Super happy. I have some qualms with the formatting curse you forum coding that I haven't done in over a decade! but past that I think it's good.
I'm in the same place. I don't know that I'll get anywhere in the contest (although I am cautiously optimistic) but I'm really glad that I entered. If I don't go anywhere I get feedback on my design and I have found a wonderfully supportive and kind forum as a happy accident.
So yeah, currently a blend of happy, excited, and super nervous.

I found out about the contest roughly...10 hours? before the submission deadline, so I'm actually reasonably happy with my submission for the time I had to make it. Not sure if it's top-32 quality, but it is pretty rules-tight, correct pricing, and I think an interesting enough mechanic to be worthwhile. I would buy my item if I were a player :p

I was quietly confident on my item, until I saw some of the items I did template checks for - now, I'm fingers, arms and legs crossed man.
But that's all part of the fun. :)

I'm never confident about this contest. I would have been more confident with one of the wondrous items I was planning on submitting. And I failed to apply the lesson I learned last year when choosing between two items I was thinking about submitting.
MMM or Tripple Em- Mojo Matters Most!
For some reason I think I chose the one with less mojo because it was somewhat more unique and the mechanics where more solid. Will it get me there? Probably not, but I'm cool with that. I've got a plan for the days of critiquing items after the top 32 are announced. In some ways I'll be disappointed if I do make top 32.

In some ways I'll be disappointed if I do make top 32.
Honestly, if I get a slot, being in the UK, I think everyone wherever they are in the world will still hear a strange loud "Hoody hoo!" of joy.
( Yes, KODT reference, haven't seen one for a while ;) )

I think given the first round twist and the renewed excitement it has cause in RPGSS I think the competition may be the tightest it has ever been. The critique circles I have been a part of I think have demonstrated just how awesomely clever and creative this community is.
Given that, I don't know that my item is top 32 this year. It's fun, mechanically well put together and not really like anything I've seen elsewhere. But several of the other items I've seen are just as good if not better.
I certainly hope to make the Top 32 but if I don't it's no big deal I've still written an entry I'm super proud of.

I also feel I tried something unique. I did not want my magic armor, weapon, ring, rod, staff entry to have a comparable.
(come to think of it, would anyone have dared to write a magic armor, weapon, ring, rod, staff entry if they had truly thought it possible to keep it cheap?)
Hard to be vague. Just want to talk about it.
. . . must. . . remain . . . silent. . . urrgh!

I am cautiously optimistic about my entry. I feel I could have tightened up some wording slightly, but I always feel like that about everything, and if given the chance will simply fiddle and fiddle forever.
Overall though I feel my entry this year is head and shoulders above my last two entries, whether it is superstar enough... We will see, I expect the competition this year to be fierce.

Being a first timer I'm happy with it. I'm here this time around more for the experience. I know I left out one word in my item. I'm hoping that they miss it. I also renamed my item. Which I'm unhappy with. The new name reflects the item better, but it lacks the flavorful punch the first name had.
Overall, I like the item. I just wish I wasn't working retail during the holiday season while trying to submit the entry.
Either way I had a lot of fun and the competition has really inspired me to get moving on several other ideas.

I feel as good about it as one can, the voters either Willkie it as much as me or they won't. I think voting is going to be a lot tougher this year. With wondrous items there seems a vaste playground of ways to make an entry stand out. With this more limited scope I think it will be hard to pick between two awesome weapons, and perhaps hard to picke between a well done ring and an awesome weapon.

Don't get me wrong, I have my worries. Still, I can't help but be excited for people to see it. I don't know how confident I am that my item will go anywhere in the contest, but I'm really happy I submitted it.
I was until someone I trusted read it and said "That's a good first try."

Some will like it. Some will hate it. And it will grow on some as the voting progresses.
Isn't that the way of it though. Not every voter will like every idea. Some will want player items, some will like things to use as a DM. Some will like camping items, some will not. Once we put it out there it is up to the voters and then the judges.

Absolutely. Most everything in our hobby is subjective to some extent. But I expect that my item will be mentioned at least a couple times on the inevitable (and vague) "Voters' Incessant Ramble" and/or "Voters' Incessant Praise" threads. Of course it will be so vague I might assume mentions of other items were mentions of mine. But some of them might actually be, and I wouldn't be surprised with what I submitted this year.

We'll see. My item is something that I'd enjoying having in a campaign, and something that I'd enjoy my players having. I'm no good at measuring mojo, but I think the item could form the basis of interesting stories, which is more than I could say about my past contributions.
Mojo is what I look for first, will the item make the game fun to play and offer cool stories to tell.

I suppose mojo is subjective too. I would define mojo as "badassness." It is that coolness factor that almost can't be put into words. It's awesomeness also has to leap off of the page at you. There are plenty of items submitted that are cool and could make very memorable encounters, but they are too subtle and these memorable encounters have to be thought out and contemplated before the awesomeness shines through. My item last year was just such an item. I think my item this year is less so, but the item I cut just before submitting had more of this "wow" factor. I think I failed the Triple M test again this year.

Andrew Black RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16 , Marathon Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Marathon Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9 aka MythrilDragon |

I think that is one of the ways the public voting has change the contest. What used to WOW a panel of industry judges is not the same thing the will WOW the common voter.
Judges liked things that played with mechanics in cool ways, but I think voters like stuff that WOW's visually. Perhaps the difference between the way a book stimulates the mind and a movie the eyes. BOTH great and exciting and valuable ways to entertain, but have a different focus of appeal.
In creating my entry this year, I was looking for a cool WOW visual that the public will like but also handles the rules in a way the judges will like if mine should find its way to the top of the public pile.

I like my item, and am happy that I submitted it... it would be a lie if I said that every year I don't end up seeing items that I like better than mine though (and the last two years with the public voting, quite a few of the items I like better than mine don't make the top 32... while items that make the top 32... in fact since public voting began only about 20% of my personal favorites have made the top 32).

I like my item, though there were things that I think I can definitely still improve on it.
What I like most about it, though, is realizing during the course of designing it that some of the ideas and spaces I was designing it for haven't really been covered so far, or at least not in the ways and to the degree that I am satisfied with. Which has given me a lot of thoughts on ancillary items and/or spells, rules, etc, to continue to play with.
