I'm pretty sure there will be giants in it. :D

Other than that, not much is known yet. It will be taking place in Belkzen.

Teasers man! i want teasers!
or you know, a little more info then it has giants and orcs, there has got to be more to giants and orcs,
are they just playing this one close to the vest?

It's not Galt, we also know that.

Guess we will just have to wait until Monday to find out more about this AP?

Well, it takes place in Belkzen.

That means the giants that will be slain could be the megafauna of the Realm of Mammoth Lords, the forces of the frost giant warlord taking over the mountain range Belkzen sits next to, or something to do with another runelord awakening.

The one piece of art I've seen for this AP (a link to a Facebook page over in the Paizocon thread) shows a rune giant, a stone giant and a frost giant.

Wasn't a rune giant. It was a shadow giant. From Inner Sea Bestiary.

What happens in Belkzen, does not stay in Belkzen.

Scarab Sages

Well where could it go besides Belkzen? Maybe adjacent? Ustalav? Lastwall? Nirmathas?

Ustalav was Carrion Crown wasn't it?

Oh Realm of the Mammoth Lords is quite giantey. :)

I'd love to see a kind of "Against the Giants" style AP for Pathfinder / Golarion. Back in the "good ol days" beating up giants was one of our favorite things to do. Getting beat up by the giants, not so much (that happened too).

James Jacobs wrote:

yeah, no one wants to STAY in Belkzen, even the Orcs don't want to stay there (i assume thats what all the hoard massing is about?) maybe all the pillaging and raping is just their way of saying "Hello"

No one else picked up on this? Shadow Giants are almost wholly Zon-Kuthon Worshipers & rarely found outside of Nidal.

Or am I reading too much into this?

Not really, but maybe.

We did reveal on Sunday that the bulk of the AP will be taking place along the Mindspin Mountains. Which, among other nations, borders Belkzen and Nidal.

A Shadow Giant, a Stone Giant, and a Frost Giant walk into a tavern...

Shortest AP ever.

Not if a Fire Giant, Rune Giant and Storm Giant are already there:)

Mindspin Mountains, if memory servers me right a Giant of great power is in that area.

Maybe we're reading the title wrong. We're assuming "Giantslayer" means "slayer of giants" but perhaps it's a play-on-words where the title indicates that we'll be playing as slayers who are ALSO giants.

Stupid guess? Maybe. Awesome idea? Damn right it is.

James Jacobs wrote:

That makes it a change from the past few APs, which start in a country and then stay in that country. Although I doubt it'll be as long a trip away from the starting location as Reign of Winter had (then again, unless you guys did a Distant Worlds AP, you'd be hard-pressed to stray as far from your starting location as Reign of Winter did).

EDIT: Well, country or region, since the Worldwound isn't technically a country.

Is it possible anything can be bigger than Colossal? Cuz that would be awesome!

...and now my mind is starting to put the separation between the two component words in a different place...

We start off the AP in Belkzen, and then we dig down underneath the crust, under the mantle, into... the Giants' Layer.

(it could be worse, much worse)

So we have Giants a place could Mindspin Mountains, lm calling mountain of madness and the Elder Things controlling the giants.

"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn."

I think this AP is gonna be a big hit. Quite a few big hits actually

The little I remember from the panel goes as such:

Book 1 deals primarily with orcs.
Book 2 deals with hill giants.
Two books deal with fire and frost giants respectively.
The final book is dealing with someone known as the Storm Titan and is set to be written by Tito Leati.

Sorry I didn't take notes!

With that info, my guess changes to starting as a group out of Lastwall heading into Belkzen to figure out why the orcs are pushing east so hard. Book 1 ends with the PCs finding out there is an army of giants massing in the Mindspan Mountains and they go deal with it.

That breakdown sounds a lot like Against the Giants. Good ols Snorri Ironbelly. :D

Considering the old school fantasy vibe, I reckon this one will steer clear of the pervasive Lovecraftian elements that have crept into the game in prior APs.

Exciting news! I only recently made a comment in the "APs you want to see in the future thread" where I mentioned wanting to see an AP themed not around a country, but around a type of story - and seems like this AP will be just that!

However, isn't "fight increasingly large humanoids" kind of Rise of the Runelord's thing?

Spoiler:

goblins -> ghouls -> ogres -> stone giants -> more giants

Shadow Lodge

Yeah, I'm very thirsty for more details here.

Specifically, I'm looking at where it occupies creative space that distinguishes it from Against the Giants, Red Hand of Doom and/or the indicated parts of Rise of the Runelords.

When I casually discussed it with some of my players over beers during the holiday weekend, I think it was the perceived overlap with these other "APs" that tempered what is usually "Oh my god, that sounds awesome" enthusiasm - Iron Gods, for example, had us all fired up when we first heard about it.

Bahh l was hoping for a full "cathulu" theme AP this time or a "Rovagug" kaiju theme AP

The Exchange

Paizo's publishing style dictates that they rotate between outlandish APs and mainstream APs twice a year - meaning, that after each "weird" AP, they publish a normal one, and after each normal they publish a weird. So, there was very little chance of this AP focusing on either Cthulhu, Rovagug or Kaiju.

The next one, which IRRC will be announced later this summer, might be.

Catthulhu is a different take on the mythos than Paizo's. :)

My thoughts exactly, but still...

Even though this is only tiny bits of info it already got me thinking about re-subscrbing!

James Jacobs is incredibly awesome. With that said it is my understanding that this AP belongs to Rob McCreary who is also incredibly awesome as well. :)

I cannot wait for this AP!!

Total Conjecture: I agree with the Starting in Lastwall and trying to see why Orcs are pushing east, leading to discovery of Giants Army. Maybe it will involve moving into Orv or another layer of the Darklands? If I remember correctly doesn't one of the Vaults have a large Giant Population?

It sounds like the skies' the limits for this AP! I'm quite excited!

Liberty's Edge

Not excited yet, but I'm open to more info.

Glad to hear it doesn't stay in Belkzen though.

I'm very excited for this AP - giants are some of my favourite 'classic' monsters, and thanks to the announcement of this AP you have my subscription at least until this time next year. Well played, Paizo. Now if only you would release the Pawns earlier :)

I can see dwarves being the race du jour for this AP - which will make a nice change from all the humans and half-humans running around in my games*. And orcs too, due to it's beginnings in Belkzen. A party with both of them should be very interesting indeed :D

* Actually, only one of my games (Kingmaker) is relatively human-centric, with two humans and a half-elf. One (Wrath of the Righteous) is mostly tieflings/asimaars with one human, and the other (Mummy's Mask) is undetermined-as-yet.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

I'm excited for this.

I'm also hoping that this means we will see some Giants as minis in one of the upcoming line.

We desperately need more!

When I saw this I thought what about a box set of Giants like they did with the Dragons? 4-5 different Giants, both male and female! (don't have to be of the same Giant type)

Just registering my excitement - besides the uber-munchkin murderhobo-athons of my tween years, Against the Giants was the first campaign I ran for my friends. Good times. Lots and lots of devastation. The NPC death toll was so extreme that the gods themselves had to intervene.

Love the idea of this AP! Love that it starts with orcs, as Paizo hasn't done anything with orcs yet, and I've been truly missing them!

Probably the only thing I'm not excited about is the book with hill giants . . . I know they are a staple, but that's the one type of giant I feel has been overplayed, and, well, they're just boring. With so many different giants in Golarion that are incredibly awesome, I'd rather see hill giants replaced. However, I can understand the old school thought that pushes for the inclusion of hill giants, so it really doesn't dissuade from my excitement of this AP!
