Baldwin the Merciful's Bloody Nightmare

Game Master baldwin the merciful

This my new low level PF 1 game. I will be combining aspects of a homebrew game with published material. It is set in the country of Nirmathas.

Welcome to my Bloody Nightmare.

"Hey, I didnt wanna pop some critter that might be your companion or something."

Evil GM

I'll say it's flat footed even though it is moving towards Ulfrec at the time. Bradan's arrow hits and this seems to anger it.

Evil GM

Bloody Nightmare:

Ulfrec: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Bradan: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
amphisbaena: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Everyone else is asleep.

Roll perception to notice the noise and wake up?

Evil GM

Everyone can roll a perception to wake up.

Male

Half sleepy, Ulfrec and Geri spring into action! Let's see what we've got here...

Ulfrec atk two-heads, battleaxe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
dmg two-heads, battleaxe: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Geri atk two-heads, bite + trip?: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13
dmg two-heads, bite: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Evil GM

Ulfrec and Geri still have sleep in their eyes and miss the target.

FYI tripping will not work against the snake.

Evil GM

Bradan Knowledge check:
the snake has a head on each end of its long coiling body. it is known as an amphisbaena. Its a large magical beast. Amphisbaenas are said to have formed from the blood of medusas, and while such stories are highly suspect, the creatures possess a natural immunity to petrification, which make them favored pets of medusas or other creatures with the petrification ability.

The amphisbaena’s two heads can act independently, and the creature can move freely in either direction. In combat, it uses this ability to its utmost advantage, constantly spinning about to change up the direction of its strikes and guarding against enemies attempting to sneak closer or flank it. Unlike most snakes, amphisbaenas are aggressive, attacking anything that enters their territory. While they prefer smaller prey, they have been known to hunt gnomes, halflings, and other small humanoids, and will sometimes attack larger foes if they’re starving or preparing to shed.

Bradan's first arrow misses the coiling snake as it lunges towards Ulfrec and Geri. His second arrow does hit.

The snakes attacks Geri and Ulfrec with it's two heads which act independently of one another.

Geri bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21;damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Plus poison DC 14.

Bite—injury; save Fort DC 14; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d3 Con; cure 1 save.

rds: 1d6 ⇒ 4;con: 1d3 ⇒ 3

You won't be able to get to the snake. It's a little too far away.

Aggrah got it. Thanks for the clarification.

Waiting on Ulfrec to act.

Poke Poke sneakly moves to a position to into a position strike.

Calain had snored his way through the snake incident last night and awoke refreshed and ready to make their way home.

He Strapped on his Breastplate and gear, (leaving his Armored Kilt in his pack as it no longer felt right to wear it) and Hefted his Greatsword. The Lucerine Hammer had proven precious little value in this swap and so he felt it not worth keeping in hand (for now).

Standing the picture of a warrior (albeit a Homely looking one to be kind) he asks Ms Turner, since it was she they were meant to be protecting, Ms Turner, now that the terrors of the previous day are a bit behind us, would you tell if the hag you were held by gave any indication WHY you were taken? Or if she was working for anyone?

"Treasure and settling old scores that's why I was kidnapped." She looks at group. "I thank you for rescuing me and well...you've earned the truth." She pauses as she contemplates her words.

"My deceased husband, Franz Turner, and I collected rare maps that focused on the Lake Encarthan region. My husband - at times - had to deal with some less than reputable people. That is where Captain "Jack" Goldwin comes in. He was pirate, thief and murder who deserved the guillotine for his deeds but he did have some merit. He could find "rare" items." She lets this sink in.

"One such item was a treasure map to the "Cursed Headlessman's" lair. She takes a bite of hard tac. "That map was acquired by my husband but there was a double-cross orchestrated by Capt Jack's partner in crime "The Greenwitch". "The Greenwhich" had me grabbed thinking that I knew where the map is located. She raises her palms up. "Rumor has it the map itself is cursed, those that seek the treasure are cursed, and once area around the lair are cursed." She nods in disbelief, as she notices Bradan subconsciously run his fingers through his streaked grey hair. "I think "curses" are for the weak minded and nothing more than ghost stories to keep people away."

Evil GM

Ulfrec and Bradan each find a small trail leaving the camp site each go in opposite directions. When Ulfrec and Poke exam the start of each trail they do find a couple set of small and medium sized footprints on one of the trails. It looks a bit more travelled than the other one.

"We can not go directly back, I still need to make a small detour."

Male Human Invulnerable Rager HP: 50/50 AC18/12/16, F6/R3/W2, Perception: +6, Survival +6, Init:+2; CMD:18; CMB+6

Detour? You have a possibly still available witch hunting you and maybe some Lizardmen tribe. We'll continue to protect you Mrs Turner, but please don't dally. The less killing we have to do to keep you alive the better. What is this detour you'd like to make?

Calain examines the trails once they have been pointed out to him and shrugs. This swamp was not any territory he was familiar with and so he was more than happy to follow the Ranger and druids lead.

Treasure hunting? Best we properly equip ourselves for it.

Male

Six o' one, hald dozen o' the other... I see the trail, but I've got no idea.

I could ask the land... it would make for faster passage.

He sniffs as the detour.

Mrs. Turner, NPC wrote:

Mrs. turner looks at her new entourage and nods approvingly. "I wouldn't expect much trouble but we do need to make one small detour on the way that could offer a degree of risk." She states as a matter-of-fact. "I'll make sure you each personally receive an additional 20 platinum for your trouble." She pulls out a small coin purse and calls forth 160 platinum. The coin appear in her hand, "Payable in advance." She sets out 8 stacks of 20 coins.

"We leave at 6:00 am." Then she turns away disinterestedly and heads off to her room.

Here is the original post about the detour. It was posted when you first agreed to protect her.

In a very business like manner your employer says, "We discussed and agreed to terms when we first met. I expect you to fulfill your obligations." Her shrewd business demeanor is noticeable. "This detour has to do with the map, I may know where my late husband hid it."

Evil GM

Ulfec make a second survival role to see if you gain any additional information from the land.

Male

Ulfrec survival, +4 if giants: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

Evil GM

Ulfrec you decide the best path to travel is the one without any signs of recent footprints. You figure that path leads towards east which is the direction you would have taken to get to Lake Encarthan and the swamp will eventually drain towards that lake. Besides that is the region your charge is from.

Male

We go East. This will take us towards the lake and familiar territory for the Mrs.
