Pacing can be difficult. I find that as long as you post once a day or two, that tends to give everyone a chance to post while keeping the story moving along at a pretty good clip. As a matter of fact, the way I've been able to tell that a game's lost steam and the player's interest is when I go more than a couple of days with one or no posts. Even on weekends, there's at least a few people posting.

Season of Ghosts

^That's a good point. Of course it can help too if the players make some sort of mention, either IC or OOC, if they're ready to move on from a scene. I try to do this as a player since sometimes it can be hard to tell if the lack of posts is due to a genuine lack of interest or because most of the group is basically done and waiting on the GM to move things along :)

Question for the GM:

I know that in in-person PFS games, players can show various items that they have purchased for a free re-roll, once per scenario, per the Promotional Perks policy.

Is there a way to use such an item in a PbP games?

(I have a Rise of the Runelords messenger bag that I bought at PaizoCon a few weeks ago...)

It’s pretty much the honor system, but you should be prepared to show the GM visual proof should they ask for it.

Season of Ghosts

^Yes, what Zithembe said. I will generally take a player's word for it that they own the item but if anyone ever feels honor-bound to show some sort of visual proof (such as a picture) then that's fine as well.

Season of Ghosts

Just a note to say that I'm still enjoying the chatter! I'll probably leave you guys to tell your stories for a bit longer and then look to move things forward oh, say....tomorrow afternoon/evening. Sound good? :)

I'm working the early night shift tonight and tomorrow night, so if the scene comes:

Bot Instructions:

Use my jade wayfinder to cast guidance on the primary Survival Check maker for +1 to the check.
Use my sad Wisdom check of +0 plus my Wayfinder +2 for a total of +2 to Aid Another on the Survival Check.

For Ladile's Eyes Only:

If we get past that scene and on to the combat scene, the goat is a combat/active companion.

Season of Ghosts

^Noted and thanks for the instructions!

By the way, if it's not being too nosy, what sort of job has you working night shifts? I only ask because sometimes my job (lab tech at a small hospital) has me do the same, as several of you already know :)

Honestly I was thinking about having Ylva grab Tupp and run for it, but looks like we're committed now.

'Cause of all the talk about denominations OOC:

I grew up Baptist. We used to joke that Methodist were dry-clean only since their baptisms were just sprinkling some water over their head. When we baptize people, they go for a dip. :)

Season of Ghosts

OOC Stuff:

Normally faith (and politics) are among the small number of topics I largely won't engage in online but since Ylva brought it up and he and I are from the same general neck of the woods, I have to agree re: baptism - if you're a Southern Baptist, you gon get dunked :)

In other news, I hope all of my fellow US folks have a wonderful 4th of July tomorrow and that those across the pond (Tupp and Hepsubia, I think) have a fantastic Wednesday! My family never has been one to do a lot of celebrating (and a few of them, like my husband & brother, have to work tomorrow) for holidays other than Thanksgiving and Christmas so I'll likely be around like usual since I've got the day off. Post if you feel like it/are able to, and I'll respond to what I can, but no pressure :)

Funny Story Re: OOC Stuff:

So, I was saved and got baptized when I was in the third grade. It was fall and the church I went to kept the sanctuary cool. The water wasn't hot, so when I got out, my teeth were chattering, and my mom told me my lips were blue. Thankfully, I had a change of clothes waiting so I didn't spend too long in the sopping wet gown. I was kinda jealous that the pastor got to wear hip waders.

As far as not talking about it, I, ironically, don't like causing arguments, but I can be very argumentative. I just try to be a Godly person and help people when they need someone to give them an ear or just someone to talk to.

Politics is a whole 'nuther bag and my opinions basically boil down to: "It doesn't matter what side of the aisle they are on, most of them are crooks." Sadly, the shenanigans that have gone in my home state of Alabama have done nothing but reinforce that opinion. I only trust the mayor of where I live because I know him and he's related to me by marriage.

Anyway, just for reference, out of the past three or four governors, two of them are serving jail time for stuff they did in office. One of those was in a massive sex and ethics scandal that also implicated several other people in his administration. In short, it was a dumpster fire. Oh, and then we have the US senate race to replace Sessions where the candidates were a democrat who I vehemently disagreed with on a number of issues and a republican that was involved in sneaking in the Ten Commandments into the state courthouse when he was chief justice, then getting suspended during his second term as chief justice for violating a Supreme Court order (Although I don't agree with that order on moral grounds, I also don't believe it is the government's right to define marriage anyway), and then was accused of sexual assault by a few women on the eve of the senatorial elections. I don't know many people who would have voted for Roy Moore because of all of the issues that he's been involved in.

And all of that isn't even getting into the corruption, the mess of a constitution, and the state of the education system. Needless to say, I don't much like discussin politics, and it doesn't help that I tend to lean left on a number of issues, especially net-neutrality and green energy. As I've said to others. I may be a conservative, but I'm the most left-leaning person in my family.

Yep, Happy Independence Day to everyone in the US. Happy Humpday to everyone else. :D

I don't know if I'll be able to post tomorrow, but if I'm not too zonked out after getting done with my work's party and the cleanup, then I'll try my best.

Happy Fourth of July everyone!

I work in IT at a university. A few years we were implementing a new student records module. The go-live date was 7/15, and we were getting down to the wire, but the July 4th holiday was on us, and most of us took the day off.

One of our external consultants was from the UK, and he volunteered to continue to work on the 4th. He said, in a deadpan manner, "I'll come in and do some actual work while you Yanks are whooping it up about throwing OUR tea into YOUR harbor, or some such nonsense. An apology would be nice."

My wife and I went to our local fireworks display last night. It was a lot of fun.

More on religion:
I'm an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA). I was elected to serve a three-year term on the Council of Elders, or "Session" as we call it. It's an ecclesiastical position that's more or less like being on the Board of Directors. I am also the chair of our church Buildings and Properties committee... which is kind of a big deal because the building is huge and was built in 1880, and we also own a public park next to the church.

On baptism: We also baptize by sprinkling water from a font. Our tradition is infant baptism, and we certainly do baptize older children and adults. We also recognize and honor baptism from any other Christian church.

As for politics... let's say that I am a vocal member of the Christian Left, and leave it at that.

Our church is hosting our town's annual Pride service next week.

Funny you should mention that. I've been working on a website that has a deliverable due on this week, and what do we have right on Wednesday? :P

It's all good. I've got most of the stuff in and just need to get some tweaks done and one more section of the site. Unless everything goes wrong, I should make it.

Season of Ghosts

Fun fact - the enemies you can encounter in this particular scene are randomized, as part of a way to try and make the scenario experience different on subsequent playthroughs. I won't list what the possible encounters are in case some of our newer folks end up playing this again some day but I will say that this is the first time I had the snake swarm come up as a GM (this is my second time running this scenario) or as a player (I think I've played this maybe 4 times across different characters).

The swarm of things named after the island are the worst. I'm sure they forgot to adjust them for low tier and used the same high tier stats. It's a damage sponge plus swarm traits plus the extras.

Season of Ghosts

The Organized Play team also expanded on this sort of thing with later, higher-tier evergreen scenarios such as From the Tome of Righteous Repose and Beyond the Halflight Path which (I'm told) feature different potential story arcs and encounters depending on how the GM wants to run them.

@Zithembe - I have yet to personally encounter or run those, too. I'll have to be mindful of that though since I hadn't looked at their stats super-closely.

Yikes! Well, Janira's response was basically meant to be the equivalent of saying, 'You participated! Good job' rather than actual belief he'd found something helpful.

Unless it’s not a normal Minotaur (which my knowledge check might reveal), I don’t think I have anything that’s going to do much to it... it’s HD are too high for daze, and hypnotism breaks if anyone does anything aggressive iirc... slumber hex would have the potential to be a game changer but I don’t get that until next level (and even then I think the Minotaur is probably 50/50 on making the save)

Slumber hex is a key component of 'speed Confirmations.' Two or three 1st level witches with Slumber and Ill Omen.

Speed games don't work in PbP, but it was a thing back when everyone was trying to lock in their tieflings and aasimars. I missed that era, but my local venue would occasionally run them to help GMs earn stars.

I was a little late to the party, but I was hoping someone would react to Theo's terrible joke at the campsite last night!

Speaking of jokes, any time I encounter a minotaur, I always think of an encounter in an AD&D game from many years ago...

The party was in a very rough bar in a very rough part of the City of Greyhawk. We were trying to find a minotaur who frequented this bar, and who had some information we needed. One of the PCs was a playing gnome illusionist/thief... and the player was very much playing the "Annoying Gnome" trope.

Anyway, we spot the minotaur in the bar, and we're about to approach him, when the gnome says, "Hey! Let me do the talking! I speak minotaur!" No one else in the party spoke minotaur, so we relucatntly let the gnome approach him.

The player then turns to the GM and says, "OK, I walk right up to the minotaur, I put my fingers up to the side of my head like this," the player points his index fingers toward the ceiling and presses his hands against the side of his head, "and I say, 'MOOOOOOO!!!'"

One of the most unique characters I ever made was a minotaur... wizard. As you'll notice, a few of those scenarios tick more than one box and I've also included all of the relevant parts of certain multi-scenario arcs just for completion's sake. It's still a work in progress but I do have a couple of questions/comments for some of you:

Zithembe - How many replays are you willing to spend? Shores of Heaven is one that I'll definitely do but if you have additional replays to burn and really want other scenarios on the list you gave me, please indicate which ones :)

Kiango - Two of the requested scenarios on Zithembe's list are ones that you have also played. My questions to you are: do you have any replays to burn and/or do you wish to burn any for either of the two scenarios? Or are there scenarios not on the above list that you'd be interested in replaying?

Hepsubia - Since I don't have you on the PFS Tracker I'm not sure what you've already played and what you haven't. When you get a chance, please either add yourself to the PFS Tracker or simply post here and let me know which of the scenarios in the spoiler you've played already.

Everyone - If you've not played a particular scenario on the above list but you have plans to - whether during PbP Gameday, as an individual game, at a live game, etc. - please let me know so I can adjust the list accordingly!

You'll also notice that there are plenty of higher-level options for this group but, a bit surprisingly, not as many 1-5s! While there are several 3-7s on the list, I might fill in a few other scenarios of my own choosing for most of the 1-5 journey; it'll depend on what/how many scenarios I eliminate from the list once I hear back from some of you :)

Silver Crusade

Male Human 'Wizard' 1 (hp 9/9 | AC 13; touch 12; FF 11; CMD 11 | Fort +3; Ref +2; Will +5 | Init +2 | Perception +3)

In the name of full disclosure...

I am very new to PFS play, and have never been a PFS GM.

That said, I own (and have read) quite a few PFS scenarios, several of which I've modified & run as non-PFS home games. (E.g. I wanted to run an adventure set in the Jeggare Museum in Korvosa for my Homebrew "Champions of Old Korvosa" campaign... And modified Mists of Mwangi accordingly.)

However, I don't think I've run any of the scenarios on your list.

Sovereign Court

Male Samsaran Halcyon Druid 1| HP: 12/12 | AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 11 | F+3 R+1 W+6 +2 vs death, negative energy, negative levels, stabilize | Init +3 | Perception +8, Low-Light |
Tracked Resources:
Spells 1st 2/2; Arcane Bond 1/1

I have two stars and the ability to recharge them both! I also have a boon that gives me two replays, so I am sitting on six and I'm willing to use them all. I save them specifically for PbP with the idea that I'd be using them on scenarios that I want to play with certain characters. This is precisely that, so schedule those in! :)
