Just flagged one that had a purple image in its spam.

OK, THAT one I didn't see...

Got my share, now I'm off to bed before I loose it to my exhaustion and post a commentary on this Spamwar that would get me banned.

The wolf pack is on the prowl!

There will be wailing and gnashing of sharp pointy teeth, and crushing of bones between powerful jaws of DOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!

Curious as to why I'm not seeing some as already "FLAGGED" - can I not see others FLAGS?

I think we can't. I only see Flagged on ones I flag too

The shinmaj shinmaj clones are nearly 1000 strong if their numbering system is correct. They must be Flagged with extreme prejudice (the smashy kind, not the being mean to people kind)

I believe one of the Chosen Ones, A Moderator, is among us. Let us all rejoice!

By the way, there's an assumption that because they're using Korean characters (they actually sprinkle some Japanese characters) that the domain user is Korean.

That's not necessarily true. Here's the WHOIS on the spammer domain, it looks like it's hidden behind a domain privacy service.

^That's assuming that the spammers haven't spoofed the domain too . . .

I flag em when I see em on the sidebar, but I haven't ever gone looking for them.

Heck, obviously we don't have to go LOOKING for them! ;P

Flag at Will!!

Whatever WILL did, he deserves flagging! ;)

G'night Night-wolves, happy hunting!

To be fair, it hasn't been just me this night. But the moderators are out there.

In the trees.

Waiting.

Then all shall share in tonight's bounty!

Old wizard salutes the ninja-Liz with his staff, and then hikes his tired carcass off to bed! ;P

But magic-missile-flags ONE more on his way out! ;P

Still Flagging until I start to flag....

I cannot even tell anymore which ones I have flagged - they all look the same.

CB Out.

Hide the ones you flag, totally removes the noise so you can home in on your targets

I love it when I flag a spam post with in seconds of it going up...it feels like 'A-Ha I got you.'

Anyway I am out for now. Good hunting everyone.

Unfortunately this old wolf has to go to work in the morning. Must have flagged 100 tonight along side you good folk. Keep up the fight!

Hey Liz - can you tell me if I'm only seeing posts I've Flagged as Flagged?

Also, the posts I'm flagging seem to still be there - are they being removed, albeit slowly?

I have a suggestion. It it's possible, add a specific category for spam when flagging (maybe put it at the top, so that it's immediately accessible). Also, it would be nice, if the flags for spam could be visible to all, so as to avoid redundant flagging.

Those big purple arrow things are annoying. But makes the posts as easy to see as an orange jumpsuit clad ninja...

Flagged about 50 posts and they still keep coming....

When I read on other forums for games/video game related sites, I don't usually see this kind of spam. Maybe they have filters that paizo doesn't?

I suspect there are people who would do it for free if it didn't involve too onerous a time commitment.

I'd be inclined to suggest crowdsourcing. Identify a core group of volunteer spamcops, and when four or more of them jump on a post, it's automatically removed.

This also addresses the "who watches the watchman" issue; if someone decides to go on a vendetta against a real poster and start flagging everything they write, that won't actually have an effect unless there are three other co-vendettae.

We've discussed having volunteer moderators in the past, and there are a lot of reasons why we won't do it (one of them being the reasons you pointed out).

Would you be able to share any of the other reasons?

Really I'm just curious, but it does seem like this would be a good place to harness community goodwill - I'm thinking those of us on the other side of the world would be especially useful in cleaning things up during (your) night time or on weekends. I know less than nothing about computers but could imagine there might be security problems with giving non-employees superpowers, but even if it wasnt the use of the banhammer, it might be useful for you if some designated community members were able to access a "global hide" button which hid the thread from everyone else, including google. A kind of halfway house, to be reviewed and probably purged when you guys got to work.

Sigh...now maybe I can read the boards.

Flagged back about 45 min before taking a break.

The undying armies of The Whispering Way will fight against the spamming scourge. Even we think this is too much.

We're throwing ourselves into the front lines as well but these guys are relentless!

Uhmmm, SOMETHING needs to be done. Spam posts account for more of the current posts on the front page of the site than anything else...and it's been this way for most of the day here in Oz...

Sorry Kalindlara, I didn't see that post.

Wow. There's close to 400 spammer threads right now in General Discussion (as well as 2 in Ultimate Intrigue Playtest). That's the worst I've ever seen.

Yeah. I did about fifty threads/posts this morning before the phone rang and I had to start doing real work.

I fear for the weekend. You know that as soon as the Paizo staffers go home on Friday, there will be a tsunami.

Maybe if we went to the website listed in the spam and complained they would...oh, I can't even finish the sentence with a straight face.

I'M GONNA GRAB AS MANY OF THEM AS I CAN BEFORE I HAVE TO DO PAYROLL THIS MORNING.

Yeah the weekend will be brutal, with carnage everywhere. I also fear for Gen Con, when everyone is out of the office.

Alright, I've flagged about 100 or so this morning, but now I have to actually go work. If they're still here when I get on break I'll dive back in!

Strike true my brothers! Onward against the evil spam! Spam spam spam spam

Question for moderators.

With most of the spam being two posts, should we "flag" both of them? or will flagging just one get rid of both? ie. do you go to the userid screen and kill everything, or just the one flagged?

Which is easiest for you?
