When Melissa hopped into the crate for unwrapping the crew had most of the food groups covered. So the build (which of course JUST came together) was "Most helpful intern" Throwing both Strek and Guess? her envoy dice in diplomacy engineering and computers and a +3 aid another from helpful. So moving from backup to primary hacker does shift a fair number of parts, which shifts a bunch of other parts because xfinder characters are 3 dimensional rube goldbergs..
-her recent ability crystal should be +4 int +2 dex rather than +2 dex +4 int
-Recent purchase of an armor upgrade slot should be a +1 datajack instead.
- The envoys unique hacker trick is using culture to guess* peoples passwords (which is what she was doing when we Reisora'd the last chance in the first place) Which would replace expertise (diplomacy) with expertise in culture and helpful advice with security audit.
-her helpful feat isn't terrible but could easily move to skill focus: survival since that's the groups weak skill.
*actually guess. Not Guess? something like you Reisora something.
jaraduk do you WANT to take up survival? Melissa has been doing it so far and I think I have a spare feat for skill focus lying around.

Linky Leveling plan has versions A and B to go from computer intern to social hacker.
With a high int and being a ysoki her engineering is already pretty high. Next level I can grab a computers reroll and the level after that 1d6+2 in engineering, which will be pretty close to maxed out.
Skill focus in engineering now would be good, but the consolation prize for envoys for having their class bonus eclipse skill focus is terribad. ( Operatives get the take 10 button when that happens. Envoys get to reroll their expertise die once per day, called in advance. rerolling a die that small is mathematically +1 or so)

Guess? |

I'm also considering some potential changes:

BigNorseWolf |

Current
computers 14+1d6+1
engineering +16
Post computer camp would be
Computers +16+1d6+1 + a +5 i THINK for having the password if the culture thing works.
If you succeed, you reduce the DC of Computers checks to hack the computer as though you had the proper password.
Engineering +17 and will shoot up in a level or 2.

Also, with Nefreet gone, we've lost our resident ship builder. I'm not sure about everyone else but the ship building rules when we level up are a complete mystery to me. I suppose leveling our ship up doesn't matter unless we get into ship combat.
And considering that we're currently not on our own ship, perhaps it's not an immediate concern.

Akh Xi |

@Nefreet: If you see this, it was great playing with you, and I hope we'll see you on the boards again some time!
@Other Folks: Sounds like you guys have the build adjustments under control. Akh has neither Computers nor Engineering as class skills, so it would be a little tricky to get those covered from where I am right now. I can however swap to survival if you guys think we need another person with it?
I can do ship upgrading if need be, though it seems we won't need it for quite some time.

All of those character sheet changes are fine by me! (Guess?, even your class feature & gun swap.) Thanks y'all for being flexible there.
I will also miss our resident ship builder. Thankfully...
This book won't have any ship combats in the Last Chance
we don't need to worry about that for a while. And... we'll cross the ship building bridge when/if we come to it. We might not, as neither the last book nor this one seem intent on giving out BP the way the first two did. Paizo may have decided to lean away from that mechanic of the AP. I haven't read Book 5 yet, we'll see if it returns.

Jaraduk Cometrunner |

Do we have more aquatic battle in store for us, or was the original retraining for a one-time need?

Guess? |

All of those character sheet changes are fine by me! (Guess?, even your class feature & gun swap.)
Sounds good! I'll make these changes after this current combat encounter concludes.

![]() |

The odds of aquatic battles from here on out are about the same as any other AP. (Almost zero.) BUT... I'm gonna be a big meanie and say you can't use your free Strek rebuild to get rid of the aquatic feats since those were an intentional one time choice. (Though now would definitely be the time to pick up a mneumatic editor to burn those away.)

Hmmmm... Is a Line weapon exempt from Cover? For some reason I feel like it might be, because otherwise the successive folks hit by the weapon would ALWAYS have cover. I guess the Line rule says "The weapon hits all targets with an AC equal to or lower than the attack roll." Cover does grant a bonus to AC...
I've asked this question before, haven't I?
I'm going to assume Melissa's weapon is exempt from Cover for this attack, and we'll figure it out from here.

![]() |

Melissa has the bullet rain fighting style, rendering the age old question moot. Nothing has concealment or anything less than total cover when the tiny mouse breaks out the big gun.
Spray Targets (Ex) - 1st Level
When attacking an area (like a line or cone) with heavy weapons, you ignore concealment and any cover less than total cover.
She learned two things in her two weeks of boot camp. How to waste ALL of the resistances ammo and how to talk in capital letters.
you know a class feature is good when it saves their PLAYER from getting headaches...

The guessing password thing is cool, but a bit of a rube golberg when not everything uses the hacking rules. (still usable for flavor though, since my degree is in trees...)
I went with a simpler route of Skill expertise in computers, computer whiz, and skill expertise in engineering. The engineering expertise talents are kinda meh, so she'll grab fast hack next level. Then medicine.

Guess? |

Yeah, BNW is correct. It's not my favorite ruling, as it gives Operatives a pretty significant free damage bump; at least with rolling it isn't a guarantee. (Though usually you're looking at a 5-10% fail chance.)
Okay, correction to my previous statement. Typically, the trick attack flat-footed roll is vs a target's CR. But with the sniper ability, the trick attack roll is vs a target's 1.5*CR. Therefore, Guess? will not auto flat-foot creatures CR13 and below as I had thought. Rather, he will auto flat-foot creatures CR9 and below.
So when Guess? attacks with the take 10, the rolls will look like this:
12-atm extrusion rifle vs KAC: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 (Manual sight reduces range and AC cover bonuses by 2)
Damage (B): 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Trick Attack Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3) = 10 and flat-footed to all, if trick attack succeeded
Targets CR9 and below are auto flat-footed vs trick attack
And if the auto flat-footed fails, then next around, Guess? will roll like this:
Target flat-footed if 1.5*CR is at or below: Trick Attack (Bluff): 1d20 + 19 + 4 - 20 ⇒ (1) + 19 + 4 - 20 = 4
12-atm extrusion rifle vs KAC: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21 (Manual sight reduces range and AC cover bonuses by 2)
Damage (B): 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Trick Attack Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2) = 6 and flat-footed to all, if trick attack succeeded

Del, I know the Witchwarper class has it's balancing issues. If you end up reading through the Enhanced Witchwarper class and like it, I'm fine with you swapping to it. I haven't been keeping up with any previews or reviews of the book, but I trust Paizo to do their balancing well.
Melissa, there is an enhanced envoy coming out in the same book as well.

Haha!
Yes, I will definitely be rebuilding to the enhanced Witchwarper, after release, if allowed.
Yes, I wrote a ton for Starfinder Enhanced, and the whole Starfinder team helped concept all the enhanced classes, but I didn't personally write the enhanced witchwarper. I don't actually recall who on the Starfinder team wrote that one. It was definitely done internally (as in, not written by a freelancer). Regardless, I'm excited to actually do some reality warping! I've used infinite worlds like... once so far? Maybe twice?

Did we ever discuss kalistocrat ranks? I figure plagiarizing scientology rank labels works well enough here?
Yeah from the Starfinder content and author notes on the Kalistocracy, it is definitely inspired by Scientology. Depending on your SF source notes, some sects of Kalistocrats are pyramid schemes, some are legitimate religious organizations (with the associated magics and mysticisms), and others are a science version of striving towards lichdom. With this being a major high level hub for the religion, you'll find more of the latter two types of followers here.
But the real answer to your question is: the source is really clear that there is a very structured hierarchy (like so many other overly structured parts of the kalistocracy) but doesn't mention the specific tiers. Though the Archetype does give some insights to the powers achieved by higher level believers.

Oh my gosh, this guy is crazy, yet also absurdly convenient for the party's mission.
Yeah... in an interview the showrunner (can't remember the actual Paizo title...) mentioned that this character was a late addition suggestion to the author because they felt like the AP was a bit too open ended. This guy gives a nice starting point and some structure.

He (with the help of my terrible dice) also have a good reason to be there. He's watching the security tapes for something interesting, spots a fight, gets a better look, sees number 12 on the kalistocracies most wanted about to start messing with the stations wires and crash the station like they did the EJ under water stations, points us at some rivals and hightails it out of here.

Hey, y'all! I'm in the packing phase of pre-moving right now. So my posting is going to be going down a little bit, but not a lot, for the next six weeks or so. I'm thinking probably 4-5 times a week instead of 5-6 times a week. So I'll be totally moved by Christmas and we can get back into the full swing of things.

The more I think about it, it seems googling people on datapads could/should just be perception. For computers skill that high to matter, it would have to be breaking into gov't or private corp databases and the like.

BigNorseWolf |

i had a raccoon to do me pretty much what melissa is trying to do to this poor lady
Sitting on a rock wall near pool taking a lunch break. there's a big tuplip popular tree right behind me, and an old 1920s civilian concervation corps stone building riddled with critters.
I eat half the sandwhich. I decide i'm hungry enough to eat the second half, put my hand down. The bread is gone. I look down, there's a raccoon lifting a furry paw up for the cheese... while holding my bread.
We both notice each other, pause, then scurry away from each other, and give each other questioning looks like the worlds weirdest patty duke mirror. " you're a nice human right/ Ok you're not rabid despite being out at 12 noon right?...."
I can see she's visibly nursing. So I cut the bread, add mustard, layer up the swiss and american cheese and hand it to her. She wolfs half of it down and scurries up the tree.
I think when I'm sitting down and not thinking about anything I stop registering as a person, and everything thinks i'm part of the scenery.
