...one vote Map Room, one vote Crew Bunks...
Awaiting one more PC to weigh in - and generally will progress things using “quorum of two”!
GM rainzax |
GM Tiger has PM'ed me to step down, as he has over-committed himself to too many games (I know half of you are currently enrolled in one).
I have reached out to Frozen Frost as a replacement (per his request), but if he declines, I will post the opening back to the Community for an immediate replacement.
That said, whether progressing forward with 4 or 5 players, I am prepared to make CP adjustments on the fly.
Carry On and Cheers!
GM rainzax |
Pausing the scene to allow Frozen Frost to replace GM Tiger.
Frost, go ahead and roll to Sense Motive (DC 20) and consult below:
You judge the creature to be bored and in need of entertainment. It is most likely responsible for the crew bunks being neatly organized despite years of disuse by an actual crew. If you fail to appease it somehow, or make any sudden movements (moving, for example), it looks twitchy enough to attack!
Skill checks to entertain it using Perform, Society or Library Lore or Scribing Lore (or similar) checks to show it written texts, or Tradition Checks while casting an Illusion effect would work towards appeasing it!
Each PC may attempt a single check, or decline to roll. I am holding the DC secret, so if you intend to use a Hero Point, please specify which outcome (CF/F/S/CS) you would intend to change with a re-roll!
You are unable to discern exactly what it wants, but you know enough to understand that the creature, if not appeased somehow, will attack to defend it's turf, and seems certainly capable of doing so!
Krinolyn ”Veiled Lady” Styncorn |
Dotted in. Done with Slides and Macros. I have a glyph to share.
GM rainzax |
I have incorporated "Veiled Lady" into my GM Bar - everyone starts with two Hero Points which I am recording here.
Also: Hero Point to Ramona!
GM rainzax |
Once in the room can't we all try to find clues?
Of course you can, players can change their Exploration Mode at any time, it isn't a locked in choice per se, but often characters have a "default" mode - I know all of my characters do!
Horul |
For information I am traveling the entire day today. I should find some wifi at the arrival.
GM rainzax |
Will post combat rounds tomorrow.
If you haven’t filled in the macros (or need help!), I was unable to roll initiative for the whole party, so, next time, I’d like to be able to use them - please take a moment to fill them out!
my weapon can’t be sheathed.
Any item can be worn, and worn weapons need to be drawn using an action. Hands without weapons in them, then, for conducting diplomacy!
Haohji PFS |
Could he be talking about claws? My 'weapons' cannot be sheathed either, but that is because I gots Monk Dedication! ;)
GM rainzax |
Yeah, this type of situation gives Gunslingers and Monks an edge.
Feel free to check out my extensive GM alias for a list of links ("Equipment and Gear") on how different actions (such as wearing and drawing a polearm) function in the action economy during encounter mode!
GM rainzax |
How high is the platform that the Barrister is on? Would I be able to vault up without the stairs? Maybe with an Athletics check?
It is not special Terrain, treat it like flat ground mechanically.
I will note any special Terrain in my Round by Round combat summaries!
Haohji PFS |
Got it! Thanks!
Merellin Darcassan |
GM, I really like how you use alt profiles to liven up the game! Well done! :)
Haohji PFS |
Agreed! This is fun!
Haohji PFS |
I am embarrassed to say that I missed the opportunity to thank the Veiled Lady for making up for his medicinal deficiency. That's what I get for responding on my phone, instead of waiting to get to my computer... Sorry!
GM rainzax |
Didn't forget about this game - just got busy a day or two. Posting now!
Krinolyn ”Veiled Lady” Styncorn |
I am pointing at the "i" one. I should have said south of the map. My bad.
GM rainzax |
GM rainzax |
Awaiting everyone else’s Initiative
Haohji will then have to contend with 4d6 persistent bleed on his turn!
Haohji PFS |
Wasn't it 2d6 persistent bleed? The 4d6 was just the initial, wasn't it?
GM rainzax |
CF
GM rainzax |
If at all possible, Merellin will run up to Haohji and pull him out of the haunt's area.
As we are in Encounter Mode, let’s say this is essentially a Shove action but with a Simple Trained DC (15) that can only be attempted with permission (which I think we can assume in this situation!)
You will have to be at least adjacent to him, and when you pull him into your square, you will have to have an empty square behind you.
May require some party coordination here.
GM rainzax |
Ramona will take two actions to try to help end Haohji's persistent bleed.
Assuming you meet the Requirements, please roll to Administer First Aid (◆◆)
GM rainzax |
Do we need to be adjacent to the haunt to disable it?
Yes. It is in Haohji's square currently. I will add a token for it!
GM rainzax |
My intent here is to make enough of a space to pull up the floorboards! What would you like me to do? Athletics? Craft?
Unarmed attack against an inanimate object (the floor)!
Ramona Stonesplitter |
Ramona Stonesplitter wrote:Ramona will take two actions to try to help end Haohji's persistent bleed.Assuming you meet the Requirements, please roll to Administer First Aid (◆◆)
I think instead I will use the Assisted Recovery rules linked <<here>>, not necessarily to stop the bleeding, but to, perhaps, lower the Flat check on Haohji's turn.
GM rainzax |
You have not described yourself as taking any action beyond “I will end the bleed” so I am ruling that your attempt is within the parameters of Administer First Aid, which is why I linked it.
GM rainzax |
Ramona will have torn off a piece of cloth, and wrapped it around Haohji's wound to help stop the bleeding.
This looks like an Untrained attempt to Administer First Aid, and necessitates a roll to do so.
You are, of course, welcome to abstain from rolling if you’d like to avoid critically failing, but I am otherwise ruling that rubbing a gushing wound with a rag (without proper first aid training) is effectively non-helpful.

Basic Will (DC 17) @ 4d6 Slashing + 2d6 Persistent Bleed + Speed penalty -10: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1, 2) = 11
Again, this was the initial post. Was there something increased the persistent bleed to 4d6, or was this a typo? I never got a response when I asked initially... I just want to be certain how severe the persistent blead is...

What was your Save outcome?
Haohji PFS |
Pretty terrible, if I recall. OH, that's what CF meant! I couldn't parse what that meant, but now it makes sense, you meant critical fail! Gotcha. I had no idea what you meant by CF...
Got it! You can't critically fail a flat check though, right? (Just checking for the last check I made...)
EDIT: I should have 12 hp. Did I take extra damage at the beginning of this arc? I thought we had healing after the last one? If not, from now on, can we assume that I use Treat Wounds on the wounded after every arc is done? I have the skill and healer's tools. Because we are jumping back and forth in time it is very jarring... Unless I am misunderstanding things...

I have been meticulously tracking your damage, post by post. If you have a discrepancy, please link every post in which you took damage, and use that to make your case of GM math error.
Haohji PFS |
Okay, I trust you. I must have missed something. I didn't realize that I was so low on hp.
GM rainzax |
Can I use Medicine to stop the bleeding / or allow the Assisted flat check? (When it is my turn anyway...)
Ramona Stonesplitter wrote:Ramona will take two actions to try to help end Haohji's persistent bleed.Assuming you meet the Requirements, please roll to Administer First Aid (◆◆)
Haohji PFS |
Okay, that was what I assumed, but wanted to be sure that it wasn't particular to her situation. So, will this reduce the flat check or allow a second flat check?
GM rainzax |
If you succeed, you can apply the success entry!
Haohji PFS |
What I mean is, this is a completely separate function. The success entry allows for a second roll, but this is not the assisted action for persistent damage. I guess I am just not clear if there is ANY way to do the assisted action for persistent damage... (having to make a DC 10 flat check is much easier than two chances for 15 or greater, in my mind.)
I mean, it seems that the claws and chains are constantly tearing at Haohji's feet, and are incorporeal, so are not really escapable, am I correct in that assumption? I am just unsure as to what I CAN do... I mean, I am not trained in Religion, so that option is unavailable, my speed is reduced, but I CAN still move, does it seem like I drag the chains with me? I just want to know what my options are...
Right now, I am playing it like Haohji is panicking. He has never fought anything that he couldn't fight with his fists, so this is absolutely panicking him. Forgive me if I am not playing him optimally.
GM rainzax |
I think that the GM, in this case, is saying that that option is not available. The closest is the Administer First Aid action. Which will allow an extra Flat Check. I think in this case, there is no obvious way to do the Assisted Recovery. Haunts are scary.
That is correct. You critically failed a save that doubled the persistent damage. In game terms, this means a major artery gushing blood, as I have described in gameplay. Rubbing a couple of rags on it in 3 seconds does not, in my adjudication, constitute a reduction in the flat check DC. Haohji needs actual medical attention!
Haohji PFS |
Just waiting for my turn... ^_^
Ramona Stonesplitter |
Ramona will move back, and cast Soothe on Haohji.
Heal Haohji for: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
(Also bolsters against mental effects)
GM rainzax |
Is it fair to say that as it started getting dark, Haohji lit his lantern?
+1
Haohji PFS |
Just a heads up, I am flying to San Diego for a few days, so my posting may be spotty. It will be on my phone so I will not be able to update the map...
GM rainzax |
I'll kindly remind those contemplating the Escape action that the DCs to do so are essentially posted in the Gameplay thread!
Merellin Darcassan |
Veiled Lady, I don't mean to backseat game for you, but I'd like to mention that the two-action Heal does not give the 8 additional damage on harming undead:
◆◆(somatic, verbal) The spell has a range of 30 feet. If you're healing a living creature, increase the Hit Points restored by 8.
(Same with Harm to harm living, it's only for healing that you get the +8.)
A single action would've had the same effect, or a three-action Heal would've forced a save from every zombie and healed us at the same time.
Not asking the GM for a re-do, what's happened has happened, just giving options for future turns.
GM rainzax |
Depending on how you see the interaction between Reloading Strike and the Grabbed condition, you might swap the 12 of the flat check with the 18 on the attack roll (and therefore not critting), since Reloading strike says you first make an attack and then reload (giving the flat check after the attack), but the Grabbed condition says you do the flat check before applying effects (implying flat check first, then see what happens). I'll leave that up to the GM.
Let’s keep your rolls as is.
But yes, in the future, my strong preference is to conduct “foiling flat checks” before rolling any other dice, but after declaring the action’s intent, including running subordinate actions in the proper order when resolving multi action activities (Such as reloading strike).
TLDR, exactly as you said.
=)
