@Choon Kill team seems a good gateway drug for 40k. Similar rules, but you only need about 5-20 models (depending on faction). Not that I get much opportunity for table top games, but I have switched to Bolt Action (WW2) as I prefer the mechanics. I still love the lore (hence games like this), but I just got fed up of GW's constant money grab approach. That being said I sti have my old models and am slowly painting them up, so maybe one day I will return.
Choon the Expendable |
Huh. Ok. I've not heard of kill teams. I'll look at them. I'm only getting into painting just as a hobby that doesn't involve a screen. But if a chance to play prevents itself I probably won't say no.

I played TT shortly before the 2nd edition transitioned to 3rd. Mostly against my brothers chaos army which mostly consisted of Kharn, Cypher and a few schmucks to fill out the numbers. The games pretty much ended when his minis got into melee range.
I still have my Ultramarine army collecting dust and occasionally screaming at me to thin my paints(I was 12 back then)
Anyone remember when the Ultramarine were neither 'TEH GREATEST OF THEM ALL' nor 'Romans ins Space' but a newly founded chapter which got the name and colors from the original Ultramarines after they got banished into the eye of terror for turning traitor?
Cormaeg MacCammon. |
You mean basically when the Ultramarines were Ultramarines rather than Ultrasmurfs?
Yeah, I remember that, I knew a guy who had an Ultramarine army.
For some strange reason, when Matt Ward stepped into the equation, he switched to a home made GREEN army.
Go figure...

Wow, that goes back a way! I never paid much attention to the Ultramarines, I was always more interested in the Space Wolf/Dark Angel rivalry. My first models were DA and yeah thin paint wasn't something I knew about either! (No YouTube videos to help back then). Slowly painting up a few Space Wolves and my old Imperial Guard. Might use them one day!
Slightly gutted! There used to be a function on this forum, that if you wrote Smurf or ultrasmurf, it changed your image to a random Smurf image!
Edit:- Ha it still works (it didn't in preview!) Must just be the word Smurf!

Work is chewing hard on me atm.
It did not help that as I reviewed the map I prepared for this, I noticed it being ... not as I remembered it.
Either my imagination kept working on it or I lost progress on it at some point. Either way: I have some work to do on it before I feel comfortable running it.

Bootom line: please bear with me, I hope things will get more calm towards the end of the week.

Currently looking into Dark Heresy 2 skills (which is very similar to OW) a bit more (due to some thought experiments of mine) when I noticed one (well in fact two) of these small sentences that seem to litter the FFG rulebooks.
Under scholastic lore:
"... as well as all skills listed under Common Lore, as any topic can be studied to a greater depth."
Under forbidden lore:
"... as well as all skills listed under Scholastic Lore and Common Lore."
There I was, thinking: wow, OW has a lot of lore skills and the next moment you notice that it in fact has three to four times less than the very similar brethren-game o.o

MacGuyver:
I planted remote phosphor rounds inside. I don't even have to use a round. Just push a button and they'll by purified from the inside out!
The Ghost of War |
Gonna force the gameplay forward in a couple of hours if neither of Thud'dr / Lucky reacted on the approaching Gretchin until that point.
@Future:
- Work will remain crazy until mid-September-ish. I hope it will cool down afterwards again so we can pick up a greater speed again.
- I am on holiday from 04.08 to 18.08. depending on wether and motivation, post rate may either drop or raise considerably :-)
Cmd-Keen Medic |
Nah. Bigger punch but smaller radius
Kraks are for breaking single(or very few) armored targets
Fraks are for introducing shrapnel to as many people as possible.
Or in other words:
Lots of enemies: Frak
Heavily armored enemies: Krak. And hope there are not too many of them
Choon the Expendable |
Or you could just throw all of them at once and automatically win, like Pete!
We do still know where that Melta is, right?
Cmd-Keen Medic |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
From way back then:
Special Reward:
- Commissar Lind: Good Reputation [Imperial Guard]
- Anatoly Dashkov: Forb. Knowledge [Xeno-Tech]
- Operator MacVyger: Forb. Lore [Xeno-Tech]
- Medic Liam: Scrutiny (increase by one step)
- Storm Trooper Aurius: Increase your wounds by 2 permanently
- Father Bolus: Personal wargear: Pete's Sacrifice, Weapon Training: Melta
Looking at the last one I'd say we know exactly where it is.

Sorry for not responding yesterday.
Had to stock up food supplies at home after the holidays and still struggle to get into work rythm after those two nice weeks of calm lazyness :-)
@Grenades: Keen's right, grenades have a base range of STB*3.
A quick look at the map and some pythagoras' to somewhat measure in the height difference, I'd say that to reach the burnaboyz, it will take the equivalent of a 42 meter throw.
I like the idea of requiring a special test for long/extreme range throws.
Feels like an aathletic skill test for me.
If you succeed, you can reach that far. DoFs mean the 'nade will fall short.
Choon the Expendable |
*Oh my Darlin', Clementine starts up*
"Kill the Greenskins. Kill the Greenskins. Kill them allllll with 'nade and shot! They be ugly. They be grumpy. Kill them all, for Emprah's sake!"
Choon the Expendable |
I would like to state again my opinion that this room is literally going to pieces, and in a good way! Hopefully we get a nice secondary explosion out of either Krish's 'nade or Leni's shooting.
Choon the Expendable |
How sturdy are these tables? Do they look like they'd stand up to a shot or two from the big boys? Aka: can Thud improvise a shield here, even if it only lasts for a round or two?
Simmins Olways |
Oh, I forgot about R0, Can Simmins get a Cone Fire half action to fire on the NE Orks?
Basically
Cort:R0 Move
Simmins: R0 Toss Frag
Cort: R1 Setup Stubber
Simmins: R1 Move to Stubber and Cone Fire to hit NE orks.
If so could you include that in your resolution GM?
The Ghost of War |
Mhh...
Interesting case...
No hard ruling yet, but I feel that you probably should spend at least a half action to get into a braced firing position, even if Court did prepare and set up the weapon for you already.
On the other hand, it makes for a cool move, to sprint over to your buddy who just set up the gun and you start firing the moment you hit ground...
Mh...
Maybe an acrobatic/agility test to pull off such a stunt? If you don't make it, you have to spend a half action to get into firing position, if you pass, you can move&fire without stopping?
The Ghost of War |
@Choon: Actually, the tables differ on each level. The higher up you get, the more ornate and pristine (read: sturdy) they get.
First: basic desks of old wood with some polished metal features. It will provide decent cover, but probably won't (fully) stop anything powerful.
Second: Appear to be wood with stone surface. More sturdy but certainly heavier
Beyond you can only guess ATM.
