What deity would you worship if you lived in Golarion?

I wish Talos from Forgotten Realms was an option. Gozreh doesn't really equate.

I'd say Torag for my wanting to protect people.

Dark Archive

I'd move to Rahadoum and become an alchemist.

I would say Sarenrae; I appreciate the idea that anyone can be good, and that by peaceful and friendly action we can all be happy.
(Yes yes, I know, lame.)

Redemption as a theme is meaningful for me too, as is hope to resist a dark and scary future, and make it bright.

I believe I would give honor to Sarenrae, Erastil, and Desna, as they all promote values and concerns near to my heart.

Those three and Shelyn would be up there, yeah.

I suspect that I would be caught somewhere in the rift between Shelyn and Naderi.

Cayden Cailean or Shelyn. Maybe both?

If I lived in Golarion as a native, I'd be so different from the person I am now, that the question wouldn't make any sense. The person I am now is a product of a culture/nation/time combination which simply does not exist there.

If you'd talk about transplanting the person I am NOW, to the Golarion of 4716, any choice I'd made about gods would be weighted down by my American-bred cynicism, which would make it also meaningless.

Cough. Despondently hands out a ragged pamphlet about Groetus, then limps away, muttering about The End.

Shelyn, most likely, with some respect to Desna and Calistria, for freedom and individuality that they blend. Plus lust, I'll admit. I'd probably get back into pottery again and be a merely average potter...but that's how it goes.

But man, do I miss Sune of FR. The one written of in their manuals and such, not the insane, lustful hedonists that were the only ones I ever saw written about in modules/literature.

Off-topic FR:
Wait... was that supposed to be Sharess...? ;)

(I know that actually feeds into your point. I just really like FR, too.)

Iomedae and Shelyn.

Yes, at the same time.

EDIT: I just realized that came out dirtier than I expected.

I am okay with this.

I would most likely worship three gods, Cayden Cailean, Sarenrae, and Desna while also paying homage to Shelyn, Pharasma, Milani, and maybe Arshea. Though I think this might change depending on where I grew up and where I live.

As my campaign is set in Lastwall (with heavy cross over with Cheliax) it would either be Iomedae or Asmodeus. I'm a very "lawful" person in the honorable, keep your word, defend your own people / family, etc sorta way, but good and evil can get pretty fuzzy for me. LN by nature, so worship could go either way.

Considering that I'm a magician IRL, and sort of obsessed with the study of the confidence game, the art of theiving, and cheating at various games, someone with a heavy trickery focus would be ideal. Also, I love puns, riddles, language tricks, etc. So someone involving languages as well. Also, I love to sing and almost all forms of performance art, so definitely someone along those lines. Off the top of my head, I can't really think of any particular gods or goddesses in cannon for Golarion that fit all of that (but I bet with a bit more research I can find some). Also, I consider myself CG at heart, but my actions are largely NG, so a CG deity would be preferred, however a CN would be acceptable. Based solely off the ones that come to mind, and the lore which I can recall, I'd say Sun Wukong would be awesome!

This is the bard class. No archetype required.

Shelyn for the arts; Nivi Rhombodazzle for the gambling/cheating (her holy symbol is a 6-sided die with 7 dots on one face)

Totally agree with Purple Dragon Knight, you [@ psychie] just perfectly described a Bard.

I almost wish I could pick Desna. In the future of Golarion she's going to be amazing, as the civilizations there reach out into space with their improving magic and science. She's like the Starfleet Goddess, protector/explorer of the universe.

Sarenrae is probably the only major God I could worship myself. I respect how she rose from a simple Angel to the most powerful God in combat(she was the deciding blow against Rovogug), and while I might not be as forgiving and generous, I sure would like to be. NG is the best alignment, and all she asks in worship is that I make the world a better place.

Shelyn is a close one, I consider myself an artist, and I like her backstory, but there's too much to be done on Golarion right now, you can't just appreciate love and beauty and let the rest fall where it may. (plus without computers, electronics, or modern materials, most of my art skills are going to be unusable).

But the real answer is Zohls, the Empyreal Lord of Truth. As a researcher, the pursuit of truth, untangling of puzzles, and scientific experimentation is basically how I spend all my time. And even off work, I frantically read everything I can get my hands on, no matter the subject.

When I get hit by that Plane Shift, my first act will be a prayer to Zohls asking her to make me a cleric.

Apsu, Abadar, Gozhreh, Calistra, Rovgaug, or one of the Eldest, probably the Green Lady. Fairies and dragons are two of my favorite fantasy monsters, and I love destruction to create something new in order. Law and order are a fair part of what I do, but you need a good amount of chaos tolerance to work in IT. Plus being a fey druid would be pretty slick in comparison to the humdrum existence we have today.

Thinking of Apsu... maybe I'd find a particular great wyrm brass dragon and try to convince it to achieve apotheosis, just so there's a CG dragon god to worship. While it's out of date, the original fluff for the brass dragon was amazing, and the gregarious socialite 'good guy of the party' as a dragon god would be so badass.

Cayden Cailean

Yes being the God of Drunken Heroes is an awesome thing, but you forget what else he stands for. He is the God of Freedom, he fights against slavery, tyranny and oppression. He fights for what is right not simply because someone says it is, or because of tradition, but simply because it is right.

Plus I can be drunk off my ass while doing serving him :D

I'd probably be a polytheist, with a primary focus on Cayden Cailean, Calistria, Shelyn, and Ghenshau.

Of the core 20 I'd absolutely go with Shelyn; no question. She represents the things that make life worth living, and is the deity who comes closest to my vision of what absolute good should be like (sorry Sarenrae). And as much as other churches would like to say otherwise, she and her followers are no slouches when it comes to defending the things they cherish.

That said, if we're looking at the setting as a whole, I'd go with Arshea all the way. I'm gay, and into some pretty kinky stuff, and a lot of my friends are trans or otherwise gender-nonconforming. For me, Arshea combines the best of Calistria's sex-positivity, Shelyn's dedication to love and beauty, and Cayden Cailean's devotion to freedom and self-determination. Plus, androgynous angels are sexy. >_>

I'd probably be a polytheist as well.
Erastil since I've always had a strong sense of community and responsibility.
Irori since the martial arts have become a significant portion of my life.
Sheylin since my personal DMing can always use more artistic flair.
Brigh since the job that makes me money is repairing tools.
Cayden Cailin for that beer at the end of the day when I'm done calling on the rest of the pantheon.

Probably Sarenae, Korada, or Andoletta because I like their areas of concern. Or Nethys cause magic is just that awesome.

(I think I'm NG so all three of them are within one step of my alignment).

Abadar, as a lawyer, paying homage to Zohls.
Desna, as a traveler.
Shelyn, as an artist.
Irori, in search of self-perfection.
Apsu, as a dragon fan.
Shyka, as a fey lover.

I would probably worship Abadar and Zohls as a LN inquisitor or cleric, as I'm a lawyer. I would also respect Irori, for he is self-perfection itself.
But, secretly, I would pay homage to Shyka, in search for reincarnation and time manipulation.

Being a writer and musician and highly sentimental, I would be all about Shaelyn. I wish I could fall in with Sarenrae but I can't. Because while I love everything about her, I hate the sun.

Probably Cayden Cailean or Milani. Personal liberty and defending that of others (even the a&%$!~!s) has always been something that has called to be. Plus, Cayden's pretty much the god of goodbros.

My personal life would be a wonderful 70%-30% mix between Shelyn-Arshea, and my work life would be Sarenrae all the way.

Art, music, love, intimacy, like others have mentioned these are the things that (in my opinion) make life worth living. Whenever I was not enjoying/creating these wonders I would be using any ability I had to help those who could not help themselves, and help those fallen to darkness to see the light again.

Knowing someone's struggles, and helping them through them, is something both Shelyn and Sarenrae support. Even if I couldn't be either of their cleric, I would be a champion for both of their causes.

I must admit, in the dark hours before sleep my mind would wander to poor Naderi, and the ever looming Groetus, but never for too long. I would remind myself of the love of Shelyn and the hope Sarenrae's light brings, and I would dream sweet Desnan dreams.

Cayden Cailean, without a doubt. He'd be right in my wheelhouse.

With that said, I'd show some love to Desna and Sarenrae, to a lesser extent.

It's very tempting to say Desna or Shelyn. I can appreciate freedom, art, beauty, love, etc. But as someone who tends to be shut away, tinkering with gadgets, I'd probably end up worshipping Brigh.

Then again, I never was very good at studying or taking notes...

Considering that on Golarion, one can find direct evidence of the hand of the gods and that morality is a little less loose on account of someone actually deciding what is or is not okay...my reasons for not worshipping IRL sort of disappear. I'd probably end up worshipping Shelyn. I don't have much artistic talent, but I dig her whole shtick. In fact, if such a thing were relevant, I might even become a priest of her's. Maybe write poetry, or clean the temple. Or something.

After looking at my current skill set and what I might be able to do if I lived on golarion (and assuming I had a way to deal with my ADD. Is there a spell that could make exact copies of non-magical medications?), I think I would eventually worship Abadar as my primary deity. This is not driven by the deity whose ideals I agree with as much as a sanity requirement.

I have a mathematics degree with a minor in business and almost all my work experience is in business. The only thing I could do is be an accountant, and preying to Abadar for assistance in manually entering the numbers correctly is the only way I would make enough money to survive. I would probably celebrate other gods in my spare time, if I had any.

Unless it turns out that being magically transported to golarion also gave me magic powers or improved my physique enough to expand my employment options. At that point, I'd have to do some serious soul searching and really think about which means the most to me instead of which I think is the most awesome or interesting.

Immonhiel

If we're assuming I get ported to Golarion as is, then I would worship multiple deities, appealling to different ones for different reasons.

However, if my person would get cartoon-ified before moving to Golarion, I would pay hommage to Abadar and worship Shelyn.

If I were to be teleported to Golarion, with my current skills and knowledge?

I'm a Mechanical Engineer working on renewable energies, and a weaponsmith and marksman by hobby and training.

I'd be on my way to Alkenstar on the double, whnere I would be a LN worshipper of Malthus.

Artifice needs a human god.

If I were on Golarion, who would I worship...

I have an unhealthy fascination with the Dark Tapestry, the Shadow Plane, Abaddon, The Abyss, and anything beyond the outer sphere. I've a fondness for all the fiendish races, with Qlippoth and Kyton being my favorite. My favorite deities/demigods are: Sifkesh, Nocticula, Yog-Sothoth (and other tapestry divinities), and Zon-Kuthon. I also have a periodic interest in the Undead (most often Devourers and Nightshades), Aberrations, Dragons..

But I haven't a clue who I would actually worship. Any deities that would be remotely ok with such interests, often flip-flopping around between them, in someone who honestly doesn't actually want to harm anyone?
