GM Peachbottom's Curse of the Crimson Throne (Inactive)

Game Master Peachbottom

Chapter Six: Crown of Fangs
Part Three: Legacy of Blood

Charisma Rerolls: A PC can spend a Harrow Point to reroll a Charisma-based check. She must abide by the new result (although if she has additional Harrow Points remaining, she can use them to attempt additional rerolls).

Destiny Shall Not Be Denied: A PC can spend a Harrow Point as an immediate action to force the GM to reroll a d20 roll. She must abide by the new result (although if she has additional Harrow Points remaining, she can use them to force additional rerolls).

Psychic Wrath: A PC with levels in a class that grants bonus spells based on her Charisma score can spend a Harrow Point to increase the power of a spell from that class’s spell list as she casts it. She increases the spell’s DC by 2 and gains a +4 bonus on caster level checks to overcome spell resistance and a +2 bonus on attack rolls for that spell.

Roll Card: Gain a +2 bonus on all Charisma-based checks. In addition, he treats his caster level as if it were 1 higher when casting spells gained from a class that grants bonus spells based on his Charisma score.

I think I still need character sheets for Rorek55, Hurley, Flyn, and Korak.

You've still got a tough choice among the other two arcane applicants.

No hard feelings I hope, happy gaming!

Yeah, maybe not. I'm having trouble putting the character down.

I've got most of the sheet complete for Sebastian Merrin. I wanted to get your thoughts on ability score distribution. I dropped Wisdom a bit and put some extra points in Strength and Constitution, but I did so with the intention of mechanically enforcing Sebastian's fatal flaw(s). Is this acceptable, or would you prefer more average scores across the board?

Sebastian Merrin, human swashbuckler and future legend

Background:
Sebastian Merrin is an impulsive, fiery youth who could do with more good sense and less good swordsmanship. The son of a blacksmith, he has a nearly single-minded focus on swords and swordplay, which he studies at Orisini’s fencing academy. He has idolized the local vigilante Blackjack since his youth, and what little free time he has between fencing and helping his father he spends tracking down wrong-doers and avenging the good people of Korvosa.

He doesn’t realize it, but Sebastian tends to be a little too trusting, especially of people who appear weak or in need. Once he’s given his trust, he rarely reconsiders, and this tendency has gotten him into trouble on more than once occasion. Of late, one of his long-time friends has succumbed to shiver, and Sebastian has taken it upon himself to see Gaedren Lamm, the man responsible, pay for his crimes.

Concept:
I recognize that this is a horror-themed game. I intend to play Sebastian as Wrong Genre-Savvy for drama, rather than comedy. In a nutshell, he thinks he's a character in a swashbuckler novel à la Dumas, Sabatini, or the like, but his recklessness and poor character judgment will carry more serious consequences than they would in that genre.

Sebastian's stats look fine. The 8 in Wisdom is fine. Having a flaw sometimes fuels good roleplay. Everything looks good here so far.

Alright, I am sorry to say that I must change classes again, in a local pathfinder game my swash died after many long years of adventuring, and I decided to replace him with a Bloodrager because I really wanted to turn into a dragon. Anyways I would rather not be playing a character that I already have a very similar high level variant of so here I am. I want to play a class that focuses on summoning, but everyone insists that the master summoner is a broken character, so if you are opposed, I will instead build a sorcerer that builds heavily on summoning. If there are any other ideas on how to build a character based on summoning, please I am open to suggestions. Thank you -Flyn

Augment and Superior Summons look to be very useful

Consider cleric for the standard action summons that you can get with Sacred Summons. I'm playing a Cleric (Herald Caller) who is going to be going Tattooed Mystic in a Skull & Shackles game. The Herald Caller (from the Paizo Player Companion Monster Summoning Handbook) is a really nice archetype.

Well I know the four players that I'd like to invite to play this campaign with me. I know it's only Wednesday but I really like these four characters so I don't see any point in dragging out applications any further since I've made my decision already. There were only one or two people who hadn't finalized submissions anyway.

I welcome the following players to join me:
Sebastian Merrin: CG M Human Swashbuckler
Nadya Dimineata: CG F Samsaran Witch
Ayako: NG F Human Oracle
Col Avertin: NG M Human Investigator

I think this will make a well-rounded party and has some non-traditional classes. I really enjoyed your backstories and think they'll lead to many great opportunities to tie into the campaign as it progresses.

I thank everyone else for applying. Everyone had good characters and I wish I didn't have to say no to anyone but I do. Good luck and I know you'll find the right campaign soon.

I'll be opening up the discussion thread for the four players I chose. You can post in there anything you might want to discuss as everyone finalizes their character sheets. Or if you just want to talk, that's cool too.

The gameplay thread will be open at a later point.

Congrats everyone and good luck for others.

...Okay I feel really cheated right now. I will take this as a lesson to not close recruitment until I said I would. Still congratulations.

I agree, however the classes selected will create a cool and unique party, congratulations and good luck.

Korak wrote:

If I was still on the fence, I'd have kept it going, but I knew these were the choices I was going to make. Why have people spend time on a character when I already know I'm going to pick someone else? I felt this was fairest.

Because you don't know how the other characters will end up, having a short list is one thing, hell telling people you have a pretty good idea who you're gonna pick is one thing, but then telling the rest nah I changed my mind these guys are in you're out too bad so sad feels like a really big f@$@ you.

I understand how you see it, I've done it. But being on this end of it, I won't be doing it again.

Congrats to everyone who has been selected. I'll surely follow your game! I'm sorry for not being chosen, I was really excited about this campaign, that would be my first PbP: next time I'll put more efforts to be selected!

Congrats to all that made it!

GM Peachbottom I respect your gut decision! Sometimes you just know!

have fun all grats to those that made it in.

Thanks! Really excited!

Curse of the Crimson Throne Chapter 2 Game needs one more player.

Start at level 4
• 15 point buy
• 2 traits.
• Max hp at 1st level and average hp each level after that
• You can have up to 6,000 gp worth of wealth. No more than 3,000 gp can be spent on a single item
• Source material can be selected from the Core Rulebook, Advanced Class Guide, Advanced Players Guide, Advanced Race Guide, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Equipment, and Ultimate Magic. Other sources will be allowed on a case-by-case basic but I prefer everyone not have any abilities that I not familiar with or don’t have the book to reference.

We currently have a Swashbuckler, an Oracle, and a Paladin.
Our witch has gone missing.

We could use some sort of arcane character although other characters will still be considered. I'm not setting up a time frame, once I get a few submissions or I see a character I really like, I'll choose one. I'm hoping selection won't take longer than a week so if you are interested, let me know as soon as possible.

Feel free to look at previous posts to get an idea of where the game currently is.

Thanks.

Sounds awesome! I'd love to get into a CotCT game! Right now I'm considering a Voice of the Wild Bard, not sure about race yet, but probably gonna go something core. Seems like you have a good handle on melee between your paladin and swashbuckler, so is probably stick to casting and maybe some ranged combat. I'll get something up in the next couple days.

We've been facing humans and now undead.

This seems perfect for the arcane trickster I've wanted to run for a long time seeing as you are lacking both a rogue and a caster. I'll only take a single level of rogue and use accomplished sneak attacker to qualify.

I have a couple questions about the mature themes of this game. I do love that part:
1) How is such a thing even possible with the rules of the board? It seems. To me like it's hard to go far with descriptions. Do you do stuff off-site?
2) What other mature themes than violence?

Some more questions, because my curious trickster loves questions:

3) Can I use fractional bonuses to calculate bab and saves?
4) In PFS wizards exchange scribe scroll for spell focus, would you allow the same?
5) Prestige classes are already punished by the favored class system, I don't suppose you'll allow gaining spells from leveling even in arcane trickster?
6) Can we take a drawback in order to get a 3rd trait?

Ayako does tend to get all tendriled when upset. Spider legs from mouth, eyes weeping black goo. Simple stuff.

Ugh, I just realized the source restriction remove the possibility of Accomplished Sneak Attacker. I don't suppose you would allow that anyway so I can easier make a character to fit the party's needs (working as both a caster and somewhat of a skillmonkey)? That's the only thing I really need, the rest are just nice to have.

Oyzar, I agree an arcane trickster would be a good fit. Also, Accomplished Sneak Attacker is fine. I'm not ruling out any sources, and I'm actually pretty lenient. I just prefer to be familiar with the sources everyone uses and the feat you want is simple enough so it is not a problem.

1) As far as the mature theme goes, I admit I had envisioned it even darker in my head, but I think it is going pretty well so far. I don't do anything off site. If anything is off the paizo board, like the maps, I link them either on the gameplay header or campaign page. I try to be very descriptive both inside and outside of combat, and will take it as far as you want if you roleplay it out. I'm always open to suggestions on how I can improve the game if anyone has them too.

2) Well so far, in chapter one the group has encountered a man using enslaved orphans for child labor; a group of rogue guards butchering people and selling their meat to the poor; a drug lord whose den and body were literally crawling with hundreds of spiders and whose form of entertainment was having two men tie one hand together and stab each other until someone loses; and a bodysnatching necromancer who'd take bodies dead or alive and craft them into golems made of mismatched parts. In chapter two, they are currently dealing with a fast acting plague and the political intrigue of a queen trying to usurp more power than she should have.

3) I am not using fractional bonuses.

4) I'll allow you to switch scribe scroll for spell focus. I think scribe scroll is very useful, but I'll give you that choice.

5) Yes, you can still gain the two spells per level when you level up arcane trickster. (I actually thought you already did, but I just looked at the FAQ.)

6) I think it would be better to stick with just two traits, since you are already are gaining a 2nd trait of your choice which doesn't have to be a campaign trait, since it doesn't make sense for you to have a campaign trait at this point. If you really need it for some reason, you might be able to convince me, but my preference would be no.

Mjolbeard89, a bard is not a bad idea either.

If anyone needs advise or information on Korvosa or the surrounding areas for their backstory, I think I'm fairly well versed, and can help you.

Thanks for allowing the feat and the extra spells will also help out quite a bit. I might still go with Scribe Scroll per your suggestion. Would you allow me using it before the game to craft scrolls at half price?

I'm as always having a tough time debating between different options for the character. Your preference on the matter might make it easier to decide. For race I'm thinking either an elf or a tiefling. Which do you think would fit better and do you have any suggestions for origins? Perhaps an elf from the enclave in South Shore or a tiefling who grew up on the streets?

I've made quite a few dark backgrounds in my time. This seems like another great opportunity for it. Too bad I won't be able to incorporate the campaign trait as I feel the way it ties the group together is really cool. Perhaps you have a suggestion for some adversary I could weave into my background instead of Gaedren Lamm?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I've got a human elemental sorcerer percolating in my head. She would be more of a blaster, and have water as her element. I'll try to get you the crunch and background by the end of the day today.

Are you planning to switch to the updated AP when the book comes out?

Ozyar:
Yes you can use scribe scroll for half price scrolls pregame.

Elf or tielfling would be fine. I don't think elves are that prominent in Korvosa but Korvosa is a Cheliaxan colony so a tiefling could be native to Korvosa or any part of Cheliax.

You can still use Gaedren Lamn if you want to but he has already been dealt with.

Other adversaries still outstanding could include the necromancer Rolth, anyone from House Arkona, or perhaps even the Queen or the Queen's physician, Doctor Davaulus.

CariMac:
Yes I plan on using the updated AP once it comes out. I'm really excited about it.

I have a question. Is what socioeconomic group does the current party fit into? I can go with a poor full blood Varisian or I can work with a good acceptable Chelish citizen.

Ayako has a cot at a local temple and that is about it.

Lucien and Sebastian are more on the noble side.

A Varisian or a Cheliaxian could both work.

Background:
Iolana Markus is a mix of Varisian and Chelaxian heritages. She inherited the slightness of her mother, and the coloring of her father. When people see her from a distance they assume she's a child. She's 26.

To honor her mother's heritage she has a couple of Varisian tattoos in swirling patterns on her arms. She allows her dark black hair to swing free Iolana doesn't wear any armor. That doesn't mean she's helpless. More than one street thug has learned that lesson the hard way. She carries a knapsack everywhere she goes. Her clothing is the color of mourning.

Three years ago her husband was murdered, and his wedding ring stolen. It was a family heirloom. She's been searching for who has it. Her husband's family never accepted her, and feel it's now their family heirloom. She gave it to Manius at their wedding which transferred ownership to the Altumas family.

She does her best to follow Korvosa's laws. Except when they get in the way of what's right.

The plague is a real concern. Her mother's extended family live in the slums of the city, and it needs to be stopped.

I got an idea for my character. I'll make her a tiefling. Hopefully you'll like her. I hope using the unchained version for her rogue side is ok.

I would like to submit an Elven Wizard Universalist. He has breadth of experience making him a huge knowledge and profession resource. I also took feats to give him Social Skills and Perception. He is/was an instructor at the Anomanexus College, which unlike

Unchained rogue is fine

Scarab Sages

You are just looking for one correct?

Yes just one player right now

Oyzar's character here. I'm pretty much done with the crunch, except for perhaps getting a few more scrolls or such. I still need to finish the background, but I got quite a bit of that done already as well.

I noticed that there are a couple things that I would like to have that are not in your list of allowed sources. If you won't allow them, it's no big deal, I'll just have to find something else. Though it might affect the fluff a bit as well.

I wish improved feint didn't require combat expertise. I don't really have any other use for that feat, my bab is low enough already... I'm not really planning to go further into the feat tree either.

Oyzar: All the stuff you listed in the spoiler are fine.

Everyone's characters look good. I'll definitely be able to make a decision soon.

If anyone else wants to submit a character, don't wait to long.

Selecting players is the hardest part of PbP i think. I hate having to tell people I didn't pick them.

PICK EVERYONE!

Oh, this is interesting. I know it isn't arcane, but would you allow the Sable Company Marine Ranger archetype? Seems incredibly thematic for this AP, I'm surprised no one's using it already. If it isn't too late.

I'd allow Sable Company Marine but we already have a Swashbuckler and a Paladin in the party.
