Carrion Crown AP: The Haunting of Harrowstone (Inactive)

Game Master Lord Pizzmic

Tales are told throughout Golarion of shadowy figures that lurk in dark corners—stories recounted at children’s bedsides feature bestial creatures that come out only when the moon is right, and fireside legends speak of otherworldly beings beyond reckoning, whose very existence is more than the human mind can bear to know. These are the legends that explain where the blood of the family cow went, and why clerics spend so much time ensuring the proper Pharasmin rites are observed at gravesites throughout the Inner Sea. One can write them off as simple, scary stories in Absalom or Westcrown, but in Ustalav, everyone knows the truth of the things that go bump in the night. In the Carrion Crown Adventure Path, the horrors of the night become undeniably real as the PCs undertake a journey that will decide the future of a nation.

This is just an initial interest check for the carrion crown AP. I have a couple RL friends that want to play some pathfinder but our lives don't give us the capabilities to sit down in a face to face setting, i thought of the play by post style as a great alternative to accommodate the hectic schedules while still having the fun of regular gaming. I will want a party of about six and there are currently only 3 positions filled. Looking to begin Jan.28th at the latest

The basic Gameplay
-high fantasy build level one characters
-starting wealth+25gd
-medium exp. progression
-core rulebook races and classes only (no Archetypes)
-Feats, traits, and alternate racial traits can be used from the following source books.
- Advanced Players Guide
- Ultimate Magic
- Ultimate Combat

I'm only putting restriction on the classes and races because i'm fairly familiar with all and it will simplify the need of in game research.

What am I'm looking for in a player?
I want someone that is dedicated to gaming, someone who takes an active role in trying to bring his character concept to life from the words they write. I want a minimum of one post per day but encourage as much as you want to spend online. There is nothing worse then a dead thread. if majority of the group is active i will not put the game on hold for days on end because of one player. I will need everyone to create their characters a profile on here, so if need be i can take actions for them if they become stagnate.
I am in no way a rules Nazi, if there is a skill or check that could reasonably be made in a given situation that isn't what the AP calls for i will trump the AP for the betterment of the group. This game is more about the RP rather than hack and slash OP characters.

This game should be a lot of fun with really interesting twists and turns. its a intriguing adventure that combines detective investigation with modern day horror story.

This first part will get players up to level 4. I have the next two segments already purchased so if this group gets on a role and people are having fun this could be a long term gaming group.

Two questions leap to mind
If you already have three characters, what are they? Alternatively you do not care about overlap?
A lot of people on this board have played or run sections (or all) of Carrion Crown. Do you want to put restrictions on people, or trust them not to metagame.

Also, to my knowledge it is not possible to transfer aliases between people - did you mean setting up complete new accounts to which you also have the password? I think that is frowned upon.
If people did make aliases then you could make an equivalent alias with the same picture and a similar name... eg "DM Pizzmic" and "DM Pizzmic (NPC)"

I would be interested if you decide to go ahead with this. I have never played CC

Scarab Sages

I too would be interested. I have never played in that one yet, been wanting too and i certainly have no problem with anything core related, heck that is what i mostly play anyway

I'm interested.
BTW does one of the traits have to be a campaign trait?

Dark Archive

Just to be 100% clear before I create a character (I think I have a choice of three that meet your criteria):

Quote:
-starting wealth+25gd

Is this avg wealth + 25 GP?

Quote:

-core rulebook races and classes only (no Archetypes)

-Feats, traits, and alternate racial traits can be used from the following source books.
- Advanced Players Guide

Just to be 100% certain, you are excluding Advanced Player's Guide Classes, but not feats

Grand Lodge

I am very intersted. I have a character set up for 20 points. If you are interested in her I can certainly upgrade her to 25 points.

Color me interested. I have a human cleric loitering around from a failed Carrion Crown game if need be. It won't be any trouble for me to retool him slightly for this campaign.

But you say there are three positions filled? What all slots have been taken? I'm certainly not adverse to rolling something up from scratch if need be.

High fantasy is 20pts acaording to the core rule book. Epic fantasy is 25pts.

I have a sorceror to offer. Needs a few tweaks but could be ready soon.

I am interested. Thinking of human diviner.

Same as Zelda, I have a character already built for a high fantasy CC run, can I submit him?

"I'd like to join", Eldon says as he walks into the room. "I'm a halfling bard. A storyteller travelling the lands, hoping to obtain more stories of adventure."

Background:
As a young boy Eldon worked in an apothecary shop owned by his parents. Here he learnt the basics of healing, which do still come in handy for him from time to time. When he almost reached adulthood Eldon began to frequently visit taverns, looking for a fun place to drink some beer and pass some time. One day a bard visited the tavern Eldon frequented, and the bard told the audience in the tavern great tales of adventure. This inspired Eldon to also become a bard, and he began practicing telling stories and performing jiggs.

When 20 years of age Eldon set out in the world, eager for adventure. He travelled to various places all over the continent and met a wide variety of people. Though nowhere he went Eldon encountered actual adventure. This caused Eldon to start exaggerating his stories somewhat, so it'd at least seem like he'd experienced a lot of adventure. However, the halfling bard had never expected his own stories to be so convincing. Eventually he came to believe his own made-up stories.

Personality:
Eldon loves telling stories about himself, and loves to exaggerate when telling his stories. This, in combination with his extravert personality, causes Eldon's epic tales to be somewhat too epic. In turn this causes people to think he's lying, which he basically really is. However, Eldon's not always aware of his own exaggerations. A reason may be that Eldon finds himself so convincing he starts believing whatever he says.

Always eager to impress other people with his skills as a bard, Eldon has more than stories at his disposal. He also knows a wide variety of jiggs, which he can often be seen performing. When dancing or telling stories Eldon often makes use of magical instruments, which enhance his performances.

Eldon doesn't revere any god or goddess, but by inspiring himself with his tales of awesomeness he's convinced he can take on everything. He eagerly searches for adventures so he can tell the tales of his bravery to others.

Appearance:
Being a halfling means Eldon isn't very tall, having a length of 3 feet (0.91 m). His weight is average for a halfling of his stature, as he weights just 34 lbs (15.4 kg). Eldon is 23 years old, but by letting his side-whiskers grow long he managed to look a staggering 24 years old. His hair is a light blond, and his eyes are a light blue.

Considering himself an adventurer, Eldon wears an explorer's outfit. His outfit includes a black cloth shirt and brown leather breeches, held up with a brown belt. Over his shirt Eldon wears a red jacket. Also, he wears sturdy black boots, brown leather gloves, and a brown cloak which protects him against the weather and is used to store various small items.

We allowed mutliclassing? If so, I'm so going Druid-Fighter.
Gunslingers aren't allowed, because that is a base class, but are guns allowed, since you can take the exotic weapon proficiency feat (guns)?
Keep in mind I don't have the books, I've just played pathfinder online, but on another site entirely, so my character will definitely need looked over when finished.

"I'd like to travel with you for a while, good sir," Nehemiah leans forward to say.
"I knew the good Professor from my time with him in university and am already travelling to his funeral. Perhaps if we travel together we can share stories of the places we have been and the things we have seen."

Nehemiah Czerka

Say, how do we get links to our characters? I have most of him finished, but I need a link to my character. He starts out as a fighter, but may multi-class into a Druid later if able.

Go into your account and create an alias, after you save it, you can click on the name in "Messageboard Aliases", then you can add everything there in a profile.

The three players have not picked their classes as of yet, I'm not overly worried about overlap as long as the characters aren't a copy&paste of one another. But usually the roles needed to have a successful group only need one person to fill and multiple of the same class often will share the same role.

Harakani wrote:

I would prefer to have players who haven't already played the AP so more new players can enjoy the story as i have. If the group is still short players when i intend to start gameplay i will accept people who have already played the game and will message them when i prefer for them to be silent about critical spoilers

rooboy wrote:

Yes...sorry that wasn't clear. Take the average wealth for your class described in the corerulebook and add 25gd

rooboy wrote:

Yes the feats and traits are completely playable. They help players to make characters that better fit their initial ideas.

Chillblame already answered this question for me but high fantasy is a 20 point build. so the character shouldn't need tweaking.

Multi-classing is fine. I'm saying no to guns at least for now. If guns are available to PCs, they will also be available to NPCs and i don't think ranged touch attack damage is fun at level one. I recommend buying the core rulebook if you even just grab it second hand. There are so many questions you can answer on your own without needing to ask how it works with a book handy. But that is just for your sanity not a requirement i'm trying to impose

No you don't have to take one of the campaign traits but i would like your reason for knowing professor lorrimor to be one of the options given with the traits though

Everyone interested should take the time and read over this guide to help you get a better idea of the campaign and how you would build your characters to be both effective and appropriate for the setting.

http://paizo.com/products/btpy8j0q?Pathfinder-Adventure-Path-Carrion-Crown- Players-Guide

Thank you all for the interest, i got online and was a little overwhelmed by the immediate interest.

I am quite interested. However I will be honest, I am currently new to this site although I have been playing pathfinder for a few years. I am in the works of creating general characters that can be tweaked for different campaigns. I am simply wondering if I might possibly join this one as my first on the site and if not if it might be possible to redirect me to one that I may perhaps join that can accommodate me.

I'll throw my hat in the ring. Sothonin is a monk that was made for a different Carrion Crown game, but was not selected for play. Crunch and backstory can be found in the profile page. Just finished editing to fit this game's rules.

http://paizo.com/people/DoubleGold
I'll have to edit him to include feats and stuff, him but it isn't showing up in aliases.

@Genesis S.A. Garland- I'm fairly new to PBP gaming as a whole myself. i found it hard to get into groups when i first started looking to play in game because i didn't have many posts linked to my account. Im not going to commit any promises to specific players as of yet but being a new player is not going to hinder your chances of getting in this game.

Silver Crusade

@DM_Pizzmic- I appreciate your understanding. I am working on getting my post count up, however I didn't want to seem like I am trying to spam for them. I am choosing my threads carefully in hopes of finding new information and possibly people who will guide me through the site until I can stand on my own two feet. In retrospect, this site requires a type of auto save whilst writing ones profile. I lost an entire history on this character due to an outage. it was quite disappointing.

Also a question campaign wise. Are you allowing the "one dump" system for the stats? and if so you are enforcing the no stat over 18 correct?

Grand Lodge

Yes you need to be careful and save a lot. I have often lost a post because I took too long deciding how I wanted it to appear. It might help if you use note pad then copy onto the site. Just a suggestion.
Just think I got to learn this trying to get into an AP :) and I am still trying. Just dont get discouraged a lot of people want to play.

A small, nervous-looking man nervously raises his hand. "I-I can be of some use, maybe..." His reedy voice is barely more than a whisper, and he drops his hand before drawing any undue attention to himself.

Radim Iranon

Langsford here. Got Radim retooled and ready to go.

Shadow Lodge

If you could be needin' some assistance, I would be yer girl. I be on my way to the funeral of me poor friend, professor Lorrimar

This is chillblame submitting Vladlena, a halfling sorceror

Just need to fix up my skills and it still won't let me transfer my created profile over to aliases after saving, don't know what else I have to do.

And I need someone to suggest traits for me. Though I haven't written a backstory yet, my characters favorite enemies are undead and demons. He wants to climb mount everest or the equivalent thereof in this world. And he hopes to be able to swim the waters of Alcatraz or the equivalent thereof in this world.

@GenesisS.A.Garland- yeah I don't want any stats above 18 or below 8. (this is the total after racial modifiers. so a Gnome barbarian can't spend 17 points of his build to get to con 18 and then apply the racial modifiers to get an additional +2.) I kinda hate dump stats, I get the most fighters are dull compared to a wizard class but INT 7 is pretty rough. I really encourage building a character that is going to be more fun to roleplay rather than only good at rolling dice. When I look back at games ive played i think about the wacky stuff that happened not how fast the group killed a boss. I guess strike a balance you are comfortable with, ill adjust the encounters accordingly.

The more people that become interested is making me consider doing another separate group from that of my RL friends. Once the work for one is complete the second is almost entirely copy and paste. I might consider a second group so more of those interested can have the chance to play but ill have to get a better idea of this semesters work load before i commit to another group. itll only take a couple days to decide so by all means keep the banter going.

Oh is my character legal, http://paizo.com/people/DoubleGold.
I know you frown upon stat dumping, but in real life, I would not know how to converse, so it doesn't do my character much good to have the Cha if I the player can't converse or would not know what to say in game, so I did set my Cha to 8. Other than that, I'm gonna try to role play best I can and give my character a personality that fits.

Grand Lodge

"I was so sorry to hear about the professor, he was an incredible teacher. His class on Partial Transmogrification and Recombination of Elementary Lifeforms was the reason I chose Transmutation as my primary focus at the Academy! Why, his theory of Eternal Pattern/Entropic Reversal alone... What? Oh, yes!

I hope that you will allow me to pay my last respects and help continue his quest for knowledge."

I started the Carrion Crown adventure path with this character, but we only got through the first 3-4 encounters before the game fell apart. I would really like to play if you'll have me!

Silver Crusade

@DM_Pizzmic- It does look like it is getting very popular. As for my character, he is optimized for combat however i used all 3 recommended skills given the player book suggested. I was looking through the people that were applying and it looks like it would be wise to role a fighter. I don't like dumb fighters so a standard 10 is what I strive for or maybe a 9 if he/she isnt the brightest of individuals but I can't deal with stats lower than that myself.

Regardless of my characters combat capabilities, all of my characters are centered on an RP-Heavy Foundation. In person, tabletop games I have played were more the Hack-&-Slash type of sessions where I couldn't really roleplay how I would like to. But when it comes to my writing capabilities, I have never felt more at home. I am currently using PC Gen to create my character to he should be up momentarily.

So here's an idea I had a while back for a Carrion Crown game that never got off the ground.

I'd like to play the ghost of Professor Lorrimor.

I know, it sounds weird and overpowered, but actually it isn't. Take a look at the sheet if you're curious. Here's the pitch-

As an Incorporeal creature, a ghost has very, very limited ways of interacting with the corporeal world. Without things like his spell book, the poor ghost of Lorrimor would be essentially reduced to being an observer in the investigation into his own murder. Once he runs out of the few spells still left in his mind, he will be left with nothing but cantrips to effect the world with. He will be very difficult to kill, and will be a great scout, but he also will not be able to actually help in combat much. I would be willing to lose the Touch of Corruption ability to even more limit his ability to fight. I'm considering taking a familiar so he would have some way of interacting with the world, but I'm also considering having his Bonded Item be the object that he haunts. Someone else would have to carry it around for him until he can have it enchanted with Ghost Touch, and if he can't go more than a few feet away from the object, that limits him even further (which is important for early game balance).

His story would be the process by which he figures out how to come with life after death. Of course, being the intellectual that he is, he finds the entire process fascinating. Now if only someone could make him a ghost touch pen…

Because of his ghostly nature, and the nasty head injury that killed him, Petros' mind is pretty fractured. He sometimes forgets important things, like the fact that he is dead, and where he is, and that most people who see him will be terrified. He sometimes becomes frustrated by the fact that he cannot pick things up, or open doors.

His thirst for knowledge and sense of justice is as strong as it was when he was alive. He knows he was murdered, but he doesn't remember what happened. Hopefully some of his old friends can help him.

It's going to be odd going to his own funeral.

Grand Lodge

I have updated my character to a 25 point buy. Please let me know if you think I should change anything.
"I wish I had contacted the professor sooner. I owe him so much and now I have no way to repay him.
Is there anything I can do, someway I can parially repay him for all he has done?"

@Zelda Lamplighter-

I believe in his responses he explains that we are doing a 20 point buy instead of the 25 point buy. I believe it was a slight confusion so you didnt have to tweak your character. I am only going his response so I don't want to sound rude but I just want to let you know just in case.

Here is what I am going by.

@Professor Lorrimor- No i don't want the tie in NPC apart of the campaign i want to run. Please don't post more spoilers in this feed. Please respect the fact that most of the people looking to play don't now more than i tell them in advance.

Pretty sure I haven't posted anything that isn't in the player's guide, but alright. It's your game.

I do thank you for being considerate, i like the character idea alot but it just won't work in this campaign thanks for the submission all the same.

I would certainly be interested, having never played carrion crown before... I'll see if I can work up a character this evening. It's rare I get to play rather than GM!

The crunch for Human Diviner is ready: Castor Drey

He actually has specialisation in a subschool of Divination: Foresight (from APG). Please let me know if that is OK or if I shall change him to standard Diviner.

Just a side note - I have not played CC before.

Now off to make the background.

oh, 20 point buy even though this is high fantasy, my character will definitely need tweaking.

Grand Lodge

Coming up...

Grand Lodge

I have reset her back to 20 points sorry about the confusion.

Here is my Paladin of Iomadae and Knight Aspirant of Lastwall.

Everything is in the profile, including the background.

I haven't min-maxed the character, and have yet to use one of his feats... not sure what to do with it as yet. I have used a trait from humans of Golarion (Bred for War) - happy to swap that out if thats an issue.

Disclaimer: I played in a PbP HoH game that petered out after we got into the prison.

I have also read it and the first 3 of the CC series in prep for a campaign I never ended up GMing (but I have hope it will happen... one day)

http://paizo.com/people/DoubleGold
all finished, hopefully I didn't go outside the books, since I got them all from a website I like to use.

Ill be posting the initial group that i have decided to go with later tonight and get this game started. I thank everyone who submitted characters. If i decide to run a second game ill contact interested players via private messages.

New to this entire thing, but I'm a Dwarf Barbarian in this. Prepare fer Burlee the Berzerkerrrr

OK Everyone I've had time to get things together and I would greatly appreciate if the following characters could make their way over to the discussion tab to continue with gameplay. (for some reason the gameplay tab isn't loading my post so for now the discussion board will have to do.)

-Heto Rohen
-Genesis Garland
-Vladlena
-Eldon Appleton
-Burlee

Silver Crusade

Hey Pizzmic,

OK, Thanks for the invite. I'll make a cleric, since I tend to do a lot of those and since no one else does, lol.

I have a gnome cleric (travel and luck subdomains) I'd likely have fun doing another incarnation of, if that sounds good.

Well, that was quick.

Congrats to all chosen.

I will finish the backstory for Castor Drey. If you decide to run another group through CC, please consider me for a spot on the team.
