War for the Crown Player’s Guide?

War for the Crown

As the title said, is there one? My friend got War of the crown today and I go to find the player's guide but have had no luck finding it. I thought maybe for some reason they didn't make one but then I see a note in the book that says "The campaign traits detailed in the War for the Crown Player’s Guide, available online for free at paizo.com".

So anyone have any idea where is't been hidden?

It got delayed and isn't out quite yet. [LINK]

Cool. Seems odd to have it come out AFTER the AP starts but that's fine. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't hidden like the FAQs was. Thanks for the help. :)

A few times in the past it was probably best to wait until all six books were out before starting the AP (Carrion Crown, for example, is one the GM should probably read all the way through before starting) so it might not be the worst thing if people wait to start of this one.

Can we PLEASE, please, please get an updated status on where the guide is at? Pretty pretty please? Yes I know, I'm sad, but sometimes begging and pleading in a pathetic way can pan out. :)

What difference will it make? It's out when it's out.

If you got a game coming up, maybe just have a one-shot game as a back-up instead?

It would be nice if they at least posted/printed the traits someplace: from what I understand, there are hooks in the book from those in the adventure which makes running it untenable so it really make me wonder why the adventure wasn't pushed back too. It'd be one thing if the traits weren't intertwined into the adventure but that isn't the case so if you're going to have to wait to use it anyway...

I'm in no hurry.

It really only affects one skill challenge, and it's not too difficult to infer what skills would be helpful from the challenge itself. Even if PCs didn't pick up the traits the challenge is far from impossible and you can just ask the PCs what skills they are best at and tailor the challenge to the PCs.

Neither am I but I expect that there are some that are and they'll be disappointed when they find that the instructions on the adventure aren't correct: "available online for free at paizo.com"...

I'll take your word as I'm not running it so I didn't read it in depth. I just find it strange that if the adventure directly references them that they aren't available. That and it's hard to tell how useful/needed the traits benefits are past the skill challenge you mentioned. If I was running it, I'd be uncomfortable starting without them and the guide.

For myself, I started this thread because the adventure came out and was curious about the set-up so I went looking for the players guide right after the site got updated and thought I was missing something as I've never run into this situation before.

But it will be accurate next week though...

The books last forever, the narrow window between release date and when this Free Player's Guide will be a couple of days at most. It's barely a problem.

Considering how terribly the flu affected the West Coast this year, I'm more then willing to cut them some slack.

Get well soon Paizo!

Is that when it comes out? I hadn't heard a date given.

If that's so then it would have been fine to hold back the AP until the guide was ready as it's a "narrow window" and "barely a problem". I have no issue with a product being delayed: I just find it curious/odd that a companion/linked book is and the other isn't. For me, if it's only a "a couple of days at most", I'd have prefered they come out together.

West coast, east coast, no coast... pretty much everywhere but hawaii. ;)

Oh, as I said above I'm not blaming anyone, just questioning putting out one without the other. Maybe I'm the only one that thinks it odd. *shrug*

You might not have realized this but the west coast (and especially the Pacific Northwest) got hammered worse than everywhere else with the flu this year.

So much so in fact, this is the first winter I can remember that I was glad I wasn't still living in Seattle.

So yes, I'm just glad they're all alive at Paizo. :-)

Anyone else think it's odd we've heard no official update on the status of the player's guide in a while?

They gave an update on Wednesday.

I'd rather they get it done then give us updates on how far along they are.

My guess is that the people responsible for putting up the Player's Guide are the same people who are trying to get the website in order. No point in making a free download available when people are having trouble accessing downloads and purchasing products.

??? I'm looking at the CDC map right now and the east coast from maine to florida is all widespread while the west coast has oregon as only local reports of flu... Even Puerto Rico and alaska are widespread. So as far as reporting goes, the Pacific Northwest is in a better place than most of the US. The US Virgin Islands are about the only place without flu issues this year, though they are still recovering from the hurricane.

Well....actually we have.

I know it's easy to get excited for something....we all do it....but they have explained why it's late....and it will come out when they think it's ready.

This isn't "life or death"......patience.....
Give them the time to get it the way they want it :P

Reasonable personal preference, but the AP book 1 had a formal release date and payment was involved; holding it back would mean telling not just individual pre-orderers but also physical stores that they'd have to suck it up and wait. Paizo could get in a lot more trouble delaying the AP than a free supplement with no guaranteed release date, even an important one.

From me and my circle of friends and family, similar things can be said in the east coast, the south and the middle of the country [I don't know anyone on the west coast]. PA, GA, SC, NY, TX, CO... it's been a bad flu season just about everywhere.

It's not like they don't push back items: for instance, look at Construct Builder's Guidebook. Secondly, it can't be an unknown issue going in that there was a delay before we get to the "guaranteed release date" so I question that date if they are unsure everything needed for the release was going to be available. Thirdly, it just seems backwards that background material isn't finished when the material built on it is... I must admit I'm curious what series of events lead to this issue.

But yes, you could chock it up to personal preference: I prefer an item ready to go vs one that requires patching or isn't ready to go when I get it.

I think it's mostly what Joana said at this point.

So, another week and still no players guide.

It is almost like they have other stuff to do than make something for free... The nerve of them.

How do you know it's not out yet.

I haven't been able to find the Paizo Blog since they reorganized things.

Just click on Paizo. Links to the latest four (?) blogs are back on the front page.

EDIT: Or here's a direct link to bookmark until they get everything back to being one click away from any page. And here's the store blog, while I'm at it.

There is a certain irony that one major factor in the delay is almost certainly the fact that Paizo is spending a great deal of time on something that ...

They'll be giving out for free

Pathfinder 2.0 Playtest Edition.

But to imply that the Players Guide is something that Paizo gives us out of a sense of charity isn't true. The Player's Guides are seen as essential parts of an Adventure Path. They very actively help sales.

That said, while I'm definitely impatient for it to come out its hardly the end of the world that it hasn't. But the lack IS delaying games from starting.

I've never heard of them not including player's guides with the AP, especially as they're needed the most at the beginning of the path, usually include campaign-specific traits that are most relevant at the beginning of the path, and set up a lot of player expectations.

Did they include something similar in the AP itself or something? Otherwise, it seems like a pretty big ball to drop with respect to their subscribers.

It’s happened before (though not this late, if memory serves). They got stymied by staff illness. That’s difficult to guard against with such a small, specialised team.

Ahh, that's terrible. : ( Let's err on the side of not dying. Too many horrible things happening this flu season.

Still nothing, not even an ETA or a status update. If Paizo is choosing not to do one at all, at least a word of warning would be nice.

Here is the most recent official word on it that I'm aware of:

The "next couple of weeks" would be March 19th-ish. I hope Daigle isn't disappointed.

Tough choice here -- this thread has the more descriptive title, but the other thread about this has more posts.
