Ezranadir steps into the room, "I did not know we were in that much of a hurry. I'll do the honors," he walks over to the other pillar speaking in the same tone in Thassilonian as Frantino, "Open for the glory of Alaznist!"
"Now let us proceed after Ayita checks for any additional traps on this one." He awaits Ayita's search.

The stone pillar descends into the ground, revealing a half-moon-shaped chamber. This marble-floored rooms is a rich blue hue, though ancient bloodstains discolor much of it. The walls are carved with bas-reliefs depicting naked human figures slitting their own throats, blissful smiles on their faces. Rusty iron manacles hang from chains along the walls and an ancient skeleton lies slumped to the south, a curved sword blade lodged in its ribs as if the long-dead person had plunged the blade into their own chest.
Assuming your detect magics are still going...
The blade radiates a faint aura of necromancy.

Frantino Kaddren |

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (11) + 11 + (1) = 23
Frantino will examine the blade's aura without touching it. "This magical falcata is empowered as strongly as Fury and has an additional property making it more effective against frightened enemies. However, I don't know if it's a good fit for the fighting style of anyone in our group. Is anyone interested in wielding it, or should we put it in the bag of holding? It should certainly fetch a good price if we decide to sell it."

Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |

Nasir sheathes his scimitar, walks up and pulls the blade from the skeleton. He examines the blade and takes a few clumsy swings with it.
"I am intrigued by zis odd weapon, but za weight and size are unfamiliar. I would not be able to make za best use of zis. Let us wrap it up and save it to sell, yes?."
He looks around the room for something to sheath or wrap the blade in before storing it. If Nasir cannot find anything, he will slide the blade between his armor and belt for now.
As he searches for something to secure the blade, he examines the state of the bodies in the room and tries to recall from his studies what might have happened here.

"Well, unless someone else sees a hidden door or hatch then we're back to the big pit to head down into the mountain's interior. I can lead the way by stealthily floating down with the ring of feather fall accompanied by Ayita on her carpet. I could carry Yazhi, too, but then I wouldn't be able to have Fury at the ready. Assuming it's clear, Ayita, can you shuttle the ring back up for those that aren't comfortable climbing down with the rope? It would be better if we could all descend together but that doesn't seem like an option available to us."

Ayita casts Detect Magic and looks around the room too, just to double-check that we're not missing anything. She makes sure to have a light source available so Ter can help more.

It appears to Frantino that the pit to the east once held a stairwell that descended downwards, but the wooden stairs have mostly collapsed, resulting in a 100-footdeep shaft, its walls lined with jutting pieces of wood and stone. A set of ropes have been tied to one stone anchor. The ropes are NOT old or frayed. A new set, it appears.
Recall this post from when you first entered Bloodstone Bunker. Ropes have been set to allow easy access to the shaft.
PLEASE STATE MARCHING ORDER / DESCENT ORDER.

![]() |

I can go first, checking for traps on the way.
Ayita also gets out her carpet in preparation. The carpet can carry two but will be slower if doing so. She's also thinking about her "monkey" hunter focus that will help with her climbing ability, and might cast "Carry Companion" on Yazhi to get her down safely.
I'm a decent climber, and could use the rope so others can use the carpet and perhaps also cover our descent.

Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |

"Yes, you and Frantino should go down first and zen Roscoe Elring. Next should come Gregory C. Hatfield followed by Ezranadir and I will bring up za rear, yes? Let us get started."
Nasir takes up a position near the hole to watch that nothing comes up and also to make sure that nothing comes out of any other undiscovered secret passages.

Frantino Kaddren |

"Ayita, I can carry Yazhi so you can save a spell slot. I can't control or stop my descent while slowly falling so I should let you go first to start checking things out and your hands can be free. If you're halfway down and things are looking good I'll make the leap and hopefully we'll both reach bottom at about the same time. Once I can set Yazhi down I'll grab Fury and we can jointly do a quick scan while making sure each other's back is covered. Others can start the descent on the rope, or we can shuttle the ring up to ensure safety."
Frantino will specifically inspect the rope and its mooring to make sure it's not trapped, should one of us opt to use it.

There's a door that is closed, preventing light from entering that room (and presumably your token, as well). I've opened the door and moved you into it, assuming somebody says, "Open in the name of Alaznist!"
Who says it? Roscoe?

Grand Hall of Forges
Ayita descends into darkness, followed by Frantino and (carried) Yazhi. They touch down and stare out at a room. Ayita can see nothing, as it is utterly dark. Frantino, with his darkvision, sees a long chamber stretching out before him.
A collection of huge forges lies dormant along the walls of this long room, its vaulted ceiling twenty-five feet above. The walls are still stained with the soot of the fiery business that once went on here, and long-dead coals are piled in the cold furnaces. The blast of three of the forges seems to have scorched the floor. To the east, Frantino looks back up the shaft he just came down. It is partially filled with an old, collapsed stairway rises upward.
I've moved all of you to a new map on Roll20
LIGHTING: Ayita, you don't have a light source. Roscoe and Nasir, upstairs, have it. That's why it is black for you.
@OTHERS - I've moved you on the map, so you can follow along visually, but you're still technically above in the previous room. i've given your tokens nightvision in Roll20 to allow you to watch. Once you come down, I'll place you and adjust your light/vision settings.

Yes Ayita can have a light source if Doc does not need her "light" cantrip.

We'll signal to the others that it's safe to descend. Not sure who's comfortable using the rope and who will want to put their trust in the ring, if Ayita is willing to shuttle it back up.

"Gregory C. Hatfield & Ezranadir, your turn. I will be the last down."
Grumbling under his breath to disguise his fear of heights, Hatfield complains: "I'm a healer, not a mountain climber!"

GM Derek |

Doc and Ezranadir descend safely to the floor of the Forges of Wrath, joining Frantino and Ayita.
Doc and Ayita's light spells illuminate the room for everybody.
Tell me if you can see. Everybody should have vision now. @EZRANADIR you should've had vision before. If you don't, please reload the game.

Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |

Once everyone is safely down, Nasir sheathes his sword, stows his shield and climbs down.

![]() |

Do we see that token just at the edge of vision?
"Do not sheathe your sword just yet, Nasir. We may still at every turn be in danger. I would recommend not sheathing it at all at the least whilst down here." He points and directs everyone's gaze down the hall. "Something may lurk in the darkness."

GM Derek |

Do we see that token just at the edge of vision?
Yes. To the west, an immense iron gate stands slightly ajar before a room beyond. A badly burnt body lies slumped near this gate.

Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |

Nasir gets to the bottom and takes out his sword and shield again.
"Do not worry, Ezranadir. I will not let my guard down, but it is very difficult to climb za rope with my hands full. I am ready now to continue to search."
Nasir steps forward to move up in tandem with Frantino.
"Ayita, come join us. Zis area looks ripe for za traps. Your eyes are needed here, yes?

Frantino Kaddren |

Frantino will cast detect magic and move forward carefully with Ayita and Nasir, watching for traps on the left side.
Perception: 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 15 + 1 = 20
What are these things on the right and left? Is that flame damage on the ground in front of them? If the map's highlights are accurate, it looks like we'll have to go to the far left, then the far right, then back to the left to get past them without getting torched.
Assuming we aren't attacked, burned, or blown up, Frantino will examine the body. Does it look like the three crazies that tried to attack and eat us outside? Can Frantino tell how he died?

As Frantino walks past the three forges that don't show fire damage, they begin to glow. Their coals burning a deep, angry red.
Frantino's detect magic shows enchantment magic and evocation magic. His experience suggests magic weapons were created here.
When he arrives at the body, he notices the similarity to the men above ground that previously attacked them. This one still clutches a longsword and wears his hide armor, but any other gear is missing.

Frantino Kaddren |

They are forges.
D'oh, that explains the name Grand Hall of Forges.
Frantino will wait for Ayita to examine the forges to see if they're part of a trap before advancing past them. Even if she says it's clear, he's likely to zigzag back and forth to avoid the scorch marks on the ground anyway. Ninja'd!
A badly burnt body lies slumped near this gate.
Sure, that might be the cause of death, or perhaps the body was burned post-mortem to hide the actual cause of death. We might watch a lot of police procedurals and murder-mysteries in my house... So says the detective investigator. Probably why the 1e investigator is my wife's favorite class (followed by barbarian).

Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |

Preferring not to have to avoid gouts of fire, Nasir waits for Ayita to give the all clear.

She examines the cold forges, each with burn marks upon the floor. When she touches the coals, they are... not cold. These were likely hot... a day ago? Two days ago?
Ayita cannot find any traps, but her examination of the cold forges finds footprints (or maybe hand prints?) in the ash. Immediately in front of each cold forge is ash residue spilled out onto the floor.
Something has climbed out of these forges.
As she examines the newly glowing coals of the other, undisturbed forges, she finds them hot. And getting hotter. Rapidly.
Suddenly, a piercing howl of agony rings forth from the forge she is examining. She and Frantino are close enough that the howl begins to hurt their ears! She stumbles back, holding her hands against her ears.
From the forge crawls a charred black thing, bipedal, its flesh a raging inferno surrounded by greasy black smoke. From it comes the piercing shriek of perpetual burning pain!
