Sigurd Kolphan, Season of Ghost |
"What an odd toy..." Sigurd sighs. "Thank you, Lan. I am uncertain of what I would do without your approach."
Sigurd checks the rest of his home, now ruined. But he looks and finds some of his old supply. Some of the hand-me-downs from his family before they moved to Willowshore. His favorite coin and two vials of magic oil.
"Darius, come with us. Have you seen Sheela? Sister? You must have gotten separated. We will find her."
Ah, Darius. A fan of local politics at such a young age. Normally he's much more affable, but now he needs a protector.
"Thank you, everyone. Now, let us visit the shrine to Pharasma." He spends his time talking to his brother and lets the others bless it.
Auntie Wu |
At the Lady of Souls:
As soon as she sees the shrine, Auntie Wu hustles toward it, digging in her pocket for a copper coin. She tries to remember what Sigurd did earlier; it takes all her might to stay focused on this instead of her special tea and smokes so close, so nearby--Wait. No. This first.
With a deep, focusing breath, she mumbles: "Pharasma. What is happening here--it's a perversion of the natural order of things. Please bless this coin. We need it to protect people. ... Um... Thank you." Her words are awkward, as she normally does her worshiping with just *feeling*, but they are sincere.

Does someone else want to try the Diplomacy check? I only have a +5.
Ho Lan |
Lan has Diplomacy +8, but I thought Diplomacy to was to locate a Shrine, not to Invoke Blessing.
Lan nervously walks up to the shrine. "So ... um ... Lady ... I guess we kind of ... worship you ... uh, maybe ... more, like, um ... wish you well?"
Lan will spend a Hero Point.
Diplomacy, Hero Point: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
"Yeah, so ... I guess if you have a blessing to give us ... I'm saying that we would take the blessing."
Lan stumbles through the invocation and angers the gods!
Kazuki Sato |
"Thank the gods that creepy doll is disabled. Good work, Lan."
Kazuki looks down at the front of his wet pants then looks back up with an embarrassed grin.
"Heh. I need to take a dip in the river really quick."
Vekka Tchakon |
Vekka mostly follows at the back of the group when they head back to the shrine.
Only one more shrine to go it seems? I'm guessing one of you has a preference for which it will be before we would resort to me erecting a shrine to Nethys. Still... perhaps this town could use one.
The gods themselves |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
An astral tributary from the River of Souls spills forth from the shrine - a dizzying flash of divine insight momentarily stuns Auntie Wu and [redacted] (see below) - she emerges with her hangover completely cleared, and vital energy overflowing gently from her aura!
Auntie Wu Benefits from:
1) Her deity's Minor Boon (for a Success to Invoke Blessing)
2) Her deity's Moderate Boon (for a Critical Success to Invoke Blessing)
3) She can choose one other member in the party to recieve a Hero Point (because Area of Concern: fate)
4) These benefits remain until her next Long Rest
The Shrine hath given it's Blessing - while it remains a Shrine, it is now "tapped" of power for the time being...
Auntie Wu |
Re #3: According to the Macros, Kazuki is the only one without a Hero Point, so if that's correct he can have it.
"Huhh!" Gasping, Auntie Wu is astounded by the sudden release from her hangover and symptoms of addiction. It's the second time tonight (the first was just before the meeting with Granny Hu), and she can't help but feel that there's some significant portent involved. She bows deeply and thanks Pharasma; her words are simple but the feeling behind them is sincere. "Thank you!"
A thought pops up in her mind: Still, it wore off last time. Better grab my stuff while I can. Pocketing the blessed copper, she asks: "Anybody else need anything here? Or are we good to go? I need to stop by my house real quick, and then we can go to Matzuki Estate. And for you, Darius, there's a bit of honeycomb at my house." She gives him a playful wink.
Once everyone's ready, Auntie Wu leads the way.
Survival to Sense Direction: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
She motions for Hua to walk beside her. Having noticed that the young woman had been almost as terrified as she was, Auntie Wu thinks now is a good time to offer her some appreciation for the risks and sacrifices she is making. "Hua, thank you for helping us protect Darius. If Lan hadn't been successful... We would've needed all of us to keep him safe. It's good to have you with us."
Sigurd Kolphan, Season of Ghost |
"Of course. Let's check your home." Sigurd keeps his katana drawn. Hopefully there are no giant cockroaches and possessed dolls in her home.
Vekka Tchakon |

Ravens.
But their voices are eerier than usual - the echoing "fuller" more akin to being in a confined space designed to amplify acoustics than wide open in the outdoors...
Phantoms.
Their bird-like voices almost sound human - nearing the pronunciation of words - like "caw caw" but then "come come" or maybe "kill kill"...
Several spiders crawl in through the windows and under the cracks of doors.
It's dark, and their bodies are dark, and small... a couple here... a couple there...
Do not open unless the party succeeds at all three above checks (one check per PC max)
Phantom Ravens lurk in the woods. They are definitely watching you. And the house is definitely overrun with Spiders (a "Swarm" of them).
Anyone trained in Nature or Religion can make one check to Recall Knowledge about each - don't forget to include your question!
If you succeeded with the same check above, you can add +1 circumstance bonus to the corresponding check!
Approaching the house, it seems empty. Where has Auntie Wu's family gone? Or are they inside but silent?
Overhead, the moon lurks menacingly!
No new save at this time...
New Map is up - please place your Tokens!

He pauses to look at Auntie Wu.
"They're not your pets, are they?"
Maybe this is how people on the Southside live.
Sigurd Kolphan, Season of Ghost |
"Ha! It's like the sun is reminding you it exists."
Sigurd keeps his spirits high. A nagging fear crawls at the back of his throat. If he hadn't seen his home's front door smashed open, Darius may have fallen to the cockroach, or maybe the doll's game would turn deadly.
Shizuru, please help me keep Auntie Wu's family safe. His katana shines briefly against the red misty moon. Maybe Tsukiyo is heeding his call?
Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Whoever is helping him, he raises his Shield and Defends. "Those sound like crows. But... they are Phantoms. Trying to speak our language. I can't tell if they're are beckoning us to come, or they are declaring their intent to kill. Be on alert, everyone."
Auntie Wu |

Auntie Wu lives alone, but her son knows he's always welcome even if she isn't home.
Nature, DC 15: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
As they approach her house, Auntie Wu stops short. The tiny hairs all over her body rise. "Ravens." She breathes. "They sound like...in a cave, instead of out in the open. Their voices shouldn't...resound like this..." She grabs her shield and raises it, ready (and not ready) for anything.
Oh, hey! She's got a pretty nice house. I like it. It's not tidy, though. Nature has its own order, a juxtaposition of precise Fibonacci sequences and seemingly random tatters; the interior of her house is the same.
DM rainzax |
Aware of the dangers that lurk (open spoiler upthread), the party decides their approach…
Kazuki Sato |
After a quick dip in the river to wash off, Kazuki follows the group to the next shrine. Witnessing Auntie being momentarily stunned by the blessing, he is awestruck by the powers of the divine.
"Woah. That must be pretty intense."
He looks up to the heavens, through the creepy crimson mist, wondering if the gods are really watching.
------------------------------
"Hopefully we can get a good night's rest at Auntie's house. I'm exhausted."
He yawns and stretches his arms.
"Wow, Auntie. Nice home you have!"
Approaching Auntie's house, Kazuki keeps on the lookout for danger...
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
However, Auntie and Sigurd already spot something. With bow in hand, Kazuki stops dead in his tracks.
"What? Spiders and phantoms!?! What is going on with this town!?!" he exclaims quietly.
"I'll check the side".
Kazuki sneaks quietly to check the left side of the house.
Stealth (T): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Auntie Wu |
Icy cold sheets of dread drench Auntie Wu in fresh sweat. Her clothes definitely need laundering at this point. Her mind shies away from the voices in the woods and latches onto the spiders. They're normal (usually), so they feel like the lesser threat. I can handle spiders, she thinks, stuffing her desperation and panic to the back of her mind and trying to dredge up something more useful instead. What threat do these spiders pose?
Recall Knowledge (Nature: spiders): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 1 = 18

Vekka Tchakon |
Phantom ravens... it's always something lately.
He draws his katana, faces the front door, and then looks down at Darius. Of course he still had his hand so it was redundant.
Stay close unless I tell you otherwise... he whispers softly but sternly to the boy.

Auntie Wu |
Did Auntie Wu learn anything about the spiders' special attacks with her 18 nature roll? If so, she would have immediately shared it with everyone, so no need to post it in a spoiler.
A sense of dread overcomes Auntie Wu. They're coming! They're coming! She doesn't know what to do. Which is coming first? How best to fight them? Perhaps the others will know better. "Protect Darius!" She frantically shouts to Hua, then casts Guidance on Sigurd and Vekka.
