Desidera woke as everyone was doing their morning readying, rising and stretching with a mood that was sure to be termed "uncertain". The expression on her face said she had not slept all that well, though she had gotten rest. Her morning routine, was just that: routine. Armor was examined and donned, inventory was taken-- why did she smell chocolate?-- and then she settled herself on her folded bedroll as she sat for an hour, lifting the light within her to the light that she knew was outside, above their heads.

The expression on her face smoothed away as she prayed, and ended as she sighed and slumped from her rigid posture, opening her eyes and looking around at everyone. Of course, she watched the Dark Elf first, however, still trying to figure his motives.

She set to checking everyone's wounds, asking curiously, "Did anyone dream last night?"

Sorry, I thought I had said in a previous post that Gloisil rested after examining the box, ring and dagger, so you can advance us 8 hours, it's okay with me. I should have also cast Detect Magic on the key when I found it. Also, as Gloisil has no ranks in Use Magic Device, he cannot try to use it then because that skill can only be used trained.

Gloisil will cast Detect Magic on the key, and concentrate on it for the time required to find out everything he can about it.

Ok; this chocolate is exceptional; comes from the Southern Continent and restores the soul; so to speak. so; though I dont think any of you have any taint or like that; this moment sharing this treat would remove one point of taint. Everyone who has some will feel very good; happier; and uplifted. As it is likely you will eat all the chocolate; please let me know what you do with the box when finished.

"It probably is a Master Key," Gyldyr agreed with the gnome, accepting the key. "Strongly enchanted." He frowned slightly at the doors along the corridor. "Let's hope the doors aren't trapped, though with a key we probably don't have to worry about that."

you can default and take a ten if you want; the key gives this option if you roll bad; built in to try to avoid setting off a trap or alarm if the lock has one.
basically; it is your use device vs the locks rating and magical defenses if it has any same as a rogue would have for finding traps and opening locks. The mage who made this key was probably a master rogue as well and put his skill into it.

There are three doors; 18 will open one assistant door; 9 fails the other door; but you can take a 10 and see if it opens; still need the masters door which is a better lock.

Desidera was greatly pleased by the chocolate, though she did feel a bit guilty about taking it from whoever resided here. Sunsets capering back to her bedding brought a pleasant smile, though she was still pondering the dream that she had the night before. Some of her conversation was returned with a smile, as she did tend to engender those sort of reactions in people. Most of her thoughts that she volunteered were regarding their current location and situation, though she did get wistful about the market back home, where she once found chocolate, though nowhere near as good as what she just had.

She spoke as she packed, and once she was done, she was in much better spirits than she had when she woke, though she still was sorting out what she had seen.

compared to the rest of the rooms in this dungeon; the two gnome assistant room are very odd; it very much look like they packed; folded and left their room very tidy; but, the entire area is very stripped; there is an extra gnome sized robe and a leather apron and some heavy leather gloves in the room; the robe has a few burn and scorch markes; the leather has stains and acid splashes. There are a few sheets of paper and a writing tablet in each room as well as a few charcoal sticks. There is a comfortable looking gnome sized bed in each; but other than that; it very much looks like these guys packed up and left though you cannot tell if it was before; after; or during the battle.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Ok; lets get a bit of your recent history history caught up.

Spoiler:

ok; as stated before; high priest Kosan sent you on this quest, he would also tell you offhand; that if you get in trouble; there is a gnome village fairly close to the goblin held dwarven hold that you are to go to; so if things fly off the handle; go there for aid; but good luck finding it; after all, it is a gnome village and nobody finds a gnome village; but if you lucky; they find you. Now, Hava Goodday, of the Goodday clan of Arabel, is a Dwarf Friend, citizen of the empire; friend of Kosan and Hero of the Hold and a fairly powerful mage that lives in the area doing whatever the Emperor Sebastion has him doing. (that is a major story thread tie into the group)

ok; so basically the dwarf company you came with was side by side in "one-ups-manship" with a company of Ork; "The Blooded Fist" of the legion of Ork that some heroes led by Cera the Elven Ranger, also a well known hero and starter of many freedom fighter bands in the region, as well as Kosan's Half Ork friend, Balfic Graa, Cousin of the Emperor and Balfic's general and Protege' who now goes by the Nom de Gere of the Mother of Darkness. Anyway, they attacked the City State of Tarantis; the capital and major port city on your continent, which is held by the Four Horsemen and is the Seat of Power of the bad guys; at least the one called El CID; the vile mage/priest and basically the magic strong arm of the FOUR. Dwarved all him "The BAD CID" as a joke, after all; he is a drow elf. Strangly, Balfic is the lover of his daughter so, it is a strange situation, but than Kosan has a Demon Princess as a lover; so everyone avoids that topic because nobody wants to be on Kosan's bad side and Kosan is good with the Silent God and gets the Heartforge's nod; so nobody says much.

anyway; dwarf and ork scouts a few days out; reported being followed by some creatures; tracks say they are lame goblins; now your going to a goblin held dwarf lair; so everyone was....concerned; like how did they know. So, there was a big competition to find and kill the goblins; but goblins and crafty and sneaky; bit like gnomes and really really hard to find; expecially since both are really small.

so; these guys follow you from that continent to this one, somehow, though you were brought here magically and set down in a Celt Village and resupplied; then both the dwarves and ork marched here; lame goblins still following.

ok; so; three days ago; the dwarves and orks together fought a massive battle against goblin clans; three different clans; Goblin Spider Riders of the "Green Fangs"; Goblin Worg riders "Blood Lappers" and Forest goblins ""Dusty Shrooms"

ok; every dwarf knows and understands this terrain is very very unstable; there are sink holes and sand traps and the like all over the place; limestone and sandstone riddle this volcanic region with tunnels and pits.

bit of the area; you are on the edge of the Celtic area; to the south is the Romans, to the East is the Imperial Capital, to the west is the Holy Cities; to the northwest is the Elphlands and the area from here to about 500 miles north has been a massive battlesite for the last 15 years; hundreds of thousands have died; most are unburied; many eaten; wars of the armies of the Holy Cities and the Elflords have waged war on a massive scale against two of the Four Horsemen; Ubel and Oberon and their hordes of gnoll, giants; demons and just about every force of choas there is, and this was just one of their hordes; four others exist in the world. This horde nearly wiped out the Celts; crushed the Romans and Greeks; (strangely avoided the Manfrediis in the Dragon Mountains but it is rumored Ubel visited "the Place of Magic"

ok; finally the Emperor and his Magus; came and tipped the balance; so the Horde fled; Ubel and Oberon escaped; the armies of the Holy Cities mostly went home; the Armies of the elves went mad and started killing everyone on a path to the Southern Continent; though didnt kill any in the lands of the holy cities or those Greeks or Romans living nearby; and avoided Egypt.

so; basically there are bands of unallied knights; and celts out hunting those that escaped from the Chaos horde; and who knows how many forces of choas still in the region.

Oh; Kosan would warn you not to irratate the Leprachaun King who lives nearby and dont step on any of his houses; he is the Emissary of the Fae court and it is likely he will have Fae watching you; so be careful.

<more to come>

ok; second post to get our dwarf into the game:

ok; part dux

Spoiler:

So there was a massive fight and the dwarves and ork were outnumbered about 15 to one. The fight was in the dwarves and ork favor, until the forest goblins began unleashing their poisons
but basically lots of loud violent combat and a sink hole opened up and you and an orc warrior and the worg and worg rider you two were fighting; all fell into a venting shaft; part of the old
dwarven hold.

it dumped you out into series of rooms all buried in sand; the fight continued; you and the ork fight the goblin; when
a strange looking goblin comes out of the shaft and begins helping you. The little goblin hamstrings the worg; backstabs the goblinrider
and begins stabbing at the feet chanting some wierd war song about "Toes for Cera" of course you cant help but look; and this goblin is
missing several toes on his feet, hence, he walks funny.

After the battle, you and the orc are wounded. you took a wound for 2 and another for 5. The ork looks in similar shape.
The goblin you recognise as being from the "Broken Toe Clan" a not so noteworthy clan until late of goblins who
live in the tunnels of the underdark connected to your Clan Holme.

He speaks Dwarven and Ork very clearly as well as the Northern touge both you and the ork speak; is basically Swedish.
he addresses you:

"I be Mox Nix. I be champion Toe Clan <shakes his gruesome staff> Great Mother Cera Rangergoddess. He proudly displays her
symbol. Mother Ceravoice send us to help; take many toes from inferior clans of goblins here. We care nothing for stones or seals
but mothervoice say help steal seal. <he chuckles> so I help."

as he talks; you see his wounds dissappear; the goblin bugger regenerates!.

now as I said; the Broken Toe clan was a minor goblin clan; until a band of heroes with Balfic(high priest & reputed assassin); Kosan; Cera (rangerlord), Fystor (archmagus) and Mother Darkness
as well as others moved through the region; for some unknown reason; Cera befriended this clan and crushed all the other clans; so now the Broken Toe Clan
took over all the other clans and now there is just one big goblin clan; the Broken Toe clan, they are FANATICALLY loyal to Cera, and are known to have
strange and perhaps vile uhm rituals. to make things worse; Cera has clans of Wererats that follow her as well, and these two clans have started inter breeding.
EEK! so this guy is probably a wererat-goblin.

looking around; the goblin and worg a partially filled sand room; the air vent shaft; a hallway out with a broken door.

So; what do you do?

Just a momentary problem... and probably a problem he's used to, considering the society he comes from.

Desidera looked at Sunset as she skipped away, the expression on her face a mixture of "bemused" and "incredulous", before she snorted at the situation. A glance at the Dark Elf studying his spellbook turned the snort into a giggle, and before she could stop it, she was laughing. It was the image of a sullen, laconic, dark elf being used for her (and Sunset's no doubt enthusiastic) entertainment, occasionally issuing threats upon both of their lives that set her off. She collapsed onto her pack, then onto her back on the floor, reining the laughter back into giggles, only to laugh harder.

Her eyes were watering, and her stomach was hurting, but it felt great, and if either nudged the line of hysteria, well.. Still, picturing a disdainful expression on his face, and Sunset saying something about, "Yer not fer any harmin'.. This don't hurt none an' I reckon yer one fer th'enjoyin' 'neways..", just set her off again.

It was a good thing that she couldn't see for all the watering her eyes were doing, because if he was still studying his book, she would find it even harder to stop laughing.

Fem Elf Bard 3

*nods* Aye, indeed there be that side o' th' coin as well..(^_~)

As her freind succumbs to mirth, Sunset hugs herself. Finally, after much cajoling and hard work, her freind Desidera has, even if for this moment, forgotten whatever it was that was brining her so much emotional pain and anguish.

To see her freind momentary happy also brings a very warm and equally happy smile to Sunset's face.

(^_^)

She sighs and smiles across towards Gyldyr, "So, who's next fer wantin' t' be receivin' some cheers an' t'other good wills?" She winks mischievously at the dark skinned Elf.

"Hey!? Gloisil? How're ye doin' in there? We dunt have t' com after ye with a plunger none, now? Do we?" She winks to Gyldyr even as she calls out to their Gnome freind.

Gyldyr tried to ignore the distracting hysterics of the human woman, very obviously directed at him. The thin facade of studying his spellbook wouldn't really help as he felt himself become more flustered and annoyed, but he had no other obvious duties or responsibilities, so he continued pretending to ignore the two females, and managed to restrain himself to a very faint expression of discomfort and stoicism. Did they have nothing better to do? When the elf winked at him, he was trying to figure out how to avoid offending her and wether or not she was simply jesting, and so pretty much ignored or flirting.

Thank the Great Mother for her help, Mox. Tell me, do you know where the seal is located?

I'll start heading for the door after he answers. Let's see whats on the other side.

Spoiler:

you detect a faint grind and very low pitch for just a second from down deep below you; like a massive machine; comes from the direction of the elevator

Since there seemed to be no other way to make himself useful, Gyldyr stood at the outer door to the complex of rooms and keeps an ear open for anything approaching.

Once Gloisil finishes searching the room and tries in his own feeble attempt to open the remaining locked door, he will get ready to leave as it seems the others are ready to go and waiting.

As he walks out to the lab area where the others are, he realizes that he may have had exactly what they needed all along to repair the elevator controls. He shakes his head and says, "Aye, I've been so stupid!" He then reaches down and pulls a patch from his cloak, as he does so, it becomes a hammer. "Hopefully with this and some improvisation, I can repair the controls to the elevator."

Once Gloisil is ready he says, "Shall we head over to the elevator and see if we can get it to work?"

Hmm... I don't know if I can work it. Looks like it only goes up though. Maybe we can climb the cables.

I'll look for any possible way to work the elevator

Sunset smiles at Gloisil even as she helps a still giggly Desidera to her feet.

"Aye, lets get this show on'a road!" Sunset boisterously proclaims. (^_^)

Gyldyr holds his hand up to signal for everyone to listen to him. "We may have been beat to the elevator," he says cautiously. "While I was standing guard, I heard something very like a large machine starting to move, from the direction of the elevator."

Sunset quickly unlimbers her x-bow and skips across the room to stand beside Gyldyr.

"Um, wus th' thing up or down when we come in here?" She blushes and grins sheepishly, "Am just tryin' t' think if'n it be somat commin' up from below...or somat comin' down from above, is all..." Though, she too, puts her ear to the door and listens for sounds coming from outside.

Gloisil gets out his wand, and then pulls out the dagger that they found and holds it in his left hand. He has never been comfortable in wielding a weapon, and in his left hand even that light a weapon feels really awkward.

"Gyldyr, what do you think we ought to do?"
