As the troop approached Zarash’ak, Tharivol introduced himself again as Gilavar Throndel reminding that his House competed with Tharashk, so the attention would not be welcome. He used Prestidigitation to clean and freshen his outfit readying it for civilization.

Action 2
With a bright Elven grin, he replies, "Bava Bibahronaz, it is a genuine pleasure to make your acquaintance and inviting us within your home. Please allow me to introduce myself, Gilavar Throndel, traveling minstrel. And some of our story, I've chronicled in song."

Action 2

Bria nodded a Bava and offered a brief smile, he eyes tracked across all the new faces and she tried very hard to not feel hemmed in amongst the assembled throng of people.

Liti sniffed the air then dashed off in the direction of the last meat vendor the party had been past.

Briar deferred to Tharivol to speak first, yet couldn't help look searchingly towards the sky for a moment when he mentioned chonicling the group's story in song.

Turn 129 - Bava

Read the OOC.

Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?

Action 1:

"I won't say no to a home-cooked meal." said Artur, smiling, "But I also won't eat without doing something to repay you in some manner. I'll help with the dishes when we're done."

Artur took off his jacket and weapons and then, winking at one of the kids, stored all of it in his metal pack, then locked his case and set it down before sitting down himself.

That was when he saw the painting. He stared at it for several moments, then shook his head to clear head as the meal came out.

Action 2:

Artur's eyes widen as he hears her story and sees the food offered, but he says nothing; instead, he ate what was offered.

True to his word, when the meal was over, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work washing dishes. As he worked, his metal arm made mechanical noises one the dishes.

As he worked, he thought.

Later, Artur approached Nyd and quietly asked "Do you have silence memorized?"

Action 1

Veratash let himself be taken inside and keenly observed the out of ordinary house. He let his attention linger at the large painting, trying to absorb every piece of it.

Action 2

Veratash ate like it was his last meal, savoring every bite. He didn't feel like he was in danger, but it had been very long since he had a decent meal without leaches sucking his blood. As Orshok and Bava exchange pleasantries, he considers the two.

Insight: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

As Bava asked them what she can do for them, Veratash nearly lost his appetite. He swallowed what he was eating and said "We're after a great evil. A kidnapper, torturer and murderer who until recently has been leading the Bonetree clan. He is known as Dah'mir."

Nyd shook his head slowly at Arthur's request. "Sadly, that's not a spell I have recovered. Do you wish to do some infiltration, or do you have another idea in mind?"

Performance: 1d20 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (13) + 6 + (4) = 23

The name Bava danced on the tip of Tharivol's tongue until he saw the painting of unmistakable style. "Gentlemen, this woman must be Bava Bahron. The greatest painter of the Shadow Marches. Her paintings hand in every major museum. Wynam has her Golden Asp, and the Royal Collection of Aundair displays her Union of Tharashk. She is a living legend."

"I was thinking something more along the lines of...construction based." Artur nods towards several places that could use construction help.

Briar was oblivious to the artwork, but as Tharivol mentioned the credentials of Bava as an artist she smiled politely.

"I'm no art person, but they look well done. I like the family one."

She nodded her head at the grand painting full of orcs, half-orcs and humans.

"More importantly, I've seen many orphans and outcasts even in my short years. You are an honourable person, a wonderful heart, and I thank you on behalf of those who would be lost without you. "

She raised a glass of wine in a toast, taking a small sip.

"As Veratash says, we're hunting. Looking to engage the Finder's guild."

Nyd strokes his chin, a gesture he has seen other people use. "Hmm, perhaps I can use my prepared castings of Repair Warforged as an improvised repair spell?"

male

OK, no moving these games forward, at least for the time being. :(

I am not feeling excited about these 5e Eberron games for different reasons. The Eyes of the Lich Queen is a commercial game that has a story that is hard to swallow (hard too suspend belief even for a fantasy game) with an ending that I will have to totally redesign.

The Against the Dragon Below game is a homebrew game that is modeled after a series of books that is getting harder and harder to play out (too time consuming).

Most importantly, I'm just not feeling like 'reading' about Eberron. I'm sure you have all noticed my slow response rate, a clear sign that I'm losing interest.

Instead of stopping these games outright, I am going to take a two-week break and see how I feel about them.

Like I tell all of you, when the game becomes a chore then it is time to do something that interests you.

Most of you know me, and I won't be able to stay away from this creative medium for too long but we'll see what strikes my fancy next (maye even these games).

I'll stay in touch so please do the same.

I totally understand. No one should do something aren't happy with.

Completely understood, and I'd like to thank you for your honesty in letting us know your thoughts.

This was my first foray in to 5th edition and I've really enjoyed it, thanks to all of you for all the moments, both humorous and poignant, that we've experienced together over the last few months :)

Full OOC post:

Thank you for your honesty. Since we taking a break, would you care for some feedback about the game? If not, stop reading now XD

Positive points:
You are the most listening DM I have ever encountered, and that's saying something. I've never felt more catered to (in a good way) than with you. Another very positive thing is how dedicated you are at keeping the game interesting. This investment is probably why you feel a little drained right now, but know that it also makes you special.

Things that I didn't like that are not your fault:
I didn't really get into the spirit of Eberron. This was my first contact with it, and I feel there is much richness about it that is just whooshing past me. This is probably my fault for not researching enough. All I've read about is mostly kalashtar and dragonmarks (to some degree). A consequence of this is that I feel that there's much that Veratash could feel, say and do that he just doesn't because I don't really feel very much in the world.

Things on which I think you could improve:
At some times, I feel like we've been railroaded (such as with all the dealings with the fat tusk tribe), and other times I feel we didn't really know what to do (such as after the victory over the bonetusk). I say this somewhat freely because I am very very much guilty of it myself as a DM. I tend to put problems with no hint about what to do, because I hope the players will feel accomplished if they figure it out themselves. Of course that rarely happens, but something I found works well is to give hints gradually, like first a gentle nudge, but then eventually slapping them in the face with it if they don't get it. I like to have them roll Insight (an important 5e skill) to get some ideas spontaneously. I saw you did something similar there, but I still think we were sort of lost.
A minor thing is that I prefer a smoother approach to the story, instead of the recaps, but I understand that's just a matter of style.

More positive things to close this:
You gave life to this story. I feel like the actions and feelings are real. I really really hate Dah'mir and want to piss on his dead carcass. I feel the orc's struggle in Zarash'ak and the city buzzing with movement and trading. Not everyone can do that.

Veratash has grown, and I'll be here keeping him breathing to close his arc. I've even thought of retirement plans for him. I think he'll want to join the gatekeepers.

You...

Thank you very much for the feedback!

I feel I need to respond, not to excuse myself but rather to explain my rationale in doing certain things a certain way.

My main goal here is to keep everyone interested and engaged in the story (including myself).

The railroad vs options is a very fine line to walk. There are times when I thought that no hint would be needed and other times when I just thought that you would feel that you were part of a story that was already written. I ended up allowing for you guys to figure things out (I tried to provide at least two ways of solving issues) and the rolling 'insight/intelligence' checks and provide more and more hints. However, this inevitably slowed down the tempo of the game, something that is very fragile in PBP games.

I like turn recaps for obvious reasons already stated (summarizing actions during combat, keeping track of status and/or expendables, providing pics/maps/etc.). However, I recognize that there are other ways of accomplishing similar things. However, I have found out that the single most important benefit of turn recaps is allowing for the different actions to occur simultaneously in real time. This would be impossible to accomplish otherwise without slowing down the game (i.e., having each action come to a conclusion before moving on to the next one) or having two game threads open at the same time.

Anyway, I'm glad you are enjoying (enjoyed?) the story. The character development that occurred with Veratash did not go unnoticed.

I really dig your turn recap/typed up style.

Do you think it might be possible to get a single PDF of all the turns rolled into one? I'd do it myself, but I figured If you have the files all in one location it might be faster to ask.

male

All the files, along with other stuff I shared for the game, are here for online reading.

If you wanted to do some offline reading then you would have to PDF the files.

I am very grateful that you have been running. It's been fun, but I want you to take all the time you need.

I'm putting the posts together and removing the gameplay stuff, then I'll organize everything by date to make it one continuous story, and I'll post a link for everyone to grab from when I'm done.

That would be great!

Thanks!

Hey people,

I'd like to continue this story if you guys are up for it.

Let me know who's still around and wants to come along for part two and I'll move things along or recruit new players if necessary.

Questions?

Nice!

I'm still here. Been working on a super complex character submission for a game here, but I'm still around.

EDIT: Also still putting together PDFs into one mega book, but my available time has been someone...taken up.

male

Hey, thanks for the vote of confidence.

However, we can't play with just two PCs. :(

I'll wait a couple of days to see if anyone else is interested (given that it is the weekend) before making my decision.

Game on!

That's totally fair. If you do end up recruiting more people, I'd want to make a minor change to Artur, cause I know I mentioned wanting to make an Iron Man style suit: and then unearthed arcana released a subclass for artificers that is basically Iron Man.

Sorry for the delay in my response, my last few days have been none-stop chores. And bad sleep on top of that.

I am enjoying the campaign a lot, but to be honest, I'm not sure how much Nyd is contributing to things. Not just in combat mind you, but in almost any situation. My RP game isn't strong either, though that is mostly on me as a player.

I've always felt that Nyd was the common sense person in the group.

Well, I guess we'll archive this game then.

Thanks everyone and happy gaming!
