So we come to the end of book 1 and prepare for book 2. There will be some RP stuff between now and then, and you all still need to sort out your discoveries and such.
Everyone will level to 4th at this point, as there shouldn't be any more combat for a bit. You will have time to purchase goods in what remains of Trunau after the attack, but make sure you check with me before making any purchases of anything other than standard fare.
As far as the hammer goes, its probably out of scope for someone to figure it out without the help of an identify spell, which would actually be available in town by speaking with a certain dwarven dealer of magical goods.

Johan takes a 4th level of Ranger.
His hit points go up by a total of 9 which includes both con and favored class bonuses.
Both fort and Reflex saves increase by 1 and his Dexterity increases by 1 to 19.
He gains his Hunter's Bond and calls a mighty warhorse who shall be called Thunder.
He picks up a single first level Ranger spell and chooses Gravity Bow.
He gains 8 skill points and spends them on:
+1 to Acrobatics for a skill of +10
+1 to Heal for a skill of +9/+11 with healer's kit
+1 to Perception for a skill of +9
+3 to Ride for a skill of +9
+1 to Stealth for a skill of +9
+1 to Survival for a skill of +9

Great work on this book guys. I thought everyone did a nice job playing out their characters both from an RP and crunch perspective. The AP was great (in my mind) and I really enjoyed the "who done it" start that flowed into an awesome running battle that ended with us all tapped out (I think Johan firing his last arrow into the final Dire Wolf exemplified the whole thing well). I look forward to continuing into the next adventure with you all.
Special thanks to the good Captain for GMing . Having run with you before I knew you'd have the GM side of things covered but I think you've also done a great job managing the PbP to keep things moving.
Onward to glory!

That loot sheet is totally empty when I pull it up. Does anyone have a total list of what we have found and who has what from it? I'd like to know how much coin we have to spend and what items we are keeping. Seems we had a large pile of potions.
Sasha the Mouse
Sasha levels up to a level 4 hunter. The changes are:
- +1 BAB
- +1 Fort
- +1 Ref
- +11 HP (5 for level, plus (new) Con bonus and favored class bonus)
- New second-level spells: ironskin and bull's strength
- Increased Con by 1, which made HP modifier +2
- Improved Empathic Link with companion
- Skills: +1 to Handle Animal, Know (nature), +1 Perception, +1 Ride, +1 Spellcraft, +1 Stealth; +2 Know (local)
Jaghal
That Loot sheet's creator and updater is Shawn Hayden, who might be one of the guys who is not here anymore, right? Its last update was on april 30th, so, if no one has been controlling the loot after that, I think we will need some catching up...
I can do it, but I'll need some guidelines as how are you doing treasure, and so forth...
Gizsmith Glitterbyte
I've been track loot since I joined. Link is above my sweet mustache. It is up to date until the giant fight. I'll add the new stuff once I get a chance.
Johan Fletcher

Excellent. I had forgotten you had a list separate from the link at the top of the page. That link is blank.
Do we track items already claimed by party members? Do those items claimed count against each person's claim to gold? I have no issue with any reasonable system but have forgotten what we had agreed to.
Thanks for keeping up with all this Giz.

Loot questions:
General question: Are we going to hand out items based on need? And if so are we going to track the value of who gets what? The system I like the best (seems to be a good balance between being fair and not hurting the party by selling things we might need) is to "sell" everything and divide that gold value evenly, but then before the items are actually sold let party members have first shot at items at their sell price. Thoughts? With that its likely a good idea to designate a few items as party treasure that no one owns (like the wands of curing, etc).
Would anyone care if Johan swaps out his MW longsword for the MW greataxe? Since he does not use a shield a two handed melee weapon seems a better choice.
I'd like to carry a wand of Cure Light - the one with the fewest charges. Johan can use the wand and seems a good choice as a backup healer as he has a decent AC and 40 hp. With him in the back he will usually one of the last to fall should something go wrong and would like a way to revive our main healer should he go down. Thoughts?
If no one else wants to claim the belt of tumbling Johan would like to use it for now. He would gladly return it to the party when he later gets a dex boosting belt.
Jaghal
I find that way to divide loot pretty fair. You can consider everything sold, and the member who wants the items can acquires it with his share of the loot for the sale price. In the parties I control loot I use a sheet that does that, and it keeps everyone even regarding treasure.
Anyway, do you have a CLW wand???
Gizsmith Glitterbyte
I'm actually not a huge fan of just splitting the loot evenly. Having 4 people with 1000gp all saving up for a stat boosting item is less efficient than just pooling the coin and getting one person an item.
While less realistic, I prefer a group bank style loot pool system. Basically everyone owns everything. If you want something, just take it. If you don't need it anymore it goes back, if nobody wants it, it gets sold. Cash can be split evenly, or just left in a pool for people to draw on as needed.
Individual wealth values are going to fluctuate naturally as the campaign progresses, I think that artificially trying to flatten the wealth distribution just lowers the party's combat effectiveness. For example, Agrimmosh is an artifact and is probably worth more than all the rest of our loot combined. Using the above rules, no one could afford it and we would have to sell it.
@Jaghal: We currently have 2 wands of CLW one with 10 charges, the other with 24.
Corentin the Younger
I'm pretty ambivalent as far as the method used for loot as long as it's clear and everyone is ok with it. My preference is always to see things that can be used being used (it seems more realistic from an in-game perspective and selling things just costs us have their value from a meta-perspective).
If we do go with some form of distribution system that divides between members I'm a proponent of having an extra member for group items/funds.

There is a hybrid between what you propose and what I proposed Giz. My son's group actually uses it. It goes like this. Just like I proposed, we sell everything on paper and people who want items we have found can buy them with part of their share of the gold, even going negative if need be. But then instead of dividing out the gold after selling everything the lowest value person (gold share wise as tracked by the loot list) can use the gold to buy say a 4K stat item or a +2 upgrade to armor or a +1 weapon, etc. That item value is added to his GP total and the next lowest person can buy an item, and so on until there is no gold left, or not enough for what you want. Passing is fine too, if you are saving for a more expensive item. The on only catch is you need to set some threshold based on gold on hand or party level or something so that the low person at level 4 does not spend too much on some great item. Maybe set it at 4K for now. This is not complicated in practice and works well, avoiding the issue you refer to.
On, and officially artifacts are priceless. :) We can likely set some value to it based on its current abilities. Thinking here that some items in APs increase in power as characters level.
Gizsmith Glitterbyte
*Shrug* Ultimately, I can live with any method of loot distribution as long as it doesn't sacrifice party effectiveness for the sake of 'fairness' and somebody other than me does the accounting.

There will be an unforeseen delay in my moves. My computer went Tango-Uniform today and I lost everything. I will need a little time to get back on my feet. Stay posted and I'll update as soon as I can.
GM Captain Trips
Don't worry Szacha, see below :)
Posting this to all of my games. Starting this weekend I will be incommunicado until August 3rd with GenCon preparations and attendance. While I may do sporadic updates to some of my games during this time the expectation should be that I will be completely out of the loop. I will make it a point to finish up any ongoing combat before that time and I encourage you all to RP among yourselves in my absence. I will likely be reading all my threads each morning before heading off to the convention and will be following posts and trying to reply when possible.
If any of you are going to the convention as well, shoot me a PM and we will try to link up at some point, if only just to meet and say hello! :)

You will need to deduct the cost of scrolls of Identify from the party funds to discover the magics contained within the last two items from the lair.
Uskroth’s Armor
Hero Chieftain Uskroth wore a suit of armor that blessed him with enlarged size and great strength. This battered, well-used suit of +1 half-plate automatically resizes itself to match the size of its wearer. Once per day on command, the armor can bestow upon its wearer the effects of righteous might for 5 rounds. The wearer’s alignment determines the DR gained from this ability. A good wearer gains DR 5/evil, an evil wearer gains DR 5/good, and a wearer who is neither good nor evil chooses which DR to gain the first time she activates this ability—once chosen, it cannot be changed.
Value: 11,500gp
Agrimmosh - Major Artifact
Agrimmosh appears to be a simple stone blacksmith’s hammer engraved with Minderhal’s holy symbol. It functions as a +2 impact warhammer that automatically resizes itself to match the size of its wielder. Once per day as a full-round action, the wielder of Agrimmosh can use the hammer to cast heightened enlarge person (Fortitude DC 23 negates). This effect lasts for 20 minutes. Whenever the wielder of Agrimmosh confirms a critical hit against a creature of the humanoid type, the target creature must succeed at a DC 23 Fortitude save or shrink by one size category, as by heightened reduce person. This effect lasts for 20 minutes.
It is obvious there are other magics stored within the hammer, but they currently remain dormant...
Jaghal
Whoa, nice!!
Of course, it would be quite stupid to infiltrate an Orc base taking the items they are trying to obtain, but we're gonna do it anyway, won't we?
Btw, no paying for restoration on my watch!
Corentin the Younger
Nice post Jaghal and I appreciate the Restoration.
As far as the items go you're right, nothing like doing the bad guys work for them :)
I agree that the hammer is to useful to leave behind but as Johan mentioned we can leave the rock in town. Perhaps with a council member or Kurst or just hide it somewhere. At this point no one knows we have either (granted the hammer is easy enough to see but the rock is in a bag somewhere and we haven't discussed it.).
As far as the two major items go, is there someone else who would like to use the hammer? Szacha would probably be a good fit for the armor (large size + reach weapon). Sasha you're our other front line fighter and either will resize so feel free to chime in.
Jaghal
The only scenario I see me using the hammer is to hide it. No one is gonna think the hammer with the small gnome is the one of legend, as much as I can think of. Anyway, I'm probably not gonna use it. The armor does not work for me, since I use a full plate already.
Johan Fletcher

Anyone planning to get a Handy Haversack? Or maybe some NPC has one in town. That would be the best place for that stone.
Szacha, are skalds proficient with heavy armor?
Johan does not need either item.
Sasha the Mouse
Sasha could both use and carry the hammer, but she's really more comfortable with her longsword. She does not need or want the armor.
Corentin the Younger
Nice Szacha :)
So shall we have Corentin take the armor and Szacha take the hammer?
Did we identify what the other magical items were that were found in the cave?
Johan Fletcher
|
I think that would be me now that we lost our rogue.
Stealth +9, Survival +9, Perception +9
Sasha would be a good likely but I might be a little more survivable if I get surprised. Of course we would be great together.
Corentin the Younger
Probably Sasha or Johan. Corentin is a Sir Clanky so he's happy to take point but only when we don't care if they know we're coming.
Jaghal mentioned he's already in full plate so I think he was passing on the armor. Additionally both should probably be on our frontliners to help counteract the reach advantage giants have on us.

I have updated/added to the prices and sell values on the loot list and added a few comments. Szacha, Johan too could use that belt of tumbling at least until he no longer threatens with his bow shots. I had already mentioned my desire for that earlier so I added my name to it as well. We can always roll off for it. :)
We need to get stuff sold and gear handed out to move forward.
Are we agreed to sell everything on paper and let players buy back what they want at the sell value? I think that is the most fair system. One caveat is that you can claim a item even if you could yet afford it. It also might make sense to set aside a party share to cover healing items and the like.
Szacha the Fiddler

You're absolutely right. However, you're absolutely right! By all means grab it (and leave me the belt of giant strength we'll find someday...)
Jaghal

Indeed.

Ok for me.
I see two CMW potions in the list, and I believe one of those I used last combat, isn't that right?
I would like to have that CLW Wand (24) with me too, in case we need it.
Sasha the Mouse
Going to GenCon next week. I will be out of contact from Tuesday, July 28 until Wednesday, Aug 5. Please bot me as necessary during this time.
Johan Fletcher

So I think the big thing that still needs doing before we move forward is a division of the loot. To do that we need an agreement to how the division will take place. Is everyone ok with the idea that we "sell" everything on paper and PCs "buy" the items they want to claim a the sell price using the money from their share? Obviously PCs will end up going in the hole some at first, but that is fine. I think we value the hammer not as an artifact but as a weapon that has its current powers.
I can take a cut a totaling the loot and coming up with shares if that is agreeable.
Also, I am headed for Gen Con in the morning and will be mostly absent from the boards until Monday.
