Mine was decades-old memory from HS German classes, though I checked to make sure I remembered one word correctly.

I can't help it, this thread's title just makes me think of a certain song... (I think we're alone now: Tiffany)

Spammers behave
That's what the forum staff are wanting
And watch what you say
I don't understand
Korean

[Chorus:]
Flagging just as fast as we can
Hoping we can fend off all this spam
Tryin' to get it clear just for tonight
And then a mod comes on and bans it
And the forums are now clean
And then you say

I think I saw spam, there
There doesn't seem to be any more around
I think I saw spam, there
The hammer from Paizo is the only sound

By the way, the spammer(s) have started hitting existing (and otherwise valid) threads (like this one).

*Cough*
That Card Game General Discussion subforum's been having some troubles.

SWEET JEEBUS! Card Game General Discussion is, if my translations are correct, being spammed by talk of opium and Gangnum Style!

I tried flagging, but jeez, so much spam!

EDIT: Is it not possible to just block a spammer's IP address or something?

We can, and do, the problem is they are aware of that tactic and tend to go through providers that are also utilized by active users of the site. So if we block the IP, we also block a range of legitimate users. This is problematic for obvious reasons. So we do block when we can do so safely, but we also have other tactics.

I missed the first time I read this that you pointed to the Tiffany cover of the song instead of Tommy James and the Shondells. Now I feel old.

Man the barricades.

Yeah.

Though I gotta say: you guys are awesome. At least one person was banned before I could flag their posts. Hard. Core.

EDIT: PM'd zza ni.

EDIT: and PM'd the xiao and Sebastian Hirsch.

For the record, all you guys I'm PMing? Thanks for fighting Spam! I'm making a note that I did so in order to prevent you from getting overwhelmed with "don't post on Spam!" PMs.

EDIT: If anyone else wants to use my template for PMing folks, it's the next post (you can simply "Quote" that post, and delete the "[quote = "Tacticslion" ]" and "[ / quote ]" that appear on the top and bottom for ease and speed.

Chris Lambertz wrote:

We're taking care of it. Please don't continue to make threads or posts in response to the spam. Flags work just fine.

EDIT: I'll open this back up and respond more thoroughly once we got a hold of the current barrage of posts.

God bless you, and keep up the good flagging ("Breaks Other Guidelines")

Temporary cessation of flagging and PMing duties - I'm off to drop my eldest son at school.

EDIT: Okay, okay. Just a few more. I can stop any time I want. (Also, dressing my son takes long than previously planned.)

Cue up the Dave Clark Five:

Here they come again (ooh-oo-ooh)
Flag 'em for the ban (ooh-oo-ooh)
Time to get a move on (ooh-oo-ooh)
We will yell with all of our might:

Flag 'em for the ban
Flag 'em for the ban
Flag 'em for the ban
Flag 'em for the ban

Get 'em on the run (ooh-oo-ooh)
They ruin all our fun (ooh-oo-ooh)
Now we're gettin' angry (ooh-oo-ooh)
We will yell with all of our might:

Flag 'em for the ban
Flag 'em for the ban
Flag 'em for the ban
Flag 'em for the ban

Here they come again (ooh-oo-ooh)
Flag 'em for the ban (ooh-oo-ooh)

Almost all are two-hit-wonders at which point the account is abandoned and a new one is created, because they know they'll get banned and their account deleted.

EDIT: Oh, hey, and I'm back.

This means war.

Time for some REAL fighting music.

The Wurzels (Combine Harvester)

I found a spammer on the forums last night
(Ooh arr ooh arr)
I flagged their post because it doesn't seem right
(Ooh arr ooh arr)
Now something's telling me
That Paizo's gonna see
Come on now forumites, flag and then just leave!

(Chorus)
Cuz I found a brand new spammer on the site
I didn't want to see
Come on now let's flag together
In perfect harmony
I flagged twenty of them
And you flagged forty-three
Cuz we found a brand new spammer on the site
We didn't want to see.

(For the curious, it's expected that the old hymnal technique is used: you substitute "forums" (pronounced "for-uhms" and thus potentially disruptive) for "for'ms" (pronounced "for'ms", thus differentiating from "forms" but with a pause short enough to clip to the song.)

Some advice for flagging:

When you see several spam threads being generated look what username is creating them. Only grab a single thread for each username. Then click on the username and go to their posts (or threads) and then flag there.

That way you do not have to try and open every thread you can simply hammer the offender's posts using "this one simple method they don't want you to know about!"

Dancing with the sugarplum fairies in my dreams, where, alas, there is no WiFi.

And then going to school.

That GIF... is great.

I have avoided watching cartoons of late, because on the rare occasion that I have to babysit, I am absolutely astounded by their stupidity. However, a lot of my friends have been pushing me in the direction of Steven Universe and Gravity Falls-that GIF may have just sealed the deal with Gravity Falls.
