits with Akiros.

Just a heads up I'm going to be very busy this week. I've got a new job, and writing for the final round of the RPGSuperstar.

I thought the fight went pretty well considering all of the layers it had going. For me, the challenging part was being in the order after the main villian. I did end up having to do a lot of conditional statements based on what I thought the Stag Lord might try to do. I'm not sure I can offer a remedy for that.

Thanks, I tried to stretch the group and line them up, but the summoning got me flanked, then I thought about climbing up which stretched the group further. It made the fight more dangerous for the front liners. Akiros rolled bad; he was a real threat!

Congratulations on the new job! Good luck again for the final round. My thoughts are with you.

Lots of stuff going on atm for you! No worries for KM, I'll cover your rolls if needed. Pop in when you can.

I considered that. Towards the end, I thought of running the fight by cutting my post right after the SL, so you would start the next round instead of finishing the previous.

It's early afternoon at the Stag Lord fort. Proceed as you wish. We are out of initiative order. Discussions and rolls to search the people and the place.

OK. I complained about Janku's rolls with the dice roller, and decided to average them out during the course of the combat. He averaged a 10.15, so about average. Of course that is slanted by a 17 and an 18 for his climb rolls, so take those two out and in rolls that really mattered he averaged a 8.8, still not as bad as I thought, but compared to DF's rolls pretty bad. :-)

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

I liked how it all went. I, personally, am not a fan of spoilers but having said that, I understand why we did it that way. Outside of that, and of course my crappy rolling, I thought it was great.

Totally freaking awesome encounter. Every round I'm thinking to myself, "Well if he only does X amount of damage, I won't be dead. At least not intially." Wasn't even thinking, "Well maybe he will miss." That truly shocked me when that happened. He missed me all of ONE time.

Good fun stuff, DW!

@Scranford: What/Who is DF? Just curious.

Whoops! I meant DW

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Now I'm even more curious. I'm gonna have to go back and look at his rolls.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

You can throw that Mwk longbow I gave to the bandits back in the loot pile.

Was thinking the Stag Lord's bow to go to Kalsgrim.

I wouldn't mind taking Devon's bow. Although, I'd rather have one that is masterwork.

So, if Kalsgrim takes the SL bow, I could take the one he's using? Unless, of course, it has some type of history behind it then I'll just take Dovan's. The Human Bane arrow would fit Kriger pretty good too.

I wouldn't mind taking that silver holy symbol of Erastil either. (Those stinking bandits should never have had such an item anyway!)

Looking at the others I would guess the mwk chain shirt(Tuck), the +1 leather(Servayn), the +1 longsword(Kalsgrim), the +1 rapier(Tuck), +1 chainmail(Janku)?

That's my take on those items, anyway.

I could take a CSW and a CMW potion as well as maybe one of the protection items, but as far as the latter goes, I'm more willing to give it to those who need it most.(Lukasz, Servayn, Janku. The ones with the least AC or the healer.)

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Not a one of us owns a healer's kit. Dang.

Another question, did we fight the crazy healer guy(I think that's what he was) that was locked up? Or is he still locked up, somewhere?

Under my profile, you will find in "Retrieved items", a proposal for distribution. Let me know if you're ok with it, other items you'd like to get, and items you're putting back in the loot.

I could have sworn I saw a MW large Steel Shield somewhere around here?

And we can add Janku's MW Chainmail to the sell loot.

There is one indeed!

The problem is you need a free hand to cast, so I wasn't sure a heavy shield would work. I'll add Janku's MW Chainmail.

Kal would like the Stag Lord's bow. He'll let Krig take his old bow, explaining the history behind it as he hands it over. There are a lot of good magic items in this haul, but if Kal gets the bow he won't take anything else other than coins.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

@Scranford: You mentioned that Amulet of NA for Janku. It's no big deal to me if you want it. Heck, as far as Kriger is concerned, you saved his life about 100 times during that battle. He sure wouldn't have a problem with a little something extra keeping the healer alive.

Let me know.

@Warforged: I'm also gonna take 20 arrows. And if it's cool, I would like to take 1 of those cure mod wound potions.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Hey Janku, since your War domain doesn't really fit your new goddess have you thought about asking DW if you could change it? Maybe the Protection domain with the Defense subdomain to fit your new meatshield motif.

Gee thanks. How did I miss doing that? I think I had intended on waiting till I leveled up again, but how about it DW?

Very little of the armor/weapons available are particularly exciting to Servayn, so I'm thinking of seeing if I can commission a MW chain shirt or, ideally, mithral chain shirt, when we get back to the fort.

I had considered taking Janku's cast off MW chainmail, but I realized at the last moment that Summoners can't wear medium armor. :)

A wand of grease or something might be useful to consider as well, since his crossbow isn't exactly setting the world on fire when he runs out of spells for the day. :)

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Wands of grease have a pitifully low DC though :( A wand of magic fang may be more useful.

Giving the whole group a +2 deflection bonus once a day on the first round of a fight is pretty sweet. Especially since it would be forever until that becomes redundant.

Good point. I had forgotten that it would drop to 11. Even against low-reflex-save critters, that's pretty dire.

There's not a lot of sex in that 1st level Summoner spell list.

I'm actually kinda leery of getting that heal eidolon spell, because I like using the Summon Monster SLAs, and if Ember doesn't keep dying regularly, I'll never get to use them. :)

I'm good with it. One of the Subdomains gives Shield... Not too bad.

Also, deflection is often used for spell AC bonuses. Let's make sure everyone computes it right.

No worries. As long as the door doesn't swing shut on us, I don't care who opened the trapdoor!

The whoever may have come off a bit b**+#ier than I intended... Darn internet and it's lack of tone conveyance.

Whatever. <Set makes 'talk to the hand gesture'>

Nahhh. Just got me to wondering what happened, is all.

<Cause the face ain't listening!> ;)

(Sadly, I had to google that cause I couldn't remember how it went. That still doesn't sound like what I heard back in the day but that's what popped up. Man it just amazes me how you can google, well, everything.)

I'd have totally re-written this last scene to make the old man a helpless babbling nobody (possibly thrown down here as a snack...), and the chained lady a werewolf with barbarian levels, just waiting to be freed from the soot-darkened silver chains preventing her from transforming and attacking the party.

'Cause, yanno, I'm evil. :)

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

You know, for a minute there, I did not see that it was 'Evil Mastermind'. I saw the pic, never looked at the name and I'm thinking to myself, "Why in the heck is OM telling us this?"

But then I'm like, "Oh well, Kriger doesn't know any different, he's still gonna set her free, and then get munched on for it."

But then I finally noticed the avatar name and I'm like, "Who the heck is Evil Mastermind?"

That's a good one, dude! :)

(I'm telling you, MY perception check is costing me all over the place! It's a good thing I'M not an adventurer! :P)

Or is there actually straw or something soft for him to land on?

Well, Lukasz told Kalsgrim to be careful about enchantments. Also, he's on packed earth. It's nothing like straw, but neither is it like concrete.

Wait...is there actually a girl in that cellar? Did I somehow read that section a dozen times and run that fight three times without noticing a prisoner??

There are three rooms in this place, correct?

And we've only checked two? Or did Lukasz actually check the other two?

(At least, I think I read earlier, there were 3 rooms with no doors.)

Sorry, there are, in all, three rooms. One in which you're all standing with Nugrah, and two more, one you and Janku went in, the other where Lukasz went in.

(AC 18, hp 15 of 77) Summoner 9

So it's been awhile since Kalsgrim posted a list of stuff we gotta do.

Here's what I remember;
1) kill alla mites
2) deal with the kobolds and / or their purple shaman (one way or another)
3) find Svetlana's ring
4) kill that verdamt will-o-wisp
4.5) research *how* to kill that verdamt will-o-wisp!
5) explore the remaining hexes that we've not yet explored

Optional;
6) travel to Restov and buy the kind of stuff that Oleg wouldn't have for sale, like a mithril shirt or whatever. Servayn is 3rd level. For WBL, he's got 420 gp. No potions. No scrolls. No armor or weapons beyond what he showed up to the party with. It's a neat sort of 'iron man competition' thing, to see how long one can function on starting character gear, but I'm over it. :)

Edit: While looking at the Players Guide and our Profiles to see who in our group is best suited for whichever leadership roles, I was surprised to note that Kalsgrim and Servayn have identical stats. :)

14, 14, 14, 10, 10, 18. Freaky.

That truly is freakish. What are the odds?

Gratz on the new job!

And yeah, once we figure out that crazy old dude raped prisoner lady, and cut short any debate about what do with him when she attempts to gank him with her bare hands, this spoiler-y stuff should be done. :)

Do you still intend on playing Tuck, for the time being? He was kind of a emergency draft pick at the time, and I'm not sure how much the character is resonating with you.
