This is to attempt to get past the outer sentries.
[Dice=Cautious DD Dex]2d6+2+1
You creep past the sentries, the two are talking to each other.
"I'm sorry, If I wasn't on duty tonight, I would have covered for you"
"It doesn't really matter, it's not like we're back in Salnga, the real difference is if we're drinking around a big fire, or a small one"
"Still, it's your birthday, you shouldn't be on guard duty."
"I'll celebrate when we're back home, you should bring your kids over, we'll cook something nice, and toast our victory."
"Does Milread still make that o-"
You trip on the hem of the robes, and stumble. their heads swing around to your direction.
"Did you hear that?"
"Yeah"
"Doesn't look like there's anyone there"
"Either way, you should tell the others, someone might be creeping about"
one of them races off. now the others will be on alert, take -1 ongoing to stealth in this camp. What do you do?
Ron Bucanero |
Ron heads towards the closer of the supply wagons or the cook fires. Does the camp individually guard these in addition to the outer sentries? If so, how are these guarded?

There are guys walking around, but they are mostly at the three fires. a few people are going to the butchers, you have a few moments before they arrive. What do you do?
Sheridan Driftwood |
Sheridan looks TAM up and down. You go play in the water upstream till I send for you. As she ambles off, the merfolk looks to the others. "Now, we can't be shy here folks. Somebody's got to ask for the first dance."
Ron Bucanero |
I'm not too worried about the butcher. What's going on at the supply wagons? I'd like to climb into one of the supply wagons if that seems at all feasible given the number of people guarding them.
So most of the non-sentries are sitting around the fires? What time of day is it?
Belym |
Belym replies to Sheri, "I thought we were waiting for the militia to attack from the flank... But when the time comes, let's send Spike here first. I'm hoping he can dig a nice trench through their camp, make it a little harder for them to respond." With that, Belym resumes watching the camp for a response to an attack.
Does that sound like a reasonable Command for the elemental? Also, could you maybe update the map to show the side we're approaching from - sentry locations, etc?
Ron Bucanero |
The strike force is myself, Tom, Belym and the fish woman. Little large for a strike team, but without a second elf I've had to fill the equivalent number of outlanders. The signal...is screaming Braxinese soldiers.
That is the instruction to the militia. I think they are waiting on us.

Sheridan draws an arrow back until the bow creaks, then looses, launching the arrow high and wide of anything important. "Oh dang. I guess they know where we are now. Silly fish. Do we kill people now? I think I saw some animal pens this way..." Sharidan starts toward the pens. "I know I'd be right cranky if anyone loosed my critters." The traveler draws another arrow, knocking it with alarmingly improved skill. "Crikey this twanger can huck a stick. Is that thing still in the air?"

The supply wagons are unguarded, but right next to the butchers, which is why I mention it. climb on in if you wish. Yes, the majority of the men are around cookfires, it is a few hours after dusk.

Yes, that is a great use of a hazard elemental

Belym twitches Spike's leash, asking it to charge down the hill, past the four approaching soldiers, before diving into the earth and plowing a trench through the middle of the enemy camp, kicking up a spray of dirt behind it. well, I'm sure that 4 won't be a problem. Let me know if I retain my 1 control following whatever fallout occurs...
Ron Bucanero |
Ron climbs into the southwest supply wagon and begins rummaging in his pack.
I'd like to mark four uses of adventuring gear to pour significant amounts of flammable lantern oil over the supplies inside each wagon. I see Ron climbing from wagon to wagon across the interior gaps between the wagons. Final use of gear would be lighting a torch while standing between all four wagons, and quickly lighting the oil in each wagon. Is this reasonable and what rolls will be necessary to do it?
Sheridan Driftwood |
Standing a bit east of the others, Sheridan begins a reckless volley of arrows. Any skilled archer would wince at how aggressively the Merfolk lays into the bow as he marches forward, grinning like a maniac.

Inside the wagons are dozens of crates, full of preserved meats and hard bread, others are full of various supplies The crates are 5 weight each, and either contain 25 uses of adventuring gear, or rations, do you take anything?
As you douse the crates in oil, the fumes begin to make you light headed. You set up the torch, and prepare to set it all aflame. DD+Con to do this

Ron lights the wagons, dropping the torch inside the final wagon, and heads to cook fires hoping for an opportunity to approach unmolested. He smiles at his handiwork and looks to see if any soldiers move to put out the fires.
I'm not sure exactly where the cook fires are, but that's where I'm headed. Have the soldiers moved away from the cook fires to deal with the earth, wind, and fire?
Conwall |
I wait for the soldiers to start getting set upon by the elemental and the arrows from the militia before leading our forces towards the camp to work as backup for Ron. Once the fighting starts we should have an opening to come in and flank them

I added the fires on the map
The wagons catch ablaze, you move onward. You can either go to the fire by the animal cages (which has about 16 men, foreign mercenaries, and half as many enormous beasts), or the butchers (which has about 20 soldiers desperately scrambling to get ready to repel the attack)

A few moments, after the wagons catch fire, and Belym permanently disfigures the landscape, flaming arrows rain down on the tent. luck has it that none of the tents catch, but the attack has begun in earnest, what do you do?
Ron Bucanero |
So arrows would be raining down near the butcher cookfire? Time to stop stalling and head to the commander's tent.
As the arrows begin raining down, Ron heads along the northwest tent and turns south so the commander's tent comes into view. He cautiously approaches until he can see the commander's tent entrance and the cook fire. How many soldiers remain?
DM Volsung |
Lets go!
I make haste towards the side of camp not under fire by elemental or arrow. Give them a third thing to deal with. Hopefully my friends are following.
As you charge, you see a few groups already forming to defend their encampment. three groups (Two of 6, one of 8). One of the men spots you, what do you do?

Sheridan Driftwood |
Looking back to Tom for just a second, Sheridan motions toward the stables. He wants to approach them with the intent of watching someone saddle a horse for him, then accost them with deadly force. He'll watch the whole process once or twice, then take out any lone stragglers, like a carpetshark prowling a reef during an evacuation.
Tagalong Tom might make that difficult. "Those critters, the big wolves, we aught to keep them out of hand." Suddenly, he catches the human's concerned expression. "I may not know your war or your weapons, but taking down things what are bigger'n I am, that's a thing I am very used to doing. The points in this camp are like organs, and if we can disable enough organs, the beast will come down. Focusing on one organ poses the risk of that organ being well-defended."
Then the spikes come up, and Sheridan's smile widens. "I'm not here to die for your territory dispute, I will do my best to keep in sight of a way out. I'll do that by staying out of the middle of that camp."
Ron Bucanero |

Ron looks down at his arm to make sure he remains invisible and then back up at the man who is clearly in command. So Selwyn is standing with the four elite soldiers looking at the cooking fire?
Conwall |
Sorry for all the questions, but I feel that a wrong step here will lead to someone getting killed. Do we all have access to the path through the tents that Tom sees (meaning: Are the soldiers on the side optional or required)? Between the three of us, gesturing to include Glaucus, we can take down the commander, get this over with quickly, and send as few people t' their graves early as possible. If you wish t' be showy let's take this horse and charge it directly into the guards. You can feed it t' that large creature, if it eats meat, after all is said and done.

Sheridan lets the sword fall with the dying man, and coos at the horse, offering some sweet fishflakes. "Right, atta girl. The bad man's gone." He glances back toward the entry, then checks the would-be rider for a fresh weapon. If the longsword looks like the best option, he'll retrieve that, but a bow would be stellar.
"You'd look a sight in the riptide too, but I'd wager it would take more than a fangfish to conquer your wits. I'm not sure how young you take me for, but survival means edging someone else out, wherever you're from. May I suggest we cut a line to the shore then? Bucky may have need of a swift retreat, and there'll be none swifter than to call TAM. We could cut the leads and open the gates on these other beasts, if you're not insistent on plunging into the thick as soon as possible."
If the horse calms, Sheridan will gather up Glaucus and stick him sadle-side with a plop.
I'm sure some of that requires dice. Parley the horse? Discern Realities? Defy Danger WIS/INT/DEX for the tack? I'll leave dice +bless here if it makes things easier.
2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 1) + 1 = 8
Ron Bucanero |
I've never faced Selwyn before. Time to go all in.
Ron quickly moved up to the commander and places his hand on Selwyn's back. He becomes visible a moment before a blue light emanates from Remorse and engulfs Selwyn.
Cast Charm Person: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 5) + 2 = 8
Fingers crossed.
EDIT: -1 on future casting.
Ron speaks confidently, Commander, I am a servant of Kelos. The lord sent me to warn you, but it seems I may be too late. This assault is a ruse, and a much larger force of Tanard soldiers approaches from the south east. We must sound the call to retreat and regroup.
As he speaks Ron looks around the "room." Anything of note?
DM Volsung |
As the soldiers move to intercept, I fling my dagger at one and engage an other with Catastrophe.
Wow those were s~#! rolls. Thanks Bless!
My dagger goes wide, the price for trying to multitask. The other solider meets me head on though, exchanging blows. Hopefully mine hit harder...
What? My rolls are sucking right now. Sorry guys!
Your knife goes flying, killing a soldier 40 meters away, nice shot, but it does alert that squad to your location, and they are moving in.. you engage the men, and two of them fall under your assault, before they drive you back. Jericho fells another, and wounds a fourth, but takes a blade to her chainmail. it doesn't pierce, but it will bruise badly. What do you do?
soldier damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
You certainly act the buffoon Sheridan, but it seems we all have a bit of a past when it comes t' something like this.
Tom tries to prepare the horse for a rider, and get it ready to charge into combat.

sounds like you are discerning realities on the corpse. Whats valuable here is the standard braxan equipment (yes, including a bow, but it is unstrung.) however, instead of a longsword, you find a cavalry sabre. (+2 damage while mounted). what are your other two questions, and What do you do?\

"You are with the cult in the Fortress? good, then We shall retreat there, and send for the supply caravans to go there instead.". he says, not questioning your sudden appearance. "Sound the retreat, head for the fortress. there are more coming!" he yells to his guards, who immediately scramble off.
as he does that, you examine his room. the Tarack patriarch is a spartan, it would seem. he has bedding, a map-table, his armour and sword (a claymore every bit as polished as Remorse), a chest, and a small writing desk.
He turns back to you "I must ask a favour friend, do this and you will be well rewarded, I promise. I need you to summon something, one of your demons, to distract ot destroy this force. an unorganized retreat under fire is suicide for my men. can you do that?" he asks. What do you do?
Conwall |
Hearing the shout of the guards, I ready my blade, elven Skysteel practically singing in the cold night air.
Gentlemen, you've fought bravely, but if you value your lives, I implore you to disengage and retreat. Some of you might survive this fight, but can you be certain you'll be the one to live? Your commander has sounded the retreat. Take this gift.
Parley + bless. Leverage: all their blood stays on the inside of their body: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 = 12
Ron Bucanero |
Of course, but on my own and this far from our altar . . . Kelos would demand a great sacrifice. I fear the cost would be too high. We would need numerous human sacrifices, and I cannot ask you to spend your men. Do you have any prisoners?

Belym pulls back on the boar's leash, bringing it back around to charge at any group of soldiers along Conwall's path. She then launches another boulder at the nearby group of soldiers before racing down the hill, following Conwall's path.
[Dice=Command Elemental]2d6+2
[Dice=Channel Giant's Sharpened Stones] 2d6+2
[Dice=Boulder damage]1d6ugh, another miss :p And that's my last Control, so the boar is now loose.
Oh gods, I kinda did forget, I was writing mine when this went up. sorry
The boar turns, and tramples the soldiers, knocking them flat. but it is now loose, and charging randomly. it may be a problem In other words, he's a hard move now!
Your stone flies wide again, this time landing in the river, and making a mass in the bottom that quickly becomes a bridge. Like most of your stone it will evaporate in a few hours, however, fot the moment, the braxan soldiers have a way to the Norwich archers. What do you do?
