Frantino will move into the hallway and draw his flask of alchemist's fire.
"There's paperwork in here? I'd rather not destroy it with the bugs."

"Don't worry about the papers!" Roscoe exclaims. "I think they're coming to us! Get out of there!"
Roscoe readies to throw the acid flask once he can keep it away from any valuable papers.

Honestly, it appears to be a china cabinet that's turned over. And the rest of the rooms seems to be a dining room. The likelihood of "papers" is small.

Nice damage!

Kheiron Althus |

YES!
Roscoe’s flask, bubbling and burning the spiders, disperses the swarm. The remaining spiders scurry away into the nooks, crannies and cracks of the room.
COMBAT OVER!
GM Derek |
Now that the spider swarm is dissipated, the friends can flip the cabinet over. Inside you find that most of the earthenware and porcelain dishes were shattered when it tipped over, many years ago. But you do find a silver serving set worth 70gp, a silver decanter worth 35 gp, and a set of six copper mugs worth 15 gp altogether.
Loot!
You all seem to struggle a bit with investigation of the cabinet, as nobody has a torch with them. The only light is Roscoe's glowing morningstar and a bit of light filtering in from the hallway.
@Doc Hatfield, hard to tell without adequate light, but there's a door nearly in front of you, unopened.

Ayita does have 2 torches, and flint and steel -- and we had a discussion that a couple folks have "light", if that helps.

There's a light pebble in the hallway, a torch in the hallway on the ground, and the glowing morningstar of Roscoe. If you want to light a torch, as well, I will "group" it with your token so you are always emitting light?

Torch lit and grouped to you. "Let there be light!"
Where to now, folks?
Roscoe Elring - Champion |
Roscoe looks at his now-depleted bandolier. "I only have one acid flask left. Let's hope that's the last of them."
As they find the valuables, he whistles. "Well now--I can replenish my supplies later, it would seem. This venture is turning out to be profitable already."
Roscoe retrieves his everburning torch and takes the lead. "Let's try this door to the left," he says, opening it.
Should be into the southwest corner of the house.

NOTE: "Left" on the map is North. Sorry. Dunno why Paizo decides to orient maps like this.
You all walk down the hallway leading north. Two doors stand opposite each other in the hallway, one to the west and one to the east. Both are cracked open and upon gently opening them, Roscoe's light casts flickering shadows into each room.
Room A8
To the east (up) is obviously the kitchen. A sickeningly sweet scent hangs in this room’s otherwise stale air. Mold and fungus grow up the side of the northern walls, and what was once a table lies decayed and slumped to the floor at an angle. A door and a stone hearth occupy the west wall of the room, the oven’s door slightly ajar.
Room A9
To the west (down) is the family room. A moldering sofa sits along the south wall of this room, and once-comfortable chairs sit in front of mold-covered windows.
Roscoe Elring - Champion |
Roscoe looks around with his head tilted to the side.
"I have experience with the paranormal. I hear--children giggling," he says. "But it seems out of place here. Be on your guard."
He takes a step into what was once the family room.

As you step into the room and illuminate it fully, you see Sir Roderic and his family! Roderic sits in a wooden chair. A cute little girl sits upon Roderic’s knee while his other two children sit on the floor around him, listening to him read. A woman, likely Roderic’s wife, Andella, sits next to him on a chair doing needlepoint.
As you step closer and file into the room, the family suddenly decays, their skin sloughing away in wisps of shadows! The two little children's hollow eye sockets turn and look at you. The little girl slips off Roderic's now skeletal lap and faces you, her skin rapidly decaying, maggots eating her face off at an accelerated pace. Her little skull looks at you as her eyeballs turn to dust and blow away. She raises a single, bony finger and points at you accusingly. "Daddy..." her hollow, disembodied voice says.
Roderic stands suddenly and screams, “GET OUT!” in a long, gasping shout.
Will DC12 saves, please. Fail=you are affected by cause fear.

Roscoe is hardly shaken at all by the macabre scene.
"We aren't here to hurt anyone--just to help," he says reassuringly.
