Champion's Challenge (2E)

Game Master Reckless

Alrighty, time to see how ast this dune buggy can go.

What you give: A fully statted 20th level 2E character, using the format on the campaign tab. A backstory including the elements of your ABCs. At least one significant post every weekday(M-F).

What you get: A GM who will make at least one significant post every weekday and most often more than one. A challenging encounter in a party-selected arena.

Where you start: Once you have a completed character, drop on by in alias to The Champion's Alehouse where you'll meet like-minded allies who just want to fight for glory in the arena.

What you do: Role-Play with the other Champions in the Alehouse and see if you can't parley your way into a group. Once you've got a four-member group, pick your arena and get ready for battle.

What the heck????!?? Ok, so, the idea here is that you will make 20th level 2E characters, role-play them in the Champion's Alehouse thread (available by invite once your character is done to my specifications and reviewed), and try to find other people who want to face the arena with your PC. At the very least, you'll have some chances to RP high level PCs.
If we can get 4 people who agree to play together there, they can pick out one of the available arenas to face their encounter in. PCs will be facing an Extreme Threat Encounter with all their resources available in a challenging environment.

I will either run this for the first three groups to get together or run an arena for the first two groups and then run a third one for PvP action if we have less recruits. I will likely stagger the start of each arena by a week to make sure we have things rolling in one before starting another. If we do the PvP, it will be after the other arena runs and people will have the opportunity to visit the Alehouse and retrain and also possibly switch partners among the other team.

I will be adding stuff to the campaign tab today and maybe tomorrow.

Quick rules ques, can bracers of armour be enhanced by armour runes? I am honestly not sure.

I don't think they can tbh. If you take a look at Handwraps of Mighty Striking, they specifically mention that they CAN add property runes, but Bracers of Armor lack that mention.

No, although you may attach talismans to them as if they were light armor.

** spoiler omitted **...

Looks pretty good indeed.

Curiosity: Did you create this character with any software or just "pen and paper" them? I know you've created a number of high level submissions in the past and am interested to know your impression of making a level 20 in 1E vs 2E.

A brief backstory for Fargus and they should be good to go. (maybe I should be asking for gender pronouns too :) )

Here you go, I may yet tinker with spells known.

I built this by hand, it was very fiddly at this level keeping track of when skills hit certain levels allowing particular skill feats to be taken. It was probably easier than making a level 20 1e sorcerer just because there are fewer spells to pick from but deciding what level to take different spells at is a complication.

I use Herolab classic a lot for 1E and I eventually succumbed to Herolab Online for Starfinder after characters became a bit complex to track just normally. I will probbably buy the CRB content for 2E Herolab Online eventually.

Fargus is male.

To answer your question, I sat down and built him in notepad, then imported what I created into your template. It's how I make all of my characters (well, except for the template part).

Fargus is actually the second character I made yesterday. The first was a bard 20, and creating spellcasters takes like 30% more work, especially in a new system. It's worth it, but still...

Fargus is the last son of a Dwarven clan that was disbanded when his patriarch died. Now he just roams the land, looking for a glorious death.

Interesting. I haven't statted up a 2e character yet: Might as well go straight to level 20!

How do you feel about using the Lost Omen's world guide? If I am not mistaken, pre-order's should start shipping this week, and the Lion Blades have always called to me. (Not to imply I have a copy: I'm waiting alongside everyone else.)

I don't think LOWG will break anything, so as long as I have it to reference before you enter the arena, should be fine.

Sounds like fun!

I'll be throwing in a Varisian Bard devoted to Shelyn. Draft fluff below. Feedback welcome!

I'll work on crunch over the next few days.

Can you share the template from the Campaign Tab as a doc (since you've already done to work of formatting it where you want things to be bold or italic)?

Fluff:

Background
Oliveo Taragoš /oh-lee-VAY-oh Ta-ra-GOSHZ/ is renowned across all of Avistan, and into the vast Padishah Empire of Kelesh as a musician who can inspire armies to glory, melt the hearts of women and men, converse with songbirds, and (they say) make a stony sphinx weep with joy. Oliveo is known as well for his great devotion to Shelyn, and as a man of deep passions and big appetites.

To this day, in Qadira the Satrap himself will tell that--when feuding efreet and shaitans were engaged in a sprawling battle that was ravaging his kingdom--this lone wandering minstrel succeeded at brokering a truce between the warring factions. As a reward for making peace and ending the devastation (the Satrap will tell you) Oliveo was given a flying carpet out of the Satrap’s own stores.

In Lastwall, when an encroaching horde of frigid corpses with bloody claws marched out of the Hungry Mountains toward Vigil, the faith of the stalwart defenders started to falter and fall beneath the undead army’s frozen fists. Fortunately word came via songbirds to Oliveo, who was a rare invited non-elven guest musician in Kyonin performing The Starfall Sonnets on an outdoor stage in the enchanted Fierani Forest. He begged forgiveness of Queen Telandia for delaying the next week’s performances (for the Sonnets are written to be sung under the moon for six hours each evening for a fortnight) and--with the Queen’s blessings--flew through the night on the Satrap’s magic carpet. Oliveo arrived, concertina in hand, and with a rousing hymn to Shelyn he lead the vanguard to beat back the Whispering Tyrant’s servants.

There are less grand tales as well: tales that he’s quick to fall head over heels in love, tales of his legendary devotion to the Eternal Rose, who is his greatest muse, and even (if you ask for them) tales of his childhood in Varisia.

You see, Oliveo was born to a Varisian family that had put down roots in Korvosa. His mother Zora was a Cleric at the Sanctuary of Shelyn and his father Jerome was a local woodworker. Together they raised Oliveo in the city’s North Point district and taught their son to love the arts and beauty in all forms. With the blessing of the Eternal Rose, young Oliveo proved quite gifted at song, dance, and at playing the concertina. He can tell of his early dreams of a place in the grand Marbledome opera...and of his bitter rows with it’s director Touran Palastus (who found Oliveo as intolerable as Oliveo found him). Before his first season was over, Oliveo stormed off, bid his parents a teary farewell, and took to the road to pursue his dream elsewhere. He made his way to Taldor where he studied at the Kitharodian Academy in Oppara for many years, eventually achieving the distinguished title of Grand Master. Of course, he left and returned many times before achieving that highest honor: often traveling across the Inner Sea sharing the music he so loved, other times joining up with an adventuring band off to stop raiding ogres or--much later--an ancient black dragon that was terrorizing the Shackles.

Wherever he’s gone he’s worked to praise love in all forms, to bring beauty to the towns and villages he passes through, and to help those in need as he’s able. As he’s traveled, performing at venues both small and grand, his fame as a musician has grown...and he enjoys the fame and adoration he often receives from those who appreciate the arts.

Personality
* quick to fall in love,
* loves fame, great food, great drink, and great beauty in all of its forms,
* devoted to Shelyn,
* generous and big hearted

Appearance
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 150 lbs
Eyes: Amber, draconic
Skin: Olive
Hair: Black, long, free flowing under a Varisian scarf

Oliveo has a loose, easy demeanor and a warm smile that draws people in. He wears his hair long and flowing, and keeps his mustache waxed into a handsome handlebar. His eyes have no whites, instead being amber pools with a black pupil. He changes his attire frequently, but he generally chooses colorful, flowing outfits.

A quick question on weapons and armour. This came up in the playtest and they seem to have left it as is.

When picking items you choose a level. On page 580, when dealing with item level and runes it stats that an items level is based on the highest rune on the item.

Fundamental runes allow you to add property runes. I believe this means that if you pick a piece of armour or a weapon it automatically comes with the maximum number of property runes, provides they are all below the level of your potency rune.

This thread has also spurred me to put together a few additional characters. While Oromo is the character I am interested in trying out I am happy to throw them up if people are interested. Currently I have two others, a champion|fighter who flies around the battlefield punishing his enemies with three reactions per round and a mystic theurge cleric of Erastil with complete druid and sorcerer spellcasting dedications.

This is the template I am using.
HERE

As far as the question about runes goes, I don't believe you get property runes for free at all (and I certainly didn't).

If you look at the description of both potency runes on page 581, they both say

Quote:
"...can be etched with one property rune."

emphasis mine.

I believe that were they to automatically apply the runes, then not only would it say "...is etched with one property rune" (or something like that).

Additionally, if runes were free, they wouldn't have a cost on them.

That is, of course, just my $.02.

I believe Vrog is right on that one. As to the template, I'll try to get that posted & linked tomorrow.

Thanks for the interest, and even more thanks for those who actually did builds, but there wasn't enough to get this off the ground.
