Dawnstar might be awkward if you want comic accuracy - one of her species was dating Wynn a couple seasons back. The bumpy forehead blonde didn't look much like an Anasazi.

Dark Archive

Moving Ralph from the Flash over to Legends would be neat, he does indeed seem to get lost in the crowd over on that show.

Having someone from the future or the past on the ship would indeed make sense, and a Legionnaire would indeed be cool, since they've got someone from Arrow (Sara, Ray) and someone from the Flash (Mick), so it would be cool to tie into Supergirl a bit more (and it wouldn't necessarily have to be a Legionnaire we've seen before, like Imra or Mon-El, but could be someone selected to not cost a ton in SFX, like Shadow Lass (ooh, our FX budget is 'turn off the lights and film a bunch of action sounds happening in the dark, and then the lights come up and she's standing surrounded by extras pretending to be unconscious! The actress doesn't even need to be able to pretend-fight!').

Then again, the other shows do have a plethora of abandoned side-characters who could use new homes, like Roy Harper or Ragman or the grown up future kids of Oliver and Felicity and Bronze Tiger (I strangely liked their future storyline this season more than the storyline set in the present...) from Arrow, or Winn, or Cisco, or some alternate timeline version of Eddie Thawne or Ronnie Raymond (both of whom could well be alive, post-Flashpoint, but *nobody cared to check*) or whomever.

Set,

The trouble with at least Ragman is the fact his magic rags are kind of gone... But otherwise I fully support something like Shadow Lass (though I'd rather have Phantom Girl to be honest...)

I think we all expected Tyler Hoechlin to show up as Supes in the upcoming Crisis crossover, but would you believe who else is putting the tights and cape back on? (spoiler warning)

Yes I was a little surprised...but I'm also sort of expecting

Spoiler:
Kingdom Come Superman

Finally, some good news from SDCC. Underwhelmed otherwise.

Green,

You mean by the other reveals or about the fact Crisis doesn't seem...epic?

Other reveals. A lot of franchises I'm not excited about.

So it looks like Crisis was indeed much like it's 1985 predecessor but also unlike it in that there's still a multiverse.

Also we now have Gleek. So there's that...

lmao

Sargon the Sorcerer

Well I guess they needed comic relief while they all adjusted to the new status quo of a single Earth...

But again folks, a Gleek AND the Super Friends theme music. Totally worth it.

Tonight's episode was one easily of the worst of the series. The one possible bright spot was the partial triggering of Nate's pre-Crisis memories. We'll see what they do with that.

Damon,

I don't think it's was Pre-Crisis so much as "Pre-Zari's disappearance." But yeah, I wasn't too much into this episode probably because it feels...rehashed in some ways.

I was hoping you were wrong. I, who has generally had a lot of patience with this series because I love its zaniness, had to stop watching halfway through. I won't comment further though, as I haven't seen the whole thing.

But it looks like Mona and Gary, the writers' creepy self-insert sociopathic Mary Sues, will remain cast regulars, and I think because of that, I am out. My love for Sara might keep me around a little longer, but I am not sure I can take it.

Now, if they moved Sara to the new Canaries series and Mia to Legends, I'd be all set. I'd just watch Canaries.

ETA: I just read Mona leaves? Okay, I might have to try watching the ep again.

DQ, when I watched it last night and Mona left my first thought was "DQ is going to be SOOOOO happy." My second though was "I am soooo happy" :)

Yeah I don't think Mona will be a main cast member. I do think though we might be stuck with Gary for a bit longer..at least until Constantine figures out what to do with him.

(Constantine casts a spell. A big fiery circle appears.)

Constantine "Ey, Gary, is that a portal to hell or a disintegrator, ye think?"

(Gary steps closer and peers at it. Constantine pushes him in.)

Rory "Was it a portal to hell or a disintegrator?"

Constantine "Oh, who cares? Fancy a brew?"

Scene.

That sounds totally in character for Constantine and also a good way to solve the Gary problem.

Ok, did their captain or the futuristic clone woman disappear into a shaft of light? Who did will greatly affect my theories.

I'm pretty sure Sara went poof...but I could be wrong.

Sara was clearly beamed up.
I want to point out a later Atom is cannon, I think I still have the comic books. Weather he will join the JLA or legends is up in the air.

You mean Ryan Choi? Yeah he's cannon since he was in Crisis. But we'll see where he lands as more CW shows start back up.

Not a lot (or any) talk about the current season, but I really liked the last episode, Fixed Point. It had all the fun wackiness I've come to expect from LoT, plus a pretty cool time travel plot. While this season overall has been a bit hit or miss (think they were stranded too long at the beginning), I like that they've really leaned back into time travel as the main plot rather than magic or aliens, etc.

Loved the season finale, overall a good season, but not my favorite. And the set up and shake up for next season looks like a lot of fun. They finally got the approval from DC to use

Spoiler:
BOOSTER GOLD!
and they'll be a full time cast member it seems.

Unfortunately, no word yet on a renewal, but hoping they get it.

CW might be holding off on renewal until they clear TV waivers...IE the rumors of a buy out either come to pass or no.

...Aaaaannnddd I was wrong... Looks like CW is truly cleaning house.

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

Very sad about this one - Legends was still going strong, and was looking forward to Booster Gold so much and what looks like a return to time cops style stories from the earlier seasons.

Yeah well. I wasn't expecting this...but at the same time, Joel, I'm not that surprised given CW seems ready to jettison shows that the new management doesn't consider 'profitable'.

*pours one out* At least they got 8 seasons, with a lot of time to explore the premise. I loved this show that embraced its ridiculousness and just had incredible fun with superheroes, and they did probably some of the best character driven work, even if some choices in characters and characterization nearly drove me away from watching the show entirely (yes, I do mean you, Gary).

Given the first season was only tolerable with some bright spots, it was amazing how the show grew. Bummer that it gets cancelled as they FINALLY got Booster Gold, but they hopefully can be proud they went as far as they did.

Very few CW shows are profitable in the traditional sense; my understanding is they aimed for ad revenue from app use. Most of the superhero shows got lousy ratings compared to most other primetime offerings. To offer a comparison, people often cite ABC's Agent Carter as being cancelled for low ratings, and yet that show's lowest ratings were better (notably in some cases) than the best of many of the CW shows, or equal (the last time I did the math, which was a few years ago) to the average of Flash and Arrow (which tended to have the highest ratings of all the shows the last time I looked). CW used different metrics than ratings to decide how they were going to take something. I don't know if new management means a more traditional approach or if they are just clearing the slate for new opportunities.

I'm pretty sure, DQ, the new management is using the old metrics because they don't strike me as the brightest bulbs.

Not sure if this has to do with selling CW, or more to do with the older Arrowverse shows had streaming deals with Netflix, while the newer ones they can stream on HBO Max. Superman & Lois, Naomi and Stargirl stream on HBO Max, everything else is in the Netflix deal. So, shows which were decent ratings, but not great, and streamed on Netflix became less attractive.

Hopefully they'll be able to have the Legends and Booster Gold in Flash season 9 a bit.

I honestly think this has less to do with streaming and more to do with ad buys. Ads run the world.

That's what the cheaper (or even free) ad-supported tier for streaming services is for!

I enjoyed LoT but I won't shed a tear if it's gone for good. After a mediocre start it really picked up, but the last couple of seasons it was spiraling down. Only the charisma of the cast kept it chugging along. On the bright side, no more Gary.

Not sure that's entirely true, Joel

Bjorn,

I was just hoping we'd finally do some time travel...again.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I just wish we'd get time travel shows that didn't always end up in basically modern times, mostly in the US or parts of the world which look indistinguishable from the US.

Many alien planets looking suspiciously like the same gravel pit in 70s England is fine.

Since no sale has been finalized yet, there is no new management. It's the same group.

For those who want another season, there's a petition for that. Not thinking this one has a huge chance of success, but can't really hurt.

Even IF that's true it's still clear who is in control. And it's not the CW, dirtypool. I mean it's like when you're under contract for a home. THAT house is yours, EVEN IF you don't legally own it YET.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

There hasn't been any news since Nextar began prepping to make a bid, back in February. It's not "under contract" until an official offer is made.

Could you maybe once google something before speculating wildly and getting salty when someone points out that your speculation has no basis in reality?

Even IF there was a secret bid that was secretly accepted, the analogy of buying a house is wrong in both how corporate changeovers happen and how houses are purchased.

While under contract there are any number of things that could result in you NOT getting that house, and it remains the prior owners home until paperwork is finalized - and as for corporate structures the old team remains in place until the new owner officially takes over. In many cases that leadership team remains in place in an interim capacity until the new owner makes changes (as just happened with WB Discovery.)
