Only my second P2 character so no idea if those are okay for a Champion or if I'm going to die rather quickly XD

Stats are no guarantee of anything, you can still die rather quickly regardless.

Joking aside, there's not that many ways to wrongly build a character at level 1. As long as you make reasonable stat choices for your chosen role, you'll have a playable character.

In any case, you have a level to decide if you like how it's built, and make changes freely. So no need to sweat it.

That's my opinion, anyway.

You all seem to be making good progress under the wonderful supervision of Logsig/Lusinel (Thank you!).

I think I will hold off posting any more instructions today to give everyone time to work on refining things so far and reading through the Guide to Play.

I will reiterate what others have said. Save often when editing your character sheet. I try to save after every section, no matter how small.

Also, copy > preview > edit if necessary > copy > preview > post anything more than a few words and definitely preview anything with code in it.

Hi, Pip! Nice to meet you!

Why do some characters have header stats in blue?
On some profiles, like Pip's, a lot of things are listed in the [dice] expression. What is this for? What is a Botting Spoiler/Bot?

For headers you can get things in blue by wrapping them in the {ooc} tags like you would a post.

The dice are there for ease of access I assume when running her, just copy and paste rather than having to type out the dice equation each time.

Redd, I'll try to answer and the more experienced can expand.

In general, spoilers are parts of the post that are collapsed behind a button, either to save space or because they may not be accessible. Botting spoilers are parts of the profile that can be used to keep a character active when the player can't post in a timely fashion.

In the botting case, it's in a spoiler to keep the profile readable, as there is a lot of text that you only care about rarely.

Sometimes in play my last GM would post something behind a spoiler tag, with a skill check to reveal. Then characters could make the skill check, and the first success would let the players see behind the spoiler. It was on the honor system to not look until the skill check was made, but it speeds things up.

the dice expressions are turned into random numbers, they're put in the botting so you can just copy them out and paste them into the post. I sometimes did that just for my own posts, to save typing. The dice roll should look like {dice=test}1d20+0{dice} (replace curly braces with square) turns into
test: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1

One nice thing is that the die roll doesn't change if you preview your post before submitting, so you can immediately react.

Great, says Ravant. Try to test the dice, drop it in my beer.

Redd picks up the die, crawls up onto and stands on a human-sized chair next to the table that the flagon of ale rests on. She steadies her hand a couple feet above the frosty mug, squinting to help her aim. I think I can do this, she thinks to herself...

drops into beer: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11

Redd opens her eyes wide with joy after hearing the "splish" from the die being dropped.

How'd I do?, she asks with a big grin on her rosy face.

I have no idea.

Well, visually, if the app icon for Edge is a swirly blue and green thing then it's Edge Chromium. If it's just a plain blue 'e', then it's the old incarnation of Edge.

Also if you're on Edge Chromium, the version details can be found in [...] > Settings > Help and Feedback > About Microsoft Edge. It will say it's based on Chromium here.

If you're still on the old Edge and you'd like to upgrade, the new one can be downloaded from Microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/. You can have both Edges installed on the same computer.

Paizo Campaign Tools is in the Chrome web store here. It's nice to have, but not strictly needed for anything, so if you can't be bothered, you don't have to.

Okay, I now have Edge Chromium, I guess. In the store, how do I buy the Tools?

Apparently, now I DON'T have to change my background. Still figuring this stuff out. Will have to do the "header" later. Need to go to work.

Great answer Old Dog/hsider!

Another use of the botting section is so the GM can see what your relevant modifiers are when they make secret rolls involving you. Secret rolls happen in situations where the players are not supposed to know whether they succeeded or failed (and players can usually guess if they succeeded or not, based on the number rolled). There are sometimes situations where even the mere fact of a certain skill roll being attempted would give players information their characters wouldn't know.

The most common uses of secret rolls are:
1. Recall Knowledge
2. Gather Information
3. Certain situations involving Stealth or Perception

For example, the consequence of crit-failing a Recall Knowledge or Gather Information is often that the player is given false knowledge, but this could be easily metagamed if the player knew they rolled badly.

[To be clear, I'm not saying that players can't be trusted not to metagame - merely that this is the design philosophy behind why secret rolls exist and are common in PFS2 scenarios.]

Thomas Keller wrote:

It's free. In your new Edge browser, navigate to the Tools' Store page, and click on the big 'Add to Chrome' button on the right side. Follow the prompts that come up. This will install the extension into Edge Chromium.

AN EXPLANATION OF BOTTING

Thomas Keller wrote:
By the way, what the heck is "botting"?

Click. Whirr.

A little robot flies into the room. Greetings, inferior flesh entities.

I am Bot Buddy. I am a character emulation program. If you are away from your game for over 24 hours due to work, illness or having your small flesh entities called 'children' tie you to a chair, I will come in and post your combat actions and skill checks.

Mua. Ha. Ha. Who needs PCs?

Actually, it will likely not be me. This isn't my game, after all. But Bot Buddy is one of the ways GM Hmm bots people so that everyone else doesn't have to wait. I will also sometimes ask in a fast-moving game (aka a special) if players can bot each other.

Because I am an superior unit, I wrote Bot Buddy's Guide to Play-by-Post Character Botting. The robot gestures to a holographic document, floating in the air. You don't have to read all of it -- it's aimed at GMs. However, botting is quite simple:

1) If a character does not post for 24 hours, generally speaking it's fair to post a combat action or necessary skill check for them. This will keep the game moving.

2) You can also bot if someone posts in discussion that they are busy and are asking for a bot.

3) This is infinitely easier if the character has a botting spoiler.

Pip comes in, ducking her head under the floating Bot Buddy. It's not hard for her to get under him... she's less than three feet tall.

"So, let's talk about what goes into a botting spoiler, alright?"

Pip turns and displays her botting spoiler. "Mine is really elaborate, because I'm lazy. I like to have all my likely dice expressions in there, because I copy and paste them straight into my posts to save me posting time. The number one user of my botting spoiler is me."

The gnome grins. "Yes, that's right. ME."

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Pip attempts a cartwheel to show off, and but just sort of lamely rolls around the ground instead. "Did you see that dice roll? I didn't type it in. I copied and pasted it. Same with this arrow attack at Bot Buddy."

Short bow+I.C.: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 1 = 24
Piercing damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Deadly?: 1d10 ⇒ 10

"Not having to type in your most common rolls saves time, which you can then devote to the fun roleplay stuff!"

Pip grins and waves at the robot, to indicate no hard feelings. "So let's look at what I consider the most essential parts of a botting spoiler."

PART 1: TACTICS

GMs tend to be fairly cautious when botting players. They don't want to use your limited resources like non-cantrip spells or potions. If you want others to use your limited resources (healing spells or potions or alchemical items) write it into your botting spoiler.

Pip's botting spoiler has a very short tactics section that says:

Pip's Botting Spoiler wrote:
Pip likes using her skills to help people. She has awesome bardic lore, so feel free to roll on any knowledge. In combat, she inspires courage, intimidates or shoots bows and arrows. She also likes to cast Magic Weapon on martial types in tough fights.

It's short, it's simple, and it allows the GM and other players to know that it's okay to use Pip's bigger spells on a tough fight. A fighter might have other types of tactics, mentioning liking to attack twice and use their last action to raise their shield. Just think about how you might act in combat and write 2-5 sentences about it.

PART 2: DICE EXPRESSIONS

You do not have to go as crazy as I did here. But at bare minimum you should have the dice expressions for your most common attacks, so that it's easy for the GM and other players to bot you. And for you to save time in your own posts!

Hi, I’m GM Bret and since HMM asked me to read her posts I thought I would add a few comments of my own.

With PF2, I have started asking that players post their Reactions in their botting instructions and make it easy for me to find.

An example from one of my characters to illustrate:

Reaction: Recognize Spell
Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Occult: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

In PF1 a door procedure can be extremely useful. You can see an example of this on my Core character.

I also have a few aliases I use, one for botting and as a player one for summons which I have templates to cut and paste into the alias.

Yay! You're asking questions!

It is very possible for PbP groups to dither in dungeons. "Doors" (the moment before you enter rooms) are one of the worst enemies of PbP. Faced with so many decision points, many groups will stall out as they wait for other players to decide directions and test for traps.

Having a standard door opening procedure can help take out the delays. This can include:

1) Marching order
2) The rogue or someone else announcing that they will check for traps on doors
3) Which party member will open the door.

Having one of these in place can help the GM roll you automatically into the next rooms, speeding up play. I also suggest that groups plan their routes 5 rooms ahead, so that the GM can stop them when they hit something, and push them ahead when the room turns out to be empty.

Thomas Keller wrote:

"door procedure"? What's that?

This is mostly about PF1 and Starfinder. In PF2 you have the exploration activities that basically tell the GM who needs to make what secret rolls.

In PbP doors can be a huge timesink, especially if you have multiple doors. Hopefully the party just agrees that first two people to post decide which direction the group goes or Harvy-Wallbanger Left so that the GM can just run you past doors that have nothing interesting. You don't want to have to wait for every player to post before deciding which direction the party is going.

My Core Rogue/Wizard (link in previous post) has skills and class abilities that are applicable any time there might be a trap. I have put them in my botting area so that the GM can just make those rolls (often under a spoiler) and immediately give a result as part of the post.

Ideally, the GM would get agreement from a group and be able to BOT all the rolls when entering an area or going through a door.

----
Example:

Door Procedure:
Door procedure, when not rushed.

At each door, check for sounds or traps. Take 10 then roll twice.
Perception: 10 + 9 = 19 +1 to detect traps
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 +1 to detect traps
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 +1 to detect traps

No trap found!
Not locked.

As Iovo opens the iron door into the next room, she gets a shock! Evidently there was a very well hidden trap on the door.
Electric damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7
Reflex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

---

Now in most cases, all that the players see is the Door Procedure spoiler. After a while, people get so used to seeing it that they don't bother reading it any more. It becomes a part of the standard operating procedure.

When there is a trap found, you even have instructions for how to deal with it that would be included in the spoiler. The text outside the spoiler could be something like...

Iovo finds a trap and is able to successfully disable it this time.

Does the above make sense and can you understand how this would speed up a PbP?

You can see the name? All I see is a small diamond, no letters.

Salliss, I see the words "Vigilant Seal" to the left of your name.

The small diamond is the symbol for your faction which is what should be showing. The reason why the words "vigilant seal" are appearing is because they're still trying to work out the kinks to get just the V.S. symbol to show up. Everyone will soon have just their faction symbol showing.

No worries, turns out it was the Homepage URL. I just moved it to a link in the About section.
