Mechs have completely taken over all encounters & thrown balance out the window

1/5

Chicks dig giant robots

2/5

New class stuff is awesome, new equipment is always nice, and the vehicle section I will find the most useful as the GM.

I found the Mech building rules to be an annoying convoluted mess, but the rest of the book is solid. I plan on using NPC building and Custom Vehicle building rules and an alternative system since the end result is mathematically close enough with less hassle, especially since in the VTT I use (Fantasy Grounds) I can't offload mech creation to the Players between session due to technical limitations of the system.

5/5

The fluff could use a little work

4/5

I enjoyed the new gear, new class options, and mechs, but came away unsatisfied from some of the write-ups of various sectors of the economy.

I did glean a few facts which are useful for constructing a coherent worldview but felt like there was still a lot missing. The write-ups address things from a "common citizen" point of view but fail to address macro issues like:

- Why do people trade in credsticks instead of UPB's if the latter is less traceable?

- Similarly why do people prefer credsticks to UPB's?

- Is it a fabrication economy or is it heavily reliant on shipping? Are there agri-worlds? How do the Pact Worlds stay fed?

- How does environmental support work on armors that aren't sealed against vacuum?

- Are robotic enemies hackable and if so do they behave just like drones or is there something that prevents them from being hacked?

etc.

Amazing expansion to Starfinder!

5/5

This book is expands on the sci-fi setting that is Starfinder!

It, not only, delivers cool new options to past classes, but delves into the "how" of a lot of tech aspects of the setting! So cool!

Nice! Any word on whether or not this will be approximately the same 160 pages as other products, or if this might be drastically larger or smaller?

Merry effing Christmas yourself, Paizo! Wow, I'm kinda overwhelmed with anticipation for Starfinder's 2021. Magic, Tech, and Galaxy Exploration. This RPG is starting to feel really well-rounded out. And virtual intelligence stuff, to boot! I finally got that thing I've been wanting (probably)! So very happy.

So yeah, 2021 might have my favorite Pathfinder/Starfinder release schedule yet. Seriously bang-up job, Paizo.

Always a bit of a rush, seeing a new entry in the pre-order tab.

So Tech Revolution offers robots of every size?

Microscopic robots? Check.

Building sized robots? Also Check.

I really hope archaic weapons will also get a little love. The choices for level 1 characters have seemed lackluster from the beginning, compared to the wealth of options for level 1's in Pathfinder.

I imagine this book wont have any archiac weapons given the very opposite of archiac tech is the theme of the book.

I hope we get a book that similarly expands magic, it feels like the fantasy part of Starfinder is a little neglected, which can be disappointing since that's a big part of its appeal for me.

Well, we don't really know what book the Precog will be in. Perhaps that might be on the horizon.

It was practically a given that there was going to be a magic book somewhere down the line when they trotted out the Precog playtest. Practically... still the possibility that it might be something else but that something else would probably be VERY trippy.

As for Tech Revolution... after the playtest I'm marginally curious to see what new options the Mechanic and the Biohacker get but I've found I could really care less about the main draws of the book.

Ya, we don't exactly have long list of devils/daemons/demons/other fiends to use as foes either since starfinder has put more focus on new creatures and most of the new creatures aren't outsiders from other planes than material x'D

Right. The precog class will not be in this book. It will be in another, unannounced book. I'm sure we will talk about it at PaizoCon, if not GenCon online in March. I don't know the details of what we will talk about yet. But I think you will like it. Cheers.

Wait... "GenCon online in March."?!?! When did this happen? Where can I learn more? Did you mean PaizoCon in May or is PaizoCon moved to March this year? GenCon's web page does not list any future events at any time in March on any year as far as I can find.

It is called the Gen Con Spring Showcase, March 1-7, 2021. We are planning a live-play, but I don't see a website yet. I'm sure they are getting exhibitors lined up and will post it soon. I guess you "heard it here first," haha.

I hope we get final cover art for this soon. Secrets of Magic and The Grand Bazaar seem to already have their final cover art and it looks great on both of those books. I am really curious what this book's cover art will look like.

On sidenote with mention of "relics" in shop blurb, I wonder if that means this book will have Kishalee and Sivv relics in it along maybe relics of new precursor civilizations? :O

I am trying to find the product defect and unsolvable marketing difficulties inherent in "Adventure Series featuring Giant Mechs, Technowizards, Dragons, and Legendary Godzilla like Boss".

Turns out? I can't find any. And I'm an old guy now. Them young whipper-snappers like their giant Robots even more than my demographic - by a lot.

Just sayin.

Right? I feel like the creative teams have their collective fingers on the pulse of what the community wants. I just have to shout it all out as loudly as possible and line them up like busy airport. Hiring a Marketing Coordinator soon and so happy for the extra hand. :)

Please, please, PLEASE tell me that they fixed the Nanocyte and that you will now be able to shape more than one Major Form per Gear Array.

Seriously, that was like my biggest problem during the playtest, because you needed to manage item levels to such a ridiculous level that you should just have 1 Major Form /6 level in Gear Array to be decent.

Other than that, I'm eager to see the expanded Mech rules... and now I'm curious about "customizing your own space-age vehicles", because that would be cool to get scalable vehicles of your own liking ;)

On a sidenote, given that mechs can bought, customized and piloted by characters as low level as... 1, maybe some rule adaptations would be welcomed, because going from Medium to Huge or Gargantuan and vice-versa is gonna need some work.

You give PCs mechs, a.k.a. new shiny toys, and you can bet your career that PCs are gonna run 99% of your campaign with them :P While there isn't a rule to forbid players to use mechs, some adjustments will be required to avoid breaking the game.

A couple of Huge Assembly Oozes or the like might be *just the trick*.

I am hopeful that:
1.) The new mech system is usable by everyone, because everyone should be able to enjoy it, not just people who spec into it.

2.) Power armor users who already invested a lot of build in feats to get powered armor proficiency get some benefit out of it when piloting mechs, since the large power armors are not very different from small mechs conceptually, and I'm a little worried that you're going to see characters who invested heavily in power armor rendered obsolete when everyone is in big mechs.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I'm very excited for the virtual intelligences, mech system, and the science-fantasy tech segment, we did a lot of work with our characters on like their favorite holovids / games / restaraunts etc. and entertainment tech like music is a fun way to explore more of that.

I mean technically speaking, anything you invest in normally would be relatively obsolete when you get into mechs.

Just because of the whole "you count your average party level as apl plus three when in mechs"

(sidenote: I'm hyped for mech modules ;D)

1) There was some concern about how non-caster benefited way more from mechs than casters, as there wasn't anything that amplified a spellcaster's abilities when piloting a mech. Hope it will be addressed.

2) As others told me in another topic, it's up the GM to either forbid mechs, or to allow them and to talk with players about it.

I would imagine that cities, nations, and space stations(and possibly even entire planets) would have restrictions on mech use and operation.

August cant come soon enough.

This book doesn't show up on the home page, or Starfinder upcoming releases. Probably not great for sales/hype/discussion if people have to jump through a lot of hoops to even preorder this.

Wayfinders

The fact that it shows up as unavailable for preorder right now is also a bit worrisome (as do other releases scheduled for August, most notably Secrets of Magic for PF2).

Hope it doesn't mean a delay, but it might just be that unfortunately.

Clearly, Pathfinder Cult of Cinders should not be on the home page under upcoming releases and, indeed, Starfinder Tech Revolution would be a good replacement. Thanks for calling the issue to our attention.

Two things revealed in the Paizo live stream:

-this book will almost certainly not be pushed back any further, as they have these on hand.
-there will be rules to make scaling cantrips.

There was more, but those were my favorite two items.

Wait rules for scaling cantrips.. in Tech revolution you mean? I mean I am absolutely all for that. But would've guessed that'd been in the magic one later this year

Also. Did they happen to cover if biohackers are getting much in this book?

I wanted to watch that stream but near as I can tell, I can't find it anymore at this point.

Yeah, the scaling cantrips was for Galactic Magic.

I think there was mention of a gun that can heal in this book, though.

Oh, I misheard then.

I blame it on the questionable choice of having it be a livestream in the first place. Of all the decisions made over the years, the video podcasts and discords make me want to just quit the hobby altogether. I want to hear what is happening, but these are just an absolutely awful experience for me.

I enjoy play streams, but as an information source I hate the entire format.

Tip: If you don't watch Twitch streams live, you can then A) play them at x1.25 or x1.5 speed, which are still readily audible; and B) skip ahead to just the sections that cover topics of interest. Cuts a big chunk of time.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

It's not the time I mind chiefly (though thank you for the tip, I will try that). Videos/podcasts just don't work for me. I have trouble processing information like that. I rarely watch television and never use audiobooks for similar reasons.

I will say that appreciate that Paizo generally and Aaron especially makes a lot effort to make these interesting. I really do enjoy seeing Paizo people that might not make as frequent convention panel appearances like editors and individual freelance contributors, but I'll never be able to enjoy these as a whole.

Sorry for the miscommunication. As I understood it on Friday, all the hardcover releases for the August 25 date were in and we were waiting for one minor product to come in. Today, we are hoping to hear an update in the next hour or so on when the last item (Tech Revolution) will arrive. I would not have called Starfinder Tech Revolution a minor product if I had known. We will update this thread once we hear back on whether we have an update on Tech Revolution and if that will be included in August or September's new releases: August 2021 New Releases and Subscription Shipping
