Teacher’s Pet (Campaign): Professor Lorrimor traveled the Inner Sea region lecturing and teaching at universities in locations as far-flung as Manaket and Magnimar, and as different in scope as the bardic colleges of Taldor and the battle colleges of the River Kingdoms. Speaking before standing-room-only lecture halls on topics as widely ranging as military strategy, planar anomalies, theology, and agriculture, Lorrimor’s time was highly valued among those ambitious to benefit from his expertise. Despite this, he still managed to provide one-on-one assistance to the most promising of his acolytes. When he saw the potential for greatness in one of his charges, he took it upon himself to nurture their spark. You were such a student. Tall and thin as a reed with dark brown hair and tanned skin, Calon's most outstanding feature are his piercing sky blue eyes. He shuns traditional wizards robes for more functional, loose explorer's clothes. He tends to move with a flowing grace, and becomes very distracted when he encounters a new creature, seeking to find out everything about it. He is very quiet, keeping to himself most of the time except when he expounds upon a new theory or discovery.
Background:
Calon's family lived in Sevenarches long before the humans came, and they refused to leave just because of these short-lived beings. Although no elves are allowed into the city, there are a few scattered families that have stayed behind, hiding in nearby areas and hoping one day to be allowed (or to force...) their way back into the city. Calon grew up in a forest near Sevenarches with his parents who lived off the land. They never had much when he was growing up, but they survived. Calon was always very shy but quick, and it became apparent as he was growing up that he had a talent for magic. His father was a ranger who trained him as best he could to fight, but his mother wanted to nurture his natural talents. She could see that he did not take to the divine worship that gave her power, and so she managed to scrape together enough rare components to bribe a human wizard named Alain from a town across the border from Sevenarches into accepting him as a student. Calon soon found a love of transformation spells. The ability to become anything he wanted to be, to gain the abilities of forest creatures! To fly as an eagle or become strong and tough as a bear, that was his dream. It was on an expedition to a college where his teacher was a guest speaker that he met Professor Lorrimor. They hit it off immediately, the professor's theories on Intermediary Incomplete Transmogrifications fascinated the young elf. They talked on and off for the entire week of the conference, and Calon wrote to the professor with questions and details of his studies for the next couple of years. Shortly after he finished his apprenticeship (and finally worked off the last of the cost of his studies) he returned to find his parents had gotten involved in an attempt by a small group of elves to get into Sevenarches. They were betrayed, however, and the Oakstewards were waiting for them. It was decided by Mayor Silkenlock that an example had to be made in order to keep anything like this from happening again. The entire group was sentenced to death, along with anyone connected with them. Calon barely made it out of the region, and he still has a price on his head. When Calon fled the River Kingdoms, he journeyed to his mentor in Ustalav. Unfortunately, he has arrived only to discover that Professor Lorrimer has passed on. He still feels disgrace and sorrow over his abandonment of his parents and the others. He is not even sure if they have been executed or not, but he hopes to someday have the power (and courage) to return and find out. |
