I'm hoping we can get some directions/lessons & slides on how to make gameplay posts. Game has started and I've been asked to introduce myself "in character" in logsig's gameplay thread.
Oh! Someone else posted first. I'll use that as a guide.
Oh, dear. Of course they'll want some guidance, Pip thinks.
"Hello, this is Pip again from the Envoy Alliance legal team. We're here to talk about introductions in PBPs!" The little green haired gnome stands up on a crate and waves. "Can everyone see me? I'd like it if the tall people let the short people come in front." She waits for a moment as everyone reassembles themselves. "Here are some of the things you can do!" She holds up one finger. "First, describe your actions in THIRD PERSON, just like you were writing a novel! Write out your actions, and don't be afraid to show your character doing fun things, like balancing on one leg."
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Pip holds both arms out and has to stick out her tongue, her whole body wavering. "Er... only do it better than I do!" She looks around. "Who else wants to try this? Redd? Hammer? Ornaculus? Come on, say hello in character. Give it a try."
She jumps off her soap box, to allow others to step up and experiment.
BOLD your dialogue. Use ITALICS for thoughts. Be a little descriptive, and provide hooks for other players to work on. React to other people's pieces of dialogue.
You can also look at Pip's first post in this discussion thread for an idea of how someone might introduce themselves.

For Numbats how-to slides -- yes keep using them. They're really educational.
My group needs to go to my game thread, and start from there. I have a map slideshow for them linked in my GM header! It's a copy of the one that Numbat has for her group.
Hmm

For those of us remaining under Numbat's tender ministrations, should we do character intros in this campaign's Gameplay thread, or will this be repurposed as more of a pseudo-lodge collective space?

Numbat told me she's had computer problems. I've asked her if she wants me to start you folks off. If she says yes, I'll probably just keep you here in the primary gameplay. I still am waiting for my last player to find my gameplay. If they do not show up in 24 hours, I may have to recruit a replacement player from Cottonseed.
Hmm
GM Hmm |
Can Numbat's group post here so I know they're ready?
GM Hmm |
Well, that is two. I want to see if all four of you are active and still checking in. Thanks!
Sara Bright |
Looks like Saturday posted a couple of days ago and knew about the group split, so hopefully they will check in soon. Razpen posted Friday and may not have realized at that point that gameplay was close to starting...hopefully they show?

Hey guys. Between not feeling well earlier in the day and a hard computer crash later, yesterday was a challenge.
I am back. I need to catch up on my Multi-table special as a priority and then I will be back to write more and start my four Pathfinders in the game.
*offers hugs*
GM Hmm |
Good to see you back, Numbat. If you need anything, let me know, okay?

We're ready, eager, but patient. Take care of yourself, number one, and we'll be here when you're set.

Jayson, Razpen, Sara, and Saturday - the link to your game slides is now in my header as well as at the top of this campaign.
Please check slide one to make sure I have your character token correct. Let me know if you object to the colour border or have any particular requests.
Alaize - as GM Hmm's table has already started, if you would be more comfortable joining us then please let me know. You would be welcome.
If you are on my table, please complete this form with the requested information. This is how I gather what I need to provide your chronicle sheets and to report the game.

Your first gameplay posts are ready.
(And now I know I need a set of slides with PFS2 specifics.)
Secret checks can be done in several ways. I am still experimenting with what works best. This game I have chosen to allow the players to make the rolls but to make them in spoilers. Please do not look at the results.
Secret checks are usually done when making a critical failure (10 below the DC) would change the result and/or the character would not know they had failed.

Alaize is still welcome at me table too. We're doing a pretty slow start! Or she can go to Numbat's! I'm good with either!

Could you make this my token, instead? Thanks!

Jayson Ghita wrote:The form won't let me enter my character number.Okay, I just entered the suffix number. I hope this is correct.
Your character number should be 2001 as this is your first PFS2 character. Though sometimes you see people speak of there [Organized Play Number - Character Number] as their character number, so it can be confusing. The two together provide the unique identifier for that character.

I should be able to do something. This is a good opportunity though to discuss what can become an issue. If multiple players all want to use personal art for their character tokens it can start to become more difficult to track who is who (with the posts having Paizo art and the tokens having different art), especially when some of those characters are very similar.
In this case, it should be fine though.

A quick note regarding PF2 - Aid Another is really quite challenging at low levels. The standard DC for Aid Another is 20, higher than the usual DCs for low-level checks.
Also, encouraged in the game, allowed by PFS2, and generally encouraged by me as a GM, if you wish to use a different skill than listed, anywhere in the adventure, you may propose how you would do so. If it makes sense to me and is legal and reasonable to do so, I will allow it. Sometimes this will mean the DC is adjusted slightly.
Also, GMs are allowed to grant small bonuses for great role-play when appropriate. No pressure. PbP is a great medium to develop those skills though, so feel free.

Yes, I have been calculating in bonuses for good roleplay with my group! They're doing great!

In PbP GMs will often use "the rule of two" to keep a game moving. That means if there is a choice to be made then once two characters or players have agreed, the GM goes with that as a decision. We usually will not do that for major decisions that may affect the outcome of the game, but for who to speak to next, or which road to take, etc, it works quite well.

I made the assumption my roll was to recall knowledge and thus secret, was that erroneous?
PFS2 has more of an emphasis on secret rolls than the other Paizo systems. In part, this is because now, almost any roll has a chance at a critical failure as well as a critical success.
As such, until specified by the GM, it is not unwise to assume that a secret check may be in order. In this case, while there are consequences, it will be quite apparent if you have succeeded or not so during the party you do not need to make any secret checks.
Sara Bright |
Where (and when) should we indicate our Training-related consumable selections? I was thinking of putting it in my "PFS Info" section, but I could also see it going in with the rest of my Equipment...any suggestions?
Barb Ahalak |
Many GMs ask for you to state what you are taking either in discussion or gameplay but I will also list in under a separate spoiler for in-game.
Have a look at Barb's.
This is also where I would put something found or gifted (like the scroll) during the game. It is an easy way to track it without the confusion of what is available only during that adventure versus what will carry forward.

I am going to ask players to post an OOC comment if they are role-playing but choosing not to make a skill check. That way I know if it is a deliberate choice or if you forgot.
Also, a reminder that apart from the skills listed for each NPC you can use Diplomacy or Deception or provide a good rationale for how you would use another skill. Creative solutions are encouraged.

This is still in effect, I believe.
