"Shizuru, grant me the strength I need to protect my home." Sigurd dramatically sheathes and then unsheathes his katana. It shines briefly, a blessing from the goddess herself.

He moves to the base of the hill, hopefully drawing all of the trees towards him. "Come!"

Chagrined that Lan thought to actually think, rather than idly worry, about what was wrong with those trees, Auntie Wu dashes closer to give them a serious look. She takes a moment (before those birds come) to analyze what she can see of the infection from here.

What is causing the infection? What can we do to cure it?
She shares what she learns with the group immediately.

Then she calls out to Sigurd and Sato: "Vekka went inside! The birds can't dive bomb us there! Come on! The trees will wait!" As much as it pains her, she doesn't like the odds of her group going up against both sets of foes at the same time, so she chooses the least-bad-looking-option and goes with it. She follows Vekka, staying one step behind him.

Though they are weak to slashing damage (and fire / electricity), cutting them free of their infection (@ half HPs) should lower their AC but increase their speed.

The sap, if it gets on your weapon, can deal acid damage to it!

Like the Crazed Centipedes, this Infection comes from somewhere only recently, as the sap is not of this world...

"The trees are infected with a sap that slows them down. It's...it can't be from this world! The sap is acidic enough to damage your weapons. If enough of the sap is drained (half HP), they'll speed up and be easier to damage, but I don't think they'll stop attacking then. Ohhhhh, poor trees!" Auntie Wu is bordering on frantic again. She absolutely hates abandoning the trees right now, but she can't properly help them while being attacked.

@Lan: It doesn't look like she knows of a way for her to heal them.

Do we want to fight the trees, or just outrun them? Lan will delay until he sees what others are going to do. It looks like they have 10' speed, so Lan can blast two of them with Electric Arc and then back away (perhaps leading them away). Lan is likely already fatigued, so if it's just 1 poison for each of the reactions, it's not too bad.

Auntie Wu's scan detects no magic... but Vekka opens the door to discover two gigantic birds with long sharp beaks fluttering in place about 5 feet above the ground! As well, one Jinkin looks to be attempting to mount one of the birds - he again dressed in the attire of the imperial guard, which fits loosely upon him, a boot on his head.

"Hold still dummy" he scolds it.

Beyond, the inside of this dingy room is where Willowshore’s prison cells are located. The seven cells have iron bars and brick walls. Without some irony, perhaps a dozen prisoners, recognizable as the imperial guard themselves, line the blocks, one and two at a time.

They look upon the new intruder - also a "bird" of sorts! - and yet more horror crosses their faces!

A couple of Jinkins appear to be passed out in one of the cells as well...

"Vekka, I've spent a lot of time observing and understanding animals. These giant birds might not be inherently hostile. If we focus on dealing with the jinkins without provoking the birds, they might not see us as threats. Attacking them could turn them against us, and I believe we can avoid unnecessary conflict by keeping our focus on the jinkins. Trust in my experience with animals – it might help us navigate this situation more peacefully."

They possess a defensive reaction that is similar to Nimble Dodge with a bonus Step while Flying.

Too, they seem afflicted with the same sickness / curse / disease that affected the centipedes - they seem not only to be of unusual size, but struck with some foul bloodlust!

Perhaps, you speculate, they are unfavorable to Jinkin flesh, which might explain their behavior of indifference with respect to the other sapients in the room...
