5E Adventure's in Midgard – North (Reaver's Spring)
Game Master
Tareth
A small merchant caravan led by Rook Bentknee, a kobold merchant, travels up the coast of the Bay of Ghed to deliver goods and trade with Rook's former adventuring companion and occasional business partner, Britta Gleamgaurd, human owner of the Frost Maiden Inn in the village of Nargenstal.

Update about the above, the funeral will be this Thursday, so there's a good chance I might not be on that day. I'm alright. This isn't the first time I've had to deal with this sort of thing.
Sorry for your loss and condolences to you and your family. My own grandmother who made it to 100 years just passed away on the 12th of July this year, so I understand. Take what time you need.

Oh it is. It can also be fun to be someone who isn't a good liar but very good at carefully wording things.
Raseri: I don't think you need to roll to make walking sticks if they are just for RP value. But if you want them to have an actual bonus effect, such as give advantage to avoid slips or falls when on a slippery surface, then I do think a roll for each stick is needed. DC13 to make sure the sticks are sturdy enough and crafted correctly to aide in such situations.
And just a quick FYI for everyone. I am currently battling whatever this year's COVID variant is, so I will likely be a bit slower to post until this nasty fever goes away.
Everyone gain Inspiration for the excellent RP around the campfire. It has been great to read along.

Fair enough. Not sure if woodcarving tools would be used here. The way I was thinking these would be made was by putting one point of the caltrop into the end of the stick and binding it in place with twine and any pine sap we could find.
I guess I should ask, what am I rolling and do I get proficiency?
I think woodcarving tools or leatherworking tools (for proper wrapping and binding of the caltrop) would work for sure. I would also take Survival or Nature. I am open to reasonable suggestions for how another toolset or skill might work. If you are proficient in the tool or skill, then yes, add your PB. For the tools, roll DEX. For a skill use the appropriate stat.

So can everyone chip in to pay the 200? If not, Scram can cover it...she's carrying 220ish at the moment.
Scram would try to haggle but she recently gave up that sort of thing (and has a negative mod anyways). In theory 200gp at 9th level should be a financial mosquito bite, but hey.
Also carrying 2 diamonds for future reference, might have some deadly fights ahead...

I just did the save only. Do we have an action before the Wendigo attacks?
If you make the original save, then you get your full turn per normal. It is only if you fail and save later that it takes place at the end of the turn.

Quote: we might be dead Agreed if these are a dirty dozen CR 11 Kobold Press Wendigo. But it might be a Tareth Tailored Special. Or some kind of despair curse from the hag-lands. *shrug*
On the other hand somehow we all (PCs) saved against its spotlight ability, so the CR is reduced. Or its a way to blow all our best slots and abilities before the real big fight against Haggy McHagsters.
I don't remember anyone's character ever running from battle, but Scram totally would (after clandestinely snatching back the 200 from Darrell and leaving him for dead). I think if a few rounds go and it looks dire that's what Scramsax is going to do. Sorry not sorry. I've got a daughter to oil.

Gunnar is hoping that the duplicates are some kind of mirror reflections and we are still only fighting one Wendigo, given their uniform reactions.
Gunnar: Darrel took 11 points slashing and 14 points of cold damage with the hit you blocked with the ward. So that would be a total of 25 against the ward.

With the ward only at 23 points at that time, Darrel took 2 points and subsequently Gunnar took 25.

I've been reviewing the 2024 update. I was curious how it would change Scramsax.
Rogue Class:
Thieves Cant [as before but:] adds a regular bonus language too
Weapon Mastery [new:] these are simple options for weapons pretty much everyone gets, swappable on long rest. Scram would have Nick (TWF without using bonus action) for daggers, and Slow (reduce speed by 10 for 1 turn) for sling.
Cunning Strike [new:] Trade a Sneak d6 for one special effect: poison, trip, withdraw.
Reliable Talent [as before but:] is granted at level 7 instead of 11!!!
Thief Subclass:
Fast Hands [as before but:] can also activate magic items.
Second Story Work [reworked:] climb speed equal to speed, and use dex mod for jumping.
Supreme Sneak [reworked:] Stealth Attack: trade sneak d6 to remain hidden even when the attack hits if behind 3/4 or total cover.
Feats:
Skulker [reworked:] grants blindsight 10 ft, advantage on stealth during combat. retains staying hidden on a missed attack.
Background Feat [new:] Backgrounds now all grant feats. Criminal gives Alert, or can choose from a limited low-power list (called Origin feats).
Relevant Rules:
Hiding [reworked:] DC 15 is minimum to succeed at all, check result is still DC to find. Grants Invisible condition.
Invisible [reworked:] not what you think. You are not impossible to see. Basically gives advantage to initiative in surprise round, immunity to 'can see the target' spells and abilities, and the same adv/disadv for normal attacks as before. The Invisibility spell has also changed to simply grant this new condition.
I personally love all the changes, but understand completely if its a needless hassle.
I'd be happy to do this for anyone else's character if interested.

![](/WebObjects/Frameworks/Ajax.framework/WebServerResources/wait30.gif)
Okay, so I just want to make sure I have everything clear before I move ahead.
First step, before leaving the tunnel and entering the cavern, Scramsax is 'painting' the diving gear. Correct?
Second step, Coin flies in and provides a distraction for the potential creature/foe kneeling at the shrine by diving into the water and splashing around?
Third step, Scramsax approaches the shrine and attempts an offering to try and 'convert' the shrine from Carn to another deity.
This last is a little more problematic. Since Scramsax is not a cleric in any way or really imbued with any clerical/holy powers, I don't think she has the ability to truly consecrate a space or convert it to another god. However, I would allow that the action would provide an added distraction to Carn and his allies. With a roll of 20, I'd say the distraction would last for 1d6 rounds and would prevent the use of any lair abilities. In addition, during the distraction any enemies aligned with Carn have disadvantage on their attacks each round.
Fourth, the depth of the statue is 40' and it is 30' out from the shore. I think the scuba fins require one DC10 Athletics Check assuming you are not wearing armor or carrying more than 5 pounds of other gear. If wearing armor or carrying more gear, then DC20. On a success, you gain a swim speed of half your normal move. On a failure, you are drowning and need to make another check the following round.
Fifth, we will deal with how to remove the gem if/when that time arrives. :)
If all of this works, then I'll get a post up later today or tomorrow morning to get things rolling.

1. Yes.
2. I had assumed (for no reason) any break of the water's surface would be instantly noticeable. Let's ignore that if...
3. ...I can amend that bit with the altar? Maybe try to paint a drain hole on the bottom of the pool instead?
