About Sothonin

Backstory:
On the western border of the River Kingdoms, there is a place of higher learning unlike any other in the realm. While most other battle colleges extol the virtues of a deft blade and a strong strike, the academy on the banks of the lake takes a more liberal approach. Founded over 50 years ago by a Tian man named Kirano who wished to train warrior's minds as well as bodies. He called his academy, The Eternal Blossoming because of his belief that there was always more to learn in order to perfect one's self. In a short time, the academy earned prestige and recognition from both learned scholars and lauded warriors.

It was almost 10 years ago that Sothonin attended a lecture given by the renowned Petros Lorrimor. Sothonin, or Soth as he preferred to be called, was enrapt by the professor's speech and hung on his every word. The man was absolutely brilliant. Luckily for Soth, Lorrimor had been invited to dine with the academy's founder, his father. That dinner was the most memorable night of Soth's life. Tales of Lorrimor's travels inspired Soth to do his own globe trotting. The two of them spoke for hours, discussing numerous topics deep into the night.

By the end, Lorrimor returned to speak at the academy again on an almost yearly basis. Despite Soth's proclivity for traveling, he always managed to get back for Lorrrimor's lectures. Now when the two meet for dinner afterwards, they exchange tales of their travels in equal measure. It's almost time for Lorrimor to give another lecture at the academy and Soth is making his way back with excitement. He can't wait to speak with his good friend again. He has so much to tell him.

RP Sample:
Soth sat below decks, glumly perusing one of the books Lorrimor had brought the last time he had lectured at his father's academy. It was a dull treatise on the effects of modern siege weapons on the development of modern military tactics. The ship to Ustalav was in the second of it's two week journey and Soth had read the book cover to cover twice already. It seemed to have lost it's luster since the news came.

Soth had returned from taking a season in Absalom to hear the professor lecture at the academy again. He had intended to tell Lorrimor about his own travels and ask his opinions on the subject of where to go next. It had been a bright day, he smiled remembering. The sunshine seemed in stark contrast to the dark news he received that day. His father met him at the doors with a letter. His father said nothing, simply handed him the envelope. "To Sothonin, we regret to inform you . . ." he trailed off and the letter fell out of his hand.

Soth was brought back to himself by a particularly violent rocking of the boat, and he decided to stretch his legs above deck. He passed a few other passengers, some stopping in Ustalav, others passing through to Mendev to fight in the crusades, others bound for parts unknown. The cool fresh air above decks did much to improve his mood, as did the company of Sir Roderik, one of the crusaders bound for Mendev. "I don't suppose you have anything to eat or drink on you? I didn't have any breakfast." Soth asked of the crusader. "Aye, I thought you might have, didn't see your smiling face this morn!" The large man joked, producing a half loaf of bread from his belt pouch. Soth took it with thanks.

He continued after eating, "I don't want you to think I don't appreciate your company, but I was raised to believe that every word spoken is important and final. I try to consider my words carefully and thus I speak little. It does not help that I have just experienced a loss." The crusader laughed heartily and placed a hand on Soth's shoulder, looking out over the water with him. He spoke softly this time, "Aye, the loss of a comrade can be a trial of the soul, and a man who thinks before he acts is a rare commodity in this world, there's nothing wrong with that. But remember, nobody can read your mind, so it wouldn't hurt to let people in every once in a while, hmm? Now perk up, I think I can see the coast from here!" Indeed, the southern coast of Ustalav was coming into view. Soth smiled wanly, looking forward to seeing his friend. One last time.
