I 'killed' this groups paladin with a crit from one of the illusionary half-orcs. One should never charge orcs.

If that Legacy of Fire wasn't so far along, I might have thrown a character in for it. I've been in one that made it as far as the fight with the evil bad luck mites, and the other didn't even make it that far. (Crypt of the Everflame PbPs also seem to die fast. I've made it to the Crypt twice...)

I sometimes have trouble getting invested in games that have been running for more than an encounter or two, as the rest of the group tend to have a groove, and I end up feeling a bit left out.

I share your feelings, at the same time, I've been in games that died fast or never even got off the ground. So it seems like a lesser pain to actually play with an experience and dedicated group when you get a chance. It remains a challenge to get in their "groove" though.

BTW, I applied on that LoF. It was my first app, and I remember saying: "it was a bad idea to present a druid when Set also presented a druid... I was looking to fail!" I'm glad we're playing together!

That is pretty cool, I've rather enjoyed seeing people say they want to play it. Or like Sara, actually asking if they can switch to it.

We'll see if my name thingy changes to (RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16) ;)

Now now Grasshopper, clean your bowl first...

And there it is! Congratulations! I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for this round.

I guess now is not the best time to discuss whether you wish to resume your DM function for KM... ;P

CONGRATULATIONS! Your last app was awesome! I also can't wait to read your next one.

Best regards,

Dreaming Warforged (RPG Superstar 2011 Top 'Oh look! Is that a bird?')

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Heck yeah! Congrats Scipion! Of course, as much fanfare as you had I would have been REALLY shocked if you wouldn't have made it.

And I think it's pretty cool your archetype has already been submitted as a pc in a pbp.

Just totally cool.

Haha, yeah. That's what DW linked to up above :)

I hope I can live up to this hype for the later rounds when it get's down to brass tacks. There really wasn't much talk about my flask and that bummed me out a little.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Yeah, that's what I get for clicking on it after I've already posted. Could have saved myself from a lot of extra typing. :p

Totally cool. Keep rocking!

Is Beaky dead? Just wondering seeing how there's no line through him and in Round 3 Ember did enough to "send it to the floor".
Rather be safe than sorry.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Maybe he's just unconPET OWLBEAR

Beaky's quite dead. My mistake.

Some dude

Much safer for us if he's dead. Someone would want to tame it.

Or possibly make a bear-baiting cage-fight entertainment out of it, sending in other things to fight to the death, and making a killing on the ensuing gambling. :)

Oh, we'd let him compete! The betting would be through the roof!

Wait, that's not the problem?

Well, I suppose Erastil wouldn't be offended as long as the meat didn't go to waste at the end of everything.

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll sell your meat... Paladin a la Kalsgrim.

Well, he's starting to look like meat in this fight. He's already used two out of five lay on hands, and he's still down quite a few points!

Don't worry. Janku has yet to act this round, and he has a full compliment.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

BOOM! Janku the healing machine! That was totally freaking awesome!

By the way Janku, it's probably something I just didn't see, but after looking at your character I noticed you only have two feats. Being human and 3rd level you should have three.

I usually miss something, though, so if that's the case then completely ignore everything I've said.

Except for the first part.
(Cuz that still rocks!)

Yeah. I just checked and he took Heavy Armor proficiency. He was built with Beta rules when clerics got this for free, but when he was a cleric of Gorum, it was necessary...and with his DEX, probably not a bad idea to stay with that.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Ah, I see. Cool.

'and with his DEX, probably not a bad idea to stay with that.'

Lol! No joke. With a 10 dex, it's like, bring on the biggest and the baddest armor you got.

@ Dreaming: Not sure on how unconsciousness works outside of HP damage, so it is up to you how to handle it, but I don't know if it is like a magical slumber where the unaffected bandit can just jostle the affected one awake. If he can, then just want to reiterate that B2 is still blinded and stunned for the remainder of the spell.

Scranford and Markofbane:

I just applied to the Arcadia campaign replacement as Noche'Wa.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Dreaming Warforged:

It's not looking good for Kriger. Was wondering if I could use my last hero point for something. Was thinking of going with the heroic effort bit. Thinking about declaring the natural 20. Now would that override my attack? If so, do I roll for crit confirm?

More importantly, is it way to late at this point? Do I need to see if I survive to the next round and then use it?

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

And the villains are up!

Javell:

Sorry, the cases you mention should be spent prior to the roll, so as to increase your chances. There are still in play for your next round, or for Delay Doom if it comes to that.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Servayn actually posted already. He's actually several posts up.(The first round 9 post actually.)

We're just waiting for Lukasz.

Good luck Scipion!

If you're selected Tuesday, we should discuss a pause on the game so you can work in peace.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Thankfully, they keep giving us a heads-up on rules. This round would have been brutal to get on Tuesday. None of my mock-locations worked with any of the villains.

I'm still a little shocked by how quick I ate up 1,500 words.

Wordcount is brutal for these things. My biggest problem (other than a complete lack of skill at mapmaking) is trimming the fat from my overly wordy posting style.

TOP 8!!!

Awesome job Scipion!

Shall we stop for a week or so? Let us know, we'll adjust.

Sincerest congratulations and good luck for the next round.

Scranford and Markofbane:

Is there a reason why the selection for Nazard's game is taking so long? It seems to me like the game is anything but dead... I understand if you can't really say,

Never afraid of putting my foot in mouth and being horribly wrong about something, I'm saying that Superstar is going to go to Cody, Sean or Trevor, barring one of the three of them doing something tragic in the next round.

And since I hedged my bets by picking three possible winners, out of eight, I have a (scribble, scribble, math is hard!) almost 50% chance of being right!

So are we stopping for a bit or DMPCing Tuck? I would like to hear everyone on this.

Some of the games I'm in have a 24 hour rule. If the player doesn't post for 24 hours when it is their turn in a combat, the DM acts for them to keep things moving. You could always put something like that into effect if you like. Or, if everyone wants, we could take a hiatus until Superstar is over, because we know our guy is going to the final round!

Man, I've had votes left over each round, but this time, I needed all four votes. There's some beautiful stuff this round.

I'm fine to keep going. Also, thanks for the votes of confidence!

Just a heads up. I will be gone from Friday to Sunday, nowhere near a computer. I will also be off Tuesday and probably Wednesday.

At the risk of sounding overly repetitive, Congratulations Cody! Final Four! Whoo hoo!

I'm back with 20/20 or better, after 24 hours!!!

Scipion, congrats, congrats, congrats and I bow in front of your well deserved success! Let us know if you want time off, we'll take care of Tuck (Javell might be available to play him during the fight... ;-p

Best of luck and inspiration for the final round!

I also would like to call dibs, in the name of this group, to play in your PbP of your own published module if it ever comes to this. Best of luck again!

You have the SL in the ropes, but he won't go down without a fight! Keep the pressure!

I don't mind re-rolling ones when it comes to hit-points or healing. It really feels like your gipped when that happens.

This might be a bad time to bring this up, or way to late, or whatever, but seeing how Janku keeps getting robbed with all these ones on healing, this discussion came to my mind.

Are we gonna go with this or no, DW?

Edit: Yeah Scipion, I can run some Tuck if you need me too. As well as I've handled Kriger, what could possibly go wrong? ;)

Well, that's really Scipion's decision. I'm the temp.

Wow! That was a long fight! Congrats, you did very well!

I will be posting the gains and xp shortly.

Please let me know your thoughts on the rhythm of the fight and the DMing in general. I don't do this too often and am very much looking for feedback. It's nice to know what you do right and what you can improve.

EDIT: 1358 xp each so far, just for the fight. Working on the rest...

"You feel thin, but happy."

Was this text from the adventure, or did you write this (and the preceding text)? It has an old-fashioned sort of poetic quality to it.

Either way, I like it. It makes this scene feel a little bit epic, as it should.

Woo! We win!

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

I think you did everything very well. The pacing was surprisingly good for such a long fight. Though if we had rolled a little better, we might have shortened things up a bit. (Have I mentioned that I hate the forum dice roller :-))

One thing to keep in mind a little bit, is though the maps were great, some of the movement, of the PC's particularly in light of the spoilered actions weren't ideal. If we were all sitting at a table things would be clear, and we could move in order. Maybe showing a little more flexibility as far as hints about better movement strategies, etc would help us in making our actions correlate more smoothly. Again, nothing wrong, just trying to improve things a bit, since we're separated by time and distance.
