Probally not, we're mostly active during the first part of the week as that is when our GM (Valgrim) has the most opportunity to post. We have been having some larger then normal lulls in posting, hence the opportunity for some new players. At any rate, welcome aboard. Now let's see if I, or my character that is, can spot you.
Spot (Gloisil): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24, Spot (Hoot): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 It's a miracle, I got a good roll!
As Gloisil circles around the gem floating in the middle of the hallway, that only he can see, trying to detect the magic used to create it. He catches the movement of someone trying to hide.
"Sunset, I believe that we are being watched", Gloisil whispers as he continues to study the gem.
After he has completed his study of the gem, Gloisil says, "You may as well come out now my friend, that wasn't the best effort at trying to remain hidden."
Then turning to Sunset says, "Thank you for your concern, but I have not a fever that is causing me to hallucinate. There is a gem floating in the air here in the hallway, but it is only easily seen by gnomes, but if you concentrate, I believe you will see it."

![]() |

Gyldyr stands up to his full height, moving cautiously out into the open. "I did not want to surprise you," he says with a small bow. "These mines have seen recent occupation by rather unsavory beings." Trying his best to act completely innoffensive, he nevertheless has a cantrip ready to cast.
Looking hard at the area about the gem assuming he can detect it with his sense magic ability, he comments, "yes, there is some sort of magic there."
Turning to the rest of the party, he gives another small bow. "Introductions seem to be necessary. My name is Gyldyr of-, my name is Gyldyr. I was directed here to join you, at the request of your employer. Your names?"

She nods at Goisil's kind words while now trying to 'nonchalantly' look out to where the other that Goisil has mentioned still hides.
"Sorry, Goisil, I do trust ye, an all." She whispers.

Sunset's large blue eyes seem to open even wider as the new comer merges from the darkness. As Gylder introduces himself she steps forwards, her gaze seeming to drink in the complete sight of this Elf of the darkness.
"Ooooo...." Is her eloquent statement as she continues to stare openly. Then she blinks and actually raps herself upon her blond haired head. (>_<)
"Feh! An' where be th' manners me N'uncle did show me!" She exclaims, looking back directly at Gylder.
"San agamat chay bet apipoulai, seno akta gamat. Minai lekarariba laminai, tchai ekbat de sebat." She grins, presenting a hand forwards.
Jus' tryin' t' make ye feel at home, like!
Yay! Fer meetin' up with new/old friends! (^_^)
EDIT:Thorn Silverleaf, Thu, Sep 10, 2009, 05:37 AM: Lol It's from 5th element. Leeloo's idea of an introduction.

Desidera Tahn |
Despite Sunset's cheery greeting-- Apollo, but the elf could be cheery in the grimmest of situations-- Desidera looked up at the newcomer, and gave him a cautious nod of her head in greeting, while eyeing the others to see what their reactions were. The golden Lyre on a thong that tied her curly brown hair into a tail was visible when she took her eyes off of him, and her manner of dress-- if one were to go by value-- made it seem as if she were fairly high-placed, if indeed it was the case.
She had not seen the likes of his type before, though everyone had heard the stories. As a result, she was wary, more because if he had approached from behind them, how had he managed to get by the cloud of fae that were trailing them?

Gloisil Murigel |

Gloisil in his usual dour faced mood, survey's the new comer as he introduces himself. He tries to determine from Gyldyr's words and actions if he be friend or foe. Being that he is one of the dark elves, trust doesn't come easily.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2, but obviously, I was too busy studying the gem to note if he was being truthful.
"Welcome Gyldyr, looks as if your fate has been tied to our for the time being", Gloisil says.

Sunset |

At Gyldyr's ignoring of her greeting and waving towards something, Sunset squints into the darkness for a moment and then goes and stands besides Desidera again.
"I can't see nothin' floatin' there. Can you?" Sunset whispers to Desidera though she continues to watch Gyldyr surreptitiously.

after a few rounds of bafflement; you are suddenly in chuckles as you relize that you have been fooled by a misdirection and are reading magic on everyone around you and not the gem; just like a gnome; whoever left this was smart and you begin to appreciate it as apparently only gnomes can see it and anyone looking for magic would miss it; very clever, but any gnome walking here would find it. Obviously this was meant for a gnome to find; now was it left by a friend or someone who particularly knows and hates gnomes; that is the question.
It does seem to have sigils etched into it; but they are really small; you will need a magnifier to see them very well.
"There was a lot of magic used in this battle. Most of the scorch marks are mundane fire, but there are traces of magical energy based attacks and lightning. Looks as if some of it may have been the Dwarven sorcerers, but there was also a contingent of Gnome illusionists here."
"I'm going to take a closer look at this gem floating in the hallway and see if I can determine it's purpose, it is most certainly magical. I have not the talent to tell exactly what it is, but I can find out the type of magic that created it."
Gloisil casts Detect Magic and makes a Spellcraft check to see if he can determine the type of spell used to create the object. He will try to use the Detect Magic spell for the full three rounds to gain as much information as possible.
Spellcraft: 1d20+5 Well, hopefully I can glean some information with that roll.

Valegrim |

Lol; it does do that sometimes; Board Monster is hungry.
--------
Just to clarify; you were led by a Brownie to right outside this door; you have seen dried bones and what may have been blood of several battles but nothing new so apparently the group has not encountered anything in this dungeon yet.
Did the board eat people's posts?

Valegrim |

In the war, the civil war that your people supported; the other side had Dark Elves and could and did summon many demons and undead to fight in the war; that is when the war became really nasty and assassination became common place. The Caliph has offered amnesty to all; but the walking wounded from the war tell horror stories to keep you up at nights and fear dark places of the earth.

Dark elf society being what it is; is a difficult read and you never met one before; you think your getting summed up as being stronger or weaker; like pecking order.
Keep in mind that among elves; individuality is supreme; so among good elves; he who is most elequent and intelligent and leads by example; among evil elves; strength and cunning as well as intelligence and eloquence.
Perception Roll:1d20+3
Hmmm...would that be enough t' see any expression o' confusion upon yer face, Gyldyr?

Desidera Tahn |
"I can't see nothin' floatin' there. Can you?" Sunset whispers to Desidera though she continues to watch Gyldyr surreptitiously.
Her only response was a shake of her head not having seen anything floating since they paused, but Glyldr was being watched evenly, not sure what his presence here meant, especially with everything that had been going on as long as she could remember. She did not even bother with being subtle, watching him openly.

Gloisil Murigel |

"Ha! This is a good gnome trick, I should have seen it for what it was. The gem itself is not magical, just the area around it. It does have some small writing on it, can quite make it out."
Gloisil looks around on his "patched" cloak and finding a particular patch, grabs it by the edge and separates it from his from his cloak. As he does this the patch turns into a monocle.
Hopefully this will help me read the sigils that are carved on the stone, if not I may have to chance grabbing the stone to get a closer look at it. If it was placed here by gnomes, then it was probably meant as information for other gnomes, if it was placed here as a trap for gnomes, well ...
Gloisil will attempt to read the writing on the gem with the monocle as an aid without disturbing it. Else he will grasp the stone and then make a closer inspection of it.
When finished he will find a pocket to carefully pack the monocle away in.

Sunset |

Sunset keeps a weather eye on Gyldyr aa she listens to GLoisil explain what it is that he can see. While their plucky Gnome freind is fussing about putting away the small eye lens (Which Sunset had thought looked rather fetching on Gloisil) She frowns,
"If'n th' glowy, invisible gem in't magical...how is it all glowy an' invisible....?" She muses softly.
I refuse to do the whole 'Akbar' voice and say "It's a TRAP!" :P XD

They are Sigils; Sigil being different from Glyphs; Sigils are personal to a mage/class/style and may or may not be magical. You also see Glyphs cut into the stone that contain the attack magic; Sigils that you recognise are missdirection; levitate; and phantasm that puts it where it is; there are also Glyphs beyone your understanding buy nothing legendary like a Rune and no symbolage that has inflict or permanancy.
(inflict looks like a nail and the direction its pointing and the number of them denotes direction; so the symbol on each side denotes this symbol inflicted on this target for future reference; permanancy is the symbol of a dragon.)

Actually; not the area; the gem reorients the detect to detect some random item nearby; so any item the group might be carrying or the magic in the elevator or a room nearby or even you; as a creature of magic; you might read yourself.

If the gnomes here are like the ones where you come from, and they are sneaky little gits who love puzzles; or, this whole thing might just be made up by Gloisil; I mean really a gem nobody can see but a gnome; and gnomes are such tricksters; watching for slight of hand you see nothing; but surely somebody is going to end up on the wrong side of this trick; gnome tricks are usually only funny to gnomes and sometimes quite deadly.
you dont sense any magic from the area, but you do sense a few bits there and there on the other members.
experience would say best to err on the side of caution; on a side note; with the fey that led you down here; and the fey being involved in this escapade; it wouldnt be surprizing if they are playing games either.
you wouldnt want to end up with a mule face or tail of donkey or other such Fey pranks.

"So whats the hold up here?"
looking down you see a littel brown 18" tall Brownie; the one that led Gyldyr.
"Mage Hava and his Kingship the King sent me to bring you this bloke and get an update on your progress"
"yea aint gots very far yet" walking around, he touches the pc clothes in various places and cuts are mended.
"still lots of gobbies around; the lads back there are getting famished so get a move on will ya; the thing is still held by the Git and the spooks are on thier last tears and with Demongate acting all wierd seems like all Hell and Tarnation is gonna break loose"
"well gotta run, things to do, places to go"
he leaves in a puff.

Gloisil Murigel |

"Well, I can't read all the symbols on the gem, and while it doesn't look to malevolent, I'll guide y'all around it just in case. Anyway I think we should be moving on. The gem may have been just a fey trick to catch the unwary who wandered this way."
Gloisil then indicates the location of the gem and has the others stay as far from it as possible as they go by it.

Gloisil Murigel |

"I suggest that we take the elevator down to a lower level and continue the search for the item that we seek. Does anyone else have another suggestion?"
Gloisil then examines the entrance to and the inside of the elevator, trying to determine exactly how this device works.
Search (For elevator controls): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Valegrim |

Gyldyrs comment should be mysterious to most everyone as last you knew; you left a lot of bodies.
-----------
The elevator controls have been damaged; can be repaired if anyone has blacksmithing or metalurgy type skills; or you can try to untrained bang it back in shape if you have a heavy hammer and maybe a heavy crowbar or lever. Untrained would be a lot harder. The elevator is a frieght type elevator and looks very solid; 60 guys could probably stand next to each other inside; by the looks of it; they brought a lot of coal up this elevator; probably other things like metals as well.
_______________
Further down the hall you see several door to other rooms. One stands out as much fancier than the others.

Gloisil Murigel |

"Well unfortunately this elevator is broken beyond what I can repair, perhaps others of my kin could if they were here, but alas ...", and Gloisil trails off as his mind turns to other things.
"Hey, this door down the hallway is different then the others, shall we check it out? If someone has the means to repair the elevator, some of us could check out the door and what is behind it, while the repairs are completed."
Gloisil moves towards the door and examines it closer on approaching it, searching for anything that may be of interest.

Lol Sunset hehe
-------
Ok; this door is obvioulsy gnomeish work; next to all the burly, stout dwarven doors; this one is lighter but made of strong materials and is carved with light funny and frivolous works of gnomish design. Also; the door has been very vandalized and deficated; and urinated upon and in blood something in goblin is written upon it.
The door is closed and locked.; strange; as it is. looking at the other doors in the hall; and thier symbolage; is is obviously a guild hall and these are workshops. Obvious to anyone to knows dwarves; for a gnome workshop to be nearby; is probably some delicate stuff they made up here at once time; but by the looks of the graffiti and defacing and whatnot; it is obvious the dwarves/gnomes lost the battle here.

Valegrim |

profane statements about unlikey lewd acts of gnomes and some gross jokes about how they taste.
looking around; it seems that they hate gnomes even more than they hate dwarves; if that can even be possible; guess dwarves are easier to catch as they dont run away and generally think they are invulnerable.
Gyldyr goes to read the grafitti, a mild look of distaste on his features.

Valegrim |

well; an elevator is really just a mine shaft with a dumb waiter; so; you "could" possibly climb down; though I dont recommend it.

Sunset frowns and sighs, "I dun't have any magic about me whut'll be of use t' openin' a lock per-say." She thinks hard for a moment more, "But I maybe c'n help along side some one who's willin' t' give it a go?"
Would/could the Bards ability be used to maybe give a meager +1, perhaps?
"O'course, this bein' a Gnomeish door, perhaps there be a Gnomish 'trick' to it?" She adds sounding hopeful.

Valegrim |

The door and door frame are indeed magical
The door is locked probably by a wizard lock; but this door has been forced or broken using magic in the past; seems the like to door has repaired itself; could be your imagination; but there are carving and such on the door and as you look at them; they seem to move; perhaps looking back at you; seems to be a gnome village with all kinds of tinkering and labs and shops; some of them stop and give you an frown. At the edge of the scene; youi see guys from the village are moving towards the edge of the door and frameworks in the picture like their working on the door and doorframe; this is all very slow motion so not readily noticable as movement; but anyone can see the scene; there are blots and carvings from vandalizm and damage to the door; but not as much as expected; seems the gnomes are working on fixing this too; odd.
"I can attempt to pick the lock," offered Gyldyr. "Though, I have precious little experience picking locks." He attempts to make himself useful and detect any magic around the door.

Since it's a "wizard lock", can I open it with magic?

Valegrim |

it would take a level 3 spell; there are mundane ways to open it; but party options at this point are to interact with the door; figure out its combination and I dont mean picking it as takes a much higher level rogue to pick a wizard lock. It would seem that since this door is in the hallway of a dwarven mine; then it would have to have some way to let people in that were not attuned to the wizard lock; so you just need to figure it out.
------
so; what is going on with gloisil and the gem? what is the rest of the party doing not that he has pointed the way around it?

Gyldyr spends some more time investigating the door, not wanting to use one of his precious, higher-level spells at this time.
perception1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17Or take 10 or 20?
"I could open this door with a spell," he muses aloud, hoping for some help from the rest of the party. "But I would prefer to reserve spells of that power in case I need them later."

Desidera Tahn |
Desidera's head was looking between Gloisil, Sunset, and the dark elf, not entirely trusting, despite whatever he says. So she clutched her staff warily and watched the dark elf more than she did the hallway, standing next to Sunset and occasionally glancing down the hall, or at the door. Despite being brought here on the back of a Kirin, she could not help but feel that she was out of place, and somewhat trapped.
Once more, she wistfully thought of the surface, and the light of the sun, hoping that she would see it again sometime soon.

Valegrim |

Lol; that means your taking extra time and intently studying the door; <gm rubs his hands with glee; evil chuckle>
Gloisil had left the gem where it was to investigate first the elevator and then this door.
