Taryn is tall and fit, and handsome. His elven heritage is clear from his angular facial features and sharply pointed ears, but his well-muscled body is much more human in appearance. His hair is as white as summer clouds and his eyes as blue as the midday sky. A storm mark covers his right upper arm and seems as though it may still be expanding.

His father, Maeryn, is a clerk for House Lyrandar, working primarily in bookkeeping for the production of airships. His mother, Eliza, was a Lyrandar by blood though not by name until she wed Maeryn. As a teen she had manifested a storm mark and it had been a great honor for Maeryn to be permitted to take her hand. Together they raised Taryn to value the house and honor its leadership.

Growing up in Stormhome, all of the young half-elf's friends were part of the House also and some lighthearted competition developed around who would be able to rise highest in its ranks. When Taryn's dragonmark developed it put him well in the running for winner of that competition. With practice he learned to harness its power not only to create gusts of wind but to augment his power in combat. Leaders within the House recognized his unusual ability and appointed tutors to foster it. Everything was going very well for him until his brother, Haldoth, went missing. He had been in Sharn working (and having fun) when unexpectedly his letters stopped coming. Taryn got permission from his parents and the House to go looking for him. He signed on as a deckhand on a house airship to earn his passage and several months (and many lessons on geography and sailing) later he arrived in the City of Spires.
