What was the point of that encounter? Besides a place to put gold.

From the tactics for the 6-7 subtier: Kemendu uses his sandals of quick reaction to make a full attack with his bow in the surprise round, targeting a spellcaster with his hushing arrow first.
As far as the encounter in general, the difficulty of it actually depends on how quickly you've accomplished the various tasks set out in the scenario and how subtle you've been about it. Failing checks to canvass the guild house, find Ungala or the eyewitness, or to deal with Erwyn slow you down, causing a ruckus at the guild house slows you down, etc. For a certain number of delays earned, Kemendu has more time to prepare his ambush. If you do very poorly, he has time to set traps around the map (which can serve to anchor the boat and keep it from moving if you take the river route), charm a critter to help with the fight, and have an Aspis wizard cast some additional buffs on him. Since you guys did very well, all he had time to do was buff up according to his 'Before Combat' header which included some stuff like a Water Walk scroll, Fickle Winds on himself and Netto the Constrictor, and Protection from Energy (Fire) (or an element the party is known to use if they get enough delays).

I'll get the game reported shortly and will work on chronicles later this evening, so be sure to roll Day Jobs, make Faction Journal inquiries, etc.!
As far as Tome goes, I think we're doing Bones at the request of Effie/Malachi/Sleeping Sword. The specific combo I've GMed before was:

I'm hoping at least one of the several NPC's we dealt with here falls into the following category?
Recruit a named NPC scholar, knowledgeable spellcaster, or similar figure to the Dark Archive. Recruitment requires a successful Diplomacy or Knowledge (arcana) check with a DC equal to 15 + your character level.
Knowledge: Arcana + Inspiration: 1d20 + 12 + 1d6 ⇒ (18) + 12 + (2) = 32

Craft Calligraphy : 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Sitting in the dusty Archive researching death and the afterlife, Doc takes copious notes in a leather-bound notebook. However, he also has another notebook that he writes in - his calligraphy wherein he mixes the written scripts of the many and sundry languages in his head into artful designs. He's not particularly creative with the words, often borrowing existing poetry or using phrases that he's heard from colleagues and friends.
But it's those phrases that remind him of his adventuring friends - and one in particular. Using one of Miyakushi's famous Minkai love poems as a starting point, he replaces various words throughout the text with their equivalents in the nearly dozen languages and scripts that he knows, creating a unique piece of art on a vellum scroll.
When he's done, he sets it aside with the satisfaction of an artist having completed what is likely his greatest piece. A piece that may very well never find its intended audience.....

Sometimes I'm not sure who is more Chaotic, the PC or the Player. ;)
Occultist is a great 1-level class. Legacy Weapon from Transmutation lasts a minute, and since we all have magic weapons, you can use a standard action to give Bane (Whatever) to someone. And then do it again the next round to someone else. +2 to attack and +2d6+2 damage!
Oh, one minor detail. There's a class feature called "Mental Focus." I don't think Hep can use that. ;)

I think I am going insane. And not just from Hep's class progression.
Maria has alchemical allocation. I played it (this last session) and could have SWORN that there was at 150g per level sort of cost limit on what elixir/potion it could be used on.
So at level 4 (Investigator) I could only buy and use potions and elixirs that cost 600g or less. Thus the elixir of vision (250g) and slipstream potion (300g).
Next level I can get elixirs of heroism (750g) and such.
BUT I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ABOUT THAT NOW?!? What the heck did I see or am missing?

I'll see if I can locate the campaign ruling.
EDIT: I am out of date somehow! Here's the final PF1e ruling.
[Advanced Players Guide] Page 201—In organized play, alchemical allocation can be used to avoid consumption of potions and elixirs with a price of up to 150 gp × the caster level of the alchemical allocation extract (to a maximum of 1,000 gp).

Given that folks are leveling up and Lady L needs a couple days/nights for work, I'll hold off starting us on the Tome of Righteous Repose until Lady L hands me the reins.
I did notice something though. With Hep and Soddy just leveling to 6, we'll have to add in a scenario to the plan. There's Tome and Midnight Mauler left before we hit a string of 7-11's, but those two PCs at least won't be 7's by then. Plus I'm planning to give my Tome GM Chronicle to Lady Vanessa, which means Holan-Ji (or Doc O'Mayga) would still need 1 more XP to reach 7th level by then also.
No need to do anything right away, just thought I'd point it out for character and GM rotation planning.

Question regarding an FJC goal.
As a part of defeating an undead creature, use a consumable magic item worth at least 100 gp per character level.
Would using a potion that helped Maria hurt the undead creature during a fight where it was destroyed apply? Like, she sees an undead and slams a potion of heroism or oil of flaming arrow (750g cost each) and then helps kill it?
Other than level 3 potions and oils, I'm not finding a ton of one use magical consumables in the 600g or higher range that would directly harm an undead.

That probably violates at least the spirit of the FJC rules quite a bit. But a good thought outside the box.
I found this on the FJC description.
Err on the side of leniency when ruling whether or not a PC fulfilled a faction objective; for example, defeating an undead creature does not necessarily mean striking the killing blow, and someone who actively contributes to the combat almost certainly qualifies.
So from that, as long as I use up a consumable worth more than 100g per my level and contribute to the fight, I am going to count that goal as gtg.
The level three potions and oils will work until I hit level 8, so hopefully I can face two undead enemies in separate sessions in that time.

Ours was good here. DH had to work during the day Christmas Eve and I worked at night on Christmas Day so each of us sort of did our own thing and went to the family gatherings that our individual schedules would allow for - which is nothing unusual, #healthcareworkerlife and all that. Thankfully neither of our families live more than an hour & 1/2 away by car so at least there isn't a huge amount of driving to be done.
This year did mark a change as it was the first year where my mother opted to just (mostly) give everyone money and not whip up anything beyond a few finger foods - which was perfectly fine and understandable because it was easier for her. She's always loved Christmas and decorating and buying (and receiving, haha) gifts, so the change did, admittedly, make me a little sad for the fact that it's a reminder that she (and my dad) are getting older and slowing down.
DH & I are going to look at hosting something next year, that way all they have to do is bring themselves. We didn't in previous years because our apartment was too small but we've been in our house now for just over four years and DH has developed an interest in cooking so it's time we stepped up. And my gift to her this year was a basic coffee maker for my house, because she's commented more than once on our lack of one - never mind the fact that neither DH or I drink coffee so why would we have a coffee maker? But now I can make coffee for her when she comes over and she won't have to bring her big thermos of coffee from home. She seemed happy :)
We also had some sickness run through our house in December but in our case it was RSV. Didn't ruin the holidays but it did make a good portion of the month annoying and uncomfortable -_-

I don't celebrate either one (nor really any holidays at all). I bid schedules to work them, letting a junior pilot have the chance of getting it when they might not have otherwise.
Xmas was a 3-day layover in Nanjing China. Not a particularly interesting, nor English-accessible city, and the Dangerous air-quality index levels didn't help.
The following week, I departed Alaska about 2 hours before midnight on New Years Eve and landed back in China in the wee hours of the 2nd, so 1 Jan never happened for me.
But I'm enjoying my 3 days off in Japan on my current trip and looking forward to 3 days in Hong Kong next week. Such is the life of a Nomad.
