Level 1-10 1d6,
Level 11-20 2d6,
Level 21-?? 3d6. and

Every time they did something like this— which she was realizing was more often than some ever did in their lives– her heart took up a beat that made her think that it could be heard from paces away. The spells in her head shifted like the eddies of water in a stream, or rills of a lake, always shifting. She tried to step softly, making believe that she was barely even there. Part of her mind was contemplating possibilities, looking ahead beyond the next few seconds, choosing and discarding possibilities, to make sure that their endeavor did not end without them being derailed by the unexpected.

Her fingers were crossed, though. If anyone asked, she would just claim that she was holding a spell ready.

I was considering sneaking to some point 'south' of the horses(if that's possible. The map cuts off underneath them, so idk what's there, lol) and tossing a thunderstone to spook them.

Shadow, if I can do that, can I take 10 on my stealth, since I'm taking my time? I lack ranks so kinda wanna do what I can to be as stealthily as can be.

The group heads far south of the quarry road at Erix's behest to sneak around to where the horses are located resetting the attack vector of the group. Caelan will take 10 as well. I'll say the group takes their time and moves about 100' south, after all, you do have time! Note that they are aware that someone is out there and so are more actively aware.

tDA ONLY:
Perception 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5 - DC 22

Despite the diligence of the guards, the party is able to reposition itself on the other side of the Quarry.

Remember due to the scale that the group is not right next to the horses, you are all still 100' away, up the hill. Due to repositioning make new Perception checks. Anyone who wishes to approach the horses, make a Stealth check once more to get down the steep Quarry walls without making noise by dislodging rocks and debris underfoot.

Erix is so skilled (who knew!) at sneaking that he practically blends into the night. His path takes him to the area behind the horses, Xetovia and Meridian end up in that same area as well.

"BOOM!"

The Thunderstick explodes sending the horses stampeding!

Xetovia:
In the middle of the Ruins (by the larger buildings), you see another set of guards on active duty as there are a few guttering torches there. Once you are down below and the Thunderstone goes off, you cannot be sure if those guards will remain at their stations or investigate, a risk the group will have to take.

Shouts of anger can be heard i the distance as the horses give the guards at the front something better to do than come this way. Of course, they'll come this way eventually but not yet...

However, as Caelan and Gauntlet enter the quarry, a Skeleton left among the horses walks towards them, rusted blade in hand.

As Ama is still up top, I have Pink-Eye up top as well anchoring the rope. They are 100' away from what is about to be melee. Caelan and Gauntlet are in the quarry. Erix, Meridian, and Xetovia are about 25' away from the melee within the quarry. Xetovia and Caelan recognize the Skeleton as Karrnathi, hardier than its generic breed of undead.

The problem was that the Skeleton would have engaged in Melee before the stone was thrown as it heard Pink-Eye's feet shuffling (his Stealth check was a 6). I prefer the chaos of the scene unfolding this way anyway! This gives Pink-Eye and Ama a better view of how the guards will react from this vantage point anyhow. I should have described that better but I am always finding myself pressed for time when posting so I sometimes make the choice to rush a post then not to post at all.

Grimly recognizing that Skeleton as being a more hardier version of your bog-standard skeleton, a Karrnathi Skeleton, Xetovia notes that she is still too far away to combat it immediately. They're both out of reach from where I am! I'll need something with a bit of reach...

Ama was not liking the possibilities inherent in this action if they swung even the slightest bit out of their favor— of which she had no reassurance that they even were in their favor– but a sense of camraderie motivated her support. '—and greed', she admitted to herself with slight chagrin. Still, she had a tentative plan, which was to support the others as best she could with her magic.

Of course, that meant being close enough to affect the undead with the spell she knew that wore at the integrity of the magic that animated them, eroding it away. She had a bit of precision prepared, and other than that, a blanket effect if absolutely necessary. She was not sure it was going to be enough, but it was something. Luck was not something that she wanted to have to rely on.

Left unsaid by the Thranish Vampire Hunter was the undeniable fact that, as the Last War drew on, the Karrnathi necromancers eventually found use for other types of massive area-of-effect spells to use in conjunction with their undead; spells involving cold or poisonous gasses, as a gruesome type of example.

Pink-Eye you get an AOO as one moved next to a square you threaten. Xetovia, that is fine.

tBA ONLY:

Karrnathi Attacks vs Pink - Eye -- 1d20 ⇒ 20 - 1d20 ⇒ 17 - Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4.
Karrnathi Attacks vs Gauntlet -- 1d20 ⇒ 1 - 1d20 ⇒ 5.
EC Fighter 1 vs Pink-Eye - 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
EC Fighter 2 vs Gauntlet - 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15
EC Fighter 3 vs Xetovia - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 - Damage 1d6 ⇒ 5

Do Caelan, Ama, Erix, and Meridian wish to aid their allies or continue to the set of buildings from which the torch light emanates?
