Yup. They could have used the Pre-Greek pronunciation Eset. Maybe that will come to them eventually. Or they'll just ignore her code name like White Canary, Heatwave, or Citizen Steel.

I'm ok without the Citizen steel nickname. Also heatwave doesn't fit rory as well as it used to imo. we will just go with the drunken pyro from now on.

Yeah, seems easy enough. When was the last time Steel was called Steel? Or Heatwave, Heatwave? The twelfth of never? They can use this character for years without saying 'Isis,' so it's all good.

I think they wanted Zari/Isis since they were doing a "magical necklace" theme and she's a known (if somewhat obscure, depending on your age) DC hero with a magical necklace.

I agree that since no one actually ever seems to go by their superhero name, it doesn't really matter. Even Ray, who was really at his inception into being "the Atom," rarely calls himself the Atom anymore. (I like using "Eset" though, as long as no one confuses it for "Set" [no offense, Set. ;) ] as those are very different gods.)

They could always say that one of Zari's predecessors went by "Isis."

I think the character has actually contributed well to a lot of this season, but oddly it's more been her hacking skills than superheroics. Given they spent a lot of time having her learn how to get along with the team, I presume she's going to be around for a bit. I hope we do see more of her as I like the character and the actress.

I also really like Wally as a member of the Legends, and the show and its characters certainly treats him with far more respect than the Flash did, both meta-wise and story-wise.

I'm gonna miss this show while it's off for the season. I'm glad to get back to Supergirl, but I want both, dammit!

Ok kind of loved that last episode.

This show is just crazy fun.

Glory unto the Blue God

Can't wait for next season (still hoping for Booster Gold to show up)

Yeah I did not see that coming that is for sure. My GF who doesn't watch walking in right at the big fight and just looked at me like WTF are you watching. I had no discernible answer. I just shrugged and said look even I'm not sure but I really like show.

It was shades of Ghostbusters.

Yep. So much so that for about a tenth of a second I thought "no way...are they really going to bring in the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man? Too many jumped sharks!"

But even after dismissing that, I never saw Beebo coming. It was cool.

Beebo was an unusual choice, but I kept waiting for them do Voltron myself.

Just go full ready player one eh?

The title gave Beebo away. The Voltron references were there to throw us off. Besides, actually showing Voltron would have been a licensing issue.

I doubt it would have been much of one given that WB has more money than some. But who knows...

In any case, Beebo won, the Legends now have to fight demons and John Constantine will be see for all of next season.

.... well at least they've now fully acknowledged most episodes of LoT are acid trips.

I love this show. All these other superheroes with their constipated sadfaces over how hard it is to be a hero, and the Legends are like, BRB, fighting evil rainbow-snot hucking unicorns.

Strong start to the season. More Constantine is always good.
The unicorn was great. Not quite as great as Stross' but still great.

Honestly? I was bored by this until the end and of course the high point of having John Constantine be John Constantine. Mostly I keep wondering who the bad guy is...and why I should care about ANY of them besides John. I mean Ava and Sara are cute, sure...but otherwise I could do without this lack of an all-star team.

The whole point of Legends is they're all misfits. They're sort of a slightly more heroic Secret Six. This ain't the show to watch for All-Stars.

I love this show and the team--and I am VERY pleased about the starting lineup; I still miss Jax and I'm still not super keen on Nate, but these guys are working well for me. Love Zuri, love Mick, love Ray, love Sara, and of course John is entertaining. But I love gray-morality misfits doing whacky shenanigans things. If you don't it's probably not the show for you.

Am I the only one who's expecting Gary's nipple to be a plot point later in the season? You can do some serious sympathetic magic with a body part from someone.

I'm also morbidly curious if they'll show him shirtless and missing it after healing.

DQ,

I'm okay with the morally grey IF they had some villains to fight instead of monster and/or mistake of the week.

And yes Joel, it's just you...

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Given how poorly they handled Vandal Savage and how tiresome even the Damien Darkh plot went, and how tired I am of grand dramatic story arcs that are often poorly handled or overplayed, I am actually entirely here for monster of the week. If I wanna watch a complex villain plot going on over the course of a superhero series, that's what Marvel Netflix is for. (And even they are hit or miss with that; see also: the Hand.)

As it is, I think the most consistent, complex, interestingly unpredictable villain on the CW is Sin Rostro on Jane the Virgin. So yeah, not what I'm looking for here.

(Okay, and Tobias Whale on Black Lightning, but Black Lightning is the positive exception to every CW superhero rule.)

I am not saying you shouldn't want what you want, I'm just saying you might be in the wrong place for what you are looking for.

But that said, I am *sure* there will be a central villain emerging (idk, Etrigan? I'd suggest Nora Darkh, but it seems like they're aiming for gray area with her) over this storyline. They're just establishing the situation. I'm not going to accuse the show of "thing-of-the-week" syndrome after a single episode.

As for Gary's nipple, it is now only so much rainbow colored unicorn poop, so no, I'm hoping it won't reappear. I'm sure he might try to milk the badassery of having a scar though. I don't think they'll be graphic like that, however--again, this is not Marvel Netflix.

DQ,

The Hand plot in Netflix needed someone like Brudabaker writing it to make it more interesting. I think.

Etrigan eh? Well not a bad thought but honestly I'd prefer some thing more like the Demons Three or even Neron. But that's me.

The problem with the Vandal Savage plot in Legends was the fact it was a TIME Travel show in which the main villain DIDN'T do any time travel. That's why I liked the Legion of Doom. (Admittedly they could have used Grodd more...but eh.) The thing with Damien was hit or miss but way better than Vandal's plot.

Also the best complex villain for me now is clearly MCU Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin.

Sovereign Court

Darkh was always such a gem.

He was better than his comic self some times...

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Agreed that Darkh was better than Vandal's plot--and moreover, Darkh was more interesting and better performed as a character than Vandal, who seemed little more than Immortal Brian Blessed. I didn't always like how they handled his plots/story but the performance was good and he was an interesting, complex character.

Neron may make more sense than Etrigan. That was just the first DC demon that came to mind.

(Also agree Fisk is amazing.)

Tonight was fun, I thought. I liked the fairy-godmother-as-villain idea. And of course that she preferred Hell to helping Constantine... well, whatever's after him must be a pretty Big Bad.

I liked Nate's plot better than I thought I would and I am glad he is actually off the Waverider a little bit (Ray's sad puppy face made me sad though).

Did they let the leader of the puritan village burn at the stake?

I know they told Joan to get the heck out of Dodge, but seems like they would have worked harder to make her "disappear" if they didn't want to screw up the timeline too much.

The "monsters" this season so far are just to funny.

Yeah I'm not a fan of funny monsters, though I had hoped when they were dealing with Fairies, there would be more...classic kind. You know like in that one, The Hallow, from 2015. That was great fairy stuff.

Neron is one choice, but there's always classic Trigon.

IDK, I find a beautiful, seemingly pleasant fairy godmother who then summons crows to peck your enemies' eyes out and can cause a whole town to spontaneously combust, all so she can slowly drain the hope out of a child, to be pretty dark and "classic evil fairy."

(And of course that's also why she wouldn't serve Constantine. He has no hope to devour.)

I know full well from real life the true monsters are usually beautiful to behold... at first.

DeathQuaker wrote:

Sadly, no. Brian Blessed would at least have hammed it up and been memorably so-bad-he's-good. Vandal just left a small, gray blob in my memory of the first season.

Wouldn't Nergal make more sense for the demon coming after Con-Job? Either him or the First of the Fallen (though IIRC they didn't run with that version in the character in Constantine).

Bjorn,

I don't know enough about DC fiends to make an accurate guess, but sure.

DQ,

Maybe I'm just used to seeing things like Vilderavn and Whisperer as kind of evil type fey, rather than wish granting and singing fairy godmothers...

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

A singing fairy godmother who drains hope from children and makes people spontaneously combust.

Yes, creatures can also obviously be monsters from the get go, but those ones are much less scary to me, personally.

Thomas, it's okay if it doesn't appeal to you. I'm just noting that the whole context needs to be taken in for consideration.

Bjorn, you make a point about Blessed.

Maybe it's ALL the DC demons!!

Nergal was the one who tricked John into sending Astra to hell in his first true magic f&*@-up - the Newcastle incident that haunted John for years.
Also did a nasty number on him a couple of times later throughout the Hellblazer series. In the comics Nergal gave John some of his blood, and if something similar happened Arrowverse JC it could explain John's convulsions at the end of Ep.1.

The First of the Fallen is basically Satan, introduced because they needed a ruler in Hell after Gaiman had Lucifer leave in Sandman: Season of Mists. Constantine humiliated tFotF a couple of times and became tFotF's Enemy Number 1. More hated by Satan and Hell than Jesus. IIRC they didn't have this version of Satan in the show, so I don't consider it a particularly likely possibility for the identity of the enemy coming after John, but it would be cool.

DQ,

Fair. I guess I have different tastes is all.

Bjorn,

I know who they are. I just didn't feel or see the reasoning since they'd have to be in the same sort of "cage" that Mallus was in. Note I said same SORT, not same cage.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

1 person marked this as a favorite.

And that's just fine. :)

My take on the "release" of the creatures was more that the dimensional energy released upon destroying Mallus created a supernatural rift, than they were trapped in the same way. IDK though.

Or maybe Constantine is just attracting bad things.

Oh I'm positive Constantine does that anyway, rift or no rift. The man is a walking magnet for dark magic crap.

Now that was a good episode. Punk time, QE2 flashing, Johnny-boy's parental history, all the references and jokes, magical carnivorous plants, and giving mohawks to corgis.
And in the brief flashback we got a hint at who's coming after Constantine. I think it is Manny, which makes a lot of sense. It would tie into his sadly cancelled show, giving us some form of closure for that story, and it's not something they have to introduce from the comics.

And it looks like they've gotten another member for the team. Not entirely convinced they should have gone with the Amaya look for her, but I'm willing to be convinced.

Bjorn,

From what I understand, they (the show writers and/or producers) wanted to bring Maisie back in some fashion, but couldn't as Amaya. (Because story reasons..and time travel.)

We'll see how that goes.

What I did like was more Constantine, since he's pretty much the guy I expect to do things that go against the grain. Him and Rory going at it are pretty great.

Manny might be that, but right now all we know for sure is that whatever other magic creatures they fight, I truly hope Swamp Thing makes an appearance. :p ;)

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Yeah, seeing Constantine get up Mick's nose by being an even bigger more abrasive jerk is priceless.

Finally caught up.

1) I loved Mick (Dominic Purcell) being on edge about Brits.
2) Certainly, Nate's father has never gone Back to the Future. ;)
3) I was wondering how long it would take Nate to remember he can reveal his metahuman powers without violating anyone else's secrets. Hank Heywood certainly knew his father was Commander Steel of the Justice Society of America.
4) Did I see Manny in that set of flashing images Constantine saw? Might we finally get some resolution to the Rising Darkness - despite the fact the animated short clearly indicates this is an alternate universe. (It repeats a plot from his show, only altering personal history the Chandler family.)
5) Team seems a little small this season.
6) Gideon could have easily replicated the gold necklace. Do they really just want to avoid referencing her comic book identity?
6a) Speaking of, Gideon replicates them currency in other time periods. Why can't they - specifically Nate - replicate enough to have walking around money in the present?
7) With access to the Time Bureau, and other forms of time travel, why do they even need the Waverider any more?

5) They did just add a new team member in the resolution of the last episode.

6) Having a mobile base which can act as a high powered computer, jail, communications center and hideout is pretty useful when you're running an operation. Popping back to the present each time they need something like that isn't always as useful (and couldn't work to patch their communications together while on a mission).

Okay, the casting director who found those two girls to play tween-Sara and tween-Ava is extraordinarily skilled. They were spot on.

I loved watching Ray be in his element at camp. Constantine had some great moments. Looking forward to our shapeshifter chick getting in with the team (what's her name?).

Solid episode all around.

Oh, and poor, poor dear Nora....

My comments:

1) I LOVED how this episode not only referenced Swamp Thing, but also gave us an indirect comment that Earth-1 CLEARLY has Swamp Thing in it.

2) Yes the tween Sara and Ava were great. But I also loved how the writers took a little shot of the bow with an old Supernatural episode and ran with it.

3) John Constantine continues to be the reason I want to keep watching, if only because he proves the best at being both unloveable and yet so endearing at the same time.

As for the shapeshifter with Amaya's face, Charlie...not sure how I feel about her but eh. It's not the worst addition. (Looking at you, Hawkman!)

Oh and the FX on this were good too.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hawkman was Shakespearian compared to Vandal Savage.

Another good episode. Dang, they really have been doing well this season, haven't they?
Kaiju film and screaming Japanese running from said monster, the triple breasted whore of Eroticon Six heroine of Rory's dreams who he gets to shag, nightmare Thanksgiving with Nate's family and Gary almost being useful.
Oh, and Ray's optimism and nice-guy nature was rewarded for a change. I'm glad to see that, since he's my fave Legend.

Ray finally gets rewarded but doesn't. Sad. But yeah cool that they brought in a kaiju and now they may have inadvertently created the KING of all Monsters. :)

Mostly what I think is interesting is this project Hades that Nate's dad talked about. Monsters like Baba Yaga working for the US? Sure...THAT will end well...

Sovereign Court

I wouldn't call that a reward. But it was a payoff.

I swear Project Hades sounds familiar. I think it was Director Bones of the DEO on Earth-Smallville from season 11.
