Hey, welcome back! You've not missed *too much* as you can see :)
Re: Treacherous Waves - I'll get a proper campaign set up soon so that you guys can check in!

GM Ladile |

*bzzt, crackle*
Okay - for Gummy Bear, Blake's Tiger, and Escharid, you can find the campaign for Treacherous Waves here. Go ahead and check in and I'll have my other two set players check in when they can!
*zzt*
And we now return you to our regularly scheduled programming of TL;DR :)

Hi, folks.
Sorry for disappearing again. I was at an outdoor music festival Thu-Sun of last week. I was set to pick up again Monday, but routine medical exam turned up something potentially scary. I spent Monday at the hospital having tests run, and I've not been in much of a gaming mood as I wait for the results.
I hope to pick things up again soon, regardless.

I honestly have no idea re: the souls of raised corpses. Fortunately, Tupp knows even less about Golarion lore than I do, and any mistakes are completely in character. :)
No worries, was just raising awareness ;) I'm a big fan of necromancers and some of the flak they get on these boards is due to slight misconceptions so I talk about it when I can!

GM Ladile |

No worries Theo; I've just been botting you along as needed. Bummer about the health scare, though - I'll keep you in my prayers!
(At work; updates later this evening.)

That's perfectly understandable, Theodric. I hope all goes well with you!
No worries, was just raising awareness ;)
Now I want to make a charismatic necromancer who hands out leaflets to help raise awareness and debunk the myths of necromancy. Maybe a halfling Blood Arcanist with the undead bloodline? I could take the school understanding exploit for necromancy (the thought of taking control of a passing ghoul for a day is pretty interesting) and put some skill ranks into craft (calligraphy or posters.) I could go straight sorcerer of course, but I really like the looks of Arcanist exploits. :)

GM Ladile |

Apologies for the slightly sluggish posting this past week/end; work and doing some RL stuff has kept me busy and I've also felt a little more tired than usual so all of that has slowed me down a bit.
*edit* And I like the misunderstood necromancer idea, Tupp!

No worries GM Ladile! RL stuff and sleep always comes first. :)
As for my necromancer, I'm really looking forward to giving it a try! I've been doing some research and the only potentially bad thing about making skeletons and zombies is that the creature can no longer be resurrected. As such, I think that after handing out leaflets noting that nothing bad will happen to their soul, he might ask people if they'll like to donate their body to magic after their demise (even though commanding current undead will be his main focus) and issue donor cards. He'll actually be my first full caster (usually I see the shear number of spells to choose from and run away, not knowing what to do) and I'm eager to finally give one a go.

![]() |

I hope everything is alright, Theo, or at the very least manageable.
Just a heads up: I'll be attending GenCon this year, so I'm not sure how attentive I'll be from August 1 through August 5. I'm not GMing like crazy like I did last year, but it's still a busy time. :)

GM Ladile |

Thanks for the heads up, Zithembe! Considering both Theodric and Sylvak have been (understandably) busy as well, I may put us on break during that period of time.

![]() |

How much flexibility is there in society play for creative use of abilities? For example... normally there's no save involved with intimidation but it kind of makes sense (to me at least) that effects that would penalize saves against fear (or all saves) would make it easier to intimidate someone- so, could I use the evil eye hex to aid Hep's intimidate, or grant her a circumstance bonus or something?

![]() |

A short break may be very advantageous to me as well since my big move has officially begun. I may be able to post tomorrow evening, but after that I will be dark for an unknown period of time. Please feel free to bot me if needed. :)

GM Ladile |

@Sylvak - I'm not ignoring your question but I've been thinking over how I want to phrase my answer since it's actually a really good question, especially for the folks in the group that are pretty new to Society play such as yourself. Unfortunately I'm out of time before needing to head to work but I'll have an answer for you later today I hope :)
@Tupp - So noted and thanks for the heads up!

Now that Ladile has signaled that she will respond formally, I'll give you an informal answer. Informal because it's not my table and this definitely falls into the realm of table variation.
Creativity is encouraged but so is maintaining rather strict adherence to the rules as defined in the texts. E.g. using Profession (Butcher) to assist another on Intimidate by describing how so-and-so will be skinned and carved if they don't cooperate or using prestidigitation to enhance your diplomacy check. The former might be an Aid Another or circumstantial bonus. The latter would be a circumstantial bonus. It is up to the GM to decide the circumstantial bonus. It might be +2, +1, or even +0.
PFS GMs have to be careful, though, because once you open the door it can become a slippery slope. Using Craft or Profession checks as surrogates for other skills is easier to control than granting function beyond what magic or special abilities have defined.
For me, it's about how creative the player is being. Each time a player says they're going to use prestidigitation to enhance their diplomacy effort, I'll ask how. And then I'll judge how I think the individual NPC will respond to the effect. If they put no effort into it, then the circumstance bonus is going to be +0.
In keeping with the campaign's title... TL;DR: It depends.

Haha, I can't believe how I missed that trap! I guess Tupp's halfling luck really does work. :)
I haven't got time for a post today after all, but I just thought I'd mention how interested I am to read the answers to Sylvak's question. I'm still learning as a PFS GM and stuff like this helps a lot. :)

![]() |

Woo! That's good news!
Just curious, but is anyone else having issues posting new threads? I was planning on seeing if there was any interest in a Savage Worlds Supers game.

GM Ladile |

Welcome back, Theo! Glad things weren't as bad as they could have been.
Getting back to Sylvak's question...well, Zithembe actually largely said what I wanted to say and probably in a better way. He's right in that creativity is encouraged but we also have to try and run things 'as written' as best as we can which is why I'm going to say no in this particular case. The logic behind the idea is sound and were it a home game I might allow it but for here it's getting into the realm of using an ability in a way that it's not really written for - not to mention doing so would force a save on the part of the recipient. In this case it would probably work just as well to roll an Aid Another and flavor the action as you giving them the Evil Eye without literally giving them the Evil Eye...does that make sense?
And Ylva, I'm not sure. They did some website updates this evening so something probably got busted in the process; I'm sure they'll have things fixed up and patched up as quick as they can :)

![]() |

I’ve had trouble just posting in general for the last day or two, but it seems to be working smoothly now (so hopefully you can post your new thread Ylva).

Not to spam but I also wanted to share that Venture-Captain Hmm is running a contest/giveaway for some fun and not-easily-obtainable race boons. Go check it out if you're curious! :)

Good for her!!
She was the GM for my very first PFS game, ever, at this year's PaizoCon. (Night March of Kalkamedes). She was amazing, and was a great GM for an experienced PFRPG player who was a total noob to PFS.

GM Ladile |

Yes, she's awesome and Night March is one of my favorite scenarios so far out of the ones that I've played and/or ran! She doesn't GM quite as much these days since stepping up to VC position but I highly recommend her PbP games too if you ever get a chance to get in on one :)

GM Ladile |

Ylva, if you want I'll let you keep your previous acrobatics roll for your new turn this round - which would let you leap the stream like you wanted to do :)
In other news guys, I realize I never really specified earlier - which is my fault - but I do feel that I need to formally set a botting policy going forward. Generally I try to give players a period of 24 hours from the time of my post stating 'You're Up!' to post their actions before I bot them. I know that a couple of you tend to have a lot going on IRL and summer is usually busy for nearly everyone, but given how many players we have I don't want the game to slow down any more than necessary - especially during combat encounters. This isn't perfect, especially since you'll notice I occasionally miss a day of posting myself - like yesterday. Still, I hope this will work for everyone. I've been in a few games where the action often slows to a crawl while waiting on one or two players to post their actions and I would strongly prefer to avoid those situations here as much as possible.

![]() |

I'm cool with that. :)

![]() |

Same here.
On another note, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish all come from the Old Norse language. Speakers of one can kinda get the gist of what someone speaking one of the others is saying, much like the Romantic languages. The reason I bring this up is it looks like Icelandic is Giant and Danish is Skald. In theory, the Minotaur should get the idea that he's being insulted.

GM Ladile |

I'll try and work with that; to be honest I don't actually know a lot about real-world language trees as I think I swiped the majority of my language list from Sylvak's player and sprinkled in some other stuff of my own and from other GMs. I usually just try to go for what looks/sounds like it might work :)

GM Ladile |

And with the realization that my above post might've come off as flippant when that wasn't my intention, I do want to say thank you for the information about the languages - I learned something new :)

![]() |

It's alright. I like to pick up all sorts of little tidbits of knowledge. One of the best things I've ever read about modern English is that it's the result of Norman soldiers picking up Anglo-Saxon barmaids and is about as legitimate as any of the rest of the results.
Personally, I think it's more like a Germanic language that borrowed some Norse words and used them to beat up other languages for vocabulary. :D

![]() |

The English language is like your typical murder-hobo PC... It takes whatever it wants from whoever it wants, no concern about the rules, no real concern for its own well-being, all decked out in whatever wild mismatched gear happened to be the best it could get its hands on...

GM Ladile |

As my latest GM post shows (if you hadn't already guessed), I have absolutely no problem with occasionally breaking the 4th wall and/or being silly as a GM. Hopefully that isn't a deal breaker for anyone, even though I try not to do it too much :)

GM Ladile |

Just a note that I'm hitting the lake today so I'll largely be out of pocket (and unable to post) until sometime this evening :D

![]() |

Well that was an interesting couple of weeks... I am now in my new digs and once again have an internet connection. It'll still take a few days to get everything sorted properly, but I hope to start posting normally very soon.
Special thanks to GM Ladile for bitting Tupp. You're awesome!

Well, this does need to be a equal opportunity thing. Would you mind if Krosk Joins you?
In all seriousness. I think half the fun of that fight was the PC's reactions. :D

GM Ladile |

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're interested in joining a playtest game? I think the one that Pooka is in is currently full (we've had some people rotate in and out in rapid succession), BUT you (and anyone else interested in playtesting via PbP) might want to keep an eye on the Cottonseed Lodge where playtest games will be recruiting players! It's admittedly playtesting PFS-style but it's still playtesting :)
