Scramsax: I will get to your walkabout through the village, but unfortunately its been a long week and my brain is turning to mush. I will tackle it over the weekend.
No worries, feel free to ignore it if you prefer. I just couldn't think of anything else to write that day.
Raseri Whitescale |
Hey all, wanted to let you know that I'm planning on catching up with the game soonish. I've got to get my own games up and running again and I didn't get as much done as I wanted to over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, that means I don't have a timeline at the moment, but I will be jumping back in as soon as I can.
Thank you for your patience. I'll keep y'all posted on when it looks like I'll be caught up.

Scram's golden orbs lit up like a pipe-smoking backslider, as she was sizzled from within by Invictusol's summoned radiance "Noooo! Khors, why?!! I believed your Prophet's verse! I atoned for the temple!!" squirming around on the ground and hating religion like never before.
@Scramsax. Are you taking the damage of the puppet? Because the evil puppet critted Luthael and is the target of his spells.
Color me confused.
Scramsax |
Yes, none of us understand why you keep attacking it, lol. xD You silly goof, hahah.
No worries.
Damnit, stop!

Me, right before you attacked again wrote:Damnit, stop!
Because, I'm not reading the Scramsax spoilers. ;D
@Tareth Did Scramsax take the damage of the Sacred Flame, too?
Scramsax |
I mean, that's what it sounded like, that I told them everything Golum-style. Not really sure I suppose. Here is exactly what happened:
You dream. You dream of lying upon a stone. A single extended middle finger poking up in the middle of a churning maelstrom of black, ice filled water. Whirlpools suck and waves crash to constantly coat you with an icy spray that drains the very warmth and essence of your soul. In the few spare feet of bare ground surrounding the isolated pillar of misery, you catch glimpses of cavorting purple eyed chipmunks playing badminton with your eye. Cackling witches weave ugly tapestries from thread of your bloody, well-toned calf muscles. A shambling giant of a man bakes halfling liver fritters sweetened with powdered brain serving them on a scapula platter. You try to struggle free. But to no avail. You are pinned to the stone like collector's butterfly. The needles consisting of dozens of frostbit hands, their blacked fingers piercing flesh to clamp you solidly into place. The arms disappearing into the black depths of shadow beneath the stone. Even if you could move. Could swim, run, walk, crawl, scramble there is no place to go but that cold, black oblivion.
All the while questions screech like the howling wind. Each word whipping the churning sea into a frenzy of death and doom.Where is the sword that once held the child saint? How is it hidden? Who carries it? More questions come, to refuse to answer causes the undying hands to wriggle their fingers, causes them to dig deeper into your flesh like moles seeking the most delicious roots. The answer common whether bidden or not. They are screamed into the howling wind, into the void black night surrounded by the void black waters.
Eventually the blessed blackness of unconsciousness envelopes your mind.

Looks like long rest.
Scram's magic ring is empty.
Do you guys have some remaining spells left I can steal? Might need something for upcoming battle.
Gunnar Thorstein |
Gunnar is happy to cast a spell or two into the ring if Scramsax knows what he wants.
We also need to deal with the evil sword hiding place, maybe put up some extra defenses or shuffle it around so it isn’t where the foe expects it to be.

I just reset my slots, but I remember that I slots for every level except 5th. Luthael's menu of prepared spells are on his profile. Have at it.
cheers

Scrying would be cool, I think Scram could manage the +0 save version on whoever was torturing her. But I'm guessing we don't have the 1000gp focus or a place to get it from this anti-capitalism farming community.
So, I'll cast Find Familiar (it was still there, forgot) to clear it out.
Then I'll snag:
Fireball, Shield, and Absorb Elements
Alternatively, if Raseri is still technically there and 'snaggable' I'll do:
Fog Cloud, Locate Object, and Enhance Ability
---
As far as defenses, some ideas from my repertoire:
1. Use paints to create a few replica Null Boxes. Play 3 card monte or sleight hand switcheroo at the right moment.
2. Cover the box and/or sword with contact poison.
3. Sleight of hand the sword away, fill box with oil and thermonuclear warheads, fireball when they open it. Or some other rigged trap.
4. Lie to the hag/ice hyena, ie a deceptive offer to leave it alone that Scram never fulfills or somehow weasels out of.
5. Beans.
That's pretty much all I got. Traps, poison, pickpocketing, wacky magic items. Thief stuff. xD
Does anyone have a bag of holding? Wasn't the null box an extradimensional space? Trip to Astral Plane?
Scramsax |
Also a longshot, but maybe Gunnar could ritual Identify on Scram or Scram's hair, maybe some clue there or might still be under the effect of something.
Gunnar Thorstein |
I love the paints idea! Do it!
Scramsax |
It would probably be better with something like Nystul's Magic Aura, but I don't really remember how the Null Box responds to divination magic.
Luthael Invictusol |
The Null Box does not emit magic... it's an artifact
DM - Tareth |
Okay, so it sounds like you all are heading out of the village and stopping a short distance along the trail to try to paint some fake null boxes. I had to give a little thought to trying to duplicate the null box.
While the null box does not 'emit magic' it is quite magical which is what makes it invisible and undetectable. (As if it, and anything inside, is permanently under the Invisibility and Nondetection spells.) Unfortunately, I don't think the paints will actually create a reasonable replica. From the DMG: "When you complete the painting, the object or terrain feature depicted becomes a real, nonmagical object." Thus you can paint something similar but it would not be invisible, would be easily detectable as non-magical, and not likely to fool anyone who knows what they are looking for.
However, the fakes might fool a lowly lackey trying to make a quick grab based on nothing more than a description or guessed location. Having a way to actually make them invisible or change their aura's significantly (per a Nystul's) would certainly increase the chance of fooling someone although they still wouldn't be an exact match because the fact one could detect them at all, could be a tip off.
But they won't take long to create and they won't hurt anything, so still totally acceptable to do.
I will try to bump things forward this afternoon. I think that since we haven't heard from Raseri for a while we will assume she stays back in the village to help fend off any further possible attacks.
Scramsax |
Ah, I totally missed that the box was Invisible. So that wouldn't work anyways.
Or, it would be the greatest con of all time. Imagine 3 card monte with all three cards invisible. xD
Let's just save the paints I think.

Ok, so Scram makes a box to hold the invisible box. Then she makes multiple copies and scrambles them all up so no one knows which box actually has the invisible box inside. We each take a box, and pinky swear not to peek. Right?
Gunnar Thorstein |
Very nice! Let’s do it!
Scramsax |
So I just realized I've been absolutely aweful at tracking the paint pot charges. I really lost track, I didn't realize it had been all the way from 2022. I can never find the roll for number of pots, but I think you rolled a 1d4 and turned up 4. Then you said 10 charges per pot, each charge up to 100 sq ft. Going by memory...
Used an entire pot (10 charges) for making Stalker's Retreat awesome on top of the beanstalk that we will never go to again.
1 charge to make a hole in the Ligenau widow's vault
1 charge to cover the hole
1 charge for the ghoul offal distraction on the plains outside the village.
1 charge for fashionable winter blankets
???
I think that's it? I need to start using the phrase 'Nolzur's' during the posts to make it easier to search later.
How about I just roll a d4 for how many more charges I may have used...
Nolzur's: 1d4 ⇒ 4
So 22 uses remaining. 3 beans...I'll put both in my stat line to make it easier on myself.
Scramsax |
So the box is invisible and impervious to the greatest divinations known to archmages, but detected instantly by the humble weight scale. xD
Scramsax |
All good, loving it. Sets us up for the 'tis a fair cop' balancing duck test. :)
Gunnar Thorstein |
Gunnar paid 60 gp. He will need someone else to pony up the other 60 gp as he doesn’t have enough cash on him to do that as well.
Luthael Invictusol |
I've never recorded Luthael taking coins, for RP reasons. I hope I didn't lose anything.
Gunnar Thorstein |
Scramsax can do the full 120 so you can keep some gp on hand.
The 60 is fine, thanks. That will leave him with 40 or so left.

Team
I'm leaving for a 3-week family vacation the night of Thursday July 25. While I may be able to read an odd post here and there, please expect zero posting from me. We return Friday August 16, and it will take me a couple of days to catch up and post over the weekend.
Cheers
DM - Tareth |
Luthael, thanks for the heads up.
All, given Luthael's upcoming break and the fact Raseri hasn't returned, how do you all feel about putting things on a short break until the end of August? If you don't want to do that, I can continue to push things forward but would probably hold off on any final encounter with the witch/hag until Luthael returns.
Gunnar Thorstein |
Fine with me too.

Hey all,
Sorry for going radio silent for so long. I've been dealing with some personal stuff. Long story short, my paternal grandfather has been suffering from cancer for a few years and, more recently, from dementia. There's some baggage I have with that side of my family, so yeah, not fun times.
If y'all are willing to have me back, I'll work on catching up with the game and let y'all know when I do.
Again, I apologize for going silent for so long. I meant to come back a lot sooner than this.
Scramsax |
Hey, welcome back AdamW. :)
I think we are on break.
However, I'm going to do a flashback scene or something at some point to try and give some new life/story-element to Scramsax.
Raseri Whitescale |
Ah, so good time to catch up, then. :)

Raseri, no worries, I totally understand the life happens stuff. Like Scram said we are on a bit of a break until around the end of August, so feel free to catch up and join the convo around the campfire if you like. If you don't want to just suddenly appear, you can easily arrive via another canoe after having spotted the fire.
