Kurag Urlot III |
Thanks Ondek. Stay close behind me by about 100ft in case this goes south. That should allow me to fly back to you and get you guys up closer at the same time.
Having gotten the blessing from Ondek and taking the silence as a nod of assent from the others Kurag heads off once again to try his luck at making the bird-like creatures more acceptable to working as a team. He takes some of his meat rations as an offering to them as they are clearly carnivores.

Wild empathy usually can be tried on magical beasts with an Int of less than 3, at a penalty. Dunno if these are smarter than that, or if they're aberrations.

The peryton that Kurag is directing his attention to, smiles with his bloody, toothy maw. Look brothers, this foolish creature offers us dead meat, not knowing that its beating heart is the true delicacy! With that it takes flight.

Kurag should be with you as he is frightened.
Frightened: A frightened creature flees from the source of its fear as best it can. If unable to flee, it may fight. A frightened creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. A frightened creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.
Frightened is like shaken, except that the creature must flee if possible. Panicked is a more extreme state of fear.

DM RichD |
From what I understand from the boards, if you ready an action, then that action will go off when the creature does it's flyby.
I always thought flying attacks were confusing!
So I am assuming that even though the creature 'is on top of' Kurag i.e. taking up a five-foot square right above him, it still will be reachable by those that are adjacent to Kurag as it seems that AOO's and readied actions are still allowed. I know there are some DM's in the group, so is that how you have DM'd melee attacks by flying creatures?
Ondek Brightstone |
Just had to check flyby attack. It allows for attack in middle of movement but does not preclude AoOs. So, if the monster moves through threatened squares to make the attack, readied attacks will trigger when it steps (flies) into range and AoO will trigger while it moves out of threatened squares.
Khari Dronwoth |
Watching Kurag fly above overhead, she sighs heavily and returns to the group, releasing a blast of healing energy from her goddess.

Kurag looks around at the others as the peryton died. So, that could have gone better. I guess the idea of us attacking giants together was a no then. Thanks for hurry8 g up guys and that fly spell was great Ondek. Let’s look for a lair quick and then keep heading onward. With his fly ability he takes to the sky a bit to get a look at the surrounding area and searches for a peryton lair.

Ondek casts detect magic, then heads to the giant and looks around for loot or info.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
DM RichD |
@Ondek: You note that the dead hill giant is wearing a guardian gorget as an earring.
@Kurag: From the sky you see that a narrow footpath heads west through a field of boulders and dense scrub into a small side canyon that branches off from the main valley. Windswept piles of dead leaves and branches clump between boulders poking though the thin, dry topsoil. Patches of green and pale yellow lichen cling to the rocky canyon walls.
The footpath continues for several hundred yards, emptying into a wide, boulder-filled clearing at the western edge of the canyon. A dark cave opens in the cliff face 30 feet above the valley floor. Fragments of cracked and broken bones litter the ground below the cave mouth.

"This is a magical gorget, it will provide some armor on it's own, and allow for a magical glyph to be scribed onto it. That glyph would damage anyone striking the wearer in combat. Unfortunately, I dont have that spell in my spellbook, but it is something I could learn eventually."
Kurag Urlot III |
Wand of cure light 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Kurag moves onward following the trail that deviates from the main path. Reaching the caves he casts gravity bow and pass without trace from his wands as he turns to the others. Not sure what to expect but I am assuming some sort of flying creature or creatures inhabit this cave. By its size it seems to be larger than the perytons. I will do my best to scout it out if you wish to remain down here. Just be ready if I come running back because there is a dragon or something in there.
After a moments thought she changes his mind, Screw that! If there is a dragon in here you haul your a$$ up here and help me take it out while it is in the cave and trapped.
He gets out his rope and grappling hook and make sure to fasten it for the slower less agile and more encumbered iron tanks to climb up with.
