I had gone back and reread it at well, but it didn't say one way or the other.
I had assumed it was both ways, thus the wagon to carry all of our ill-gotten gains. Either way, now that were on retainer it matters not.

"Smart. If we get paid for the journey to Dulwich, I don't mind springing for a whole cart, a horse to pull it, and a couple of pack animals. The cart to carry us, the pack animals for when we get into the thick of nature, and then we can use the cart for the way back. We'll travel at a much faster pace than on foot that way. Despite its decayed nature, I'd imagine there are still valuable pieces of furniture stored in the location, and I have a feeling that this place is unknown for a reason by locals. Perhaps overgrown to a point it is no longer seen? We should have enough storage for a household of goods if we are going to make serious coin on this in order to pay for this dagger and enough to split between all of us. Let's hope we weren't lied to."
She looks to those who are coming with them, who she gave the job of securing the renting of horses and supplies for the trip. With them informed, she will be interested in this person's answer.
After this, the deal was interpreted as the way you saw it, but this was the original deal and what we signed, I believe. In either case, it doesn't matter now that we are signing to work for them.

Merion adds to Arren as they go along, Ewan's a good teacher, yes. He's been practicing with me when we've had the chance. More comfortable with the group, including another of the new members, after the trip, he lets himself ramble. But there's a lot of other ways to be useful in a fight. You have magical talent of a sort, no? I've studied a bit as well, and with a bit of preparation I think there's a lot I could do better than just stabbing with a sword. What are some of the tricks you've learned?
Nice job picking up that conversation Merion!

I've done it before in spoilers on character sheets, if I don't close a bracket in one spoiler it locks up the next one. Sadly, you can't go back now and reopen the previous spoiler and check/repair it like you can on a character sheet.

Sorry for my absence of the past few days, family and I finally contracted a case of Covid, so now taking more care of other family members while continuing working from home.

Sorry to hear you had covid! Hope you are doing better. When I had it January 2021 I was out of commission for about 8 days before I even could do anything.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |

I think because you had an 'open format' (the 'bold' format to indicate speech) that did not end at the beginning of the spoiler that it locked up the spoiler. I've done it before on character pages where I use a lot of spoilers.

Taking it as far as we can, and then using the horses. Once we clear out the place, we can make trips back and forth until the wagon is full (assuming there is anything of value to cart out).

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |

Do you think the horses will be safe outside while were in the building? Maybe leave one of the animal companions outside to watch while were inside?
hopefully nothing will mess with the wagon...

Nempura Babblebrook |

I have a feeling the horses can come inside the building and be fine. If it is worn down, there may not be doors or even a roof dependent on how old it is. If it is in good condition (which I'm hoping), they will be fine in the great room. I'm not too concerned about it. The wagon itself will be in the forest and will have cover from probably anyone who sees it if we take efforts to hide it and make sure we know how to get back to it. Plus, other than its base value, there isn't anything important in it currently.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |

That all works for me. If we're going to ride the two 'draft' horses pulling the wagon, we may want saddles. Or Ivar can just lead them not like were going to be moving fast through the forest anyway.

Mr Clint |

I'll throw this out there. I personally would say that unless the spoiler is for your character then you shouldn't read it. Your character would not know the information and it is better when it comes to RP... see the fun scene between Nempura and Ewan. Also, allows for characters to not share things if they don't want to.
If it were up to me, I'd say don't read them and let the story develop in game and in character.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |

Ivar
As Ivar asks for a refill of his waterskin and some food to go the server says; “Why don’t you head on out and I will bring this out to you along with a travel bag.” If Ivar agrees the man sets off to the kitchen. In no time Ivar is handed a bag along with his waterskin; “There you are. Hope you have a safe journey!” And he heads back in.Ivar finishes prepping the horses and wagon for the day ahead.
I'm ok with the retcon, would you have preferred I wrote that he went down stairs and made the request, then waited for your response? Then narrate the rest of it later?

Ewan Scribner |

Hmm... I guess there is a misunderstanding here, Vongyth is the dwarven Stronghold, not the ruins Albin is looking for, those are the ruins of Valentin Ironwolf.

Nempura Babblebrook |

Yup. My mistake. I meant the ruins of Valentin Ironwolf. I had thought perhaps that was the name of the home, as that was what she was inquiring about.

A machete can be purchased at the general store and offer a handy +1 circumstance bonus on Survival.
curious, I never realized that. Interestingly.
A character proficient with a machete gains a +1 circumstance bonus on Survival checks to get along in the wild.
It says a character proficient with a machete gains a + 1 bonus, not a character that has one, Ivar's proficient, he just hasn't purchased one. Does that count?
:)

Just so everyone knows, I have a message out yesterday to Arren. The player is active on the boards so they should see my message today. If there isn't a post come this evening I will bot Arren's turn to get the battle going.
@Ivar Go ahead and roll your reflex save for keeping balance, that would technically take place before combat started.

Nempura Babblebrook |

I am informing my games that I'll be out of town this week. We may have internet. If so, no worries. If not, I will be at the whims of my cellular network. I don't think there will be an issue.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |

Helgar’s horse is nowhere within sight. Once it was spooked after Helgar was pulled from its back, it ran. Helgar needs to make an honest assessment of what items were still on the horse in the saddlebags. You currently do not have those items.
Did Helgar have a horse? She was riding the wagon yesterday, and she doesn't have one on her item list. I assumed she was walking or riding in the wagon...
Edit:and she was walking here before the owlbear attack:
”Heard that deep woods are never empty.” Helgar mused. ”Elves, fey, trolls…then again, most people telling the tales were drunk. So far all I see is trees and more trees.” She said as she stumbled on a root. ”How could anyone live in such a place? Can barely take a step without hitting something.”

Mr Clint |

Anyone ever do any field dressing? Mr Clint how long would it take? I'll go ahead and post/roll in case we want to take the time.
I am no hunter so I called and asked someone who is. They said it can take an hour to properly field dress deer, so something as big as an owlbear I would say a couple hours. Less depending on the total check. But this would also be going on as people are being healed up and horses are being calmed down.

Nempura Babblebrook |

I disagree, as I've done it by myself in minutes. Maybe our definitions of field dressing are different. Field dressing is what you do in the field to degut an animal so the meat doesn't spoil for later consumption. That takes a slice in the gut and a strong hand to yank it all out. It maybe takes 2 minutes.
Butchering the animal, that's a different story. With anything larger than a deer, you oftentimes will segment the body to help you carry it out, but that's not what we are doing. We just want a meal or two each. Ivar can walk up and cut off a leg and we'd eat like kings for the next couple of days. We could leave the rest of the body there (but I'd suggest we drag it away).

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |

Having not 'butchered' anything bigger than a chicken. I figured I'd ask.
Last time I had a character say he was going to skin and butcher a bear, the GM said it'd take the rest of the day.
I understand what Nempura's saying, that's why I asked if we were skinning it for the hide (which is more valuable when whole). In my mind, skinning it would take hours, but cutting a few steaks off would take minutes. But I did want to ask...
So if were just gutting it, cutting back the skin to take a few morsels, then dragging it off of our, now shrub free, path, how long?

Mr Clint |

Yes, I was envisioning butchering/skinning it when I was reading it.
If you are just debuting it to prevent spoiling, that would maybe take 15-20 minutes. Adult owlbears are around 1500 lbs. so it would take a little bit more than a deer.
If you are to quarter it and just take a section or two that would fall under the above time.
The difficult part is how much you can take with you, with the wagon you have pulled by 2 horses, it can haul 1000 lbs. So Decide how much you'd like to take vs what is already in the cart.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |

All Ivar took was one side the ribs and the backstrap in his post. If Nempura wants him to cut off a haunch for later that's fine.
Do we have anything in the small covered wagon?
Sadly the image/website no longer works, but wasn't it similar to this
Ivar would have put his pack and bardiche in the wagon, but what else is in there? Maybe Helgar's pack? Everyone else has horses and we didn't really purchase extra gear. The wagon seemed to be for taking all of the wealth out of the fortress.
I doubt if what Ivar took equals a hundred pounds of meat.

Mr Clint |

Arg! Dead links.. the image was similar to that. For statistics it was a Light Wagon that could haul 2 people and up to 1000 lbs of cargo/belongings.
As far as gear, people who have horses have saddle bags for their gear. Larger items like shovels, tents, or the legendary 10-foot poll would all be on the wagon.

I didn't remember anyone purchasing any of that, I know Ivar didn't, my bad.
